National Chess Player Samantha Dolly is beaming with confidence following her title winning performance at the National Chess Championships where she walked away with the Under-17 and Under-20 crowns. She believes her success comes down to practice.

00:00Chess player, Samantha Dolly, has been chasing her dreams in the sport.
00:05She has high ambitions and her recent results tells a story of the efforts that she's been
00:10putting in to improve.
00:11She recently won the national under-20 and under-17 titles at the National Chess Championships.
00:17Well, the competition was very strong there and it had great camaraderie in both tournaments.
00:25However, I did lose one game in both of them.
00:29However, I managed to still secure first with the help of my coach, Coach Cabrales,
00:34as he guided me through these tournaments.
00:36By winning the competition, she has developed a greater sense of confidence.
00:40She's almost becoming one with the board.
00:42I felt very ecstatic and joyful, but I felt even more ecstatic when my coach, Coach Cabrales,
00:49who has helped me through these tournaments, had told me that how I was going to be able
00:55to participate in the CAC Games for Trin and the Under-16 Olympiads to represent Trin
01:00Dal in Tobago.
01:02Chess is turning out to be more than just moves on a board, as she has developed a greater
01:07understanding of patience and remaining calm in pressure situations.
01:12I have seen improvements in my game and so has my coach, as we have both worked together
01:18to try and improve my game for these two tournaments.
01:22What areas have you improved on?
01:24Well, I've improved more in the middle game than anything, and I've improved on how to
01:30lay back sometimes and to wait for them to make a mistake and then capitalize on that.
01:36Her father, Mark Dolly, is a proud man, as it's safe to say she's no longer a pawn in
01:41a game of kings.
