00:00Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:30To his dad, Darren Lawrence, absolutely.
00:32They know that he's come off injury.
00:34They know that this is going to take time.
00:36A breakout Supercross season, almost winning that championship.
00:39And there was a lot of wonder, would Hunter be Hunter coming off that?
00:43Well, we've seen it so far.
00:44But hasn't won a race since this track at the end of the 2022 season.
00:48But Eli made it pretty simple yesterday.
00:50He plans on ending that real quick.
00:52It might even happen here today.
00:56Jorge Prado, we've got some making up to do for 2025.
00:59And no one wants to do that more than he does.
01:02He feels like he has a lot of people to prove wrong.
01:05A lot of talk about how he underperformed last year.
01:09He can start the road to redemption right here at round one.
01:12Yeah, JT.
01:12And he is one of the best starters ever on that number 26.
01:16Would not be surprised to see that Orange Red Bull KTM up front.
01:19Here it is.
01:2032nd board is up.
01:21Probably the most anticipated opener in this series,
01:24which has been running for 55 years.
01:26partially because of the two names you see on the screen right now.
01:30Jett Lawrence, Hayden Deegan,
01:31but so many other greats on the gate right now.
01:34But the talk is over.
01:35It's time to go racing.
01:48It's time to go racing.
01:53comes in ready, battling Hunter now, Prado's third.
01:56Oh, we've got a pileup here.
01:58I don't know if there's any of our contenders.
02:00Always easy to have in that 180,
02:02but Hunter Lawrence, as you mentioned,
02:03I thought he was there first.
02:05Mitchell got around him, nickel.
02:08Yeah, good start for the triumph, Prado.
02:10I was like, Jorge Prado is...
02:12And Chase sexted it fourth.
02:13He has struggled with starts on the Kawasaki.
02:16This is a pretty good one.
02:17And now Hunter able to lock it down.
02:19Yeah, I was getting confused.
02:20They were going all over.
02:21But Hunter Lawrence,
02:22when you're looking at him,
02:23the speed, the way he was doing it,
02:25it's scary for everybody else.
02:26Great start by him.
02:27Great start by Jorge Prado.
02:29And another guy we really haven't mentioned that much,
02:31Chase Sexton.
02:32We know he always carries the speed,
02:34but does he carry the mindset to come in here and win
02:36and be able to contend?
02:38We'll find out here through this moto.
02:39Prado makes the move on Harrop.
02:41These riders used to battle over in Europe and MXGP.
02:44Prado not messing around.
02:45going to second
02:46and does not want Hunter Lawrence to get away.
02:49Yeah, well, you know,
02:50looking down,
02:51Jett Lawrence is running in the 16th.
02:53So bad start for a defending champ.
02:55Not sure what happened.
02:56He's got a long ways to go.
02:58And the one guy's out front.
02:59Might be the toughest as his brother.
03:01See what happens.
03:02He can even worse.
03:03He is 20th.
03:04So the big names that everyone's talking about,
03:07struggling.
03:08Hunter Lawrence starting to roll.
03:10And here comes Sexton now.
03:13Yeah, Chase going to try to follow these two guys.
03:15They have been the fastest guys of the day.
03:17Jorge Prado and Hunter Lawrence.
03:18So Chase wants to get up there.
03:20I'm not sure what his mindset is.
03:22Is he here trying to win?
03:23Or is he here trying to make sure his bike is good?
03:26Just get on that podium.
03:28Is that Tomac?
03:29Yeah, that's Eli and Marchbank.
03:31Oh, no.
03:33Big collision.
03:34And they are not quick to get up.
03:37Oh, man.
03:38Tough break.
03:38And last time we saw Eli race,
03:40it was the same kind of incident there.
03:42Just a rotting incident.
03:44I believe Gary was on the outside.
03:46The four-time champion, Tomac, getting together.
03:49You're right.
03:50That is eerily similar to a couple of the crashes
03:51late in the Monster Energy Supercross campaign for Tomac.
03:55Go back to Prado, keeping Lawrence in sight on lap two.
04:01And that's a bummer to see.
04:02Certainly not just for Tomac,
04:04but Marchbank, who's very quick in qualifying as well.
04:09But it's going to be Lawrence Prado-Hare up top three, lap one.
04:12Here we go.
04:12Yeah, you can watch Eli right here in the middle.
04:15And then you got Marchbank's on the outside here.
04:19Watch these lines.
04:20Eli's going to get in there.
04:21I don't know if he's going to pop out of that rub,
04:22but Marchbank's come.
04:24Racing incident, but tough hit for both of them.
04:27Gary went down really hard in the face of that jump.
04:30Oh, man, that's hard.
04:32Yeah, you hate to see it for both of those riders.
04:36Prado just inching up ever so slightly on Hunter early.
04:40Sexton is now third ahead of Harrop.
04:42And Justin Cooper is fifth.
04:45Mr. Craig, Barsha, Plessinger, Webb, round out the top ten.
04:49And there's Jet Lawrence, mired in traffic.
04:52He just made the move, we hear, on Cooper Webb.
04:54That'll move him to tenth.
04:56Yeah, that's my idea.
04:56That's it with his teammate in the 250 class, Joe Shimoto.
04:59Jet was struggling earlier, so this might be a good thing.
05:01He takes that mindset off of even trying to win this race,
05:05get in that form, really get that race craft going.
05:08To be up in that top five, you're going to have to make some great passes.
05:11So let's see if he can keep moving up.
05:13Is that Deegan behind him or?
05:15Oh, no, it's Cooper Webb.
05:16Yeah, it's Deegan's teammate.
05:17But I'll tell you what's crazy.
05:19Jet had led 91 straight laps at this track
05:23until the first one here with the bad start.
05:26And Cornelius Tondal right there making moves,
05:29battling Webb uphill behind Lawrence.
05:33They're just passing two, three times, two across champ out here.
05:39I think Deegan's about to get into this fight as well.
05:42He's at the bottom of the screen battling Webb now.
05:44Let's go to JT.
05:46Well, we're going to try to get a replay of the start.
05:49I watched Jet Lawrence, and he started right next to Jorge Prado.
05:54We're going to come up on the screen right here.
05:55Watch Jorge Prado and Jet Lawrence next to each other.
05:57They are side by side.
05:58You see Prado finally get the drive.
06:00Right there, you see Jet get squeezed out by Cooper on his left
06:03and Prado on the right.
06:05That is what got him to start.
06:06It was so close, but that last, when they grabbed third gear,
06:10the pole there that Prado got him to second,
06:12and Jet fell back to 14.
06:13Yeah, and truthfully, that's probably a little bit of timidness by Jet
06:16because he hasn't raced all year.
06:18And I know when I came back from injury,
06:20that's one of the scariest parts, being around a bunch of people.
06:23So I think Jet probably shut off a little early
06:25and was just trying to stay up.
06:26And when you do that here, you go from top 10 to in the back of the pack
06:30to looking back, and you got Haydeegan on you.
06:33Well, here it is.
06:34They're hooking up in a battle,
06:36maybe not the positions that people expected.
06:38This is a fight for 10th and 11th between Lawrence and Deegan.
06:44Yeah, this is a scary position for Jet
06:46because he wants to be able to, you know, work his way in,
06:49and he's got guys in front of him,
06:50so he probably won't be able to run his lines.
06:52But then you got Haydeegan just, you know, railing it, scrubbing it behind you.
06:56He knows he wants to make the pass, so it's going to be scary.
07:00I'm interested to see what happens.
07:01I believe if Hayden comes in, Jet probably let him by
07:04and try to follow him, maybe repass him later.
07:06Meanwhile, bottom box, Jorge Prado all over.
07:09Hunter Lawrence for the lead.
07:11Prado came to play as expected.
07:13Now Jet Lawrence makes the move on Barsha.
07:16That will move him to 9th, and Barsha now between Jet and Deegan.
07:21Yeah, Jet's just got to keep moving forward, keep that gap in that 38
07:25as Haydeegan makes his way around him.
07:27As I said, Jet wouldn't be able to run his line,
07:29so he might get slowed up, which will allow Haydeegan to come in.
07:33I think Barsha made a pass back on him, so.
07:38Well, that's what makes it so fun, this field here.
07:40You can go back to 10th and find some riders who will not just roll over.
07:45Marshall will fight you as hard as anyone up front.
07:49The yo-yo game.
07:50Prado able to close in.
07:51Hunter pulls it back out, and vice versa between the leaders
07:54in that bottom box, and Sexton lurking as well.
07:57Yeah, I think all these guys are just kind of, like we saw Levi Kitchen,
08:02just kind of letting this race play out.
08:03If you get close to him, try to make that pass, and body language,
08:07there's not too much of a rush for all three of these guys.
08:09Jorge was standing up, and then when you attack, he'll close in on Hunter.
08:14Hunter knows he's going to be there, so this race is just a chess game at this point,
08:17except you're just going 60 miles an hour while playing chess.
08:20Yeah, exactly.
08:21It's faster than most people could go.
08:23Oh, man, you see there on the left side of the screen, right side of the track,
08:27Tomac still being attended to after that hard crash on lap one.
08:31You hate to see it.
08:33Christian Craig is next on the charge for Jet Lawrence, and here's Deegan following him through.
08:40Yeah, still a great ride by Jet.
08:42He's starting to pick up the pace, making his way up, so maybe what he's going to do
08:46is he knows that 38 is behind him.
08:48Maybe that's what's pushing him forward, so he's not thinking about anything else besides getting away,
08:52and while he's doing that, he's closing in on the guys ahead of him.
08:54Well, they might all meet out the front the way it's going right now,
08:58so that'll move Jet up to eight, Craig ninth.
09:02Craig and Deegan are very close.
09:03Actually, Craig was working with Deegan as a bit of a coach about a year and a half ago.
09:08They're still pretty tight on the track, but every man for himself out on the round one
09:14pro moto cost opener.
09:16Yep, absolutely.
09:17When you think about Jet Lawrence, I mean, how long has it been since he's actually raced?
09:21I mean, six-plus months.
09:22You look at last time he goes back, and, you know, so just going back to what happened
09:27in that first corner, it's easy to happen.
09:28A mistake right there.
09:30Oh!
09:30All this takes a look over.
09:32And Deegan already passed Craig, so he's right there with Jet.
09:37Yeah, let's see what happens here.
09:40And I don't think Craig put up too much of a fight on Deegan.
09:42Deegan around the outside.
09:43Side by side.
09:46Lawrence and Deegan.
09:47Yeah, Craig probably let him go by because he's like,
09:50I want to see what happens right here.
09:51with Hayden Deegan.
09:54Deegan makes the pass on Jet Lawrence, and now going after Plessinger.
09:59Yeah, that mistake by Jet obviously allowed Hayden to go,
10:03and Hayden wants to make that pass and make his way forward.
10:06So I thought Jet would do what he did.
10:08Played a long game.
10:09Be smart.
10:10Hopefully the errand slows Hayden down so he doesn't go,
10:13and he has an opportunity to go by.
10:14But he might.
10:16He's right back to the rear wheel of Deegan.
10:19Now the cool part when you watch these two guys,
10:21like their contrast in style, like Hayden Deegan really runs it in a lot.
10:25And we know how patient Jet Lawrence is.
10:27So when you're watching him on the racetrack, you'll see.
10:30There it is.
10:31Jet got him back.
10:32And the crowd responds.
10:34Simple as that.
10:35One mistake.
10:35Hayden goes to the outside.
10:37Jet sneaks in.
10:38That's the difference between the 250 class and 450.
10:41These guys attack.
10:42We know how much they want to win, all of them.
10:45Great pass by Jet Lawrence.
10:47Let's see what Hayden responds back to.
10:52I didn't think it would happen quite this quickly.
10:55First 10 minutes of the season, it's already on.
10:57We're not going to wait for anything.
10:59It might be for 9th and 8th and 9th, but the battle is here.
11:03And Plessinger, who's returning from some vicious injuries in Supercross,
11:07just ahead of him, Deegan another attack.
11:10Going to run it around the outside.
11:11And Lawrence ran him out of room.
11:13Yeah, just going back to my point with these two riding styles,
11:16what you're going to see, Jet relaxes going in the corner.
11:18Hayden really attacks it.
11:19So it's easy for Hayden to make up a lot of time entering the corner.
11:23In some of these parts where you get these split lanes,
11:25you'll have a lot of opportunities to pass Jet.
11:27Jet carries that momentum, but Hayden will always close that gap by the way he rides.
11:33Looks like we lost Jay Sexton.
11:35He was in third.
11:36Now Justin Cooper has moved up.
11:38Yeah, Sexton is now fourth.
11:40And that's the battle out front with Prado just stalking Hunter Lawrence from second.
11:46Yeah, these guys just ran 2.18s, over two seconds faster pretty much than everybody else on the racetrack.
11:52So they're picking that pace up.
11:54You see Jorge standing up.
11:56It don't look like they were too big of a rush compared to his brother and Hayden Deegan.
12:00Great start for all these guys.
12:03It's looking good, JT.
12:04Yeah, he was great.
12:05And don't forget, guys, there is no love lost between Hunter Lawrence and Jorge Prado.
12:10They've had a war of words.
12:11They kind of talk back and forth.
12:12There was the body Spanish comment by Jorge Prado.
12:17And even a couple weeks ago at the finale in Salt Lake City,
12:19Jorge Prado was the one putting pressure on Hunter Lawrence that you could argue forced that mistake.
12:24So it's one of the most underreported rivalries that we have going right now, but it's about to heat up.
12:29Well, yeah, because now it's one-on-one for the lead.
12:32And those two at the bottom as Lawrence and Deegan are making moves on Plessinger.
12:37The other Lawrence and Prado are long gone up front.
12:40Yeah, I love the contrast.
12:42Our drone shot right here is giving you an ideal of Hunter Lawrence and Jorge Prado.
12:47Just the line selection, how many different lines are on this racetrack.
12:50Hunter swings on the outside, cuts the corner.
12:52Jorge is going more straight in, but banking off.
12:55So different ways to get it done.
12:56And they're literally running the same lap time, but at 2.18.6 for both of them in the last
13:00lap.
13:01And we're here.
13:01Tomac is being helped off the track by the Alpine Stars medic team.
13:06You hate to see that for the four-time champion of the series so early in this campaign.
13:13There's Prado continuing to shadow Hunter Lawrence, Will.
13:17Jason, we were talking in the booth just earlier, Jason.
13:20We were talking about this exact scenario, right?
13:22We may well see a Hunter Lawrence, Jorge Prado, one and two here battling.
13:26And these are the two guys out of the entire field who are not coming off injury.
13:30They have plenty of momentum from supercars.
13:33Yes, Jorge switch manufacturers.
13:35But as I just spoke to team manager Ian Harrison about, that's a gray area.
13:40He's gone back to Red Bull KTM.
13:42He's gone back to a bike ring that he's extremely used to.
13:45So he doesn't think that counts.
13:46So we've talked about two guys really who are battling nothing else apart from themselves right now.
13:51And I asked, well, hey, hang on a second.
13:52But you've only just learned these tracks.
13:54And you were doing it in a kind of a non-competitive way last year.
13:58You were doing it at the back of the pack.
13:59And he said, that's probably my only thing that I have to deal with here, James,
14:03is the line selection from last year when he was, you know, 10th and further back to being up front
14:09and running up front is a very different experience for him.
14:12Yeah, it is.
14:13But at the same time, Jorge is used to winning, you know, and this is where he's more comfortable at.
14:18And I think with him, when you're a rider that's won at so many times,
14:22you've got to have a little bit of naive about you.
14:23So I think in Jorge's mind, last year was last year.
14:26I know what the problem was.
14:28I changed that problem.
14:29So I'm going to go back to being what I am as he's closing in on Hunter Lawrence.
14:34So I think it's more about this is more normal for him compared to where he was last year.
14:38And so far, he's making his way up.
14:40Now look at the different lines.
14:42Hunter switched his line up this time.
14:44He was a little bit farther on the outside, but you can see the difference in that corner.
14:47Works out the same, but.
14:50Well, top off Jet Lawrence trying to get around.
14:53Harrop, the Danish rider doing very well in the triumph,
14:56but a little mistake hitched in the corner.
14:57And that allows Jet to move by him for sixth.
15:01Prado and Hunter so close up front.
15:04Yeah, great ride.
15:05I like what I see from Jet.
15:06I think this is helping him, as I said earlier.
15:09You know, it's got to reset the focus.
15:12I'm not going to lead any more laps here and make possibly this moto.
15:14So get back out here.
15:16Hey, Deegan, put the charge in here.
15:17So it made Jet have to race.
15:19And they're both picking up their paces.
15:21And this game up front, this is seriously a chess match.
15:24This is what Jorge does.
15:26I mean, he's very technical.
15:27He's going to work on Hunter Lawrence and try to make some pass.
15:30So he'll drop back.
15:31We're not even halfway in this moto.
15:33Long ways to go.
15:34Both these guys are in a great position.
15:37Jorge Prado 2.0, much better in his second year in America.
15:41It was a disappointment.
15:43Last year he had switched, not only moving from Spain to America,
15:46but then switching teams to the Monster Energy Kawasaki squad.
15:50That did not go well by any measure.
15:52Got out of that deal.
15:53Came back to KTM, the brand he rode for when he was a youngster in Europe.
15:57And it has paid massive dividends.
15:59Very good in Supercross, considering he does not have much experience racing in stadiums.
16:04Now he's comfortable on his types of tracks.
16:06And he's riding well in second.
16:08Here's Jorge on his goals and his expectations for the motocross campaign.
16:16So my expectations for the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship, basically it's to win.
16:23I really hope I can get it done this year.
16:27Like I said, I feel very good with myself and with the bike.
16:30And I don't see a reason why not to be able to clinch the title or even fight for the
16:36title.
16:37That's what I'm aiming.
16:39So yeah, that's my goal.
16:43Well, he's never been shy about his own abilities.
16:47So even that quote doesn't surprise me at all.
16:50He's been a championship guy his whole life.
16:52I don't think he expects anything different.
16:53Although at the moment, Hunter has gotten a drop on him and opened it up to about three seconds.
16:59Yeah, again, this is a game of chess right here with these two guys.
17:04This race is just beginning.
17:05And then you got Justin Cooper, Chase Sexton up here.
17:10I believe Chase went down, Jason.
17:12And I see.
17:13Yeah, one bad lap.
17:14Must have been in.
17:15And he's close back in.
17:17We're halfway through this one, by the way.
17:18A reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks at Stater Brothers.
17:22So still plenty of racing left for this fourth place battle.
17:26You got Justin Cooper third, Sexton fourth.
17:28And RJ Hampshire is lurking right behind them on the Rockstar Husky.
17:33Yeah, great to see RJ back out here.
17:36And kind of, you know, thinking about star racing and, I guess, Monster Riders.
17:41You got Justin Cooper in third.
17:42Chase Sexton in fourth.
17:43Cooper Webb, 13th.
17:44March Banks, we saw him earlier with Eli go down.
17:49But I think a lot – I felt like it was going to be a good day for Justin Cooper.
17:53You go back to last year, a strong first moto, really kept Jet within six seconds, but pulled away from
17:59everybody else.
18:00And just seeing the growth of him this Supercross season, he's starting to believe that pass he made on Eli
18:06Tomac, that second triple crown.
18:07Ever since then, Justin Cooper has been a different rider, and he's riding with an attitude.
18:11So I like what I see, and I think good things are going to happen for the 32.
18:16I love it.
18:16It doesn't matter who you throw in there.
18:18The field gets deeper every year.
18:19Justin Cooper is always going to be right around those podium positions.
18:23You can set your watch to it, and that's where he is right now.
18:27Yeah, that's good stuff.
18:28Going back to the opening, what I said, all these guys got motivation out here.
18:33You know, obviously they want to do good every year, but there's a lot to prove for each one of
18:37these guys.
18:38You go through the top ten.
18:39So good for Chase.
18:41I think this is a good thing for him.
18:43Supercross, let's not be shy.
18:44It was a rough year for Chase.
18:46Even though he's got two wins, it wasn't Chase Sexton.
18:49And we were wondering him coming to this motocross, you know, where would the bike be at?
18:53Where would he be mentally?
18:54I felt like this first race he needed to have some positives, whether that was with speed or the bike
18:59going in the right direction.
19:00Because we know Chase Sexton, when he's on, he can beat any of these guys any day of the week.
19:06Well, that's why he's the champion of this series just two years ago.
19:09And then you see Hampshire back behind him.
19:11JT, what do you think?
19:12And watch for the number four of Sexton.
19:14I agree with James so much.
19:15He needs a fast start here because it just felt like if things went awry at the opening round,
19:21we could snowball the wrong direction really quickly with how Supercross went.
19:26But when you come out here and he's battling, maybe you can get on the podium in this moto.
19:30He comes off winning the last race of Supercross in Solid City.
19:33Now you're on a little bit of a roll.
19:34So it just really felt like momentum was going to build.
19:37You just didn't know if it was going to be a positive or a negative way.
19:40And the last note I want to add, guys, working in the background behind Hampshire there,
19:44Jet Lawrence has entered the picture too.
19:46So don't rule out a last few-minute charge here.
19:49All these battles starting to close in on each other.
19:54Sexton and Cooper, then Hampshire.
19:56It's like Jet Lawrence has pulled away from Deegan a bit now.
19:59But he might be able to go after Hampshire and Sexton.
20:03Yeah, it's a big thing.
20:04And JT's spot on with him, with Chase.
20:07And I believe that number one starts sniffing, and he's going to close up on these guys.
20:13And Jet's getting confident every lap.
20:15He's going to get faster and faster as this moto goes on.
20:17He's feeling that foot out, feeling good, maybe working some kinks with the motorcycle.
20:22Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up close to this podium at the end of the race.
20:28Hampshire on the gas here.
20:31Missed almost all of Supercross.
20:33Had a pretty routine crash with a handlebar.
20:35Went right to the top of his foot.
20:37He said there was a chance.
20:38He was healed up enough where he maybe could have come back for the last Supercross or two.
20:42They decided to keep the focus on this.
20:44Point being, he's healthy.
20:45He's had plenty of time at the motorcycle.
20:47And it's showing right now.
20:48I mean, you go back to last year, the guy who had surgery within 10 days, and he came out
20:53here.
20:54So, like Justin Cooper, as you said, being around the podium.
20:57When I see RJ, I expect RJ being RJ.
21:00I got his always fight, never gives up.
21:02And when he stays up, he's up there towards the front.
21:08Jet Lawrence started to take time out of everyone.
21:11He just ran a 2.19.
21:12The only other riders that went that fast, Deegan and Hunter Lawrence up front.
21:18It's like Jet's starting to put it together here.
21:20Yeah, he started to put it together.
21:21Now he has that rabbit to chase with those guys.
21:24And, hey, Deegan has the rabbit chasing the rabbit himself.
21:27But I like that.
21:29Jet Lawrence, you know, that line right there.
21:31This is starting to remind me of who I am.
21:33God is getting these creative lines.
21:35And, you know, the last time, don't lie.
21:37He's been getting faster.
21:38So let's see if he can continue that through the rest of his moto.
21:41Because if not, the number 38 would love to get back up there and get to him.
21:45And he's closing in as well.
21:54Guys, talking to Doc G, Howell Gubinick there, who is the physiotherapist.
22:00So a lot of the guys in the planet.
22:01But obviously Jet and Hunter Lawrence.
22:03I got to have a good chat with him about what this injury, what the sort of implications of it
22:07were long term.
22:09And he was very transparent with me.
22:11He said, look, this is likely never going to be 100%.
22:15He said, that's just how that injury goes.
22:16It's very complicated.
22:18We've talked about it quite a bit.
22:19There's not much blood flow to that talus bone.
22:21He said, so we're not expecting that.
22:23We've been honest with Jet.
22:25As a team, we've been honest.
22:27Don't expect this to ever.
22:28He's like, we'll get the full range of motion back eventually.
22:31But it will never be the same.
22:32So what we are dealing with now is working around it.
22:36He has to adapt.
22:38He has to compensate.
22:39And he has to slightly change his riding style for certain things.
22:43Especially at the moment, without full range of motion, that he can't do.
22:47And Doc G said, that's the thing that's frustrating Jet most.
22:50Is he's not able to do anything that he wants to do.
22:54And he said, that will improve and it will come.
22:56But he also said, most notably, that he's incredibly impressed with Jet and how he's been able to adapt.
23:03And that, James, is probably just due to his level of skill.
23:06But he's been able to work around it very quickly.
23:08No, absolutely.
23:09And I got the same info as well.
23:11And for most people, I mean, this could be not only just career ending, but the way you alter your
23:16life on just your every day.
23:18So the fact that this guy came out just shows you how mentally strong he is.
23:22But I will say one thing.
23:23He's got the right team of people around him.
23:25He also has the right riding style to be able to get away with an injury like this.
23:30Being very patient.
23:31You've got to change and adapt your riding style.
23:33And Jet Lawrence is one of the best ever to do that.
23:36And, you know, from what we saw that first practice to this, you know, he was really aggressive.
23:41Things start.
23:42That clock starts rushing really fast when you look at how fast your brother is.
23:45Jet Lawrence has got the right body's type, the right mindset to come back from injury.
23:50And he's only going to get better throughout this season.
23:53We have now heard that Eli Tomac is awake and alert, being transported, though, for further evaluation.
24:00So a big bummer there for the legend.
24:02Number three, Eli Tomac, going out of this race on the first lap.
24:06Certainly, we hope the best for him.
24:08As Lawrence is now right there with Hampshire.
24:12Hampshire is riding well.
24:13But it's almost like you see Jet just improve a little bit almost each lap of the race.
24:17No, he is.
24:18I mean, we were sitting here watching practice earlier.
24:20You know, he was really rushing things.
24:22And I had a chance to speak to Jet.
24:23And he said that that's so easy to happen, whether it's an injury or not.
24:27That clock runs really fast when you get in this race, you know, race atmosphere.
24:32And the guy that's been off for all that time.
24:34But I believe this is a very important couple laps for Jet because if he's able to get around RJ,
24:39he might have an opportunity to get on the podium.
24:41But even more, he doesn't want to get stuck behind him and then let that 38 close in
24:46because all the stuff that he's been doing, he's going to have to be worried about him.
24:49So great ride by all these guys.
24:51But these next couple laps might end up.
24:54Hampshire, I think, stalled it in that corner.
24:56Maybe hit neutral.
24:57Lost speed.
24:58Here comes Lawrence.
24:59Yeah, let's see if Jet scrubs this.
25:00If he just runs it up the inside, he should have this pass because he'll be able to close that
25:05gap.
25:06RJ is going to fight, though.
25:08Not enough.
25:09This camera angle, great pass by him.
25:12Let's see if he can now keep that momentum up and go towards Chase Sexton up in fourth place.
25:18Got to check in on our leader because he's all by himself at this point.
25:23Hunter Lawrence, almost six seconds out front.
25:27I mean, Jason, what can you say?
25:28I mean, I'm just impressed to see him out here fighting at this level considering how difficult that championship was
25:36a couple weeks ago.
25:36He looks great, JT.
25:38He does.
25:38And if you looked up the word resilience in the dictionary, you might find a picture of Hunter Lawrence next
25:44to it.
25:44Think about the heartbreak that this guy went through.
25:46I had the pleasure and also torment of interviewing him right after he lost that championship to Ken Rockson.
25:53You could see the heartbreak and the pain that was going through him.
25:57It was palpable down there on the floor of Rice Eccles Stadium.
26:00And for him to bounce back three weeks later and to, I don't want to say run away, but he's
26:06pulled a five and a half second lead now out.
26:08Think about how much he's had to summon himself, find himself, and bring his best effort to this race.
26:14I don't have enough good things to say about what we're seeing from Hunter Lawrence right now.
26:17I agree.
26:18And the cool part about that, JT, he stayed down there to allow to be interviewed.
26:22That just shows you what kind of person it is.
26:24But even more than just, you know, being resilient, I think that's what this says.
26:29The way he's raced this first moto, what it tells me, and I'm sure Hunter's thinking that, what happened at
26:34Supercross isn't a fluke.
26:35Because this is what we saw in Supercross.
26:38Like, he was just steady, made it look easy, just pulled away from those guys.
26:42And at one point in that whole series, he was the best guy.
26:45And it wasn't even really close.
26:46So for Hunter, I'm coming back with all that, you know, heartbreak.
26:50At least I come back out here and it feels just like I left a few weeks ago.
26:54And that only looked well for him moving forward.
26:58Go further back.
26:59Deegan now has Hampshire in sight.
27:02So the rookie here is seventh in his first 450 pro moto cross race.
27:05Can he make up any more positions?
27:07Hampshire will be next.
27:08And then Jet Lawrence up the road.
27:10The gap between Lawrence and Deegan has stayed around a three to four second mark for about 15 minutes now.
27:17There's Lawrence.
27:18There's Hampshire.
27:19Here's Deegan.
27:20Yeah, I think this is where Hayden, when you talked earlier about he wants to win, but also that backup
27:25plan.
27:26And I think people might look at it as like he's, you know, making excuses.
27:29But I think what Hayden is, he's very, you know, he understands how great these guys are.
27:34And to sit here and be like, I want to win and kind of overlook the fact that they're that
27:38good is not what he does.
27:40He's got too good of a team around him.
27:42So you hear Hayden, when he says, I'm here to learn, he's really giving props to the guys around them
27:47because he knows how deep this 450 class is.
27:50And so he understands that races, if you don't get stars, you might end up in seventh place with a
27:55good rod.
27:56So Hayden's smart enough, it looks like to me, he's sitting back, just learning, and hopefully finishes top this moto
28:02off solid position.
28:04Yes, because for all the bluster, all the talk of Hayden Deegan, the one thing he has been mentioning lately
28:09that he takes the most pride in is he never missed a single 250 race due to injury.
28:15So there is a method, even though it looks like pure madness, there is a method to that madness as
28:21far as consistency and building and learning, and then coming back to next time.
28:25And it's awfully close now.
28:27You can still see Jet, and you can see Hampshire right there.
28:31Here's Danger Boy.
28:32Yeah, and we know, what do we know about Hayden?
28:34Towards those end of the race, man, this guy never lets off.
28:37And I go back to what I said a couple laps ago with Jet Lawrence.
28:40That pass around RJ was very important because of who was behind him.
28:43When Hayden smelled that blood, I don't care if it's his first race or 300.
28:48This guy will not give up, and you give him an opportunity, he's going to try to seize it.
28:52So Hayden Deegan's doing a great job.
28:55He's always going to be there, and he's learning as we, you know, every lap that goes by.
29:00All right, he's putting in a charge right now.
29:02Two minutes and two laps to go.
29:04The fans barbecuing up at the top of the hillsides.
29:07That's motocross tradition, getting up close to the action.
29:10Look at that crowd there, and a lot of them wanted to see this.
29:13They got a little Lawrence versus Deegan in this moto.
29:16Is there anything left in it?
29:18Yeah, it ain't done with.
29:20All that smoke up there, I was thinking it was Cooper Webb from last year.
29:22His bike's a little smoking, but yeah, the one thing with Hayden Deegan,
29:27as he's learning because of how great he's been and some of the comments that he's made,
29:31you got to look at him.
29:32When he's making passes, I think it's like the defending Super Bowl champion.
29:36You get the best from everyone.
29:38So when he's making a pass on RJ, anybody else?
29:40Oh no, that is Chase Sexton.
29:44Bummer for Chase.
29:46Yeah, so now he slits down to seventh right there.
29:50Wow.
29:51I don't know if he stalled it or whatnot, but.
29:54Yeah, is he back underway?
29:56I think he did come across, so eventually got the bike going.
29:59Well, he was third, then it looked like it was going to be a fourth,
30:02and then he'll drop the 2024 champion of the series back to seventh, as mentioned.
30:08And Deegan is definitely digging down the stretch now.
30:11Yeah, he's digging in, but he's also coming up to a guy who's kind of like him
30:16as the race goes on.
30:17RJ's the same way.
30:18He never gives up.
30:19Really strong.
30:19And, you know, still a good ride by Hayden.
30:23Sixth, if he can get past RJ, top five.
30:26But the main thing is he saw Jet Lawrence.
30:28He saw that pace.
30:29And if you can keep it on two wheels, there's always something to build.
30:33So I'm sure he's going to be disappointed that he was ahead of Jet at one point
30:36and got passed, but he's also taking notes while that was going on?
30:39Yeah, I mean, he has to take notes.
30:41And that's what I was saying back to my point.
30:43You know, I think Hayden understands that as much as he talks,
30:47these guys are generation.
30:49Jet Lawrence is Victor Wimbiana.
30:51He's a freak.
30:52He's an alien out here.
30:53So you're not just going to roll over.
30:54So once he made that pass, Jet was going to come back.
30:57So Hayden knows that, or if not,
30:59I'm sure the guys that start racing will let him know as he makes the pass on RJ.
31:03Quick work of RJ there in that roller section.
31:05So now Deegan is going to be fifth.
31:08Jet Lawrence up to fourth.
31:10Puth away.
31:11Jet has finished top three.
31:13In 51 of the 54 motos he's competed in this class.
31:18He's not too far back at Justin Cooper,
31:20but he might not get a podium in this one.
31:23Yeah, as dominant as this guy's been, Jet Lawrence,
31:26especially at this race, he's never lost.
31:27Come here, if you finish on a podium,
31:29it feels like a failure compared to all this other success.
31:32But I think this is a great moto for Jet because he's gotten better.
31:36He looks a lot better.
31:37And he was able to hold off Hayden when Hayden was going,
31:39if he can finish this thing off.
31:41And the one guy that's out front, at least he's your brother,
31:44so you understand how good he is.
31:46We know how good Jorge is.
31:47So I think it's all right for Jet Lawrence.
31:52And that gap stays about the same,
31:54that two to four second range between Jet and Deegan
31:57as they followed each other from outside the top ten to in it.
32:01And Justin Cooper, as he always does,
32:03hanging strong around those podium positions,
32:06the rider out of New York on the Yamaha,
32:08a steady third.
32:11Prado stalking Hunter for the first half of this one
32:13that Hunter got away.
32:15Does Deegan have a charge in him?
32:16Can he get to Jet one more time with two to go?
32:20Yeah, I mean, Hayden ran his 2-19-7,
32:23that last lap compared to Jet, 2-26.
32:27But both those guys were,
32:29Jet was a faster, second faster,
32:31Justin Cooper.
32:32Hayden was two seconds faster.
32:33So that gap's starting to close.
32:35If Justin doesn't keep this pace up
32:37in the next lap and a half,
32:38he's going to have that number one all over him.
32:41Yeah, because there is a major carrot dangling
32:44in front of Deegan.
32:45You know he wants to get to Lawrence.
32:46Lawrence doesn't want to let him do it.
32:48And that's going to bring them closer to this 32
32:51who is in third.
32:52Lap and a half to go.
32:54If you're Justin Cooper,
32:55you'll be like, all this hype,
32:56I'm the number one guy on the race team out here.
32:59That's right.
33:00You know, with his team.
33:00But not, you know,
33:03not unexpected with Justin Cooper.
33:05He's really good.
33:06This next lap and a half or half a lap
33:08is going to tell you whether he can hold this off.
33:11Okay, here's the gap.
33:13That's a lap rider and another one.
33:14Cooper hits the top of that left-hander.
33:16Then there's Jet Lawrence.
33:18Then another rider a lap down.
33:21Yeah, Jet lost some time.
33:22So I wonder if he got stuff behind these guys
33:25or Justin picked it up.
33:27There's Deegan.
33:28He's still pushing.
33:29Oh, yeah.
33:31He kind of knows, like,
33:33if he's going to have any shot at Jet,
33:34it would have to be why he's stuck behind these lapers.
33:36But Jet seems like he's cleared it.
33:38A little hard.
33:39But almost just a little over a lap and a half left.
33:42I don't know if there's going to be any changes now.
33:44White flag about to fly.
33:46Hunter Lawrence looking to start this season so well.
33:50Prado solid in second.
33:52And Justin Cooper doing what he does.
33:55Way under the radar.
33:56Not a lot of talk.
33:57No hype for this guy.
33:58But looking to put it on the podium.
34:00That's what he does.
34:01I was talking to his team and his mechanic earlier.
34:03They say, honestly, in some ways,
34:05Jay Coop might actually almost be too smart.
34:08He's very calculated.
34:09Very analytical.
34:10That's why he's been incredibly consistent in his career.
34:13but doesn't have as many race wins as the riders he's generally battling with on the track.
34:20Justin Cooper has never missed a pro motocross race since he turned pro,
34:25which is an astounding stat.
34:27250 and 450 class has never not lined up for a race.
34:31He's been able to stay healthy for the most part.
34:32And now one lap to go for the man who is the poster child for left brain thinking.
34:39The logical, analytical, unemotional 96.
34:42If there's anyone equipped to take a heartbreaking loss in Supercross,
34:46put it behind him, and win two weeks later, it's this guy right here.
34:50Absolutely, absolutely.
34:52I mean, you could go on days about what makes Hunter Lawrence a Hunter Lawrence.
34:56I mean, yes, he has the talent.
34:57He has the team.
34:57He has a perfect system.
34:59But what he has is an understanding and, you know, realization on life.
35:04He has perspective.
35:05Yeah.
35:05And that guy, to be Jet Lawrence's brother, to be your younger brother,
35:09taking all this hype, finished second to him two years in a row,
35:13really close to lose another championship by one point when you could almost say he was the best guy
35:18through the latter, at least the second part of that season.
35:21But to always get back up and fight and to live through that,
35:25that's why he can come out here and have a board and race when we have all this hype of
35:29everybody else.
35:30This guy's been doing, shows up and does exactly what he did a few weeks ago in Supercross.
35:35It made it look really easy to me.
35:37And technically, this will actually be two straight moto wins because Hunter won the final moto of last year.
35:43He was able to hold Jet off at Bud's Creek at the last race of the year.
35:46And talking to some people at the team with Honda, including Trey Kennard, their test rider.
35:52I mean, he said that's a big breakthrough as Hunter was getting closer and closer.
35:56We saw him hold Jet off at halfway point of the season at Millville, Minnesota.
36:00He has been getting closer and closer to that elusive 450 title.
36:04He don't get much closer than he was a few weeks ago in Supercross.
36:08Could this be the campaign where he gets it done?
36:12You can't start it any better.
36:14No, it looks good.
36:15As I said, during Supercross, nobody's raced this version of Hunter Lawrence.
36:19I mean, he hasn't seen this probably the best his whole career.
36:22And this is what you get.
36:24This guy has it all.
36:26And all is going to include the first moto win of the year.
36:29Maybe not the hype of everyone else.
36:31How about the results?
36:33Hunter Lawrence wins the first moto of 2026.
36:38And it's going to battle right down to the line.
36:40Solid run for Prado's second.
36:43And Jay Coop is going to take it across in third.
36:46He takes a look over.
36:47Holds off Hunter or Jet Lawrence just behind Prado and Hunter.
36:52And welcome back to ProMotoCross.
36:54I don't think Jet Lawrence is 100%, but it's enough to score points in fourth.
37:00And Hayden Deegan will end up fifth.
37:02A great ride from our top five.
37:04Hayden Deegan as well.
37:06RJ.
37:08If I'm the Lawrence camp, I'm very happy.
37:11We know Hunter.
37:11We know he's back.
37:12Jet looked better throughout that moto.
37:15A solid day for all these guys.
37:22And as always, the unemotional approach takes a moto win, takes it in stride.
37:27Hunter Lawrence.
37:29That's a big one.
37:30He just doesn't let you see it.
