00:00In October last year, many feared for the life of WPC Kiana Mahabir as she was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery.
00:08A bullet pierced the right side of her face, exiting through her cheek.
00:12Another shot through her arm.
00:14A third was lodged in her chest, causing a severe infection.
00:18Doctors placed her in a coma, relying on machines to help her breathe.
00:22Her chances of survival seemed slim.
00:25But today, Mahabir walks, talks and breathes on her own.
00:30An outcome she believes is nothing short of divine intervention.
00:34Speaking with TV6 News at a friend's home in central Trinidad, Mahabir described her recovery as a miracle.
00:41The bullet that was stuck in her stomach was finally removed last month and she overcame a serious infection caused by the wound.
00:49While her physical wounds have healed, the emotional and psychological scars remain.
00:55I remember I was in a coma, tubed up, you know, I couldn't breathe on my own.
01:00Now I'm breathing, I'm walking, I'm talking, you know.
01:05When I went back to the doctor recently, the doctor is watching me like,
01:09please, you're here, you're walking, but I'm like, yes, doc, Jesus, you know.
01:14And the doctor reminded me, he says, so many people came in here, not even with like one eighth of what you went through and they passed, you know.
01:22I'm like, doc, you know, it's a miracle, all because of Jesus Christ.
01:26I mean, during that process, it really, it really, like, it awakened me.
01:35Her faith has been her anchor throughout this difficult journey.
01:38And she remains steadfast in her belief that her survival was no accident.
01:43Every day I'm growing and it's really all glory to God.
01:48Like when I meet people, I'm like, you don't need to know my name.
01:51I want you to remember the name of Jesus, you know, but I'm joyous.
01:55But I reach out to God and ask God to give me the joy.
01:58So, yeah, I am doing better.
02:01Despite the brutality of the attack, Mahabir holds no resentment towards her attackers.
02:07I don't have anything in my heart towards them.
02:12No, we don't.
02:13We're not supposed to hate people.
02:15Right.
02:16And we do not fight evil with evil.
02:18So I really pray that they don't do that to anyone again and that the Lord reach them and they give their lives to God.
02:26Their souls as well are important.
02:29We are all important.
02:31You know, so I pray for their soul.
02:34For Mahabir, surviving this traumatic ordeal has become a calling to spread faith and hope.
02:40She is using her story to encourage young persons and communities to embrace love, faith and perseverance.
02:48Her story has left many in awe.
02:51ASP Gideon Dixon, head of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social and Welfare Association,
02:57expressed his admiration for Mahabir's resilience.

03:19WBC Mahabir was attacked on October 22nd outside her Karani home,
03:24shortly after returning from a 12-day tour with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Band in the Bahamas and the United States.
03:31After the brutal attack, she was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex,
03:36where doctors initially feared for her survival.
