00:00Text line 913-586-7965.
00:04CDOT, don't be scared.
00:05Call for Q to be fired.
00:07I always wonder when you guys say this.
00:10What do you think happens if I say that?
00:14Like if I'm just like, hey, you know what?
00:15I think it's time for the Royals to get a new manager.
00:18You think like John Sherman calls me and just says,
00:21you better not say that.
00:22I always, that always confuses me when people are like,
00:26oh, you don't ask the tough questions because you're scared.
00:29What do you think the consequences?
00:31What's the backlash?
00:33What am I afraid of?
00:35Rob, the only Royals person that comes on the show is Denny.
00:38Who else do we have some great relationship with?
00:41We've never had the owner or the manager on the show.
00:44I don't know those people.
00:46I don't think they should fire the manager.
00:49I'm probably honestly more on the side of them firing the general manager
00:52than I'm on the side of them firing the manager.
00:55Now I understand the GM will probably fire him too,
00:57but I'm more on the side of, hey, they tried Dayton 2.0.
01:01It worked for a little bit.
01:03It's not working anymore.
01:04Let's just start over.
01:05The Royals tried to keep a measure of continuity.
01:07And I understand and tap into 14 and 15.
01:11And they promoted Dayton's right-hand man.
01:14I'm much more on the side of, just start over.
01:19You've got an owner that's shown he's willing to spend a little bit of money.
01:22You've got one of the superstars of the game.
01:24You've got some good foundational building pieces.
01:27The Royals job would be a sought-after job.
01:31I don't want to paint it like it's one of the better jobs in Major League Baseball.
01:34But, I mean, there's only 30 of them.
01:36I mean, some of those jobs, I mean, the Yankees general manager hasn't come in for 20 years.
01:40So if you've got a chance to be a Major League Baseball GM, you obviously take that shot.
01:45You take that opportunity.
01:47I'm much more on the side of this is J.J.'s fault than it is Matt Cotraro's fault.
01:51If I'm trying to assess blame and who do I think is more guilty for it, I think it's on
01:57J.J.
01:57I think it's on the way that they built the roster.
01:59I think it is on the Royals as an organization made a very bad assumption on the core of their
02:08team,
02:08on the foundation of their team, and didn't show a willingness to try to add to it.
02:13And for the most part, they've basically plucked away all of the immediate talent you think can help this team
02:20at the AA and AAA level.
02:22Carter Jensen is here.
02:23Jack Caglione is here.
02:24There are no reinforcements coming, not from inside the organization.
02:28They got to go outside the organization to find that.
02:31I do giggle at the, just say it.
02:33What's going to happen?
02:34Do you think the, I mean, for those watching on YouTube, we're up against windows.
02:37You think someone's going to bust through the windows and rip the microphone away from you?
02:40How dare you say that?
02:41I mean, the same way we talked about how if the Chiefs season goes sideways, Brett Veach's seat gets hot.
02:46That's the heat that I think J.J.
02:48Pocollo is experiencing right now.
02:50I'm not saying he should or shouldn't get fired.
02:52There's, you know, six months of baseball left or a little under that left.
02:57But last year, winning season, but was a step back from the playoffs.
03:02Playoffs, step back.
03:03If you take another step back, yeah, you should feel some heat under your seat.
03:07And if John Sherman decides at the end of the year, hey, J.J., you built a loser after being
03:11told it was a winner.
03:12I'm moving on.
03:13That wouldn't be a problem to me.
03:15I don't think he should do it as of now.
03:17But I think J.J.
03:18Pocollo, when he gets to work every day, sits down and feels like the little seat warmer at a level
03:22one when he gets in and out of the Coffman Stadium.
03:24Someone on the text line says, CDOT, to what you're saying, what about Kevin Kiesman?
03:29He said something the Chiefs didn't like and got fired.
03:31So don't act like a station can't be affected by who or what they cover.
03:35I think you can see a great difference in what happened with Kevin Kiesman back in the day and suggesting
03:40that the manager should be fired.
03:43There seem like very wild different things.
03:45I have to kind of know a little bit more behind the scenes what happened in that situation.
03:49That's not my situation to speak on.
03:51I don't work over there.
03:52But I just I think you guys are smart enough to know the difference in the two and what Kevin
03:57did and suggesting that the organization should make a change in who their manager is.
04:02I would say that is talking about the team that is discussing the team, not going outside of the lines.
04:08I just would I just would I would I just think they're very different.
04:13Maybe that's the the way that I would describe it.
04:15All right.
04:16Let's talk about Patrick Mahomes.
04:17I would say right now the top two stories in the National Football League today are the return of Patrick
04:23Mahomes and also A.J. Brown.
04:25We are heading toward that June 1st date.
04:28So on June 1st, the Eagles save a substantial amount of money if they want to move on from A
04:34.J. Brown.
04:35I think a large portion of us think that they are going to move away from A.J. Brown and
04:39that he is eventually going to be traded to somebody.
04:42I'm guessing the New England Patriots.
04:44So let's talk about the Kansas City portion of this and then we'll talk about A.J. Brown.
04:49Here is Patrick Mahomes clarifying what we all know.
04:52What is the goal, Patrick?
04:54Yeah, I mean, that's always going to be the goal.
04:56Like, I don't want to miss games.
04:57I mean, as a competitor, as a football player, I want to be there.
05:00I know, like I said, I know it's still a long ways away.
05:02You know, I can't predict the future.
05:04And so all I can do is be great today and then continue to be great tomorrow.
05:07But I've gotten to where I've gotten to because of that mindset and the goal at the end, the very
05:12far end, is to be ready and to be able to go out there and play with the guys week
05:16one at Arrowhead.
05:17But I've got to take it day by day.
05:19So that is Patrick Mahomes.
05:20I mean, everything that they have done, everything that they have discussed, just we know what the goal is.
05:27We know what the plan is.
05:28You would not have Mahomes participating in OTAs in the fashion in which he is if you were not actively
05:34trying to prepare him for the season.
05:36Now, one thing I do think is interesting to some degree is he participated in the seven on seven drills
05:43today, did not participate in the 11 on 11 drills.
05:47Now, I understand the purpose of trying to get Justin Fields ready.
05:51I think the Chiefs should actively be trying to get Justin Fields ready in case a setback happens, in case
05:57something goes wrong.
05:58But just something to note, Mahomes participated in the seven on seven drills today.
06:03He did not participate in the 11 on 11 drills.
06:07Not that it really matters.
06:08It's May 28th.
06:09They don't play football for a very, very long time.
06:12Here is Patrick Mahomes talking about the progress in his rehab as he's trying to hit certain checkpoints.
06:18I mean, it's kind of we'll see.
06:19Like, you kind of have, like, these, like, week to two week kind of checkpoints where I got to get
06:23to.
06:23So I think the biggest thing for me now is kind of getting to the running and cutting.
06:27And I've started that stuff.
06:29But until I'm able to protect myself and go out there and be there, they're going to keep me safe
06:35and not let me have the opportunity as much as I want to be out there.
06:38But I think if I can continue to do this stuff the right way, that's the hope for me, at
06:42least.
06:42And so all I can do is execute this next checkpoint of getting that cutting, being able to protect myself,
06:47prove to Julie and Rick and those guys and Dr. Cooper that I can protect myself.
06:52Then they'll let me go out there and be a part of the team drills.
06:55And then that'll progress into games.
06:57We talked about this yesterday to close out the show.
07:00I think you asked me, what percentage do I need to see Mahomes at?
07:04I'm not really trying to gauge this based on a percentage because a percentage is just a hypothetical number that
07:10all of us can throw out.
07:12I have no clue where he is.
07:1480 percent, 85 percent, 90 percent.
07:17What's this magical number that he needs to be at?
07:19It just seems like a poppycock conversation.
07:22Just seems like a lot of nothing.
07:23But what I do think is important, what he just said, I have to show Julie, I have to show
07:30Rick that I can defend myself.
07:33Remember, Rob, last week we had on Aaron Borgman, who used to work the sidelines, who used to be a
07:39personal trainer in the NFL.
07:41What did he say that he needs to see?
07:43What is a checkpoint that you need to make?
07:45Can you protect yourself?
07:48The goal of this cannot be Patrick needs to be 100 percent.
07:51If that's the goal, let's just stop this conversation about him participating in week one.
07:55He will not participate in week one if that's the barrier of injury.
08:00But can he protect himself?
08:03Can he move around?
08:04Is there risk for further injury?
08:07Does he feel comfortable on the leg?
08:09Those are all questions that I think need to be asked and answered before Pat gets back on the field.
08:15Now, this, I thought, was the most interesting quote of the entire day of the entire press conference.
08:23Listen to this.
08:24I told Coach Reed, I think it's helping me a little bit because I can't move around.
08:28So it's kind of settling my feet down.
08:30It's kind of like when I hurt my ankles sometimes.
08:32It's like I can't scramble and I can't do these things.
08:36So it makes me sit in the pocket and go through the reads and do that stuff.
08:38So I'm going to try to use it to my advantage, you know, like it's it's something I can get
08:42better at is progression through the entire concept and stuff like that.
08:45And I don't have the ability to scramble and do that stuff right now.
08:48And so it should help me in those those things that hopefully whenever I get that ability back, I still
08:53will go through the progressions at a higher rate than I've done in the past.
08:57You believe that?
08:58I understand in theory what he is saying.
09:02I have to stay in the pocket.
09:04I can't run.
09:05I can't scramble up.
09:06But also say there's no pass rush right now.
09:09There's there's no danger right now.
09:10So I don't know how real that is or unreal that it is.
09:15It I would say that this is maybe the easiest portion of the offseason again for all of those reasons.
09:20And you're not even in pads.
09:21You're in t-shirts.
09:22You're in shorts.
09:23No one can hit you.
09:24You're going through the motions.
09:25So it's a little bit different.
09:27Do you think that this injury can force him to be more of a pocket passer type?
09:33Because I would argue if that's what you are turning Patrick Mahomes into, you are taking away some of the
09:39things that make him incredibly special.
09:41And I'm also going to guess instincts eventually will kick in.
09:46Once you get out there, once you start playing those habits that you have been building over years are going
09:52to override the habits that you have been building over the last three to five months.
09:58So another thing for me with Patrick is if you can't be running around like Mrs.
10:03Pac-Man and making guys miss and doing those things, hey, maybe you shouldn't be out here because that's part
10:09of what makes you so incredibly unique and part of what makes you incredibly special.
10:14For example, the play that he made, the first to me, wow, it Mahomes throw, the one to Chris Conley.
10:22Can you still physically do that?
10:24Can he still keep his balance in that way?
10:26Can he still set his feet in that way and make that throw?
10:30I just think that's a part of who he is.
10:32Again, that's what makes him so special.
10:34That's what makes him the archetype for this generation of the kind of quarterback you were looking for.
10:40So all of this sounds great, man.
10:42This injury is going to make me stay in the pocket and go through my reads and my progression.
10:46I don't think that's what Patrick Mahomes is going to play like not when the bullets are alive.
10:51So I understand your point, but I think it could make him better as long as you don't take it
10:57away from him.
10:58Let's say his pocket passing.
10:59I will use a Madden analogy.
11:02Let's say his pocket passing right now on the Madden drop down menu is an 85.
11:06It's very good.
11:08If it becomes an 88, 89 because of this injury, then he could be a better quarterback.
11:13But no one I don't is advocating for him to stop being the run around and make plays guy.
11:18But if he doesn't have to run around and make plays every time, that wouldn't be the worst thing in
11:23the world.
11:23I can see a scenario where, hey, this skill that I have that I'm good at gets better
11:28while simultaneously I still have the run around and make plays skill, his overall quarterbacking could get better.
11:35But I do think that's one of the fears is if Patrick Mahomes is three-step drop, five-step drop,
11:40regular Peyton Manning type,
11:42I don't know he's Patrick Mahomes anymore.
11:44But if he's Patrick Mahomes plus an enhanced ability in the pocket, then I think the NFL should watch out.
11:50Text line 913-586-7965.
11:52CDOT, I believe him 100% that and his accuracy.
11:56Those are two things he can work on right now.
11:58I feel at least when it comes to this accuracy topic, I'm probably in the minority as opposed to what
12:04I think most people think.
12:06I think a lot of the Mahomes accuracy conversation is who he's throwing to.
12:10We're basing his poor accuracy based on his chemistry with Xavier Worthy.
12:15Who else is he supposed to be having these deep down the field throws to?
12:21Who else on their roster is doing that?
12:24Who else is supposed to be that?
12:27We didn't really seem to have these conversations when he had an elite downfield receiver.
12:32They haven't given him one.
12:33So it to me seems, I wouldn't say ironic.
12:36I don't know what the correct term would be is.
12:38But there appears to be a very clear difference of when we started to notice that Mahomes accuracy was an
12:45issue was when you gave them guys that I don't think are really good down the field.
12:49I've said this from day one from Xavier Worthy.
12:52What they told us he was going to be and what they sold us and the hype and excitement.
12:57You remember from day one when Buffalo made that trade with Kansas City, the sentiment in Kansas City was, I
13:03can't believe they did that.
13:04You gave Mahomes this downfield deep ball threat.
13:08Is that what Xavier Worthy's been in his time in their career?
13:10And do we think that's because his quarterback is Patrick Mahomes?
13:13So I think the accuracy thing is just a little bit oversold with Patrick Mahomes.
13:17I'm not telling you he's great at it, but something tells me if he had better down the field options,
13:22I think you would see a noticeable improvement in the accuracy downfield because you would have guys that can go
13:27get it.
13:28What was the Aaron Ladd quote?
13:30The blanket Tyree's down there somewhere that they don't have that anymore.
13:34I mean, some of the throws Mahomes were making is not like, oh, man, he threaded between three guys 60
13:39yards downfield.
13:40It was Tyree Kill is comically open that even when the offense had, you know, the one year of productive
13:47MVS.
13:48He was downfield making plays.
13:50They just they don't have a downfield weapon.
13:52And before you text in spare me Tyquan Thornton, I don't view him as a downfield weapon with his 19
13:57catches last season.
13:58I haven't had that guy Thornton goes to my point.
14:00He used to be throwing these passes to Sammy Watkins used to be throwing these passes to Tyree Kill.
14:04Now he's throwing it to Tyquan Thornton.
14:07That's the point I'm saying about accuracy and down the field options.
14:11Who are the quarterbacks that you think are really accurate?
14:14Who are they throwing the ball to?
14:17Sam Darnold's accuracy seemed to get a whole lot better when he had Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and J.S.
14:23sitting to be throwing the ball downfield to shockingly.
14:26That works.
14:26It works sometimes whenever that's how it is.
14:30Somebody on the text line says Worthy is faster than Hill should be better.
14:33I don't know if Worthy is faster than Tyree Kill.
14:37And I would say all the other things that make you a good enough wide receiver is not close between
14:41the two.
14:42Tyree Kill is a much better route runner.
14:44He is a much more consistent.
14:46I also think with Tyree Kill, I don't think that Tyree Kill gets enough conversation about his ability to high
14:54point the ball and jump up and go get it.
14:57Which have you ever seen?
14:59Xavier Worthy has bad football IQ and doesn't know where the sideline is for the most part.
15:04So, yeah, I just I think a lot of the Mahomes accuracy issues just stem from who you are throwing
15:10the ball to.
15:11I want to play this.
15:12Someone on the text line said, see that will you play what he had to say about E.B.?
15:16I'm telling you, there's two people that is going to have the text line all riled up this year.
15:21Chad O'Shea and E.B.
15:23You can already see the foundation cooking.
15:26Our guy, Mac, he was out at the OTAs earlier today, and he was like zoomed in on Chad O'Shea.
15:31Like, man, watch this guy work.
15:33See the passion.
15:34He's helping them with the drill.
15:36Oh, my goodness.
15:37That's red meat to you guys.
15:39Here's Patrick Mahomes on E.B.
15:41There's a standard that you have to practice with and you have to play with, and he's going to hold
15:44you to that standard no matter who you are.
15:46From the first guy to the 90th guy right now, he's going to hold you to that standard, and I
15:49think that's something that it's hard to replicate.
15:53I think that's the best way to say it, and he has brought in a lot of concepts and a
15:56lot of things that I've really liked that we've added in now.
15:58And so I think it's good to kind of have him back in the building, having that energy back.
16:03A lot of these guys haven't had an E.B., and so they understand it.
16:08But honestly, I think it's been cool.
16:09They're really receptive of it, and even though it's hard, I mean, there's hard days.
16:14They know why we're doing it.
16:16I think it's kind of you can see the guys, and they want to be great, and they want to
16:19be better than we were last year.
16:20And so we've had a good start to these OTAs, and we just got to keep pushing through.
16:24I'm telling you, there's some things football fans love.
16:28Football fans love it.
16:30You've been out of training camp.
16:31Whenever the coaches start yelling at the players, the fans might not even know why they're yelling at the player.
16:38Just gets them going, you know?
16:39Just gets them excited.
16:41Whenever a coach is taking a guy off to the side and he's just ripping them, they go crazy at
16:47St. Joe for those kind of plays.
16:49Hey, you've got two of those guys.
16:50E.B. back.
16:51I'm sure you're going to hear him.
16:53He's going to have that whistle.
16:54He's going to be yelling at guys, challenging guys, holding guys accountable.
17:00Oh, man.
17:00We love all of those things.
17:01We'll talk about Chad O'Shea and the wide receiver room coming up at the top of the hour.
17:06Rob, I spent a lot of time today looking up Chiefs rookie wide receivers and Jalen Royal.
17:12So I'm excited to tell you all of my findings.
17:14We'll do that coming up in about 20 minutes or so.
17:18So I told you guys that is thing number one.
17:21Thing number one is Patrick Mahomes.
17:24Thing number two right now in the league is A.J. Brown.
17:27Now I know he's going to the Patriots.
17:30Rob knows he's going to the Patriots.
17:32You know, he's going to the Patriots.
17:34Somehow they're still trying to figure it out.
17:37I just don't know that it's going to be like snap your fingers and the deal is done because
17:41the two sides are where they have been, which is the Eagles wanting a first round pick in
17:452027 and Patriots, the most likely destination.
17:48We'll see if someone else rises, but Patriots, the most likely destination, not being willing to
17:54give up a first round pick as of right now, that means they're not particularly close.
17:58And yeah, there's a chance this could drag on for the foreseeable future.
18:02Do you know what this feels like?
18:04You remember when Aaron Rodgers was going to go to the Jets and you remember how long it took
18:11and we all were just thinking, bro, can you just get this over with already?
18:15Everybody knows what team he's going to.
18:17Can you go ahead and do it?
18:20Now, I understand the Patriots position.
18:24I wouldn't give up a first if you don't have to give up a first, especially not in next
18:29year's draft class, which everybody tells me this magical draft class.
18:33I mean, I wouldn't be excited about it, but I would ask the Patriots.
18:38I'd also ask the Eagles.
18:39What other choices do you have?
18:41Is there a market right now for AJ Brown or has the rest of the league just conceded to
18:47and he's going to play for the New England Patriots?
18:49What was the last time that AJ Brown was linked to any other team in the National Football
18:55League?
18:56Is there another team, another story that I'm missing?
18:59If you guys have seen it, certainly let me know.
19:01913-586-7965.
19:03I try to keep up on these things.
19:05Is there another team that seems interested in acquiring AJ Brown, which I mean, he's a
19:09phenomenal player.
19:10You should be, but a large majority of those teams that you think would be interested have
19:15already addressed and answered that or made a trade.
19:19Buffalo would have made a lot of sense.
19:20They made a trade to go get DJ Moore.
19:23Do you think Kansas City's interested in going to get AJ Brown?
19:26I mean, they haven't been interested really at any point this season to go get themselves
19:30a wide receiver.
19:31Really?
19:32The only other team that would make a lot of sense to me to go get AJ Brown will be
19:36the
19:37commanders.
19:37But are the Eagles trading him to a team in their division?
19:40I'm going to guess.
19:40Yes, the answer is probably no for a 28 year old.
19:43I think he's still a top 10 player in his position.
19:46Ultimately, this gets done.
19:48I think between New England and Philadelphia, but this is just one of those things that you
19:52got to go through when you're trying to get a trade for a superstar like player.
19:56I mean, in all honesty, no one should trade for AJ Brown.
20:00If the cost is a first round pick, if I have to absorb that contract and then I have to
20:05give
20:05him an extension to kind of spread out the money, it's not an extension of we believe in
20:09you, it's a spreading the money.
20:11Yeah, I'm not giving up a future first either.
20:13And AJ Brown's a good player.
20:15I'm not giving up a first for AJ Brown.
20:17So if the hang up right now is the Eagles are saying after June 1st, once we get cap
20:21relief from having him on our roster, it's a 2027 first and he's all yours, New England.
20:26Everyone in the league should be saying, yeah, no, we're good.
20:28No, no first round pick.
20:30You're screwed by carrying him on the roster, not us.
20:33So I, I think right now what's happening is just negotiations.
20:37The Eagles are saying we want to first and everyone else is saying no.
20:40And everyone else should say no.
20:42AJ Brown is not worth a first round pick on June 2nd or June 3rd.
20:45He just isn't.
20:46So I think the hang up is the Eagles have a pie in the sky price and the Patriots aren't
20:51willing to pay it.
20:52But I have a hunch.
20:53What wins the first week of June next week, sometime next week, the breaking news sounder
20:57goes and the Patriots have AJ Brown for what I don't know, but I don't think a first round
21:01pick is good value for him.
21:03I also think it's just very obvious that no other team in the league was willing to trade
21:07a first round pick for AJ Brown, because if they were, you would have already traded them.
21:12If AJ Brown was worth the first round pick, the Eagles would have had a first round pick
21:15in the 2026 NFL draft.
21:17This was not some master manipulation to keep them on June 1st and then get a first round
21:24pick in the far more valuable draft.
21:27They will get a decent draft pick.
21:29I'm assuming they'll end up getting a two and a four or five.
21:33That seems more than fair to me.
21:35The Patriots will then reach an extension.
21:37The Patriots will then have, I would say a pretty decent wide receiver room after they
21:42made that trade.
21:42I would say be good.
21:43They have a good Romeo doves and AJ Brown.
21:47That's a, that's a good room for sure.
21:48I mean, if you're telling me that their room is, is Romeo Dobbs, uh, Kashawn booty and
21:53Mac Hollins and AJ Brown.
21:55I mean, that's a legitimate one through four.
21:57I'm not mad at that.
21:58If that's your wide receiver room, if you were them, you still got Hunter Henry.
22:01You got a couple of different options at a running back.
22:05We know the defense should be good.
22:06I'm that, that Patriots offense.
22:08You add a little bit more firepower.
22:10If Drake may can keep developing and be better in the post season than he was last year.
22:14No reason for new England, not to feel like they're a contender and that they can make
22:18a deep run again in the playoffs.
22:20But a lot of it's predicated on this trade going through and ultimately it is going to
22:24happen.
22:25The Eagles spent a first round pick on a wide receiver because they know that AJ Brown is
22:29not going to be there.
22:30The Patriots didn't make a whole lot of other moves at wide receiver because they also know
22:35that AJ Brown is going to be there.
22:38The relationship with Rabel, it just makes way too much sense for that to be the case.
