The West Indies are hoping they can address some of the glaring issues following their recently concluded high-performance programme.

The hope is to accelerate the growth of players and coaches to stem some of the issues that have been plaguing the Caribbean men for decades now.

00:00There's no other way to spin it.
00:04One of the biggest problems for the West Indies is spin and the current test series against
00:09Pakistan is a clear example as all 20 of the West Indies wickets in the first test fell
00:14to spinners.
00:15Cricket West Indies is aware of the issues and is attempting to tackle the problem with
00:19its recently held High Performance Initiative which is geared to accelerate player and coaching
00:24development.
00:25The High Performance Programme has drawn on the expertise of the Chennai Super Kings Academy
00:29and soon to be West Indies All Format Head Coach Darren Sammy spoke on how the Super
00:34Kings can help.
00:36Now another area of our game that we have to improve is playing spin and that's where
00:42Sri who's you know you saw in New Zealand coming in and beating India for 3-0 for the
00:51first time that is something that has not happened in a long time but it's the preparation
00:56that happened before that.
00:59Some of the guys from New Zealand going to that academy in India and working on the skills
01:07we saw the results.
01:09While playing against spin has been our Achilles heel Sammy also addressed the lack of top
01:14quality wrist spinners.
01:15If you look at how we compete on the world stage I think we're probably the only team
01:21that doesn't have that quality of a wrist spinner in the line-up we've seen how important
01:28it is to the top teams in the world you look at India, Australia, England all of them have
01:35that X factor whether it be left arm wrist spin traditional leg spin yes we have some
01:45quality finger spinners left arm and off spin but I still feel the need for that in order
01:52for us to take our game to another level.
01:54The initiative wasn't only about the players but the coaches too and Sammy gave his insight
01:59on the coaches symposium.
02:01I think the core or the future of our cricket relies first class cricket franchise cricket
02:08that's where the next group of cricketers are coming from so if you could have all the
02:12coaches understanding the direction in which we want to head in all formats and empowering
02:21them with the tools and the know-how and the goals that we are trying to achieve I
02:30think that is a step in the right direction hopefully from all this talking and these
02:36seminars and this whole symposium the action happens because that's what really matters
02:43we could have all the talk without action it's still just talk so that's what is the
02:49most important thing to me the action that will be able to be to put in place for us
02:54to get better.
