00:00Are you okay and settled where Todd Munkin is with the quarterbacks here?
00:03Well, he's nowhere with the quarterbacks.
00:04So, yeah, I'm fine with it.
00:05Are you settled with that?
00:07Yeah, he is really.
00:08He hasn't seen him yet, Andy.
00:10And Daryl's right.
00:11You know, Todd says.
00:12I'm sure he's seen him on tape, all of them, multiple times.
00:16So, have you and I seen, you know, Deshaun when he was back in the day
00:20when he was really good?
00:22And Daryl's right.
00:24Okay.
00:25He might look athletic on the practice field when nobody's going to hit him.
00:28We'll see what happens moving forward.
00:31I just think they're not in a good spot at quarterback.
00:34And anybody who thinks they are is, A, mistaken,
00:39and, B, just trying to be optimistic.
00:40And that's okay.
00:41That's all right.
00:43Yeah, I know.
00:45We'll play some of these cuts here in a second for you
00:46because Todd Munkin did talk about the quarterback situation.
00:50And, you know, he got into it and talked.
00:54I just, as a fan, I don't know if it makes a difference
00:58if they know who the quarterback is today.
01:00I think you're just revving up the fan base if you want to just say a little.
01:04You know why you want a quarterback?
01:05We want somebody to separate himself.
01:09We want somebody to separate himself.
01:12Yeah.
01:12In other words, we want a clear cut.
01:14This guy's better than everybody else.
01:16I don't care which one it is.
01:17But do you expect that in May?
01:19Well, no, but I want it as soon as possible.
01:22And I would hope that in May that's the case.
01:27Because you know what?
01:28If you don't find one, if you keep going, you keep going, you keep going,
01:32that to me means nobody looks that good.
01:37My guess is it's very unlikely that we're going to have two quarterbacks
01:41who you just think this guy's got Pro Bowl,
01:45like when they actually meant something when you went to the Pro Bowl,
01:48written all over him.
01:50I don't think you're going to have two of those.
01:52I don't think we have either.
01:53I hope you have one of them.
01:54And that's why I want Todd Munkin to look at the practice field
02:00and see fill-in-the-blank at quarterback and think,
02:04that guy is so much better than everybody else.
02:06He's my starter.
02:08I don't think we're getting there.
02:10What did Todd have to say there last night, Dan?
02:13Deshaun's athleticism shows up.
02:15Obviously, he's had that, but he's had his injuries that have set him back.
02:18But that's been, I wouldn't say a surprise, but it's exciting to see.
02:21It's a weapon for him.
02:22It's one of his superpowers is athleticism.
02:25And I think Shadour's come miles in terms of his progressions,
02:30getting the ball out, his understanding of concepts.
02:33I think he's really, really come a long way.
02:38And all that's nice.
02:39Yeah.
02:40And I mean that with complete sincerity.
02:42That's nice.
02:44But what's he going to say?
02:45You know what?
02:46I took this job.
02:47I'm really happy to be here.
02:48I had Lamar Jackson help him win an MVP.
02:51And Lamar is really good.
02:53He was good before I got there.
02:55But these are the guys I have.
02:57And boy, they're miserable.
02:59He's not going to say that.
03:00This is what he has to deal with.
03:02So he's going to use every opportunity to pump them up.
03:08And he should.
03:09I mean, he's doing what he's supposed to do.
03:11I would just love it if he said,
03:13this guy is so clearly better than everybody else.
03:16He's our starter.
03:17I just think he doesn't want to get caught in a lie either.
03:20No, he's not going to do it until the absolute earliest.
03:25Last would be like his last press conference at the end of mandatory OTAs.
03:31Mandatory minicamp, I should say.
03:33Don't you think?
03:34Yeah, I think someone needs to come back into camp as the leader in the clubhouse
03:38to be able to have the job.
03:39And I would think he doesn't say that until the last possible moment.
03:44Unless it's so clear that the players are already saying,
03:48hey, you know, man, Deshaun looked good out there today.
03:50What about you?
03:51Oh, well, Deshaun's our quarterback.
03:53That's where he might get over it.
03:56Yeah, but he doesn't have to say that until.
03:58No, I'm talking about the players.
03:59Yeah, I know.
04:00When they start asking players about the questions,
04:02then the players have to watch everything they say about how they answer everything.
04:06I would think that, I mean, Munkin's worked with quarterbacks his entire career.
04:11Yeah.
04:11He probably already knows right now who he wants to start.
04:16Wouldn't you agree?
04:17I mean, he's not.
04:19It's not like he's new to this.
04:20Well, I think on paper, if you just kind of looked and said, all right, I'm a first-year
04:26head coach.
04:26I've got some young wide receivers we're trying to make better.
04:30I've got a new offensive line compared to what these guys had last year.
04:34I need someone that I think can run the offense, that I want run.
04:40I'm probably going to lean on the guy that has more experience.
04:44I think it's just an easier play.
04:45Daryl said something I thought was interesting about Sanders, that Sanders will play if he's
04:50not the starting quarterback.
04:51He'll be the starting quarterback at some point.
04:54It's Watson's job, then, to make sure that doesn't happen.
04:58If they come out and win the first game, you're not switching quarterbacks unless he's throwing
05:02three or four picks in a game and they're pick sixes and he just looks absolutely horrific
05:07and that they're winning because of defense.
05:09I mean, I can't think of another scenario where you might, if Watson comes out and wins,
05:15I don't think you're going to lean on your young quarterback.
05:19The investment in, I want to say, I'm almost to a point where I just wish they would have
05:24started Shador last year and went forward so we'd have just a much bigger resume for
05:30him to be able to say, okay.
05:32But I also wish that I didn't hear things about Shador, you know, not, you know, when
05:36they told him right away that you're not ready and that maybe he didn't want to dive right
05:42into the playbook or he didn't want, like, there were some negative things that we heard
05:45about Shador that made me wish, man, I wish he would have just come in here and said,
05:48you know what, I know they're looking at me like I'm the number three or four quarterback,
05:51but I am going to approach every day like I'm the starting quarterback and I'm going
05:55to study harder than the other quarterbacks that are even here, including Joe Flacco at
06:00the time.
06:01So, I mean, do I wish some of this stuff would have happened last year because I think our
06:05path to having a quarterback, a regular full-time quarterback would be a little more clear?
06:10Yes.
06:11By the same token, we don't know what Watson is, man.
06:14We don't know.
06:15No, this is not, and Daryl's right, this is not the Watson that was really good in Houston.
06:20We don't know.
06:21The injuries, we don't know.
06:24Can't even, we just don't know.
06:26But if you're Munkin, you know what his resume looks like compared to everybody else's on the
06:31roster.
06:32Now, that said, is Munkin looking at him saying, you know what, this guy deserves a second chance.
06:37And so here's what he had to say.
06:40Well, he's been great.
06:41I think everybody would say it.
06:43I'm all for a clean slate.
06:45You know, I want the best for every player that we have.
06:47Every coach.
06:48I want the best for, you know, anybody in this world to have a great life.
06:52I think it's really cool that he still has an opportunity with a change, right, to showcase
06:57his ability, see where he's at.
06:58I'm all for it.
07:01I'm Todd Munkin for Humanity.
07:04What do you want him to say?
07:07Hey, I want him to say he looks every bit as good as he did when he was playing the
07:11best
07:11part, best football in his life.
07:13That's not happening.
07:14Well, not yet.
07:16Do I think you never will?
07:18No.
07:18But you can't say that yet because you're not playing anybody.
07:21You know what I mean?
07:22You're getting, you get into games and Deshaun looks really good.
07:26He's mobile.
07:26His arm looks like he has an arm again as opposed to what we saw the last time he was
07:31out on the field.
07:32Then you can say anything you want.
07:35Just give it a little time.
07:37Let's see.
07:38I just, I think the last thing Munkin probably wants, Andy, is everybody all summer to be
07:44thinking about who's the starting quarterback of this team and then training camp to start
07:49getting the same question every time he talks to the media.
07:54And don't yell at the media for that.
07:55But that's what he, that's what his job is, is to decide who the guy is.
08:00So once he decides, that narrative will go away.
08:05But he'll feel pressure.
08:07If it's not Sanders, he's going to hear, he'll hear outside noise.
08:10And it's up to him to listen to it.
08:13That's all.
08:13If he wants to listen to it, he listens to it.
08:14If he doesn't, it doesn't.
08:16Yeah.
08:16It's his job.
08:17So what if he gets outside noise?
08:21You know?
08:21I agree.
08:22So what if he gets outside noise?
08:23And by the way, I agree.
08:24Although Kevin Stefanski didn't listen to the outside noise and he's now in Atlanta.
08:29Maybe a blessing for him.
08:31I ultimately agree with Daryl.
08:33I agree with Dan.
08:35I know Dan has said this.
08:37Ultimately, what do you want?
08:38You want Shadour to be the best guy there.
08:40What you're saying?
08:41I don't want that?
08:42I don't know.
08:43Do you?
08:43Yeah.
08:44I want...
08:44You've mentioned...
08:45I just said two minutes ago.
08:46I don't want Watson a lot, as you should.
08:49No, I've always said Watson will have another opportunity to be the quarterback.
08:52And there's nothing wrong with that.
08:53Because of the return on investment.
08:55What I really would have liked is what I just said, that I wish Sanders would have been
08:59named the starting quarterback last year.
09:01Oh.
09:01So that we would have...
09:02You mean like at the beginning of the year?
09:03Yeah.
09:04So we would have had the opportunity...
09:05They didn't like him as well as Dylan.
09:06They showed us that on draft day.
09:08Well, Kevin didn't like him that.
09:10Well, how do we know?
09:11Andrew Barry didn't either.
09:12Andrew drafted him.
09:14Did he?
09:15I question everything.
09:16Well, you can be sure it wasn't Kevin.
09:18No, but maybe it was the owner.
09:20Drafting Dylan Gabriel over Shadour Sanders?
09:23No.
09:23The owner didn't do that.
09:24But wanting Sanders to be here.
09:25And if Sanders...
09:26But that's okay.
09:27But here's my point.
09:28At the time, Andy, they clearly liked Dylan more.
09:30But if they gave Sanders...
09:32And this is an old...
09:33I'm not getting into this again.
09:34But if they would have given Sanders the opportunity to try to win the job last year...
09:39There were two things they did that was absolutely ridiculous.
09:42One, drafting two quarterbacks.
09:43Two, bringing in two veterans that they knew weren't going to be here past week two.
09:49Like, what the hell were they thinking?
09:51So, if that was the case and you were going to get rid of the veterans in the first place...
09:55Why not give the young guys a chance?
09:57And they could have given Sanders an opportunity to try to win the job early.
10:01When you had the veterans here, he had no chance.
10:04None.
10:05Zero.
10:06Zilch.
10:06They weren't going to give him any reps in camp to do that.
10:09And what'd they do?
10:10Well, then we went into another season where maybe the big plan was just to get to the draft
10:15so they could get more players in here.
10:16And they didn't care if they won or lost.
10:19I don't...
10:20There was a part of me that thought, you know what?
10:22Your head coach, who's now in Atlanta, wanted those veterans here because I think he wanted
10:26to win last year.
10:27I don't know if winning was the ultimate goal of last season.
10:31It's frustrating.
10:31I mean, I'm frustrated in May.
10:34Uncle.
