00:00All right, you want to start a fight? Let's start a fight.
00:03I don't know if we're starting a fight.
00:04What's the fight about? Our football team held their own.
00:07That's true. You know what? Positive. Positive.
00:10You know what? That's a good thing.
00:12Todd Munkin was excited. That's right.
00:14I mean, you sit there. I got all year to get negative.
00:17Let's look at what it was yesterday.
00:18You took on a good football team, and your head coach was excited.
00:21Now we'll hear from Sal Capaccio coming up at 720.
00:24Hopefully, it'll stay positive.
00:26But Todd Munkin's excited.
00:28He was excited that they competed.
00:31I'm excited because Todd Munkin was excited.
00:33I don't know how good the season's going to be,
00:35but at least you went out there and you competed against a good football team.
00:39Yes, hit it, please.
00:40Todd, was that a lot of fun? Holy s***.
00:43Was that fun to compete against someone else?
00:45Their guys, our guys, got a lot of respect for the Bills.
00:50And it got a little edgy, but not over the top.
00:53And that's exactly what you're looking for.
00:55Guys want to compete, right?
00:57Got a lot of pride in the way they perform.
00:59And I thought, oh, guys, I can only speak to one side.
01:02Obviously, the field I was on, but it was awesome.
01:05And commend the Bills and our guys for, like I said, taking it to the line,
01:10but not going over the line.
01:12Now, before we get to fairness, is there any concern with how the defense did against the Bills offense?
01:22Because I do have a theory about that, which might be an excuse to some people,
01:26but I'm still going to give it.
01:27Go ahead.
01:27I think it's really, really a good sign.
01:31It's a good sign.
01:32Well, just overall.
01:33There was a bit of a struggle.
01:34No, no.
01:34I'm talking about overall.
01:36I want to say it's a good sign that, you know, you're hanging with them.
01:39Now, as far as, you know, the fact that our defense already razor thin and Alex Wright going down,
01:47like you've seen how many defensive linemen we've already brought in, ghosts from yesteryear,
01:53Jannard Avery, Genevieve and Clowney.
01:56Who was the last one?
01:56The Alex Wright injury is scary.
01:59Zedarius Smith.
02:00The Alex Wright injury is scary, to say the least.
02:03Obviously, all of that stuff does make me really nervous because there's only so much that Denzel Ward can do.
02:08By the way, we are going so overboard on all of this stuff, and I could be just as guilty
02:13of this,
02:15but seeing three videos of Jared Verse not being able to get past that big left tackle of theirs.
02:22Deion Dawkins, correct.
02:23Yeah, guys, that's not the end of the world.
02:24I think we need to settle down here.
02:28Let's wait until we've actually seen him in real games and in the playoffs, Rex Shop.
02:33He has had monstrous playoff performances, so I think we need to.
02:37Well, we keep saying he's not Myles Garrett.
02:38He's not Myles Garrett.
02:39We need to slow down a little bit on that.
02:40I saw that, and I'm like, okay.
02:42I know we like to have fun with a throw here or there with a quarterback.
02:46I think we can ease up.
02:49I'm going after Jared Verse.
02:51Can I share a theory here about the defense?
02:54Is it your contention as well that you believe that they've been a little bit frustrated or not frustrated a
03:01little bit?
03:02They've done it a little bit tight throughout this preseason.
03:04It's gotten a little chippy.
03:06They can't even get real work in at times.
03:08But that's my point of it.
03:09I think there's been some frustration there because you have a defense that the guys that are on that defense,
03:15and I think Jared Verse knows going in like, okay, you're going to have to get something figured out offensively
03:19here.
03:19And that means that if you're going to win a football game, it's going to take more defense.
03:23And so if you have this defense here and you're going up against this offense that at times has been
03:28a tragedy within camp,
03:31having to end practice early, 11 minutes left to go on clocks,
03:34I mean, just so many things that have made Todd Munkin very frustrated, and he's admitted that.
03:39And I think that's why he was so encouraged to say, it's like, okay, you're going up against a good
03:42football team.
03:43Now, I know their defense hasn't been known to be the very, very greatest in the history over the last
03:47couple of years
03:48because they've had to switch out some guys.
03:50I mean, they've had some unfortunate injuries, and they've had to switch out some things on the roster.
03:54As things have gone on, they're kind of going through it themselves over the last couple of years.
03:58But the reason I bring this up is that you've had a frustrating offense in training camp.
04:04You were only able to go against the twos of the Chicago Bears, so it's not Caleb Williams out there.
04:09And then you're sitting there, if you're on the defense, you're thinking, we've got to get a look, we've got
04:15to get going.
04:16Because yesterday, I think there probably were some guys walking off the field defensively going,
04:22this is what we've been talking about.
04:24We've got to get a good look.
04:26You have to be, the word of the day is operational.
04:29You've got to be operational over there so we can get ready ourselves to get ready to take on guys
04:35like Josh.
04:36I mean, I know their schedule ain't that great, but you're still going to face some good quarterbacks out there.
04:41Maybe not Josh Allen good, but I've got to get a look so I can get ready for the season.
04:47I mean, Trevor Lawrence, I don't think, is God's gift to the position.
04:50I mean, they called him generational.
04:51I didn't think it then, and I don't think it now.
04:53But he's still certainly a high-functioning quarterback.
04:56Not Josh Allen, but he still can put it on you.
04:58So you've got to get ready for the season.
05:00And Jared Verse and Denzel Ward and Carson Swessinger and guys who have been around even long, Quincy Williams,
05:05they know that.
05:06They know that.
05:07So you're going to be frustrated in the course of the preseason.
05:11But there's been a lot of conversation about fairness.
05:13And I got something to go ripping on coming up at 8 o'clock that I heard, and I'm not
05:17very thrilled about it.
05:18But, you know, there's been a lot of conversation about fairness.
05:20I really do.
05:21I think that Todd Munkin's handled this well.
05:24I hope that people heard Jason Lloyd on with Nick and Jonathan yesterday,
05:28where Jason had said that Todd Munkin's going to make this decision, which we've been telling everybody.
05:33I know that a lot of people just want to rep themselves around the theory about Jimmy Haslam making the
05:39decision.
05:39But, nope, he hired him for a reason.
05:41So Todd Munkin's going to make the call.
05:42I think the coach has 100% call on this.
05:45And I do think Deshaun has outplayed Shador.
05:47The way that they are seeing it is Deshaun has been better.
05:50Deshaun had the lead coming in because of his experience.
05:53I mean, he hasn't run away with it by any means.
05:55But I think in their minds that he has performed better throughout camp.
05:58It's his job, at least to start the year.
06:01I don't think that there's interference from above.
06:03I have wondered that at times over the years with this team.
06:07And I no longer believe that.
06:08I believe the head coach has final say on the depth chart on the quarterbacks.
06:13It's hard for me to get really frustrated with fans who believe this because, again, they've had a track record
06:18with it before.
06:18So you get blamed right on you.
06:20It takes a while to get that stink off you if you've made these decisions before.
06:23But I think that this has been as fair a competition as fair is going to be in the NFL.
06:27I don't think very much of anything is fair in the NFL.
06:30I mean, you've got the politics that get involved with it.
06:32Yes, owners do get involved.
06:34We've talked about that.
06:35They've been involved here.
06:36You have coaches that they bring in their pet cats and they have their preconceived notions of people.
06:40Because they're tasked with winning football games and as many as possible as soon as they possibly can.
06:45And so they have an idea.
06:46I think he's been as fair as he possibly can be knowing what we were texted the day he was
06:52hired.
06:52That he wanted to work with Deshaun Watson.
06:56The one.
06:57And I think that this has been as fair as possible over these last many months.
07:03Because I think that he's given Shador Sanders opportunity to show if he can be in an operation that's functional
07:11within the offense.
07:13So it's never going to be 100%, 100%, everything is the same on each.
07:20But it is going to be as fair, I think it's been as fair a quarterback competition as you're going
07:25to find in all of the NFL this year.
07:29Do you disagree?
07:32If you disagree, let me have it.
07:35First of all, how many competitions are there even taking place now that the Minnesota one?
07:39Well, you had the Minnesota competition.
07:41Did you think that that was a very fair competition?
07:42It seems like they are done with it.
07:44It seems the only person who liked J.J. McCarthy in the state of Minnesota was Kwasi.
07:50That's about it.
07:52Yeah.
07:53But I think he had his shot.
07:56He had to be, you know, you would say on paper you didn't think he'd have to be that good
08:00because Watson, you know, is Deshaun Watson at this stage of his career.
08:05But I just don't think Shador crushed it the way that he would have needed to.
08:10And, look, that was – it's not easy to do.
08:13We only had seven games last year.
08:14New head coach, new terminology, all that stuff to try to learn, vastly different from anything in college that he
08:21was able to excel at.
08:22Like, that was not going to always be the easiest thing in the world.
08:25What I think, though, that – maybe I should be clear.
08:28I do think he started in second place.
08:30But I think they've given him opportunities to pass.
08:34And it hasn't got there yet.
08:36And I don't – it's not like it's not never going to get there.
08:38I think he'll have his opportunity during the regular season.
08:41But I think next week they're going to announce Deshaun the starter.
08:43Yeah, that probably on Sunday or Monday.
08:45And that's the part of this that I think you've got to at least try to be open to if
08:51you were Shador or nothing.
08:53If you're such a Shador fan and you don't even care about the Browns if it's anybody but Shador.
08:59I understand that allegiance.
09:00Just be patient.
09:01He's going to get his opportunity.
09:03It's not the end of the world.
09:04Now, once he gets that opportunity, boy, does he have a limited time frame to make the most of it.
09:10He's not going to get three years like Josh Allen did.
09:12You know, I've seen a lot of people say, wait, the Bills were patient with Josh Allen.
09:16Well, we all have to understand what reality is.
09:20And unfortunately for Shador, he's not going to have three years to try to figure it out, right?
09:26He's going to get this year and that is it.
09:28To be a starting quarterback etched in stone, you've got that job going into the following year.
09:34Like, he's not going to be afforded what so many quarterbacks have been afforded.
09:39But even now, I mean, today's NFL, even guys now have less time than they've ever had.
09:43You know, as we saw with Sam Darnold.
09:46As we saw with a lot of the, Josh Rosen was like one and done.
09:49Like, you don't get the time that you used to get.
09:51But he's got to make the most of it once he gets that opportunity.
09:54So he's just got to stay ready.
09:56And judging by the past of Deshaun Watson and all the evidence we have,
10:00Shador is going to get the shot this year.
10:02And he's just got to be ready to go.
10:03Coming up in about last night at 745, one of the more bizarre headlines I think I've ever read about
10:09the Cleveland Browns.
10:10And think about the history that that takes in.
