17 May - National Evening Forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk
Transcript
00:00Hello, you'll need your umbrellas at the ready as we head into the new week. It's staying
00:05changeable but there are signs of it warming up as we head towards the bank holiday weekend.
00:10So low pressure is still in charge. We've got an occlusion clearing its way through
00:13this evening and overnight. Another area of low pressure bringing perhaps some welcome
00:18rainfall through Monday evening and into Tuesday. Stay is rather unsettled but as we head through
00:24into the latter half of the week, higher pressure starts building in and that's going to be drawing
00:30up some southerly winds as well. So temperatures are going to be climbing as we head through the
00:36week. But before all of that, we have got showers in the mix as we head through this evening,
00:42pushing their way eastwards. Longest bells of rain arriving across Northern Ireland into
00:47Northwestern England, into Wales and the Southwest England as we start Monday morning. Some of that
00:52rain could be heavy at times. Clearest and driest conditions across the southeast of England
00:57and across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Scotland, that's where we could see temperatures fall away.
01:02A touch of frost is possible, perhaps even with some mist and fog. But underneath the cloud and
01:08rain, temperatures will be holding up. So quite a fresh start out there, especially across the far
01:14southeast of England into Scotland and Northern Ireland. This band of showery rain could have some
01:20elements of thunder that will start breaking up as we head into Monday afternoon and then more widely
01:25showers breaking out, especially across northern parts of England and into Scotland. Not everywhere
01:31we'll see those showers though and there will be some sunny spells in between, turning drier though
01:36across Northern Ireland with more hazy sunshine building in ahead of this next area of low pressure
01:42and the winds will be picking up across the southwest too. So here temperatures across Northern Ireland
01:48and up to around 13 or 14 degrees, a bit more in the way of cloud towards the southeast, temperatures
01:53at 15 or 16 degrees. As we go through Monday evening, those showers persisting. They'll push
02:00their way further eastwards and then soon replaced by wet and windy weather as we go overnight and
02:07through Tuesday. But like I said, perhaps some welcome rainfall, especially for farmers and gardeners.
02:12The rain will turn heavy over the hills, especially across the southeast of Northern Ireland into
02:17Wales and the moors of the south and west. But with a lot of cloud around, with the strength of
02:24those
02:24south and southwesterly winds, temperatures will be holding up. So a much milder start to Tuesday
02:30morning. But it's a wet and damp start, so you'll need your raincoat at the ready for that commute. That
02:37band
02:38of rain will continue to push its way north and eastward. So it will turn drier as we head through
02:43the afternoon across much of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Most persistent rain persisting
02:48across the far north of Scotland. But following behind, it will be another day of sunny spells and
02:54scattered showers. They will be moving through swiftly on that brisk southerly and southwesterly winds.
03:01That's also helping lift those temperatures up. So it is going to be a milder or warmer picture out
03:07there and the sun is strong for this time of the year. Still feeling cool across the far east of
03:13Scotland though. Temperatures suppressed here underneath the cloud and rain. Then as we head
03:19through into Wednesday, temperatures are still a little bit on the climb. There will be some showers
03:24in the mix, but it's Thursday and Friday where we start to see those temperatures rising 24, possibly 25,
03:3026 degrees as we head towards the bank holiday weekend. But for more details on all of that,

03:42Bye bye.
