00:00Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:30This is a guy that's pretty much wreckers or checkers got back on top of the box last week after
00:35nursing a shoulder injury early in the year.
00:37He's talked about he's a free agent.
00:40He's trying to raise his value a bit, and he's doing all the right things.
00:43We know he can win, and when he's hot, he's one of the fastest riders on the track.
00:48And Landon Gordon, I don't know about you, my friend, but I did not see that one coming last weekend
00:54at all.
00:55Really, in my eyes, in terms of Star Racing Yamaha's depth chart in the SMX Next class,
01:01I kind of looked at Landon Gordon as third behind Caden Dudney and Caden Menear.
01:06But what he did last weekend was so impressive.
01:09He rose to the occasion when it mattered the most.
01:12And you have to think, if he's able to back up that performance again,
01:15he's pretty much securing his future, a long-term deal in the pro ranks with the most dominant team in
01:22the class.
01:23So Landon Gordon, it's going to be a very important day for him.
01:27And finally, exactly what Lurch did a great job with that report, home race for Seth Hamaker.
01:33And he's been making a little bit of mistakes lately, trying hard to do everything he can.
01:39And I've said it time and time again, but this man has pulled his career straight out of the gutter,
01:45moved down to Florida last year, and it's really all come together for him.
01:49He hasn't been as good as Cole Davies, but in front of his home fans here,
01:53there's not a lot of championship pressure anymore.
01:55It's just about going out there and doing everything you can.
01:58And we know there's nobody better at that than Seth Hamaker.
02:00Absolutely.
02:01We always talk about the effort that the number 10 on that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki gives.
02:06There's no lack of that, that's for sure.
02:08250 Group A, qualifier number one.
02:10We are fueled by Acme.
02:11And how about this man, Cole Davies, a dominant season so far, 21-point lead over Seth Hamaker.
02:18And an opportunity to do something today for the first time in his professional career.
02:22Only a second season in the class to win a championship.
02:26Just needs to add, put four points between himself and Seth Hamaker.
02:32And by the look at things lately, Cole Davies, the speed has been impressive.
02:36We know he is so good in this area of the track.
02:39When he did track walk this morning, I'm sure he was very excited to see a very technical, long set
02:45of whoops there.
02:46But what's, I think, impressed me the most about Cole Davies this season are the races that he doesn't have
02:52it.
02:52You always talk about you win championships on your bad days.
02:55But when he's not feeling it, when he makes some mistakes, some crashes, as a young rider, 18 years old,
03:01it's so difficult kind of emotionally to calm yourself down, do the things you need to.
03:07And he just hasn't, he's done a good job not compounding his mistakes.
03:11He's turned himself in to a championship guy.
03:14Already had the speed in year one.
03:16But year two, you're starting to see that consistency.
03:18All right, Seth Hamaker setting up a fast lap.
03:20Cole Davies has the fastest time so far, 50.0.
03:24Hamaker's going for one right now.
03:26We talk about this dirt.
03:27When we came here first to Philadelphia yesterday, Seth Hamaker makes a mistake.
03:30It's pretty loose.
03:31The track crew is in a difficult situation.
03:33Because, like I mentioned, there's potentially some rain this afternoon.
03:36You never know for sure.
03:37Look, we talk about that quite often.
03:39But they left it somewhat dry, pulled the tarps off earlier today, laid some water down.
03:44And it's actually in pretty good shape right now.
03:46It's in really good shape.
03:48And sometimes when they take the tarp off in the morning, it forces them to put so much water on
03:53it
03:53right before the guys go on track so the water can kind of just sit on top.
03:57And you'll have that dry base.
03:59And you've seen a little bit of that today.
04:01But definitely a little more traction than we had in Nashville, J.B.
04:05180.
04:06Landon Gordon on your screen right now.
04:08A career-defining moment and maybe even a life-changing moment that he's going to look back on in years
04:13to come
04:13that solidified a pro job.
04:16And, look, you've been there.
04:17We've both been amateur.
04:18You're trying to get that pro ride.
04:20And, look, we talked to Landon Gordon, Caden Meneer, and Caden Dudney at Anaheim 2
04:25before the first round of SMX Next.
04:27And they were all kind of fighting for this pro ride, this pro contract.
04:31Well, Landon Gordon definitely seems to have that right now with that podium a week ago.
04:35And it's a fantastic opportunity.
04:37But it's also a lot for these young riders.
04:40It's a lot of pressure because Star Yamaha, everyone knows in the 250 class that that's the fastest motorcycle.
04:48They win pretty much every weekend.
04:50And so if you're a young guy and you can't make it work on a star bike early in your
04:55pro career,
04:55your value for other teams, they think to themselves, well, if they can't do it on a star racing Yamaha,
05:01how would they be able to do it on our bike?
05:03So it's just for Landon Gordon to seize the moment like he did last weekend with the amount of pressure
05:10that was on him,
05:11it shows me he's going to be a really good pro for a long time.
05:14Hamaker on a fast one right now.
05:17He's yet to put down a real good one yet.
05:19He's a 53-9.
05:20Let's see if he gets into the top five with this time.
05:23He goes to the top 40.
05:28Speed this year has not been an issue for the 10.
05:31It's been consistency late in the night and trying to beat this guy, the 37, Cole Davies.
05:35And I think he's just having to push so hard when you're going up against someone like Cole Davies that's
05:40so well-rounded.
05:41You just have to get the absolute most out of yourself.
05:45And that's why you've seen some little mistakes from Seth.
05:47He's doing everything he can because his goal is to win,
05:50especially after coming so close to winning the championship last year.
05:54But Cole Davies is not making it easy on anybody.
05:56Davies just went 49.3, nearly matched.
05:59Seth Hamaker, they're 1-2 right now.
06:01And how about this guy?
06:02We talk about Landon Gordon having a career day a week ago in Cleveland.
06:06How about this guy?
06:07He's had a career year here in 2026.
06:09Club MX Yamaha gave him an opportunity.
06:11He has taken full advantage of it.
06:13That's Devin Simonson.
06:14He really, really has.
06:16And you see this happen with riders quite a bit.
06:19They get some confidence, and then you just see it.
06:21They look like they belong.
06:22They feel like they belong at the front of the race.
06:25They kind of get rid of that imposter syndrome.
06:28And I told the story last weekend, but I didn't even know Devin Simonson's name a couple years ago.
06:33And it's a unique story for someone to get so much better already a few years into their pro career.
06:39It's a great story with the Club MX team, believing in him, giving him this platform, and he's taken full
06:44advantage.
06:45Whoop section is pretty difficult.
06:46When you go down the left side right there, you don't really open the corner up so much, and guys
06:50are going inside, 90-degree turn.
06:52That's going to be difficult, the left-hand turn after the whoops.
06:55It is.
06:55And on the 250, with the set of whoops being so long, you really, they always say you can't gain
07:01speed in the whoops.
07:02You want to carry as much speed in as possible, especially when they're slick, a little bit longer.
07:07But if you do cut out of that right-hand corner before the whoops to get to the right-hand
07:11side,
07:11you're obviously not coming in with the same amount of speed if you go around the top of the turn.
07:16So it's really just a give-and-take.
07:18Look at that time, 48.8.
07:21He said, you know what, I need more than a 49.3.
07:23I'm going to drop into the 48s.
07:25Cole Davies looks like he's on a fast one, though.
07:27And this is what we've witnessed all season long.
07:29These two going back and forth.
07:31They both have so much speed.
07:33Cole Davies on one right here, over the tabletop triple.
07:35You like that line?
07:36I love that line.
07:37But what I've seen from Cole, we got that, came on with the shot of him right after the whoops.
07:42And sometimes you can fall into a trap in qualifying when you're trying to match your competitor,
07:47trying to get a little more out of yourself.
07:49You can kind of rush your entry of your turns a little bit.
07:53And that's what, through that little section, those two or three turns,
07:56Cole was just rushing things a tad.
07:58But you have to find the limit so you know where it's at come race time.
08:01Well, there's some years when you look on paper and you look at results,
08:04and you say, yeah, that was a pretty decent year.
08:05And then there's years where the eye test is so incredibly good.
08:10And that's what Daxton Binnick this season, look, he's left a couple podiums on the table.
08:14He podiumed that round one in Arlington.
08:15You think about a couple weeks ago in Nashville, had that podium, crashed late.
08:20Think of a week ago, he goes 3-5-3 for fifth overall and a triple crown.
08:24I mean, come on, that will usually get you a podium finish.
08:27But from the eye test, Daxton Binnick has got more speed this year than he's ever had in his entire
08:32career.
08:33You're absolutely correct.
08:34And this is a year you have to have to turn yourself into a race winner,
08:39to turn yourself into a champion.
08:41You have to have those building blocks.
08:43And Daxton Binnick, his biggest issue has been staying healthy,
08:46staying on the track and getting the experience.
08:48And I love the approach.
08:50He's working, of course, under the team manager, Nathan Ramsey, who's been there, done that.
08:54And I love their approach this season.
08:56He's riding within himself, but he also has that speed.
08:59You're starting to see the confidence come around.
09:01And really, the last couple weekends, even though he didn't end up with a podium,
09:05he's had podium speed every time on track.
09:07Absolutely.
09:08Dax Binnick in third right now.
09:09Landon Gordon on your screen.
09:10He's six with a 50.5.
09:13And with SMX Next classes here in Philadelphia,
09:15and you think about the youngsters that have raced Landon Gordon,
09:19it has to give them a lot of hope, a lot of confidence.
09:21If you're Caden Meneer, Ryder Malinowski, guys like that.
09:25Deacon Denno, when you look at what Landon Gordon is doing at the professional level in just a couple weeks,
09:29pretty promising for these young kids.
09:31Oh, it really is.
09:32And I saw Cody Schock right there, this little roller before you do that three on the tabletop.
09:37And it's almost like he kind of wheelied into the face of the three on.
09:41He's able to stay a little lower.
09:42And down he goes right there.
09:44Easy to do.
09:45That's that hard base.
09:46Again, they did not put a lot of water on it after the guys' road press yesterday.
09:51They threw a lot of water on it this morning.
09:53So you're going to get that dry, slick base.
09:56You already see those little bumps on the top of the turn.
10:00And when it's really hard packed like it is right now,
10:02those little bumps in the middle of the corner can really make the front end feel a little bit nervous
10:07on lean angle.
10:08So these guys, that will not be the last time somebody tucks the front today.
10:12Haley, Daxton Bennett, fast here so far.
10:15Third overall.
10:16He has been really fast.
10:17And remember last weekend, as reported by our teammate Will Christian on the podium,
10:21when she spoke with him last weekend, he accomplished what he did while battling through what was expected to be
10:26food poisoning.
10:27So you'd have to imagine that a week past that, it could only be better from here.
10:32Absolutely, Adam.
10:33You and I have been there.
10:34You travel a lot.
10:35You go into these new cities.
10:36You eat at a place you've never eaten at before.
10:39You get food poisoning.
10:40It can be so difficult waking up on Saturday morning not feeling the best.
10:44He powered through it anyways.
10:45But those are difficult days.
10:47They are very difficult.
10:47But sometimes, and I know you've been there too, sometimes when you're a little sick or a little injured,
10:52there's part of it that kind of takes the pressure off you a little bit, frees you up.
10:56And that's what I've seen with Dax this year that I love so much is that just no matter how
11:01it's going,
11:01no matter how he's doing, he's staying within himself.
11:05When he doesn't have it, he's not pushing too hard, making mistakes, compounding his mistakes.
11:11And this is a young rider that's only beginning to scratch the surface on what he can do.
11:15We hear about it every offseason, how fast he is at the practice track.
11:21So he's got a few things to work on and put together.
11:23He's not quite on the Hamaker and Davies level right now, but there's definitely potential for him to get there.
11:29Absolutely.
11:30Let's see what Davies can throw down here.
11:31Does he better?
11:32His 49.3 does.
11:33He goes 49.1.
11:35But Seth Hamaker is still on top with a 48.7.
11:38Is Davies going for another one?
11:39And I love any time a guy can go straight into, do two fast laps in a row, it tells
11:45me the speed is very repeatable for them.
11:48And even if you're not the fastest guy, if the speed and the lap time, if it feels repeatable, it
11:54gives you a lot of confidence going into the night show.
11:56Look at Hamaker on the bottom right-hand side of your screen.
12:00He's not satisfied with that 48.7.
12:03But out of 16 sessions in qualifying this year, Hamaker has been fastest in nine of them.
12:08So speed has not been an issue.
12:09Let's see what this time is for Hamaker.
12:1348.6.
12:14So he betters his 48.7.
12:16Wow, he has got a lot of speed here today.
12:18See Davies trying to cut off some track there.
12:21Normally the live timing loop is actually on the bottom of the finish line phase.
12:25So you'll see that every once in a while.
12:26Guys trying to shave off some track.
12:29Finishing up a fast lap.
12:30Shave a couple tenths off.
12:32But Seth Hamaker starting the day strong.
12:34Wow, for the tenth time this season, he tops session number one here in 250.
12:40Group A qualifying 48.6.
12:43Wow, half a second faster than anyone else on track.
12:45Cole Davies, Daxton Benick, we talked about how much speed he's had here in 2026.
12:49Nate Thrasher, look, never.
