19 March - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning, which is chilly outside.
00:05We've seen starry skies overnight, a little mist and fog to start the day as well.
00:10And for Northern Scotland, apart from one or two showers towards Shetland, it's clear
00:14across central and northern areas.
00:16You run into this cloud which is stubborn across the central belt of Scotland as well
00:20as southern Scotland down towards Northumberland.
00:23Now for Northern Ireland, a fine start to the day.
00:25The sun is rising and temperatures will respond very nicely, but it is chilly here and we're
00:31seeing one or two shallow mist and fog patches and that's a similar situation further south
00:36across England and Wales, with quite a breeze coming in along the south coast as well as
00:40the west country.
00:41Now this weather front's been with us for the last few days and it will continue to produce
00:46some cloud, particularly across central southern Scotland, the far north of England.
00:50A little rain from time to time, but it will tend to fade away.
00:54For most of the country, through the morning into the afternoon, you can see its clear skies,
00:59sunny spells and a gentle breeze, but the orientation of the wind is now coming in from the east
01:05and northeast, so a bit of a cool breeze, particularly along the east coast.
01:10Even so, a pleasant afternoon to come as we watch as the cloud could break at times under
01:15this cloud band here, the odd spot where it's thick enough still though, and here are your
01:20temperatures.
01:21So we could see a 14 or 15 for Northern Ireland, so better than the last few days.
01:2511 or 12 after a frosty start across the far north and northwest of Scotland, we have seen
01:30a touch of frost first thing across England and Wales, but temperatures again responding
01:34to that sunshine, so 16 Celsius.
01:37Lower than yesterday, even so, pleasant in the sunshine.
01:41Where that cloud sticks, probably only around 11 or 12 Celsius, however, this cloud is going
01:47to break through this evening overnight and into tomorrow with the prospect of some sunshine.
01:53So as we head through this evening, starry skies yet again.
01:56Notice this cloud tends to break up, we'll see clear skies across many areas.
02:01Again inland, some mist and fog can't be ruled out, it could be a bit more extensive than
02:06the last few nights, so some murky conditions if you're travelling first thing, and certainly
02:12temperatures lower as well with a light breeze and also less in the way of cloud across Scotland.
02:17So we will see a frost as we enter the day on Friday, and as I said, some mist and
02:22fog around
02:23as well.
02:24So a chilly start, a bright one for most, and the sun yet again will rise very nicely through
02:30the morning with not a lot of clouds around, temperatures rising as well.
02:34Through the day then, some sunshine, temperatures through the afternoon could reach 16 for Northern
02:40Ireland, perhaps even the Murray Firth seeing a 16, mid-teens certainly across much of Scotland
02:45and a similar situation further south.
02:48Notice with this onshore breeze here, we could see around 13 or 14 anywhere from East Yorkshire
02:53down towards Norfolk.
02:54The winds could pick up across the north-west of Scotland later, and here the clouds will
03:00gradually thicken, and that will herald a change in our weather, but it will be a slow
03:05change through Saturday as well as Sunday, and certainly for the bulk of the country we'll
03:11see that fine weather extend until evening time.
03:14Here's that high pressure which has been with us, and we'll continue, you can see that weather
03:18front just moving towards the low countries as this one gradually edges in, weakening
03:23all the while.
03:24But it's this one here which will bring on Sunday a change of type in terms of weather.
03:30So the winds will slowly pick up, we'll see some outbreaks of rain, Northern Ireland, Western
03:35Scotland, fine and dry elsewhere like Saturday, some sunny spells coming through after a bit of
03:40chilly start, and that will mean a change to our weather as we enter a new week.
03:45Wherever you are, have a lovely day, enjoy the sunshine, and I'll see you very soon.
