00:00Justice Frank C. Passard used the Mother's Day sermon to condemn what he described as the growing disrespect of women
00:07in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:09Quoting from Proverbs 31, Justice C. Passard told the congregation that women should be valued for their strength, dignity, wisdom
00:17and character, rather than superficial standards.
00:20He warned that society has drifted far from those principles.
00:24The high court judge said women are too often objectified, sexualized, diminished or unfairly judged,
00:32while public discourse increasingly focuses on appearance instead of intellect, sacrifice and leadership.
00:38And making the situation more dangerous is a normalization of disrespect toward women.
00:44The judge said, quote,
00:46Whenever dignity is eroded within society, violence eventually is inevitable.
00:50When language becomes degrading, behavior soon becomes degrading when women are no longer treasured,
00:57homes being a fracture and as a consequence, communities suffer.
01:02End quote.
01:03C. Passard criticized social media culture and some forms of entertainment,
01:07which he said routinely define women by physical attributes while ignoring their humanity.
01:13Referring to recent violent crimes involving children,
01:16Justice C. Passard questioned whether society is failing to properly guide young people.
01:22He said many of the nation's social crisis are manifestations of deeper spiritual and moral problems.
01:29He praised the mothers as the first teachers to society.
01:33Mother's Day is more than just a ceremonial observance or a social tradition marked by flowers and cards.
01:46It is a sacred reminder that long before laws shaped a nation,
01:55long before schools educated and long before institutions guided societies,
02:07there were and continue to be within homes and familial structures.
02:14Women whose sacrifice go unseen,
02:20whose prayers remain unheard by the world,
02:25but whose labor and love
02:29widely builds and continues to mold
02:34those whom she loves.
02:37He ended the sermon at the Marabella Presbyterian Church
02:40with a call for citizens to protect, respect, and value women
02:44while teaching sons that masculinity is rooted in discipline and responsibility
02:49rather than aggression and domination.
