00:00All right, this is where I would like to start.
00:02I have two tweets that I want to read to you.
00:04Now, I did not create these tweets, but these tweets were sent to me,
00:07and I found these tweets to be very informative.
00:10Let's start with Vinny Pasquantino.
00:13Now, I try to be very consistent about one thing.
00:17I tell you guys this all the time in football season.
00:20It applies to baseball as well.
00:22One of the reasons why we talk about Travis Kelsey so much
00:26is because he's one of their most important players.
00:28So I'm not wasting your time talking about Jeffrey Bassa.
00:33No, we're talking about the stars because the Chiefs go and operate
00:37based on the productivity of their stars.
00:40Basketball is the same way.
00:42Baseball is the same way.
00:43Why don't we begin today's show talking about Vinny Pasquantino?
00:48One of the first texts I got today in one of my group chats
00:52was about Vinny Pasquantino.
00:54Rob, can I read this to you?
00:56Since the beginning of 2025, there has been no player in baseball
01:02who has more at-bats with runners in scoring position than Vinny Pasquantino.
01:08For a second, I just want you to wrap your mind around that sentence.
01:12Since the beginning of last baseball season, there is not a single player in the sport
01:19who has had more opportunities, more A-Bs with runners in scoring position than Vinny Pasquantino.
01:27That is 183 qualifying players.
01:31So you got to have enough A-Bs, not just coming up one time.
01:34But no, among players qualified, it's 183.
01:40Rob, he is 147th out of those individuals.
01:46It goes without saying with the Kansas City Royals.
01:49If the Royals are going to get back in it,
01:51and I feel like I've become a broken record,
01:53because for the last three weeks, all we've done is talk about the Royals getting back into it.
02:00But they can't, and they probably won't get back into it.
02:03But let me get myself a little bit of an out,
02:06because I know how you guys are on the text line.
02:08Today, you don't believe in them.
02:09And a week from now, though, in three games in a row,
02:11and you'll believe it, you'll be back.
02:12But that's what being a fan is.
02:14It's holding on hope.
02:15But you saw Shawshank Redemption,
02:17and they told us that hope can be a dangerous thing.
02:20Believing in the Royals is one of the most dangerous things you can do in Kansas City.
02:24It's more dangerous than standing outside Town Topic at 3 o'clock in the morning.
02:30He is 147th amongst qualifying batters.
02:36Now, we don't talk a whole lot about lineup construction on this show.
02:40I know some of you get real hot and bothered and up in arms about it.
02:44I'm not saying you're right or wrong.
02:45That's just not really this show's lane.
02:47They cannot continue to have Vinny Pasquantino and Salvador Perez hit third and fourth every single day
02:55and then be surprised that they get the same results every single day.
03:00He has not been good in those scenarios.
03:03He is a significant reason why their offense is stalled.
03:06He is a significant reason why this team finds themselves below 500.
03:11So that's one tweet that I was sent this week.
03:14The other tweet that I got, shout out to Rainey Gazzarelli.
03:17I always like his stats.
03:19He always has a way of just summarizing Royals' despair better than anybody on the internet.
03:24On the entire internet that Al Gore created, there is not a single person better at it than Rainey Gazzarelli.
03:30So his original tweet was back on April 18th, folks.
03:35And it said, for the 20th time in 23 seasons, the Royals have lost six in a row in the
03:42first 60 games of the season.
03:45Seven of the last 20 years, they have done that before they get to game 35.
03:50Well, Rob, did you know he updated it this weekend because it needed to be updated?
03:56Listen to this.
03:58Incredibly, this is the 13th time in the last 23 seasons that the Royals have had two losing streaks start
04:06before June 1.
04:08This is the 14th time, if you count the COVID season, they did it twice in their first 42 games.
04:1515 times, if you count 2012, they had one losing streak.
04:19It was a 12-game losing streak.
04:21The reason I'm pessimistic about the Royals, the reason that you are pessimistic about the Royals,
04:27is the Royals give us reason to.
04:29Your pessimism with the Royals did not appear out of thin air.
04:34We got concrete data and evidence to show you why we as a city don't believe in the Royals.
04:43So a couple of weeks ago, when I was taking arrows from people, and again, I get it.
04:48This is not me being critical of you, but I told you, the only way you were going to get
04:53me back on the Royals
04:55was them getting at and above 500.
04:57And boy, did they have their shot.
04:59I remember hearing myself say it.
05:02It's like a basketball game.
05:04We all have seen a basketball game when a team gets down 18 points, and then they make a run,
05:10and then they're down four.
05:12And Rob, what usually happens?
05:13You miss a three.
05:14It's a long layup.
05:16It's now a, it's a long rebound.
05:18It's a layup on the other half.
05:20You had a chance to be down one.
05:21Now you're down six, and all the wind is out of your sails.
05:25That's what happened to the Royals.
05:28Those two losses that they had back-to-back against the Cleveland Guardians when they were two games under 500
05:35once again derailed their season.
05:37And that will likely be the closest that they get to 500 all baseball season.
05:42The bar that we give the Royals is such a low one.
05:46Just be competitive.
05:47Get us the football season.
05:50They couldn't get us to the draft.
05:53Then they got you back into it.
05:55They got you excited.
05:56They were handing out free rice bowls, and it was phenomenal.
06:00And now look at them.
06:02I mean, just, I don't know what to do.
06:07You don't know what to do.
06:08We don't know what to do.
06:10We got to start thinking of summer bits.
06:12We got to start thinking of soccer segments.
06:15And I got to start learning more about the World Cup.
06:18You did this.
06:19Matt Cotraro, you did this.
06:21Salvador Perez, you did this.
06:23I don't know anything about soccer.
06:26But I need to.
06:28What else are we going to talk about?
06:31Coming up on the other side, we will get you an update from Dr. David Chow.
06:35He's actually going to be on the show later today.
06:37He is not as optimistic about watching Patrick Mahomes play golf and says,
06:42it doesn't mean what you think it means.
06:44We'll ask him about that.
06:46We'll also play for you what he had to say on social media here coming up in a bit.
06:49But, Rob, you know the rules.
06:51We talked about the Royals.
06:52Hit it.
07:04Even Rob is slumping.
07:06This team's got everyone down in Carrington.
07:08No one is.
07:09Even Rob is slumping.
07:11Name someone who's having a good time watching this baseball team.
07:14I'll show you a liar.
07:16Because of that, I'm going to go back to a year we all hated.
07:19One of the worst in Royals baseball history.
07:21Your 2006 Royals, who I believe were the losingest Royals team of all time.
07:27And their lineup on today's date in Royals history, which I'm betting this will be a fun one.
07:33Buddy Bell's team went 62-100, by the way, in case you were wondering.
07:36Just abysmal baseball from the jump.
07:39They also lost to the then Indians on this date.
07:43Here was your Royals lineup.
07:44Rob was like Vinny Pasquantino.
07:46We do the same bit every single day.
07:48And then it was time to do his part of the bit.
07:50He looked confused.
07:50He looked like he was about to drown.
07:52I know you guys saw the video.
07:53Rob's like, wait, what?
07:55Yeah, I know.
07:56Leading off in center field, Esteban Herman.
08:00This team's awful.
08:01I don't need to hear any more about this team.
08:03This team is terrible.
08:05Batting second, the second baseman, Mark Grudzelanek.
08:08They weren't even trying to field a competitive roster.
08:11That team was tanking.
08:12Batting third, the right fielder, Reggie Sanders.
08:16A waste of everybody's time and money.
08:18Batting fourth, the left fielder.
08:20It's not a snack.
08:21It's a meal.
08:23Brown.
08:24Can you read that one through four again?
08:26Because you know what?
08:26Now hearing this, maybe I should, maybe I need to soften up my commentary about the Royals.
08:32We're living in the golden era of Royals baseball.
08:35These were the teams they were trotting out there.
08:37They were charging us real American currency to go watch that team play baseball.
08:42Batting fifth, the first baseman, Doug Mankiewicz.
08:45This is one of the worst teams you've ever read.
08:48Batting sixth, the third baseman, Tony Graffanino.
08:53There's no pop in this lineup.
08:55There's no speed in this lineup.
08:57This is not a great defensive team.
09:01Batting glass was stealing money from the rest of Major League Baseball.
09:05He was a thief.
09:07Batting seventh, the former rookie of the year, shortstop, Unhill Barroa.
09:12All right, now we go.
09:13Now we got some star power.
09:15Batting eighth, the designated hitter, Justin Huber.
09:21I don't even know who he is.
09:23And batting ninth, the catcher, John Buck.
09:29By the way, the Royals lost on this date because they only got three and a third out of Renel
09:33V's
09:34Hernandez, who was the starter that day.
09:36He gave up five and three and a third.
09:38You'd be surprised to know Cliff Lee started for Cleveland and he mowed down that Royals lineup.
09:43Somebody on the text line makes a good point.
09:46This is when you used to go to Kauffman Stadium just to watch the other team.
09:50That's when you would go out there just for the Yankees, Cardinals, Red Sox, and maybe you got a good
09:57interleague matchup.
09:58That's when they started the dynamic pricing.
10:00Oh, you're only coming out here for the Sox?
10:02You're paying to come out here for the Sox.
10:05You would only go then if you got free tickets from work.
10:09Somebody would hit you up.
10:10Hey, you want to go to the Royals game?
10:10Is it free?
10:11Okay, y'all go out there.
10:12That's free stadium renovation.
10:14It wasn't even fun out there.
10:15It's terrible.
10:16It was awful.
10:18Awful, awful baseball.
10:20We appreciate that random lineup.
10:22Coming up on the other side, I want to play for you guys what Dr. David Chow had to say
10:27about watching Patrick Mahomes golf swing.
10:29And did you guys see that this weekend Mahomes had his big Vegas charity event for 15 and Mahomes gets
10:36a bunch of famous people to go out there.
10:38They play golf.
10:39Cam Jordan was in attendance.
10:42We'll talk about it.
10:43Keep it right here.
10:43It's the drive.
10:44We'll talk about it.
