00:00 LaShauna Yatali, the face and the mastermind behind the Caribbean artisan by her and the
00:06 Caribbean Artisan Naturals, a local skin and craft brand which gained some popularity last
00:12 year.
00:13 Yatali made a decision to combine her passion for science, craft, fashion and cosmetics
00:20 and turned it into a business.
00:22 I went with Caribbean Artisan because, and it's still a dream of mine, I want to have
00:26 a Caribbean Artisan Network.
00:28 This is, and it will probably be an NGO in the future.
00:32 Caribbean Artisan by Her and the Caribbean Artisan Naturals are locally produced and
00:37 comprised of a variety of products.
00:40 Yatali said in 2019 she was known for her crochet swimwear, but fast forward to 2024,
00:48 she is now known for her beaded jewelry and dark mark remover.
00:52 The Caribbean Artisan by Her, my major products for right now are my waist beads and anklets,
00:59 so my beaded jewelry.
01:01 So my clients come in, they get outfitted for their waist beads, I also sell anklets,
01:07 they try it on and they love it.
01:09 It's really an immersive experience, so they quite enjoy that.
01:13 But I also do bracelets and dream catchers, baby blankets, crochet swimwear.
01:21 With the skincare, I make soaps, scrubs, body butters, candles, but what has really put
01:28 me on the market, especially with this last year, has been my dark mark remover.
01:33 The artisan said she remains grateful to the Port of Spain City Corporation for their vending
01:38 program offered to young entrepreneurs last year.
01:41 She credits it with allowing her to get the recognition she needed for her business, which
01:46 in turn gave her the confidence to expand.
01:49 It has allowed me to have my shop and then I have expanded.
01:54 I have employees, I have other retail options available now and obviously online.
02:02 So I am expanding.
02:04 I have my eyes on expanding regionally.
02:08 I've already mapped out a destination.
02:13 And I already do export.
02:14 I have a lot of clients coming in who would have come in from tourist ships or even on
02:19 island and I do, I send abroad for them.
02:23 She has set up shop in Capital Plaza on Frederick Street, Port of Spain and tells us that her
02:28 clientele includes people from all walks of life.
02:32 Yatali gives the assurance that her local products are top quality and on par with foreign
02:38 brands.
02:39 Although she is grateful for the opportunity that came her way, she believes more can be
02:44 done to help small businesses.
02:46 She also encourages young people to find avenues that can help them become more educated
02:51 in the field of business they have interest in.
02:55 Yatali shared this message to other women on International Women's Day.
