00:00Most ten-year-olds are focused on school, playing with friends, and scrolling social media.
00:05But ten-year-old Emmy Eaton has far more on her plate.
00:09She is determined to match and even surpass the achievement of teenagers seven years her senior.
00:14Emmy, who is a Standard 4 student of St. Joseph Girls Roman Catholic School,
00:19has taken on the tremendous task of sitting two CSEC level examinations.
00:24While being interviewed, she possessed a quiet confidence
00:27and when asked where she decided to pursue such an ambitious school, she had this to say.
00:33I wanted to test myself and see if I can do great things.
00:37In the pursuit of great things, ambitious Emmy decided to write two examinations, Caribbean History and Spanish.
00:45Preparation for these exams began less than a year prior, with Emmy sacrificing play for academia.
00:51This sacrifice, however, gave her the confidence she needed to attempt an exam
00:55created to test students nearly twice her age.
00:58And when it came to step into the exam room, there were the usual nerves, but Emmy persevered.
01:04Talk to me about how it felt to walk into the exam room for your first exam.
01:08I was a little scared, but I remember that I thought that I would do good.
01:14And I got confidence.
01:16Coping with the pressure of these exams can be intense.
01:19But luckily for Emmy, she comes from a family with another ambitious academic.
01:24Emmy's father, Dr. Jeremiah Eaton, is an economics lecturer at the University of the Southern Caribbean,
01:30who believes that age shouldn't be a barrier to learning.
01:34Age should not be a limitation.
01:37It is the channeling of energy.
01:39That parents should channel the energy of the young ones to focus on the right thing to do.
01:46Of course, it's important to be conscious about age-specific efforts.
01:52But at the same time, we really do not know what children can do unless they get challenged.
01:59Dr. Eaton spoke fondly of his eldest daughter, sharing with TV6 that she always seemed destined for greatness
02:06and that her ambitions were out of this world.
02:09Right from when she was five years old, she kept saying she wants to be an astronaut.
02:13And I used to laugh because when I was five, I never knew what the word astronaut was.
02:20So telling me she wants to be an astronaut and she wants to make children to make her proud,
02:26I said, okay, that's a great thing.
02:28And I thought maybe it was just a childhood dream.
02:30It will go away.
02:32But I discovered that from five years till now, she's still focused on doing higher and bigger things.
02:39Apart from being an amazing student, Emi is also a loving big sister who is determined to set a positive
02:45example for her little sister, Etty.
02:48Trini and Tobago have got two very ambitious kids here because she says she wants to be an astronaut.
02:54She says she wants to be an astronaut and a doctor.
02:57And I said, I don't know how you're going to manage that.
02:59And she actually says when her sister gets through, that she too wants to do the same thing.
03:05Emi's brilliance inspires people of all ages.
03:08With her Spanish tutor, Willan Ivan-Nus, founder of the Cal Community Language Services, being amazed by her intelligence.
03:16Emi is a great student.
03:18She's really terrific.
03:19She's really ambitious.
03:20She's really brave.
03:22She's confident.
03:23She has a lot of confidence.
03:24She aims for the highest galaxies above the world.
03:29With the support of her family and tutor, Emi is a younger student in Trinidad and Tobago to attempt CSEC
03:35and hopes to bring pride to both her family and country.
