00:00Jeremy Fowler was on SportsCenter this weekend and had this quote that got a lot of people
00:05feeling some sort of way.
00:07Quote, unquote, this is on Deshaun Watson.
00:09I'm told he's hit it off with Todd Munkin, who's got an offensive concept, some elements
00:14that Watson has run in the past and been his best at.
00:18So I'm feeling about that, Super Chief.
00:20Well, the some elements part is funny because...
00:22Super Chief?
00:22Yeah, he's trying to.
00:23All right.
00:24He's seeing how it goes.
00:25The some elements part is funny because, like, isn't one of the appeals of Munkin that he
00:28can just do anything with anybody?
00:30I think so.
00:30Like, one of the selling points was the idea that he doesn't have a system.
00:34He just adapts to whoever his quarterback is.
00:37So shouldn't some elements exist for Shador the same way it would exist for Deshaun?
00:40I think, hypothetically, you're speaking or you're barking up the right tree.
00:44All right.
00:44So then outside of that, the news that we got this weekend is a head coach likes a potential
00:48starting quarterback as a person.
00:49Yep.
00:50We don't even know as a quarterback, but as a person.
00:52Yep.
00:52I think that's...
00:53We're boiling it down to the right direction there.
00:55And yet, I can see how people got all up in their feelings over the weekend because
00:59we have no news ever in regards to this quarterback race.
01:02And we're trying to search for anything and any sort of insight.
01:05And this is where I'm going to drive myself crazy, Nick, because I don't know how to do
01:08it with an honest and actual approach to how we have these discussions and how we even
01:13do this big quarterback battle.
01:15Like, OTAs are starting up this week.
01:17We're going to have all sorts of different things.
01:19Media's there on Wednesday.
01:20So we got, I think, one day.
01:21Are we going to hear from Deshaun, by the way?
01:23Zero idea.
01:24Okay.
01:24No clue.
01:25This was supposed to be the day, right, when the media told us that, oh, you're overreacting.
01:29Yeah.
01:29They speak all the time.
01:31We got a long summer.
01:32This was supposed to be the day, I would think, that then Deshaun would speak.
01:35And then you could ask him about what a great relationship he has with Todd Munkin.
01:38Yeah.
01:39And then he could be like, yeah, we do have a great relationship.
01:41Sure.
01:42Of course.
01:42We're going to have all sorts of things like that.
01:43But I don't know what to do with this because we haven't seen Deshaun play in so long.
01:50Nobody can tell you what he is or what he's going to be.
01:53And how am I supposed to cap this if it's just going to be a bunch of Jeremy Fowler reports
01:57the entire time?
01:58It feels like if Todd Munkin gets his way, and Todd Munkin has said, it'd be great if
02:03we could get the quarterback lined up before training camp, right?
02:07It feels like there's going to be a big, hey, just trust us with this vibe going on.
02:12And you know, I'm into Munkin the Maximizer.
02:16With love and respect to Todd, this goes back to, well, you clean slate it.
02:21No, there's no clean slate here.
02:22No.
02:23With love and respect, I will trust you as much as I can on most parts of this.
02:27On a quarterback position that I don't see play out, I don't know how I can trust you.
02:31I don't trust him at all anyway.
02:32All the Browns have done is lie to me over the years.
02:35So why am I supposed to trust them?
02:36Like, I have a hard time.
02:36Because they really mean it this time.
02:38I have trust issues with this Browns team, okay?
02:40They constantly lie to us.
02:42They constantly tell us one thing and then do another.
02:44And then they get mad when you call out the lying and the whatnot, the misleading.
02:49I just want to, like, lay it out for everybody.
02:50So we have a quarterback battle that nobody except for, like, one day out of the week
02:54is going to be privy to for the media.
02:56And it's going to be a very short portion, and it is what it is.
02:58But, like, we have this big quarterback battle.
03:00And the entire stretch of it is just supposed to be leaked reports from reporters.
03:05And we're supposed to take that as gospel.
03:07Yep.
03:07So great.
03:08We all have no clue what is actually going to happen or go on.
03:10Yeah.
03:11Listen, I don't think – I think in their heart of hearts, if they were being very honest,
03:16they don't want a repeat of last year where everybody watched Dylan Gabriel stink in real time.
03:21Everybody watched Kenny Pickett stink in real time.
03:24Joe looked good, by the way, in the chances he did.
03:27And then Shador throwing to a ball boy.
03:29I think they want to avoid that circus of, hey, we see what's actually going on here,
03:35and you're saying something else.
03:37And then when the whole search went to hell in a handbasket, we said, well, no crap,
03:43it went to hell in a handbasket.
03:44This is how it looked the entirety of camp.
03:46Yeah.
03:46So I think they're trying to avoid that.
03:51That's not how you engender trust in your decision by just, no, no, no,
03:55we're going to – everything's behind closed doors and trust us.
04:00Yeah.
04:01You're an eight-win team over the last two years.
04:03I believe you've got more talent than that, but I can't trust you.
04:05And I saw all sorts of fans over the weekend being like, all right, Deshaun's got the advantage now.
04:10Deshaun's got – not the inside track term that Merrick K said,
04:12but Deshaun's got the inside advantage.
04:14And it's like –
04:15Because he's friends.
04:17But it's like, but what are you basing that off of?
04:18How are you even getting to that conclusion?
04:20Where are you getting that from?
04:22And that's the part that makes me so angry about it all.
04:24It's like, how do we – how do you as fans want us to even do this job?
04:29How are we even supposed to do this job when the setup is just trust whatever leaked reporter
04:33the Browns want to go ahead and tell, and that's it?
04:35Because, again, we're not privy to everything that's going on there,
04:38and we have no – we don't have access to the film and how these practices are going.
04:42We just have to go off of what they tell us.
04:43It's also the wrong job to do this with.
04:47There's a large contingent of Browns fans who are over the Shador thing
04:51in no small part because of the Shahive.
04:55There's a large contingent of Browns fans who are well over the Deshaun thing
05:01because – see notes for the Deshaun thing.
05:03You don't really need to recite any of that.
05:06So, there's already a segment of people that don't trust either quarterback
05:13or that only trust one quarterback or it's a process of elimination on who they trust.
05:18And then you're going, trust us.
05:21It's like – it's already the murkiest, weirdest quarterback room in the NFL.
05:26We get why you did it.
05:27And I think it was foolhardy considering the rest of the talent you have on the roster,
05:33albeit I can't really tell you what quarterback it would have brought in otherwise
05:36other than maybe Kyler Murray, who didn't want to be here and wanted to go to Minnesota.
05:40But, like, there's just a lot of, oh, hey, guys, we're going to figure this out.
05:45It's like, no.
05:47This is the wrong quarterback room to just be like, guys, I don't – why are you reacting to everything?
05:52Yeah, and the problem with that is we're all going to react to everything.
05:55But the reality is, Nick, is that we're only being fed what they give us, essentially.
05:59And so, like, I – am I – like, you know, the morning show always does, like,
06:04oh, with the benefit of new information.
06:06Okay, that's great.
06:07What new information are we getting out of this race?
06:09Jeremy Fowler says they like each other.
06:11Yeah, exactly.
06:11Yeah.
06:12I mean, like, do you see what I'm saying, though?
06:14Like, that's our new information.
06:16Our new information is going to come from national reporters that are going to tell us
06:19basically whatever the Browns are telling them and whatever they want out of this.
06:23So how are we supposed to actually do this?
06:25The one day that the local beat gets to actually go out there and see with their own eyes?
06:29I mean, I'll put weight into that for sure, but I'm not putting everything into that.
06:33Am I supposed to just be like, I think – I think Shador is better right now,
06:35so I guess I just have to, I don't know, dig my heels in and make that what it is?
06:39Like, what new information could present itself?
06:41I also think – I think it's a really fascinating thing to watch play out in real time.
06:49The national media's weird repositioning with Deshaun.
06:55Half of the people saying Deshaun's the best quarterback in the room right now
06:58have not watched him play football for two years like the rest of us.
07:02But half those people were the people besmirching Browns fans for asking for autographs,
07:09screaming that the Browns are an awful organization and morally bereft,
07:14and now because I don't know they don't like Shador fans,
07:18now all of a sudden it's maybe a little bit more in vogue to be on like,
07:22of course Deshaun's the best quarterback in the room.
07:25I just – it's the – oh, so – and then by the way, I'm giving one angle on that.
07:28It's the least on the level.
07:32I don't say reporting, but their kind of analysis of the quarterback room is just –
07:38it's not in concert with what's in reality because they're only –
07:41everyone's only giving one half of this.
07:44It is, well, I should actually play better than numbers, or, well, guys,
07:48he's the best quarterback in the room, and he has been because remember Houston.
07:51And none of it's – like, I just feel like everybody's kind of selling a specific side,
07:55and certainly nationally everyone seems to be lining up to back Deshaun,
08:00and I don't get that.
08:01Yeah, and I feel like we're just going to get more and more of this.
08:03And you see, it would be different if it was like training camp, Nick,
08:06because then we could be out there ourselves,
08:07and you get those daily stuff where it's covered and it's talked about
08:11and, like, reporters get to see with their own two eyes.
08:14And some of these events that do happen, but, like, for right now,
08:17it's just covered at too sparse of a rate.
08:20Not the media's fault by any measurement,
08:22but it's covered too sparsely for people to turn around and be like,
08:25oh, yeah, we know exactly what's going on.
08:27216-474-0092.
08:29So Jeremy Fowler said on SportsCenter over the weekend
08:32that he's told Deshaun has hit it off with Todd Munkin,
08:36who's got an offensive concept,
08:38some elements that Watson has run in the past and has been his best at.
08:42It's the type of report where it's like it's really damaging if it's like,
08:45yeah, so it turns out he doesn't really like Deshaun that much,
08:48and they didn't hit it off.
08:48Then it's like, whoa, what happened here?
08:51Groundbreaking.
08:52World's moving.
08:53But it's like, oh, oh, head coach is giving one of his quarterbacks a chance.
08:59Thinks he's a swell guy.
09:00Oh, oh, okay.
09:02Yeah, they're hitting it off with Todd Munkin thing.
09:04I don't think we can also sleep on the fact that this is every commentary I've heard
09:10from the quarterback perspective has been, boy, what did Kevin Stefanski do here?
09:16Because it doesn't seem like even the quarterbacks liked him,
09:18and that should be the one room that does like you, right?
09:20We don't even know that Dylan Gabriel and Stefanski got along very well,
09:23and that was supposed to be their guy.
09:24They were supposed to be hanging out together all the time.
09:27Like Shador said the most positive things about Todd Munkin.
09:30We can really relate to each other.
09:31I know Deion's been on the record recently as having said, you know,
09:35things about rah-rah with Todd Munkin.
09:38Now Deshaun, hey, I've really hit it off with Todd Munkin.
09:41Are we just going to take a six-month,
09:42is this really just a six-month victory lap on what a D Kevin Stefanski apparently was?
09:47Well, Deion does think that Munkin's one of his guys, though.
09:52Yeah.
09:52Because of the Baltimore connection.
09:54And then all the friends, Ozzie Newsome, all the guys that he knows in Baltimore.
09:57I think he thinks Munkin is just a, he's a Deion guy.
10:02I think that's how Deion kind of separates the entire world.
10:05Yeah.
10:06Are you a Deion guy or are you not a Deion guy?
10:07But I think most people live on like a day-to-day basis.
10:11My hope is that Munkin's securely, in Deion's mind, a Deion guy.
10:17So that way, if Shudor doesn't win the job, we don't have to hear that get kicked up.
10:22But if you're Munkin, if you're Munkin, you just got to be an everyone's guy at this point.
10:25And you just got to just, I guess it's one of those scenarios.
10:28But if I'm Deshaun, I'm not feeling great about it.
10:31Oh, I mean, you got to feel great.
10:33This is as good of a chance you're going to get in the NFL.
10:35No, I mean, just like the idea that I wouldn't feel great about the Baltimore connections
10:39and all that keeps getting brought up in certain ways.
10:41I don't think Munkin's going to play into that, but Deion clearly does.
10:45That's the other part of this.
10:47Like the one thing I will give, we said the trust is thing.
10:51The one thing I will, the trust I give to Todd Munkin is that he is going to make his,
10:56he's going to make his decision based on whatever his decision is based off of.
11:00Not any sort of pressure from Deion.
11:03Do you think, no, he won't, he won't care about the pressure from Deion,
11:05but do you think that, do you think each side right now feels like they are not only
11:09in the driver's seat, but actually have the leg up in this?
11:12Like when Deshaun goes to bed at night, I'm sure he thinks he's got the leg up in this.
11:16And I would imagine based off of everything we've seen with Shador, he thinks the same thing.
11:20I don't know.
11:21Cause all the reports have been publicly very great for Deshaun.
11:26I would actually, if I'm, if I'm Shador, I don't know how you feel great about where things
11:29are right now.
11:30Now the last three reports are so positive Deshaun wise, you got to wonder if you're
11:35seeding ground somehow.
11:36I'd call it like a bad week and a half from that perspective.
11:38And I think you, I think you'd still feel like you have, you got the upper edge.
