00:02I said this a long time ago, and nobody believed it then.
00:06And, you know, everybody remembers when you're wrong.
00:09No one wants to really remember when you're right, so that's fine.
00:11But when you give them options, and I understand $50 million in the bank.
00:16I heard it last year with Dante Moore, and it made sense.
00:20$50 million.
00:21Ross Tucker said it, yelled it at Nick and Jonathan,
00:25as opposed to $5 or $6 or $7 of what you're going to make in college.
00:30And I know the number goes up.
00:32It seems like it's a no-brainer.
00:34Is it?
00:36Is it a no-brainer?
00:38Because they don't – guys who win don't like losing.
00:43Guys who win who have been in good situations
00:46that everything has been built around them,
00:49they don't like going to situations that are outside their control.
00:52They don't like going to perennial losers.
00:56Like, this is something that will be discussed and is real.
01:01And I still stand by it.
01:03I don't think that Dante – I think if the Jets weren't there for Dante Moore,
01:07then Dante Moore might have came out of –
01:09and was in the NFL draft last year.
01:12And I fear that with us.
01:14Because that's –
01:15What can make this worse is somebody turning us down.
01:18Well, and obviously the one thing that's changed,
01:20and, you know, you can't minimize it entirely,
01:22but is the fact that you can go back to college
01:25and legitimately get paid,
01:27and you can become, like, one of the highest-paid dudes at your school,
01:31like, including the university president.
01:33You know, that wasn't around five years ago.
01:36And so Dante Moore doing that
01:38and people thinking Arch could do that after this year.
01:42You know, we still have a long way to go on all of those things.
01:45You know, I am so curious, though, because the thought is,
01:51oh, let's say you wanted to avoid the Cleveland Browns, right?
01:54So you're like, my representation, my family,
01:58I just – it's nothing personal against Cleveland, Ohio,
02:01but I just don't want to go there.
02:03I just think it's setting me up for failure.
02:05Okay, but if you're the best quarterback in the class,
02:08wherever you end up going is going to be the worst team in the NFL
02:13or one of the worst teams in the NFL.
02:15So if it ends up being the Dolphins,
02:18or I know the Jets won in week one,
02:20but it ends up being the Jets,
02:22like, it's a huge risk to go back and play a full season of college football,
02:27risk all the different injuries and those considerations
02:31just to end up in the exact same spot that you're going to be in.
02:34You have insurance.
02:35You have that.
02:37But it's also going to turn into –
02:39like, for a guy like Arch Manning,
02:40like, I think the nuttiest parts are here to come.
02:42Now, he may very well just decide he wants to go back to college next year.
02:46Well, I'm using him as the example here, the operative example.
02:48People have said, don't assume he's coming out.
02:50And I would agree.
02:52I would agree.
02:52There's options that he has,
02:54and you can very well just decide that he wants to go back to college.
02:57But if he does come out,
02:59I also think that this could end up being a thing where he does what John Elway did.
03:05He does what his uncle did,
03:08where it does become – how can you support him?
03:11And so, if, like, the Browns have the third overall pick, right?
03:17Would it surprise you at all if, like, the college football season ends
03:21at the end of November, the regular season?
03:24You still got a whole other month.
03:26Would it surprise you at all if anybody in the Browns' top brass were going,
03:30John, your dad's going to get a percentage.
03:34Your family gets a percentage.
03:36Oh, I mean, my thought –
03:37We will hire your coach.
03:39Yeah.
03:39We will trade what we need to trade.
03:41We will hire your coach if you come here.
03:44Oh, and I was going to go further than that.
03:46I was going to go, who would you be comfortable with running the organization?
03:50That too.
03:52That job's up for grabs as well.
03:54Guys, the Mannings have been around the NFL for how many – well, I mean, the grandfather.
03:59It's been, you know, the entirety of the last 50 years.
04:03They're the Kennedys of football.
04:04They're the Kennedys of the NFL.
04:05So, I guarantee you that there are people around them who they would be convinced
04:12could help turn a football team around.
04:14And, you know, as long as you have some young talent, which most NFL teams do, that are bad
04:18because you've been drafting, you know, high up in the draft.
04:21All right, Brown's got some young, exciting talent.
04:23Hey, look at these receivers and their separation rates.
04:25Last week, Boston had a nice – Concepcion had some nice moments, even if the offense was otherwise horrific.
04:32Like, all right, who would you want to run this football organization?
04:37You're seeing more and more teams take wild chances.
04:40I mean, look, Matt Ryan is now running the Atlanta Falcons.
04:43Like, you're seeing teams that are willing to shelve whatever they've got going on.
04:47You know, nothing personal, Andrew Barry, nothing personal, Todd Munkin.
04:51But, you know, we want to make sure that we have a built-in trust situation here.
04:56And, obviously, the Haslams go way back with the Mannings.
04:58But it wouldn't even just be that.
05:00I mean, even if it were Dante Moore coming out.
05:01Dante Moore has – he's exhausted his options, it seems, in college sports.
05:06I mean, who the hell knows anymore.
05:07I'd have to be careful about saying that sentence with all the injunctions they could file and things like that.
05:12But, even if you've exhausted your options, do I want to play for your franchise?
05:17Do I want to do something?
05:18Like, guys are more empowered than it's just like, hey, you're number one overall.
05:22He's the number one prospect.
05:23Good luck with each other.
05:24And we'll see you down the line.
05:26Like, it's not that anymore.
05:27And I think what Albert Breer just did is he said what people have been worried about here since what
05:33they saw kick off on Sunday.
05:35It's like, hey, yeah, okay, you don't want to be great this year.
05:38You traded Miles Garrett.
05:40We know what this season's about.
05:42We knew it back then, but some of us just didn't want to believe it.
05:45Okay, so if I know what this season's about, that's fine.
05:47But if you can't conduct yourself as an organization, if you can't conduct yourself as a place that can be
05:53a place where somebody can grow, then they're going to go ahead and they're going to go back.
05:57And you lose out on that.
05:58And I can't imagine.

06:05How much worse would you feel?
06:07Like, how much more could you mess this up?
06:09We're now not even that guy who seems to be, as of right now, there's a collision course between the
06:15two, how that guy would not want to come and be a part of your program, be a part of
06:19your organization.
06:20And where you're willing to open up.
06:21I mean, the rabbit hole that I had somebody at eight take me down yesterday on Reddit was unbelievable with
06:27the one Pullian out there at JCU, the one Pullian over there in the building, Bill Pullian and who he
06:33selected.
06:34Like, it's all the cosmic tumblers are clicking in place with everybody here.
06:39And I go, yeah, what if Cooper just went, nah, nah, not for my son.
06:43Nah, he'll go back and he'll play with Sark another year.
06:46Or, you know what, maybe Miami will be a better situation for him.
06:50Maybe, Troy Aitman's with Miami, right?

06:56I think they got Marino down there in some sort of a capacity still.
06:59All right, I got two quarterbacks down there.
07:00What are you guys putting together?
07:04It's as crazy as it's been.
07:07And soon enough, like, yeah, you want to turn your attention to somebody who you're just curious about, even if
07:12you don't necessarily think he's going to be good.
07:14That's fine.
07:15So you're curious about Sanders.
07:17And more than likely, it probably ain't going to go very well or any much better than what – I
07:22can't see how it can go worse than what we saw on Sunday.
07:24But it might just be marginally better than what we've seen on Sunday, and then we move on fine.
07:30But then all of a sudden, if you've been so bad that they don't want to be around you, that's
07:35real tough for a fan base to take.
07:37So you have to make this as good of a situation as possible.
07:40And as odd as it is, that's half the reason that I think you held on to the guy that
07:46the fans can't stand.
07:48Because if you cut him, the penalty that you don't pay, it's not real money.
07:55Yeah, the penalty that you have in dead cap, it's like, hey, if you go out and you get Arch
07:59Manning – I'll use him as an example, Dante Moore, CJ Carr, whoever you want to throw in there, right?
08:05You go out and you get Arch Manning and go, we have this much, we're going to go get your
08:07free agents.
08:08You don't like the coach, we'll find you a new head coach.
08:10Money is not an option here, we don't care.
08:12You don't like who's running the program, we'll find somebody else to run the program.

08:16Now, I'm not sure how the NFL operates with that in terms of percentages and things like that when it
08:21comes to a piece of the pie.
08:22Yeah, you don't want to copy the Bulmer method with the Clippers.
08:25You don't want to go that far.
08:26But the NBA, they hire guys who are dads, they hire uncles and aunts and all the other stuff.
08:33You can certainly go ahead and do what you want to do in the NFL.
08:36If it's not within the rules or written down in the rules, fine, go ahead and do it.

08:41And what team, like the team that guaranteed a full contract to a guy that wasn't a very popular figure,
08:48what would stop them from doing any of those things that I just said?
08:52They will literally do whatever it takes.
08:53Nothing.
08:54Funny thing that materialized over the weekend after the Arch game.
08:59Because the first half happened and he was obviously struggling.
09:02And by the end of the game, I just, I was like, I think it's going to be so clear
09:06that, you know, over time, he'll be a good NFL quarterback.
09:09But it's, you know, they're prospects.
09:10That's what we do.
09:11We project on these things.
09:12And plenty of people disagreed.
09:14The amount of people telling me that he can't read a defense, therefore, there's no chance that he's going to
09:21be good in the NFL.
09:22And I just, I laugh.
09:24He has just started his 17th career game in college.
09:30Yeah, he's probably not ready to start for an NFL team today.
09:33He gets a whole season to play and maybe a whole other season the following year.
09:37Like, I've never heard people be so definitive about guys in college two weeks into a season.
09:44Well, it depends on who we have to prop up.
09:46Because, you know, I've taken what you've said to heart.
09:48I got, so I didn't tell anybody.
09:50I got ripped yesterday after the show by all you guys in this room because I don't want to do
09:54a top five.
09:55I don't, I have a watch list of quarterbacks that we have.
09:58We bring it out every Friday.
10:00You have yours that you consider a ranking.
10:02That's okay.
10:03I don't want to do it.
10:04Because I just don't feel like it's that in those terms.
10:06Like, I feel comfortable.
10:09By the end of the year, I think I'm going to feel comfortable with one guy using the highest pick
10:13we have.
10:14And if the pick's number one overall, then it's a done deal.
10:17Away we go.
10:18If the pick ends up being number three, then I probably have to make myself,
10:20all right, I really like this guy, but we can't get this guy.
10:24Do we take then, can I think that this guy is going to be a very good NFL quarterback in
10:30this class?
10:31Like, you have Dante Moore.
10:33He goes number one overall to the Jets.
10:35All right, the Jets got Dante Moore.
10:37Who can we take?
10:38Like, there's a diminishing thing that goes there when it comes to those guys.
10:44I don't want to just turn into, well, he can't read defenses, so he sucks.
10:47We have to take this guy.
10:47I think it's too, I think you're putting yourself in too much of a corner.
10:52My point is, yeah, none of these guys, no college quarterbacks are reading defenses at an NFL level.
10:56It's why they're in college, and we're two games in to their season.
11:00And some of these guys, it's only their second full year starting games.
11:04Like, that's very different from when we look at Dylan Gabriel, who had how many starts in college?
11:09Shador, if you add up the Colorado and the Jackson State, like, if you add up all those things,
11:15and even then, you're not anticipating that guys are going to be fully formed figures.
11:21That's not how it works.
11:22Now, some guys are better than others, and the aptitude is something that you've got to talk to coaches
11:27and see who's got an aptitude, just like any student who's applying for their colleges.
11:33Like, you're not sending them to Harvard because they're ready day one to be at Harvard Business School.
11:38Like, the whole point is a projection on these things.
11:42And I just, I thought it was funny over the weekend.
11:45People saw Dante Moore lose and then Arch Manning have that bad half, and they're like,
11:48nope, these guys are disqualified from being good quarterbacks in the NFL.
11:52And I'm like, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
11:54Like, Patrick Mahomes fully admits that he wasn't ready to read an NFL defense until year three in the NFL.
12:02So, what if we disqualified Patrick Mahomes because he couldn't read defenses in college?
12:06That's so silly.
12:07Whoever your head coach is, and that might be up for grabs depending on who's available as your quarterback going
12:12into next year,
12:13whoever that head coach is has to find a way to get him over that edge
12:16because you've got to try to start to win as soon as you possibly can.
12:19And they're going to want to start him as soon as they possibly can, whether it's good, bad, ugly, whatever
12:23it is.
12:24So, not the Raiders.
12:25The Raiders are waiting.
12:27And I support them in that.
12:28I think the tide is turning because I didn't believe this, you know, a few years ago when it was
12:33the Baker Mayfield situation.
12:34I'm like, get him in, get him in, get him in.
12:36And now, you know, all these years later, I'm like, yeah, it kind of makes sense what they're doing with
12:39men knows.
12:40We're going to have to fight that as well.
12:42Because Cam Ward might already be ruined.
12:44And maybe he wasn't good to begin with.
12:45I don't know.
12:46He might already be ruined.
12:47Like, the Titans, right now, I would project them to take a quarterback with their first pick.
12:51Oh, God, don't.
12:52No, I can't be in competition.
12:54I can't be in competition for more if we're going to go down this road.

12:57Titans got to get the nose up on the thing.

13:01I can't have them in the – I know the teams that I'm going to be in the mix with

13:06I can't have them going in.
13:07But, no, going back to what you were saying, like, yeah, those guys are going to have to be prepared.
13:11You're going to have to get a veteran there to help them out.
13:13And, again, but with these guys, you're going to have to figure out a way that they feel comfortable in
13:18choosing you.
13:20Because I don't think that this isn't going to play out.
13:23And, by the way, you can always go back and end up for the good.
13:26Like, Trinidad Chambliss fought so hard to go back to college.
13:29Well, you know what?
13:32At first I thought he's just a college guy if he wants to go back to college so badly.
13:36But you have how many games to tape from Ferris State to Ole Miss and everything?
13:40And you're still out there executing at a high level?
13:44It's early in the season.
13:46And he'll play better defenses.
13:48But if you're executing at a high level and you've played that much college football, all right, maybe you can
13:52execute at a high level.
13:53And after you've played that much college football, come play for my team.
13:56Like, I'm as open-minded as I think I've ever been when it comes to a quarterback situation.
14:01And usually I'm terrified of these guys and I'm closing my shop up very, very quickly.
14:06But I do think that this is going to be a concern here as the time goes by.
14:10The more type of losses like this, the more bad publicity you get, it just plays into the heads of
14:18people who I can only sell so much when I go,
14:21guys, if you're good, the fans here, they're going to love you forever.
14:24The fans are going to love you forever no matter where you go if you're good.
14:27They'll buy you drinks in Tampa.
14:29They'll buy you drinks in San Diego, even though they don't even have a team.
14:32They'll buy you drinks in L.A., just like they buy you drinks in here in Cleveland.
14:35And I could say it means something different because you could take a franchise that was once great and resurrect
14:39them.
14:42It might just be an easier sell somewhere else.
14:44So all these people who advocate tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank.
14:48Yeah, now guys have options.
