21 April - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Tuesday morning which is rather chilly.
00:05We're seeing one or two showers but for most it will be a dry day with some fine weather coming
00:10through.
00:11Here's that weak weather front which is drifting its way westwards but really the key feature of the weather will
00:16be the easterly wind
00:17which will develop and pick up some strength through tonight and into tomorrow.
00:21And you'll certainly notice the difference over the moors, across the west country and the hills and mountains of Wales.
00:27That's where the strongest winds will be.
00:29But the ridge of high pressure hangs on as we head through the rest of the working week.
00:33This morning you can see where this weak weather front is bringing in more clouds.
00:36Some patchy rain and drizzle particularly over hills and mountains.
00:39A few showers lurking out there but for most it's a dry start.
00:43One or two showers towards the south coast delivered by this wind coming in from the North Sea.
00:48And that wind will be with us for the next 24 hours and perhaps even beyond just shifting direction slightly.
00:54Through this morning then, well you can see where this cloud is breaking up.
00:57Any bits and pieces of rain and drizzle tending to ease and fade away.
01:03There could be a few showers through the afternoon across Northern Ireland but for most it's a dry afternoon.
01:10Notice this low cloud pushing in from Shetland towards Orkney and Clipping, Caithness.
01:15For many though, blue sky and sunshine.
01:17A brisk wind though, keeping temperatures lower along this east coast.
01:2010, 11, 12 degrees Celsius in shelter towards the west will see a 15.
01:24So 15 for places such as Argyla and Butte.
01:28Into this evening and overnight.
01:30This low cloud continues to migrate towards Aberdeenshire and beyond.
01:34This wind will pick up some strength, turning gusty particularly towards the west country where we could see gusts in
01:40excess of 40 miles an hour, particularly along the coast and over the moors.
01:44So a windy start to the day here and that brisk wind will keep things feeling rather cool.
01:48Under clearer skies, in shelter, temperatures will fall so we could even see a touch of frost, certainly grass frost
01:55in places as we head into Wednesday morning.
01:57But for most it will be fine with some sunshine.
01:59This cloud could be quite stubborn across the eastern side of Scotland, northeast England, but it will tend to break
02:05as we head through into lunchtime and the afternoon.
02:08For many, it's a lovely afternoon if you can shelter from that chilly, easterly, northeasterly wind.
02:14But later on, that sunshine turning rather hazy towards the west country.
02:17You could see a little rain just creeping in across Cornwall.
02:20Before that though, temperatures on the up.
02:21We'll see 15 across the Midlands as well as Wales, western parts of Scotland, 12 or 13 in shelter for
02:27Northern Ireland.
02:28But along this eastern strip, where the cloud could be stubborn in places even through the afternoon, 10 to 12
02:33degrees Celsius.
02:34So that's the picture through Wednesday.
02:36This ridge of high pressure stays with us through Wednesday and into Thursday.
02:40The wind changes direction more over north, northeasterly and will lose the sting in the wind towards the west country,
02:47southern and central areas as well.
02:49Into Friday, not a lot of change.
02:51We're still chasing cloud from time to time, but there will be some fine and bright weather to be had.
02:56And temperatures on the up as well.
02:58We could see towards the southeast 19 on Friday, further north 12 to 14.
03:02I'll see you later.
