11 June - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good morning to you. On this wet morning for most, we have a band
00:05of rain which has been moving in from the Atlantic overnight. It's extending eastwards
00:10through today. The winds will pick up towards the west as well as the south. We're like
00:14to see some heavier pulses as well, as eventually it pushes away from England but becomes confined
00:19to the far north of Scotland. In its weight, cloudy conditions, some showery bursts of
00:25rain likely through Friday and also that fresh breeze. But things are settling down
00:30and warming up from the southwest as we head through Friday and into the weekend. More
00:35about that in a moment. Through this morning, some brighter weather. Cape Ness, Aberdeenshire
00:39showers towards the north there for Shetland as well as Orkney. The clouds have thickened
00:44across most of the highlands. You can see this rain already covering most of the central
00:49belt of Scotland towards the Western Isles. Now, for Northern Ireland, expect some heavier
00:54pulses of rain through the morning with a strong wind. Most of Irish Sea coasts and whales seeing
00:59those strong winds and some higher rainfall totals are likely through the day, particularly
01:03over the higher ground of Wales. Rain also for the West Country and the Midlands pushing
01:09ever eastwards but a mostly dry start across the eastern strip of the country. It will be cloudy
01:14though. So through the morning, we watch the progression of this rain as it continues to push
01:19eastwards. Now, this arc here across Scotland will tend to stall so we won't see the wet weather
01:24arriving across the far north of Scotland until much later on. Temperatures through the afternoon
01:30will struggle a little bit, certainly with the strength of the wind and that wet weather,
01:3416 to 18 degrees Celsius at the very best. So by this point, the rain is across Scotland,
01:40still across Northern Ireland, much of England and Wales with some persistent bursts possible
01:44towards the southeast during rush hour. But it will clear. But it won't clear Scotland through
01:49the evening time. Eventually, it pushes up towards Orkney and then eventually Shetland into the early
01:55hours of Thursday morning with showers to follow across the northern and western half of the country.
02:00Temperatures then overnight, well, certainly a different feel to things if you're stepping up first
02:05thing on Friday morning, not as chilly. It will be milder, still a lot of clouds, drizzly in places.
02:11And notice this feature here will bring with it some showery bursts of rain through the morning.
02:15At the same time, during tomorrow morning, in shelter across eastern counties, you may catch
02:21a glimmer of sunshine. Still a brisk breeze coming in from the west-southwest though,
02:26and this rain is persistent, clearing Orkney through the morning and arriving across Shetland.
02:33So it's quite a messy picture on Friday, but certainly temperatures will be recovering
02:37and there will be some brighter slots as we head through the day. Still some showery bursts
02:42just mixed in there as well, extending eastwards and certainly some showers for central, northern
02:48and western areas of Scotland. But some brighter weather pushing in from the west as well.
02:53Low pressure still in charge on Saturday across Scotland. Northern England seeing some fleeting
02:58showers as well as Northern Ireland. But notice high pressure making an appearance from the south and
03:04southwest. And this will bring warmer and drier weather as we head through the day, particularly
03:09across much of England and Wales and eventually Northern Ireland as well. But frequent showery
03:14bursts with a stronger wind continue across Scotland there. Temperatures though, 18 across the central
03:19belt, 19 for Northern Ireland. A fine end to the day. And certainly we could see a 25 down towards
03:25the southeast of England. Warmer still on Sunday for most parts. On Sunday then, high pressure really
03:31affecting most of the country. Some sunny spells coming through, a mix of clouds and sunshine
03:34through the afternoon. And here are your temperatures. Arriving at 20 for the central belt, 19 or 20 for
03:40Northern Ireland. And then for mid Wales, we could see a 23. 26 towards the home counties along this eastern
03:47strip with an onshore breeze through the morning, easing through the afternoon. Yes, 19 or 20 degrees
03:51Celsius. And 23 down towards the west country as well as the Channan Islands. It's worth noting though
03:57that levels of grass pollen will be high through the weekend. Moderate probably for Scotland but
04:03further south and west, yes, some high levels. But warmer still across many areas as we head
04:08into the beginning of next week. Have a lovely day. Bye bye.
