00:00Hi there.
00:01I suspect many people across England and Wales will at least enjoy the feel of some rain
00:05falling out of the sky during the next few days, but it's not going to solve the drought
00:09situation overnight because we're not expecting huge amounts and it will be highly variable
00:13because a lot of it will come in the form of showers.
00:17However, overnight it's not so showery, it's a band of more persistent damp weather moving
00:22into parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland and then through the evening Southern Scotland,
00:26Northern and Western England Wales before toppling its way southward.
00:30Some brighter colours there over the predominantly higher parts of Western England and Wales indicating
00:35heavier bursts at times, but mostly the shading, light to dark blue indicates light to moderate
00:40rain and not amounting to a great deal, however it is better than nothing.
00:45And then we start off Wednesday with a very mixed picture across the UK, cool towards the
00:50north, 11 to 12 Celsius, warmer towards the south where early rain does clear relatively
00:56quickly and skies do tend to brighten, breaks in the clouds, some sunny spells coming through
01:02and essentially with low pressure close to the west of Scotland, it's going to be a very
01:07showery day across the UK, but highly variable in terms of where we like to see the most showers.
01:12Obviously, many of them will be close to the low centre.
01:15Northern Ireland, much of Western and Central Scotland seeing these frequent showers with
01:20heavy downpours, hail and thunder.
01:22Further south, showers fewer and further between, but still some downpours across especially central
01:28parts of England into East Wales and highly variable rainfall totals.
01:33Not the most useful form of rain, but we'll take what we're given for now.
01:37Low 20s in the south, perhaps heading towards the mid-20s in some of the warmer spots, a cool
01:42feel further north with the winds coming from the north and north-west and actually a cooling
01:47trend continues through the rest of the week as this cooler air mass comes southwards along
01:52with low pressure which is going to be trundling into parts of Northern England, North Wales
01:56by early hours of Thursday and it will bring with it its most lively showers.
02:01So the emphasis for downpours by dawn on Thursday into Northern England, North Wales.
02:07Still some showers elsewhere, interspersed by clear spells wherever you are, it's still
02:11a mild night.
02:12Mid-teens in the south, low double figures further north.
02:16Then on Thursday morning, some very heavy rain across parts of Northern England into
02:21North and West Wales and these showers will be coming in frequently for the south-west
02:24as well.
02:25Fewer showers towards the south-east as we begin the day on Thursday, but a better chance into
02:29the afternoon of these showers coming southwards and dumping a reasonable amount of rain in
02:35places.
02:36But again, because of their showers, it will be hit and miss, very speckled in nature.
02:40Further north, fewer showers for Northern Ireland and for Scotland, but still a day predominantly
02:45of bright spells and showers, a gusty wind making it feel cool mid to high teens in many places.
02:52Low 20s in the south and that means that actually for a large part of the UK, temperatures will
02:57be below average on Thursday.
02:59And that's again something we've seen on only a handful of days this summer.
03:04It's been a remarkable summer.
03:06There'll be some welcome rain in places over the next few days, but not a huge amount and
03:11highly hit and miss from place to place.
03:14Then high pressure builds in for the weekend, turning things drier for a time, but perhaps
03:19only for a few days.
03:20I've got more on that in the deep dive this week, which you can find on our YouTube channel.
03:26Bye bye.
