00:00Good evening. We've become accustomed to wet bank holiday Mondays, but this one's going to be very different.
00:05We're going to be talking about how hot it is rather than how wet it is.
00:09And it's all thanks to high pressure which will dominate through the week ahead.
00:12This week weather front will clear away through Monday and Tuesday from the northwest of Scotland.
00:15And then the fine settle theme is set to continue.
00:18So hot conditions at first, but then turning a little bit fresh as we start to pick up a bit
00:22more of an easterly or northeasterly breeze from the middle of the week.
00:25But it's a fine and very warm end to the weekend across the vast majority of the UK.
00:29Plenty of late evening sunshine.
00:32The northwest of Scotland, though, once again staying a bit cloudier and damp.
00:35Some bits and pieces of light rain and a bit more of a southwesterly breeze affecting the very far northwest
00:40of Scotland through the course of tonight too.
00:42Otherwise, though, winds very light and that will just allow one or two isolated fog patches to form,
00:46most likely in southwest Scotland and also across parts of the Northern Line,
00:50where we might well see temperatures in the countryside dip down to locally mid-single figures.
00:54But for the vast majority, it's going to be a rather warm night, particularly in England and Wales.
00:58And actually exceptionally so in some of our towns and cities.
01:02We might not even see temperatures fall much below 20 degrees Celsius in some more urban areas,
01:07which is pretty rare even in summer months and exceptionally high temperatures for overnight periods in May.
01:14So a very warm start to the day on Bank Holiday Monday for many of us.
01:18And those temperatures will quickly rise in that strong May sunshine.
01:21So a blue sky, water wall, sunny day really across many parts of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and certainly a
01:28good chunk of Scotland as well.
01:29The rain just confined to the very far northwest on Bank Holiday Monday.
01:33So a warmer day for southern Scotland and Northern Ireland compared to over the weekend too.
01:37But the peak of the heat will once again be across England and Wales.
01:41Temperatures will be higher for most compared to over the weekend.
01:43And we will see 30 spreading a bit further north, so into parts of northern England, parts of Wales as
01:49well.
01:49So we could see record-breaking temperatures here.
01:51And we're likely to see the all-time highest UK maximum temperature record for May be exceeded,
01:57which currently stands at 32.8 degrees Celsius.
02:00And 34, possibly a low chance of 35 is on the cars for parts of the southeast of England and
02:05the home county.
02:06So exceptionally hot for the time of year.
02:10Now we are going to see some pretty strong sunshine over the next few days.
02:13We're only less than a month or so away from the summer solstice.
02:16And that means that UV levels will be high or very high.
02:19So do remember to protect your skin from those harmful UV rays.
02:24As well as that, pollen levels are on the rise as well.
02:26So if you haven't been suffering with hay fever so far this year,
02:29we are now moving into the grass and weed pollen seasons.
02:32And on Monday, we are going to see high levels of pollen across the southern half of the UK.
02:38But actually, for many, Banclaude Monday will end sunny and very warm with barely a cloud in the sky.
02:44There will be this weather front still just bringing a little bit of patchy rain across the very far northwest
02:48of Scotland.
02:49But even here, it should turn dry and mostly clear as we go through the course of the night.
02:54Turning quite cool in the countryside across the highlands.
02:56Temperatures dipping into the single figures perhaps.
02:59But for the vast majority, once again, Monday night into Tuesday is going to be pretty warm and uncomfortable for
03:05sleeping.
03:05Quite a sticky night to come.
03:07Temperatures in the towns and the cities probably staying in the high teens Celsius.
03:11And perhaps once again, not falling below 20 degrees, which we term a tropical night.
03:15And these kind of temperatures are pretty rare even in summer months.
03:19So Tuesday begins on another very warm note, particularly across England and Wales.
03:24The blue skies and the strong May sunshine will quickly once again lift those temperatures.
03:28A much sunnier day to come across the northwest of Scotland.
03:31A dry day to come here.
03:32And feeling pleasant in that May sunshine with temperatures quite a bit higher than they will have been over the
03:37weekend.
03:37And for most, the winds will stay light as well.
03:40But we will actually start to pick up a bit more of a northeast-y breeze.
03:44And that will bring up quite a big drop in temperature across, in particular, northeast England.
03:48So here, we could well see temperatures quite a bit lower.
03:51But once again, the mid-30s certainly achievable across parts of greater London, southeast England.
03:57And perhaps more widely, 29 to 32 Celsius across the south, midlands and central, southern England.
04:02So exceptionally hot for May and likely once again record-breaking.
04:07But as I mentioned, a much cooler day to come for northeastern coastal regions,
04:11particularly northeast England, where we could see a drop of up to 10 degrees compared to on Monday.
04:16Now, the outlook is looking pretty settled.
04:18And indeed, fine as we go through Wednesday, Thursday and indeed Friday.
04:22Lots of sunshine for most of us.
04:24A bit more in a way of cloud, perhaps, by the end of the week.
04:27And whilst temperatures won't be as high as they are over the next few days,
04:30we'll still see temperatures widely above average for the time of year.
04:34Mid to high 20s degrees for many of us.
04:37So it is still worth keeping an eye on the vulnerable people, pets, etc.
04:41over the next few days.
04:42The high temperatures and the heat could cause some issues.
