24 April - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Friday morning which is chilly outside, a bit murky
00:05in places with a touch of frost but the prospect of some sunshine yet again today.
00:11High pressure sits across Scotland, we do have a brisk breeze towards the south west like the last few days
00:16but the wind strength is down a couple of notches relative to the beginning of the week.
00:20Winds then fall light through Saturday and into Sunday and some chilly nights coming up, warm in shelter as we
00:26head through the weekend.
00:27This morning though, look at this hard down the eastern side of Scotland affecting certainly Shetland as well as Orkney
00:33and clipping eastern strip of Scotland down towards the northeast of England where we will see that threat through the
00:40first part of the day.
00:41Clearer skies further west, watch out for a frost in places and also some murk, some mist and fog particularly
00:48across central and eastern areas of England.
00:50A fine start to the day for Northern Ireland, much of Wales and breezy still across the south coast as
00:56well as the south west peninsula.
00:58So this area of low cloud here with that mist and fog will tend to break up and burn away
01:05as we head through the first part of this morning.
01:07And that means some sunshine through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:12We will hang on to more cloud and a brisk breeze for Shetland, that cloud coming and going across Orkney.
01:17And along the east coast itself, yes, you could see that cloud just lapping along the shoreline through the day.
01:23For many though, blue sky, sunshine, UV levels are likely to be moderate, locally high.
01:28And in shelter, temperatures coming in around 18 across western Scotland, 16 for Northern Ireland and 2021 further south across
01:35England and Wales.
01:36Cooler along that east coast with an onshore drift.
01:39Now through this evening and overnight, we'll see starry skies, but notice across the far north of Scotland yet again
01:45that thick cloud and also some patchy rain and drizzle.
01:49The winds will be strong here, a lighter breeze elsewhere and yet again we're likely to see some mist and
01:54fog patches, particularly across eastern counties of England towards the east midlands.
01:58The cloud comes and goes across the western side of Northern Ireland, keeping temperatures probably slightly higher, but in the
02:04valleys in particular and the glens.
02:06We'll see temperatures dip close to freezing if not below, so some localised frost as we enter the day on
02:12Saturday.
02:12Through the morning a bit murky in places, certainly more cloud across the north east of Scotland and that sunshine
02:18rather hazy towards the far south west of England and Wales.
02:22For many though, it's a bright day with sunny spells and the clouds will break up across the north east
02:27of Scotland as we head through the afternoon.
02:30Now west will be best in terms of temperature, probably 17 to 20, 21 degrees Celsius along this east coast
02:35though, struggling up to around 11 to 13 with the breeze coming in from a cold north sea.
02:40So that's the picture on Saturday.
02:42Now through Sunday, expect more cloud across northern parts of Scotland.
02:46Here we're likely to see some patchy rain and drizzle.
02:49For most though, after a chilly night into Sunday morning, we'll see a light breeze, that cloud coming and going,
02:57some sunshine coming through.
02:59But pollen levels are likely to be high, if not very high, and that's tree pollen.
03:04So all in all, yes, a fine end to the weekend for many, and that sets the scene for the
03:09beginning of next week.
03:10Have a lovely weekend and I'll see you again soon.
