00:00The Shador Sanders conversation to me is fascinating because there are, to me, the best case scenario for the Browns
00:11to move forward the fastest is for Sanders to be the man and to be able to be the man
00:18for a long time and assign him to a long-term deal and have him go out and lead this
00:23team to the playoffs or whatever, right?
00:25You're assuming he's going to be good.
00:27If he is good, that's the whole thing.
00:30So if he's good or elite, then, man, we're in great shape.
00:37Okay?
00:37You're pushing it now.
00:38Well, I'm just saying, truthfully, Jeff, would that not be the best case scenario for the organization?
00:43It would be the scenario I'm rooting for.
00:46Yeah, I think it's the best case scenario.
00:48There's a reality to it that we—
00:51I hope he's phenomenal.
00:52He's got to get better than he did last year, right?
00:55But he's here and working toward that.
00:57That's right.
00:58And it's not fair to assume any rookie comes into the league and lights it up, especially a rookie who
01:06many teams passed over many times.
01:08And I do know that, you know, Shador Sanders fans are passionate, extremely passionate about the guy they want to
01:17see play starting quarterback, so much so that they sometimes overlook where he was drafted, or they will find someone
01:24else to blame on an interception, or bad offensive line, or they will find the reason that the problem may
01:32not have been in him in certain plays.
01:34Or are oblivious to the fact that, for whatever reason, he didn't play real well last year.
01:39Well, especially in the beginning of the season where you hear stories about him not being very engaged in team
01:45activities because he was looking at being the number four quarterback, right?
01:49Or—
01:50Whatever the reason, yeah.
01:52Whatever the reason, there was a lot of room left for growth.
01:56Yeah, so—
01:56And hopefully he can do that.
01:58I mean, I'm just kind of—it's out there, like, there are scenarios where he could be traded.
02:04And like Scott just said, you're like, well, if there's a possibility that he could be the guy, then why
02:10would you even think about it?
02:12And, you know, for me, it's not about him.
02:15It's about the organization and what the organization wants to do and exactly what happened with Kenny Pickett and Joe
02:21Flacco last year.
02:22Is he different than them?
02:23Yes.
02:23But they were—like, we—a lot of us thought Kenny Pickett was going to be the man last year, right?
02:28Going into the season.
02:29And then, I don't even—he got—he got dinged up a little bit.
02:33Boom, he was gone.
02:34Yeah, he was out.
02:35And Joe Flacco was your starter in the beginning.
02:38And maybe this was the beginning of the end for Kevin Stefanski when they were like, eh, well, let's just
02:43get Flacco.
02:44We'll take him off the starter spot, right?
02:46And then they started Gabriel.
02:49And you're like, oh, this is weird.
02:50What's going on?
02:51And then, boom, they trade Flacco, and you're like, okay, these two veterans they had in are now gone, and
02:57you've got, you know, young guys playing quarterback for your team trying to figure it out.
03:01So let me go forward.
03:03So Yahoo Sports, and I don't—is this a rewrite of somebody else's?
03:08But, you know, according to—so I'm looking through Yahoo.
03:11The headline on Yahoo is Patriots involved in blockbuster trade pitch that involves Browns quarterback Shador Sanders, okay?
03:19And as you read a little bit deeper into it, it talks about how Christopher Knox at the Bleacher Report
03:25put out a new three-way deal idea in it.
03:28And the Patriots would be part of the blockbuster deal of the offseason, but it would also be the Patriots,
03:35the Cardinals, and the Browns.
03:37And I hate getting into this hypothetical stuff, but, you know, in this story, because when I first started reading
03:43it, I was like, wow, this is super interesting.
03:45In their trade scenario, the Patriots would get Michael Wilson from the Cardinals, and then the Patriots—
03:51Had a great year at wide receiver.
03:52Yeah, and then the Patriots would send Keishon—
03:54Booty.
03:55Booty to the Cardinals, and a 20-27 third-round pick to the Browns that would ultimately swap Booty out
04:05for Wilson, but then wrapping up the trade, the Browns and Cardinals would swap quarterbacks.
04:11And this is where we were talking to Scott about Jacoby Brissett, where they're saying that Brissett, unhappy with his
04:17contract, would be sent to Cleveland.
04:19And then Sanders would go to Arizona, and the Browns would also send a fourth-round pick to Arizona, and
04:26that would let Brissett and Sanders both kind of hit the reset buttons on their career.
04:31I think there's only one reason to trade Shadur Sanders.
04:37What is it?
04:39I'm convinced that they're looking at 20-27 for a quarterback.
04:43Okay?
04:44Okay.
04:44So, this year you have Shadur and Deshaun, and the other two guys as well, but Shadur and Deshaun.
04:53The only way I would trade Shadur, knowing that I'm looking toward 20-27, at least I think they are,
05:02is that—and the only way they're not is if you happen to get lucky this year, and somebody really plays
05:08well at quarterback.
05:10Maybe Shadur.
05:10If they were offered a quarterback who they liked more than Shadur, basically even up for Shadur, who they thought
05:18might become that franchise quarterback, then I would make the move.
05:23For instance, I like Jalen Milrow.
05:26He's sitting as a backup in Seattle, and number three guy, really.
05:30Would you trade Shadur for Jalen Milrow?
05:35All right, which quarterback do they like better?
05:37That's what you need to decide.
05:39And remember, Milrow came off the board right before Dylan Gabriel did in the third round in that draft.
05:46Do you think—and supposedly Andrew Barry has liked Anthony Richardson for a long time.
05:53Do they think Anthony Richardson still has the upside?
05:57Do the Colts think that Shadur Sanders would be better Daniel Jones insurance than Anthony Richardson?
06:03All right, I'd make that trade and give Anthony Richardson a year.
06:08Is he the guy?
06:09Well, it doesn't matter because we're going to take somebody in 2027 anyway.
06:13But if he comes in and he's really good, well, then maybe there's your guy.
06:17That's the only way I'd trade Shadur.
06:19Otherwise, I'm going to let him see if he can be the guy.
06:24I'm trading Shadur if I thought I was bringing in a quarterback I knew.
06:29Probably maybe had some more seasoning than he does.
06:32What about more upside?
06:33It's upside more than seasoning to me.
06:37Well, it depends.
06:38It goes back to the original question.
06:39Are you looking for a quarterback in 27?
06:41I think they are.
06:43That's one of the things they picked up all those draft assets from the Rams for in the miles trade.
06:47The other question, too, is how healthy do you expect Watson to be this year?
06:52I expect him to be healthy enough that when his contract expires at the end of the year, they wish
06:57him luck.
07:00I made Dan laugh.
07:02We both laughed at him.
07:04I'm glad your bar is pulse.
07:07Right now, we're talking about a story that's on Yahoo Sports, but it's also on Bleacher Report as well.
07:13Just kind of kicking around the idea of a three-way trade with the Patriots and the Cardinals.
07:19And when it's kind of all said and done, the biggest thing that would affect you would be Jacoby Brissett
07:24coming back to the Browns.
07:26And then Shadur Sanders heading out to Arizona in the deal.
07:30It's speculative.
07:31It is.
07:32And it also says the Browns would send it.
07:33They're just throwing stuff around.
07:34The Browns would also send a fourth-round pick to Arizona.
07:36It's pretty detailed, though, for speculative, though.
07:39I mean, there's a lot of stuff.
07:40Well, you've got time on your hands in June, Andy.
07:42Well, that is true, Jeff.
07:44Would you want Brissett back?
07:46Let me start there.
07:47I didn't really know.
07:47To do what?
07:48To be the placeholder.
07:50No.
07:51Oh, okay.
07:52How about the long snapper?
07:54I would rather have Shadur Sanders than Jacoby.
07:58And I think Jacoby's a better quarterback.
08:00But I think we know what Jacoby's ceiling is.
08:04Let's see what Shadur can do.
08:06He's on the roster.
08:07Let's see what he can do.
08:08Here's another weird way to look at it.
08:10And maybe weird isn't the right word.
08:11But, I mean, if you're a Sanders fan, do you want him out?
08:15Do you want him out of Cleveland?
08:17Do you think he might have a better?
08:18This might be his best chance at the starting.
08:20I think so, too.
08:22But I also wonder, well, maybe there's other teams out there that would give him a different kind of opportunity.
08:29Like, I think Todd Munkin is definitely a good backup.
08:32I mean, seriously, if he wants to be a starting quarterback, he's in a great spot.
08:37Who's better than he is on this team right now?
08:39I'll wait.
08:41I mean, Deshaun Watson should be better than he is.
08:43Should be.
08:44Who's better than he is right now?
08:47Well, it feels like coming out of minicamp that Watson was the guy.
08:51That Watson's probably going to be your starting quarterback when the season starts.
08:55That may be the case.
08:56So, if he thinks he's going to be sitting here as the number two going into, which, by the way,
09:01knowing the Browns, like, sitting number two is just, like, just wait.
09:05All you got to do is wait a couple minutes and you probably will be the starting quarterback.
09:08Don't know how many quarterbacks they've gone through since 1999.
09:11So, why wouldn't you just kind of hang tight for a second if you were Sanders rather than trying to
09:16push for a deal?
09:16Like, if they go into camp and he's, or they go into the season and he's number two, if you're
09:20his agent, are you pushing for him to get out of here?
09:23Knowing your trade deadline's coming up after that?
09:25Yeah, I mean, I got to get a couple weeks.
09:27There's one thing about trading, Andy.
09:29I think everybody who thinks that they could trade him and get somebody think that other teams want him.
09:36Well, you don't know where any better of the team would be because of injuries and things like that, too.
09:39At that point, that changes the narrative.
09:42But every team in the, again, I hope the guy is phenomenal and I hope he's here when he's phenomenal
09:49and I hope he's the starting quarterback for a decade because that means they solved the problem in a great
09:54way because he's already here and he's already cheap.
09:58But look around the NFL.
10:00How many teams need a quarterback more than the Browns?
10:05Go ahead, look around.
10:06I'm looking.
10:07We'll get back to you.
10:08Hang on, I might be back in a couple hours.
10:10Jets might.
10:11Geno Smith.
10:14Maybe the Jets.
10:15Steelers might.
10:16I want to let this thing play out until it doesn't.
10:19That's kind of where I'm at.
10:21And if it does, we all win.
10:23If it doesn't, okay, then they gave it every chance it possibly could have.
10:28And, you know, big picture, if you look at it, I know this drives George Sanders fans crazy, but he
10:35was a fifth-round pick, and they were able to get the most out of a fifth-round pick that
10:40they thought.
10:40If it doesn't work, that's if it doesn't work.
10:43That's not what I'm saying.
10:44If it works, great.
10:45We all win.
10:46But I don't know where this thing's going, and I also don't know what they're thinking.
10:51And, you know, when Jeff says, hey, are they looking towards the next draft, I tend to agree with him
10:5599% of the time.
