00:00I thought they would do something at quarterback.
00:02They still could.
00:04But are you surprised that we're sitting here the week of the draft
00:06and it's still Shadour Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dylan Gabriel?
00:11I am, but I'm also not in a weird way.
00:14That doesn't confuse the hell out of me.
00:16Thanks.
00:16I mean, I'm surprised because I know this team
00:21likes to carry four quarterbacks in the offseason.
00:23And I am anticipating that that's still going to be the case.
00:27But I'm also not because I don't necessarily think the options right now
00:32are so great that they've had a lot at their disposal
00:37in terms of guys that they could add that either make the room immensely better
00:41or are an upgrade or that you would kind of throw into a competition
00:46with the guys who are already here if that's how you wanted to kind of go about it.
00:49So I don't know.
00:50I'm fascinated to see how the draft plays out as far as that position is concerned.
00:56And there's kind of two things.
00:58Like, as I get ready for the draft this week,
01:00there's two sort of set parameters I have in my head.
01:04And they're both things, honestly, Scott talked about.
01:06The first is I think it's more important to address the offensive line,
01:10the wide receiver first, because in this league,
01:13if you look around at the best tackles in this league and the starters in this league,
01:17the majority of guys that make it, especially at left tackle,
01:21are guys that you take in the first round.
01:23There's not a lot of second round on tackles that are starting in the NFL.
01:29And so you've got to find those guys.
01:30It's one of those premium spots.
01:32It's like quarterback.
01:33You have to find those guys.
01:34And based on what Tom Munkin has said,
01:37I just think they are going to prioritize O-line over receiver.
01:41And that might anger a lot of people, but I think that that's the case.
01:43So that's the one thing.
01:44And the second thing is, to get back to the start of this conversation,
01:50is I do think they're going to add a quarterback at some point.
01:54I don't know when it's going to be.
01:55I don't think it's going to be Ty Simpson.
01:57Although if Ty Simpson somehow made it to them at 39,
02:02or if he's still there in the third round somehow,
02:04which I know Albert Breer is a guy who's talked about how Ty Simpson is going to slide,
02:08I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the trigger at that point.
02:11But I think they're going to add a quarterback because I continue to say,
02:16this team is going to have four quarterbacks when they get into the summer,
02:21when training camps.
02:22It's just how they do business.
02:24It's how they operate.
02:24They want to have four quarterbacks in that room.
02:27And so at some point they're adding one.
02:29I don't know what else.
02:30Maybe you trade for Anthony Richardson after the draft.
02:32I don't know.
02:33But to me, the most obvious.
02:34Which I would be all for.
02:35Yeah, I'm okay with that too.
02:37But to me, the most obvious place to do this is going to be this weekend in the draft.
02:41And so I think at some point they're going to add one.
02:43So they love to have some kind of a camp arm, right?
02:46They always do.
02:48Typically that guy in the past though has been a veteran quarterback
02:51who's bounced around a decent amount and is just there as a camp arm.
02:55The only one that never really fit that mold was Kellen Mond.
02:58But the thing with Kellen Mond is at least he bounced around a bit.
03:00And these are veterans who have been around but not really hit it.
03:06You know what I mean?
03:07Like Tyler Huntley was the perfect example of a camp arm.
03:09Yeah.
03:09That they had there for a good year.
03:11Josh Dobbs.
03:11Josh Dobbs.
03:12Yep.
03:12So I hear you, man, again.
03:13But I think this is a little different because it's a new coach.
03:17And so to me, I can't wrap my head around Tom Monk
03:23not adding one guy to this room.
03:25At the position that matters most to him.
03:27Right.
03:28That he didn't have some say in.
03:30And I think that to me that would be more than just a guy who's like a journeyman veteran
03:34that they're bringing as a camp arm.
03:37It would be somebody that they legitimately think like, Todd wants to work with this guy.
03:40Todd thinks he can develop this guy.
03:42Todd thinks he can develop this guy.
03:42So to me, it's about figuring out who that guy is for them.
03:47And then maybe Dylan Gabriel is the guy who's on the outside looking in and they trade him
03:51at the end of camp.
03:52See that?
03:52That's the way I'm approaching it.
03:54That's why I've thought all along, could you make a nice enough trade offer to the Colts
04:01for Anthony Richardson?
04:03I don't hate it.
04:04That might be the type.
04:06Again, he's not done well in Indy.
04:08Okay.
04:08He's had injuries.
04:10He's had some things.
04:12But at one point, he was a really highly thought of prospect and he's still younger
04:16than Shadour and Dylan.
04:18And that makes more sense than these guys.
04:22Names.
04:23Anybody float your boat here?
04:24Derek Carr, who's still retired.
04:26He's not coming out for this.
04:27Right.
04:28Aaron Rodgers, who's not coming here.
04:30He's not coming here for this.
04:31Russell Wilson?
04:32He's not coming here for this.
04:33I don't think he is either.
04:35Terod Taylor?
04:36Unless he has no other options, I guess.
04:37Maybe.
04:38Jimmy G?
04:39Does Terod Taylor have any connection to Todd Munkin?
04:43Did he have a cup of coffee in Baltimore?
04:44Yeah, but I don't think Todd was there.
04:46Yeah, I think it was.
04:47I don't think he was when he was there.
04:49Because I wonder if there's a vet with a connection to Todd Munkin that's going to
04:54show up here.
04:55I mean, the answer was Todd Huntley, but he went back to Baltimore.
04:57Cooper Rush.
04:59Now, there's a connection to Todd Munkin.
05:00He was with Munkin last year.
05:02That's one I would circle, gentlemen.
05:04Because if you're going to do this, it's probably going to be a vet who could
05:07speak a similar language to Todd Munkin.
05:10Yeah.
05:11Can I just bring back DTR?
05:14I did that just for a reaction.
05:16I got nothing.
05:17I think that should be safe.
05:18Yeah, I think so, too.
05:20I think so, too.
05:21Nice kid.
05:22That's a shame.
05:23No, he was awesome to talk to.
05:25He was a really nice kid.
05:26Oh, that poor kid in the Baltimore game.
05:28His eyes got so big.
05:30I'll never forget when he had the really good preseason game and everybody thought he
05:35was the future quarterback at the Cleveland Browns.
05:38Yeah.
05:39We tend to do that here.
05:40We tend to see preseason performances and think, man, what can this guy be?
05:48I'll never forget watching him say hike the first time against the Ravens and you just
05:53saw his eyes get massive and he just had that look of, oh, no, this is going to hurt.
05:59Danny didn't get the starting reps he needed.
06:01Oh, I'm sorry.
06:02Please don't.
06:03Sorry.
06:03Don't do it.
06:04Miles Garrett shows up at the Cavs game and then puts something out on social media that,
06:09you know, I'm out of here.
06:10Right?
06:10I'm flying out and going somewhere else.
06:13First of all, is that okay?
06:16Yeah.
06:16I think that's perfectly fine.
06:19You don't.
06:20You're.
06:20It's voluntary.
06:21You don't have to be.
06:22See, I'll say this, Jeff.
06:26If he's not at the minicamp this week, I don't have a problem with it.
06:31Fine.
06:32I can wrap my head around that because this is what Miles does.
06:35And I've been on the record saying, like, this isn't news until it's news.
06:39When he doesn't show up to mandatory minicamp, then we can talk.
06:43Then it's a deal.
06:43But what I will say, Jeff, if we find out that Miles was here for a day, a couple days,
06:50whatever it was, went to the Cavs game, and didn't even make an attempt to get over there.
06:57Say hi to.
06:57Say hi to Tom Munkin.
06:59Meet him at all.
06:59Have lunch.
07:01Now I think, now I think, like, that's where I'm a little skeptical that there's more than meets the eye
07:07here.
07:07That doesn't mean they're going to trade him.
07:09But, like we talked about with Scott, it might just mean, hey, he wants more money.
07:13He wants a new contract again.
07:14He wants a little added to it because he wants to be the highest paid non-quarterback.
07:18Whatever it is, that's where I'm a little skeptical.
07:20I mean, think about it like this, Jeff.
07:21Like, if you're taking a work trip to a certain city and you have a friend that lives there or
07:28a family member that lives there,
07:29are you showing up and, like, not telling them that you're in town?
07:33Very rarely would that ever be the case.
07:35Okay.
07:36So that's what I mean.
07:36Like, if I'm going somewhere where I have a friend or I have family, I'm at least going to tell
07:41them, like,
07:41hey, I might have some time to catch up.
07:43Like, let's see if we can grab a bite.
07:44Right.
07:45That's kind of what it feels like to me.
07:47He would be avoiding meeting the new head coach in person when he was in town,
07:53and we know he was actually in town.
07:54So, you know, they can't just use the excuse of, like, oh, we've texted with Miles.
07:58We've talked to Miles.
07:59If he wasn't there in person in some capacity, I think that does kind of raise the red flags a
08:04little bit.
08:04I love having Miles Garrett on this team.
08:07I think you win with premier talent.
08:10That said, and I've mentioned this on our show numerous times, Spencer.
08:16I want your thoughts.
08:17Miles is a guy who has a lot going on.
08:20He seems to have a lot of interests other than football.
08:24When he's interested in football, which is whenever he has shown up, man, he's really good.
08:28Yeah.
08:29I mean, he's tremendous.
08:31I just keep wondering, is he the kind of guy, and there's nothing wrong with this,
08:36who pulls an Aaron Donald?
08:38Hey, thanks, everybody.
08:39That was great.
08:39I'm done.
08:41He's 30 now.
08:43Now, so this upcoming season, he'll be playing at the age of 30 years old.
08:47I don't see Miles playing.
08:49I know Jimmy Haslam said we think he's going to be a premier player for another four or five years.
08:53I don't see him playing that long.
08:56And that thought factors into my thinking of, okay, you had the best defensive player in the game,
09:03and your team was lousy the last two years.
09:07This might be the time to cash in that asset.
09:12Yeah.
09:13If you could get a starter, a position starter at a position of need, either on the offensive line
09:18or at safety or at wide receiver and a couple of number ones,
09:25I don't know that that doesn't make you a better football team.
09:28The one thing I'll say, because you talked about maybe him retiring early,
09:31I don't think he wants to play.
09:32He doesn't want to do the Tom Brady thing.
09:34He doesn't seem like that kind of guy to me, which is great.
09:38That's fine.
09:39I will say, though, as long as he stays healthy, he made the comments this year
09:43as he was chasing the sack record that he wants his next big individual feat.
09:49He's got the defensive players of the year.
09:52He's got the single-season sack record.
09:54His next one is to chase down Bruce Smith.
09:56And he said, you know, if I stay at the pace I'm at for the next four to five years,
09:59I should be able to get there.
10:01So I think he has that in the forefront of his mind.
10:05So I don't know that it's like, I'm under, he's going to retire in the next year or two.
10:09But, you know, it's an interesting thought, though, because I don't think, Jeff,
10:13to your point, that he wants to play forever and, like, be late in his career,
10:18just kind of, like, dwindling.
10:19Like, no.
10:20And that position's a tough one to play deep in.
10:23Right.
10:23He wants to take care of business, do his thing, set his legacy, and get out.
10:28And so, to your point, if you're trying to maximize the value of him,
10:33I understand why this conversation's happening.
10:35And I understand why people feel like they should trade him.
10:38You know, if they did it, I wouldn't be shocked.
10:41I thought it was interesting at the annual meetings that Andrew Barry was asked directly,
10:45like, can you unequivocally say you're not going to trade him?
10:48And his answer was, as soon as he started his answer with, I'll tell you this,
10:53or I'll say this.
10:54It's like, ooh.
10:54I knew, and he did say, yeah, he's a career brown.
10:58Great.
10:59Everyone's a career brown until they're not.
11:00Shador Sanders is a career brown right now.
11:02Dylan Gabriel's a career brown.
11:04He might get traded after training.
11:05Like, that means nothing to me.
11:07So, I don't know what the intentions are here,
11:10but I just think it's interesting that, as we continue to monitor the situation,
11:15if he was here and he didn't meet Tom Munkin at all, that's interesting to me.
11:21We're going to talk a little wide receiver later in the show.
11:23So, Spence has one in particular that he might think the Browns should take at six.
