Transcript
00:00Samantha Dolly is quickly becoming a rising star in chess. She's the under 14
00:05female chess champion and will be representing TNT at the CSE games on
00:09August 1st in El Salvador. The Form 2 student at St. Augustine Girls High
00:14School has been diligent and she's doing extra to get ready. Researching players
00:18is important so you get a feel of their playing, you get to prepare maybe for
00:23their openings, so it makes you more confident and feel more prepared. But can
00:27they change their tactics considering that they perhaps know that you're going
00:30to be doing research on them? They may be able to change their tactics or openings
00:34which is why you should also have your own openings prepared in case they do
00:38that. And how far do you want to go as a chess player? I want to obtain a women's
00:44candidate master title just as my role model Zahra Lafleur did. She is a
00:50big sister at my school and she has also won many numerous championships. What do
00:55you have to do to attain that? You have to either get the rating of 2000 or win
01:00at CSE and the first in the top three and get a rating of 1800. So with that
01:07said are you looking forward to participating at the CSE games come
01:11August? Yes I am looking forward to participating in these games and to make
01:15my country proud and to also make my coach proud. What do you think you'll
01:19have to do to medal? I think I'll have to probably focus more on medal games
01:25and try my best there. The pieces are coming together as she makes her next
01:29move. To guide her along the path is her coach Quinn Cabrales. Yes I usually work
01:36with my coach he has increased the number of sessions during this month to
01:40help me prepare for my tournament which shows how patriotic he is and also how
01:46and also how he is interested in my development as a chess player. She has
01:51the support of her father, younger brother and her cool grandparents. I am
01:57very proud of my sister's achievements thus far and I wish her the best of luck
02:03in her trip to El Salvador. Samantha I think she's had like a great
02:11improvement from when she began during the COVID pandemic and within the past
02:17two years she's grown and become a rated player and she's done well in
02:22tournaments so I'm looking forward to not only Samantha but the entire Trinidad
02:27and Tobago contingent doing well in El Salvador and making the country proud.
02:31She leaves for the competition tomorrow. Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport.
