27 April - National evening forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello again. Very good evening to you. Now, there is some heavy, showery rain at the moment, and that's going
00:06to continue for a little while yet.
00:08But generally, the theme through this week is for higher pressure again to be dominating, and so it is largely
00:14settled.
00:14Notice, however, tighter packed ice bars towards the south. So, similar to last week, there will still be some strong
00:21winds towards southern parts in particular.
00:23Let's go back to the here and now, though, and as I mentioned, some hefty, showery rain could be quite
00:27thundery over the next few hours across parts of eastern England.
00:31There could even be a bit of hail and some strong, gusty winds mixed in with it. Elsewhere, a lot
00:35of drier weather, and actually, we start the night largely clear towards western parts,
00:39but thicker cloud in the east will gradually encroach its way further westwards, and there may be a few outbreaks
00:45of mostly light, perhaps drizzly rain mixed in with this as well,
00:48starting off in the east, but later that will filter further westwards.
00:52Some western parts, particularly western Scotland and across parts of Northern Ireland, will have clearer skies,
00:57and under these clearer skies, temperatures could drop low enough for a touch of frost.
01:01There will also be some mist and fog patches developing, so some murkiness.
01:05As a result, many of us start the day on Tuesday quite grey. There's thick cloud for many places, and
01:12then there's the mist and murk and fog towards the northwest.
01:16Where we have that thicker cloud, a mild start to the day compared to some recent days, and actually worth
01:21noting, the cloud's actually going to burn away from the east,
01:24and so it is going to turn increasingly bright, increasingly sunny for many, particularly across central and eastern areas, some
01:31western parts, southern and southwestern areas,
01:33clinging on to that cloud through large chunks of the day, and some of that murkiness could actually linger in
01:39a few places across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland as well.
01:42There will be a few outbreaks of drizzly rain through the morning. Most of that will clear away towards the
01:46west, but also watch out for some showers developing around some English Channel coastal parts.
01:51Could be a little bit on the heavy side, but most places will avoid these, and by the time that
01:56we get to the mid-afternoon, well, it's looking fine and largely sunny for many of us,
02:01with temperatures a few degrees down compared to today, and also when you factor in some brisk winds, particularly towards
02:07the south, it's going to feel a fair bit fresher as well.
02:10The exception perhaps towards the northwest here, temperatures around are a little bit above average for the time of year,
02:15and less windy here,
02:16because of the proximity, how close you are to that area of high pressure that I highlighted at the start.
02:22So, a generally fine picture for many as we go through the evening, just still a few showers to watch
02:28out for for a little while as we go overnight towards the far south.
02:31For most, however, largely clear skies, much clearer skies than we're expecting through this coming night.
02:37Bit of low cloud, perhaps some mist and murk pushing into some North Sea coastal parts, particularly eastern Scotland, northeast
02:43England,
02:43but for most, yes, clear skies, as a result, temperatures are going to drop a little bit lower than this
02:49coming night for many places,
02:50especially towards the north and the northwest.
02:53Further south, that brisk wind will stop temperatures from dropping too low, and as a result, also not really expecting
03:00much of any frost here.
03:02But elsewhere, across parts of Northern Ireland, some parts of Scotland, particularly towards the southeast,
03:07and also across parts of northern England, and also northwest Wales, could see a touch of frost first thing on
03:14Wednesday morning.
03:15So, a bit of a chilly start here, and also quite a bright one for many places.
03:20Any mist and murkiness towards those North Sea coastal parts, most of this will burn back towards the coast pretty
03:26quickly,
03:26once the sun comes up, and then a largely sunny day for most.
03:30Not everyone, because down towards the southwest, parts of Devon and more so Cornwall likely to see some showery outbreaks
03:36of rain,
03:37or some showers really pushing through, and some of them could be a little bit on the heavy side,
03:41and still some strong blustery winds affecting some southern areas, with the winds getting lighter the further north you go.
03:48Temperatures, well, maybe up a degree or so compared to Tuesday,
03:51so feeling warm in that sunshine for sure, with many places getting into the mid to high teens Celsius.
03:56Just a bit fresher the closer you are towards the North Sea,
04:00and always that nagging breeze really towards the south-southwest,
04:03making it feel a little bit cooler than these temperatures may suggest.
04:07As we go through the rest of the week, well, there is more fine weather to come.
04:12It's going to be a little while before that high pressure drifts away,
04:15so Thursday's generally fine.
04:17But then there are signs of something a bit more changeable arriving as we head towards, well, that bank holiday
04:23weekend.
04:24So definitely worth staying up to date with the forecast,
04:27especially if you do have any outdoor plans that may be impacted by the weather.
04:31I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
