00:00Thank you very much, Lucius. It's the G-Bag Nation here on 105 Through the Fan.
00:03Just had Chris Young on, brought to you by Medical City Healthcare and Lexus.
00:08Visit your local Dallas-Fort Worth Lexus dealership today.
00:12Yeah, CY updated us on a number of things.
00:16Corey Seager is going to go on the shelf. He'll be out another week.
00:19It's 10 days, and so it's retroactive. He's been out four days already.
00:24He said Seager went to the ground in the game last week.
00:28He did clarify that it was not the Justin Foscue play where Foscue came across second base
00:33to pursue a ball that was clearly Corey Seager.
00:37So that's good to know, and it's good to know that it's not a worse injury.
00:43Said the training staff and the team medical staff identified Josh Smith viral meningitis pretty good.
00:50That was pretty strong, although I think now you can just pretty much input symptoms into AI,
00:57and it can at least let you know, maybe go to the doctor right now, bro.
01:01Like these aren't things you want to just make an appointment for next Wednesday for.
01:05You want to get this thing locked down.
01:07So I guess that's the good news.
01:09And the other good news is now they know what to look for.
01:11I would be worried as a GM, if somebody has viral meningitis, the other players could get it.
01:16Right.
01:17You know, did we get this contained at patient zero?
01:20Where did Josh get it?
01:21You know?
01:22Yeah.
01:22Is the clubhouse a super spreader?
01:24How contagious is this?
01:25Yeah, seriously, dude.
01:26Damn viral meningitis.
01:28That's a bummer, man.
01:29The 214 says, though, we have a team 228 average.
01:33Hopefully CY knows it's more than just a timely hit.
01:36You asked to follow up on that.
01:38You know, if I'm CY, I mean, and we know he's very frustrated at the end of these games,
01:43but three times in the last week, last Monday in the game of Aldi had to miss,
01:47and then Friday and Saturday, it's like the offense is giving you jack squat.
01:51Yeah, it is.
01:52It's one of those things where there are nights where you just see them absolutely have an inability to hit
01:57the baseball,
01:57but then there are others, which I think is when he probably looks at it and says,
02:01guys, I mean, I think they're 0 for 10 plus with runners in scoring position, right?
02:06So it's like you've got the foot traffic.
02:08You're clearly getting on base.
02:09We just can't find a way to bring runners across home.
02:13Is it on base enough, though, to the texture's point?
02:15No, I mean, 228.
02:16I think, obviously, you've got the sample size right now that the offense is not good enough,
02:20and this current group probably is not what you need moving forward.
02:24I just think that he is at a spot where, like, what are the answers?
02:27What are the solutions?
02:28And he even said it himself.
02:29They're pretty thin right now at AAA, so I don't know that there's a ton of options that you can
02:33to call up.
02:34And when it comes to making a trade, do you have the support of ownership to then be able to
02:38maybe swing
02:39for the financial priority that it would take to go and get it bad right now?
02:43I don't know.
02:43Plus, you've also got to have something that other teams would want.
02:46So it's a delicate balance that I don't know that they have the answer for currently, which sucks.
02:50No, no.
02:51And as a leader, as a GM, you can't expect him to come out and say,
02:55these guys can't hit.
02:57I'm going to get better hitters.
02:59Now is the time of the year where you show confidence in your guys,
03:02and he's been consistent, but every time we get to July, he does something.
03:06He knows.
03:07He's not an idiot.
03:08He just has to say things publicly and back his guys.
03:12And I'll tell you another thing that he's not going to talk about publicly,
03:14but that would be very frustrating for me privately,
03:17is you lost some big contracts off this team.
03:22$70 million of payroll,
03:24and ownership didn't allow you to replace those guys.
03:28So you had to make trades for guys that are pre-free agency.
03:33And there's just so few of those dudes that can help you win.
03:37They need two great hitters.
03:39Guess what great hitters cost in today's game?
03:42About $35 million a year.
03:44So if you take away $70 million,
03:46and as the fan base, you're like,
03:48we need better hitters.
03:49We need catalyst guys that can hit for power in the middle of the lineup,
03:52at the top of the order.
03:53Or, well, yeah, CY definitely agrees.
03:57And I would be very frustrated.
03:59I don't think it would be enough that I would think about leaving the Texas
04:03Rangers because I'm from here.
04:05We won a World Series.
04:06I have my dream job as GM or president of baseball operations for the Texas
04:10Rangers.
04:11But as a competitive person,
04:13if winning is my top priority,
04:14and I see the ownership scale back 70 mil and say,
04:18make up for it in the minor leagues,
04:20develop some hitters,
04:22I'd be looking at it like,
04:23dang, it's going to be a while.
04:25Because to Wolchuk's point,
04:27I was wondering about that.
04:28Are there guys in AAA that could theoretically help you?
04:31They're crushing it in high A.
04:33Hickory is a wonderful spot to be a Rangers prospect right now.
04:37But, I mean, what is that?
04:39Two years away?
04:39Three years away?
04:40Probably, yeah.
04:41I mean, maybe they can fast-track a couple of those guys,
04:43and they can get up to AA this year,
04:45but you're probably looking at AAA next year.
04:46So I think probably at the earliest two years.
04:49Which, it stinks.
04:50And I do think there is a world where,
04:52if this continues in the trend,
04:54and if CY does not feel like he does have the support of Ray Davis and company,
04:58and if indeed, behind the scenes,
05:00he wanted to do more and was not able to do more,
05:03then there could be a separation.
05:05You know, maybe the two just don't see eye to eye,
05:06and it could be best for both parties to move on.
05:09I don't want to see that happen.
05:10Because I believe in CY,
05:11and I do think that, you know,
05:13I get when it comes to the offense and the hitters.
05:15Obviously, Jock Peterson was not a good signing.
05:17I think you can look at some of the trades if you want to,
05:20if you want to dig in there.
05:21I don't think they've given away anybody
05:22that's been absolutely tremendous to this point yet.
05:25Liam Hendricks is a guy that I think is playing pretty well right now.
05:29But, you know, all in all, he's trying.
05:31He made some big changes this offseason,
05:33moving away from some key players in Garcia and Heim.
05:36But right now, you're just not seeing the benefits right now,
05:38the return on those investments.
05:39Yeah, like, seriously moves that he shouldn't have done.
05:44I think it's one in, like, a half-decade.
05:47Jock Peterson.
05:48I'd like to spend that $20 million somewhere else right now.
05:51100%.
05:51Yeah, and I wonder how much, you know,
05:53Ray Davis and ownership is holding that against him.
05:55You know, where it's like, man, I gave you a nice check,
06:00and you basically just flushed it.
06:02Yeah.
06:03And how much better would this all be if just Langford was himself,
06:06if he was healthy and just meeting some level of expectations,
06:09and then Corey Seager was being himself?
06:11Yeah.
06:12How much different would everything be if those two guys,
06:14those are your two best hitters.
06:16Those are the two guys that this whole lineup is built around,
06:19and they've given you nothing.
06:21Yeah, that'd be my message for ownership right now if I'm CY.
06:24I'm like, we got Seager and Wyatt.
06:25They're going to go off in the second half.
06:27Let me get permission to trade a Walcott,
06:31to trade some of these guys down in Hickory
06:33that other teams would be interested in adding.
06:36And we might have to blow out our farm system again.
06:40But, damn it, we got Evaldi.
06:43We got Leiter and McKenzie Gore now.
06:46And DeGrom, other than the four-home run disaster that was Saturday,
06:50it's been a really good year.
06:52Like, when you have a starting staff this good,
06:55and a bullpen who the ERA is still tops in the big leagues,
06:58even after a couple of real disasters over the last week or so,
07:03let's go be buyers.
07:04Okay, let's jump into Blogging the Boys Bold Predictions.
07:07Do you have some breaking news or something, Chief?
07:08Well, it's not breaking news, but I did find it interesting.
07:11I don't know if you guys saw the Evan Grant tweet from over the weekend
07:16where he was talking about the idea,
07:18because he was, like, taking questions on Twitter.
07:20And Rangers fans are kind of at peak frustration right now.
07:24Oh, yeah, absolutely.
07:24Like, the grace period post-championship has kind of, you know,
07:29ran its course.
07:30I mean, I vented on Jared Sandler a couple of weeks ago.
07:33Yeah.
07:33You know, I think I relate to that.
07:36Well, Evan Grant was responding to somebody on Twitter.
07:39He says,
07:40I have full confidence that there will be no in-between this year.
07:44They will either be real buyers or bulk sellers.
07:47He just says,
07:48Right now it's just way too early to know,
07:51so he thinks it's pointless to kind of, like,
07:53ponder what it's going to be.
07:54But he says,
07:55One way or another,
07:56they're either going to be big-time buyers,
07:58which is encouraging.
07:59Yes.
08:00If Evan Grant is hearing from somebody,
08:01like, yeah, no,
08:02they will be willing to go make a big move for a bat or two.
08:05Or if things just start to bottom out on you,
08:08they'll just fire sell this thing.
08:10Okay, and I like that.
08:12I think it's time.
08:13Yes.
08:13To bleep or get off the pot, I think is.
08:16Yeah, that's 100% what it is.
08:17Or get out of the bed.
08:18Yeah, that's the problem, though, right?
08:20Like, you're going to be within the AL West race the entire season.
08:24So it's like,
08:24I think this team's just going to be hovering around 500.
08:26I think that's what they are.
08:27But the thing is,
08:28hovering around 500 is going to probably keep you within a game or two of the division.
08:31And that would be buyers.
08:33Right.
08:33You can't sell in that situation.
08:35On top of that,
08:36you couldn't sell these players for great prospects.
08:39They're too old.
08:40I wonder about some of your front-line pitching.
08:43Oh, yeah.
08:44Yeah, I think Evaldi.
08:45Now, DeGrom's got the no trade,
08:47so he would have to sign off on some of this stuff.
08:49And so, like, the Cubs are a team that is right now saying,
08:51okay, we want to be in the buyer's market
08:53for a starting pitcher.
08:54And if you are a seller,
08:56you look at what Chicago might have to offer.
08:58Would DeGrom waive a no trade clause to go to Chicago?
09:01Evo, I don't think they want to move.
09:03I think Evo brings a lot from a leadership standpoint,
09:05from a lot of your younger arms.
09:06But maybe.
09:07You know, maybe if you are a seller,
09:09I think that's probably where you get the most return.
09:11Unless somebody,
09:12I mean, right now you're selling low on a Wyatt Langford.
09:14Right.
09:15Yeah.
09:15And Evan Carter, I think,
09:16has had as defensively when it comes to the outfield.
09:19He's been fantastic.
09:20But I don't know if they want to make any of those moves,
09:22but I think the pitching would be an interesting conversation
09:24if you were to be a seller.
09:26I couldn't imagine being that age and saying,
09:28yep, I'm signing up for three to five years of developing.
09:31Let's trade this for prospects
09:33and see where we can be in 2031.
09:36As an 80-year-old owner, forget about that.
09:38We don't want to do that, Ray.
09:39No.
09:39Let's have fun.
09:41But maybe his real enjoyment in life
09:44is growing investments and playing the long game,
09:47and that's how he wants to wrap things up for his legacy.
09:51But shoot, if you're not willing to go forward,
09:53just sell the team, please.
09:54I think this team could be great.
09:59It's not that everything is so bad
10:02that you better blow this thing up
10:04because you've got no chance in H-E double hockey sticks.
10:06You add two bats to this thing,
10:08and it's one of the best teams in baseball.
