16 November - National Evening Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good evening.
00:02A very cold night to come tonight and it's likely by the morning we'll see scenes similar
00:07to the one behind me.
00:08A widespread frost expected, particularly across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern
00:13parts of England, but even elsewhere across England and Wales, a patchy frost.
00:17That's away from the far southeast though, a little bit more cloud here and some brisk
00:21northerly winds.
00:22At times these winds will sweep in some showers across any North Sea coasts and they could
00:27turn a little wintry, particularly across any high ground.
00:31It's mainly in Scotland though, so for most a dry and clear night but very cold by the
00:36time we reach the morning.
00:37Most towns and cities in the mid to low single figures across England and Wales but just touching
00:42below freezing across parts of Scotland.
00:46So a cold start to the day, once again quite a crisp morning with some frost in places but
00:51it'll brighten up nicely through the course of the day, lots of sunshine around by the
00:55afternoon.
00:57Still mostly dry though, once again plenty of showers just clipping North Sea coasts, still
01:01turning a little bit wintry so some sleet and snow expected across hills, mainly in Scotland
01:06once again but even to the south of this we could still see some sleet and any sunshine
01:11starting to turn a little bit hazier across Scotland, Northern Ireland by the afternoon,
01:14a little bit more clouds starting to sweep in here.
01:18Now temperatures will take a dip compared to what we've seen today.
01:21So once again in the mid to high single figures for many areas but if we add on that wind chill
01:27as a result of those brisk northerly winds it's going to be feeling much colder.
01:31Across parts of Scotland for example it could feel more like freezing.
01:36Then into the evening once again lots of clear skies around so as soon as the sun goes down
01:41feeling much chillier and likely still to see some frost in places, possibly even some icy
01:46stretches.
01:47In West England for example we could see some patchy ice but a slightly different story starting
01:52to move through into parts of Scotland.
01:54Some showers, longer spells of rain falling into very cold air so a good chance we could
01:59see some snow here by the time we reach the morning.
02:01This time not just across the hills but to lower levels too.
02:06Once again though across the country a very cold start and some frost and ice in places.
02:11Now for Scotland it is going to be quite an unsettled day, an area of low pressure sweeping eastwards
02:18and with it bringing in some quite strong winds, some gales, some coastal gales in places and
02:23with some snow as well there's a good chance we could actually see some blizzard conditions.
02:28So definitely one to watch, do keep an eye out for any Met Office warnings.
02:31So here a very unsettled day, some outbreaks of rain and also some snow possibly even to
02:36lower levels and we could see some quite significant accumulations here as well.
02:40Now as we are across the country, a cloudier day with some showers and places still bringing
02:45some sleet and snow, this time remaining towards hilly areas of England and Wales and still
02:50very blustery winds even away from Scotland so another cold day to come.
02:55Temperatures widely in the mid single figures, a little higher to the south but with the wind
03:00chill feeling much colder.
03:03Now as we head into next week it's going to be a very different feel to what we had last
03:07week.
03:08So some overnight frost and some icy stretches, once again do keep an eye out for some Met
03:12Office warnings and there will be some brighter spells, some sunshine but still feeling cold
03:18in the wind, quite a noticeable wind chill and still the chance of some snow accumulations
03:23not just across Scotland, perhaps to some other areas as well.
