Transcript
00:00Hello, thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Overall, Friday should be a lot drier and for many a bit warmer than Thursday.
00:08We saw quite a bit of wet weather moving from west to east.
00:12A few showers continue through the night in western areas, damp and drizzly over hills and coasts in particular.
00:17But much of eastern England, eastern Scotland becoming dry through the night with some clear spells.
00:23Quite mild air in place though across the UK, quite a humid feel through the day today.
00:28And that persists certainly across the south where temperatures will hold up through the night at 14 or 15 Celsius.
00:33Some clearer skies over northeast Scotland could allow temperatures to dip down into single figures.
00:38But overall, quite a warm start to Friday.
00:41Still quite claggy, quite grey, quite humid and still quite damp for parts of Northern Ireland, northwest England and Wales.
00:48Although the rain not as persistent or as heavy as it was through Thursday.
00:53Some brighter skies to start with over northeast England and eastern Scotland.
00:56And many places will actually brighten up through the day.
00:58I'm hopeful the rain and drizzle tend to ease off.
01:01And we'll see some lengthy spells of sunshine by the afternoon over Wales, the Midlands, northern England and Northern Ireland.
01:07Some sunny spells in western Scotland.
01:09But quite a few showers packing in here on a brisk breeze.
01:12It may just stay fairly cloudy across the far south of England too.
01:17Still quite breezy, although not as windy perhaps as it was on Thursday.
01:20And certainly for many places, quite a bit warmer.
01:24Temperatures back over 20 Celsius over central and eastern parts in particular.
01:28How do those numbers compare to Thursdays?
01:30Well, this map shows the temperature difference.
01:33And as you can see, parts of eastern England where the rain's been slowest to clear through Thursday afternoon
01:38could be six or seven degrees warmer on Friday afternoon compared to Thursday afternoon.
01:44Whereas the difference isn't as notable further west because temperatures won't be as high here.
01:49And there'll be plenty of showers packing into northwest Scotland.
01:51They'll continue through Friday evening.
01:53Elsewhere, if you're out on Friday evening, most places will be dry.
01:56But the likelihood of some showery rain returning to northern England and Northern Ireland by first thing on Saturday.
02:03Overall though, the weekend certainly across the south looking largely dry with some sunny spells.
02:07It will turn a bit drier further north, but expect showers to come south into northern England, Northern Ireland.
02:13And certainly it could be quite a wet Saturday across northern Scotland with that wind coming in from the north
02:19here,
02:19bringing a fresh feel for sure.
02:21Elsewhere though, temperatures certainly higher than it had been for most of this week.
02:25If anything, maybe not quite as high as Friday's values.
02:29But still across the south, he's getting back over 20 degrees Celsius.
02:33Whereas we'll struggle in the teens, perhaps across parts of northern Scotland.
02:37So generally warming up, but it's not a straightforward scenario.
02:41As we head into Sunday, it does generally look drier and warmer for most parts of the UK.
02:46The showers from this weather front tending to pull away on Saturday night.
02:50And then high pressure is trying to build in, which will, as I say, bring many of us some fine
02:55weather on Sunday,
02:56probably into Monday as well.
02:58For more details on the fall weekend forecast, you'll want to catch that with Claire Nazir.
03:03And that's available on our YouTube channel.
