Shan, RJ, and Bobby broke down the latest draft news following the blockbuster Dexter Lawrence trade and its ripple effects across the division. They discussed the Giants' new draft capital at picks 5 and 10, who they might target, and how these scenarios could ultimately force the Cowboys to trade up from pick 12 to secure a blue-chip defender.
Transcript
00:00I'm going to start off with, thanks to all the Tolo's sending us all the very latest in terms of
00:04the rumors and the intel.
00:07I think the latest one is C.S. T. Rainey's always doing it. Tolo D. as well.
00:13We'll go with Todd McShay and his latest takeaways.
00:18Of course, the Giants already trading Dexter Lawrence to get the number 10 pick.
00:24Florio's the only one. I don't think he's reporting it.
00:27But everyone mentions things for a reason at this point in time.
00:31He said, now the Giants have the ammo to move up if they want.
00:35And I was like, oh, who is a player they would possibly want to move up for?
00:41So Florio's the only one talking about moving up with 5 and 10 now.
00:44And how's it going to affect the Cowboys?
00:47McShay on the Giants now.
00:49If you want Sonny Stiles, you have to get him at 5 because he's going 7.
00:53If Stiles is sitting there at 7, I'm told on pretty damn good authority that that is Dan Quinn's guy.
01:02And then you'll see all the Bobby Wagner highlight packages on the draft broadcast.
01:07So Sonny Stiles, if not at 5, 7.
01:12Yeah, I mean, I could see that being somebody that they like.
01:16I still think there are scenarios where a player gets to them that they would just be like,
01:24we can love Sonny Stiles all we want.
01:26This guy's here. We're taking him.
01:27So I don't know that Stiles would be there.
01:29There's no doubt about it.
01:30Now, the Stiles thing may just be with the projection of McShay thinks certain people will be gone,
01:34like Love or whoever else.
01:36And if that's the case, then yeah, maybe they would snatch him up.
01:38But I still think the thing that's been consistently out there that I've heard is just love is No. 1
01:44for them.
01:44Like, that's the dream scenario.
01:46And then if they don't get him for Washington.
01:49And so if Love were on the board and Stiles were on the board, that would still keep Stiles pushing
01:52down the board, I think.
01:53Oh, baby.
01:53Ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha-ha!
01:58Poverty franchises keep poverty-tine.
02:01Whatever the plural of poverty is.
02:04Yeah, I don't think we've talked about defense enough with Washington.
02:07It doesn't make sense for them not to.
02:10Their defense is not good.
02:12Dan Quinn is supposed to be the backbone.
02:14Like, to me, Sonny Stiles makes all the sense in the world over Love at running back.
02:20Yeah, I would think so, too.
02:21I would just also see them just say, we need weapons.
02:25And we don't know consistently what Jaden Daniels' health is going to be like.
02:29And he's just, Adam Peters apparently loves him.
02:32Just the same way that Adam Peters fell in love with him and was part of the trade to send
02:35a bunch of capital to get Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco.
02:38So McShay, when the Dexter Lawrence trade broke, he wrote this.
02:43This gets Harbaugh his defensive captain and chess piece.
02:46Stiles is what I'm hearing, but don't rule out downs.
02:49And he gets Dart, the perimeter weapon he needs opposite of neighbors.
02:53I'm hearing Jordan Tyson is their guy.
02:56And then, on the ringer, McShay talked about the interest in the nuclear weapon that could be used against the
03:04Cowboys, Stiles, and downs to New York.
03:08I had heard from one executive that I really trust, and that is dialed in.
03:12Giants are going defense with that pick.
03:14I predict Stiles with that, and it would just be slightly ahead of downs.
03:18I think it's going to be one of two players.
03:23Look, I think it's really hard to get off the fact that a guy who had Matt, you know, he
03:32drafted Matt Elam in the first round, Kyle Hamilton in the first round, and he's the same franchise as Edward.
03:38Now, granted, we don't know if he was in charge of the picks or not.
03:41There.
03:41But, I mean, I find it hard to believe that the head coach, especially John Harbaugh at that stage, when
03:48they drafted Kyle Hamilton, he was a decade in.
03:51He had some say, I'm sure.
03:53Yeah, but think about who those two GMs have been.
03:54It's two of the more, like, the stronger evaluators who are thought to be stronger roster.
04:00Like, I don't know that I see Harbaugh overruling to Costa and Newsom.
04:03But he may, they may have been in a line.
04:05They may have been aligned, right?
04:06We don't know.
04:07We have no idea.
04:07And then also the same guy who was in that organization with Ed Reed would not, that he would pass,
04:13to think he would pass on the best, if you call him a generational safety, whatever you want to call
04:17him that.
04:18So let's just believe the hype that the Giants also love Jordan Tyson.
04:24How crazy is it to think of Tyson at five?
04:27Or let me insert Florio's tidbit and say you take Stiles at five, you're saying Tyson probably doesn't get to
04:37ten, so maybe the Giants then move up from ten to one of the willing teams above Kansas City and
04:45New Orleans.
04:45Yeah, I think Kansas City...
04:48Because on Saturday when we were sitting there saying, you're like, Tyson ain't making it.
04:51You were thinking Tyson at five could be in play.
04:55Because Tyson goes nine, I think.
04:57Now, if Spencer Fano is still on the board, that's who the Chiefs really like, apparently.
05:02And McShay said, I'm told on really good authority, Andy Reid is hellbent on fixing the offensive line.
05:07Mention Fano as an option.
05:08So if Fano's on the board, that's apparently who they like.
05:10The thought is that Fano won't be there.
05:13And so if Fano's not there and Maui Noa, that would mean Maui Noa's gone too, then at that point
05:18it would be...
05:18Everything I've heard is Kansas City has Fano.
05:21It would be one for Fano, two Jordan Tyson.
05:24So assuming Maui Noa and Fano get snatched up, then what you're looking at is that Tyson would go at
05:30nine.
05:30And then they wouldn't be able to get him at ten.
05:32So the Giants would have to take Tyson at five.
05:35Now, if they took Tyson at five, or if they did a jump like you're talking about, they went ten
05:39and then they went up,
05:40that might then push Fano down to Kansas City.
05:42And then they would just take him there.
05:43Do you think the Giants' ultimate scenario is Stiles and Tyson?
05:49Um, yeah, that would make some sense.
05:52I personally, and I talked to somebody over there over the weekend, they were talking about that they thought if
05:57it was them,
05:58they weren't making the calls, but if it was them, they would go down Stiles.
06:02Just throw it, throw a defense and just go...
06:05That would be bad.
06:06Just look at it and go like, let's go super solid.
06:09Like, these are high floor players.
06:11Let's just attack the defense with these two.
06:12I still think one of these combos, it's going to be an offensive player.
06:16Marino or Tyson.
06:17One of those, I would think.
06:18You need to check with your Portland guy on what the Giants are doing.
06:21You know, well, I did.
06:22So in the past, I have checked.
06:23My Seahawks guy did tell me that the Giants prefer downs over Stiles.
06:27Oh!
06:29Man, I love the chaos.
06:32More McShay on the Jets.
06:34My understanding last week, they had not decided.
06:37People are leaning Bailey.
06:39My info now, it's Arval Reese at two.
06:41Boy, Daniel Jeremiah has been very consistent, though, that he thinks it's Bailey.
06:46Which is kind of surprising to me because there are so many people who are right there in New York
06:53who keep saying Reese.
06:54Man, the Cardinals, they feel like the big turning point in this whole thing.
06:59They want to get the hell out of there.
07:01Everyone is screaming that they want to move down.
07:05McShay said, I've been saying there's a voice in Arizona that wants Jeremiah love.
07:09Can you imagine the Cardinals went and took Jeremiah love?
07:12I mean, actually, sad to say, I can imagine it.
07:14I'm hearing that that voice carries more weight than I thought.
07:18I'm told if Arizona sticks, it's love.
07:21I'm also told they desperately want to move out.
07:24Oh, my gosh.
07:25See, now, what if?
07:28And McShay on love, if he doesn't go three to Arizona, he's going four to the Titans.
07:33Okay, now, if Arizona takes love, the Titans, who would the Titans take?
07:40Because what are the chances the Giants luck into Bailey?
07:46Oh, my God.
07:49Oh, my God.
07:51Is there a chance Bailey would slide past Tennessee?
07:55Yeah.
07:56There's a chance.
07:57Bailey's got some off-the-field stuff.
08:00Oh.
08:00Oh, well.
08:01Whoa.
08:02Exclusive, exclusive over here.
08:04I don't think anybody's thought it was going to harm him.
08:11Legal?
08:12No, just...
08:14He's got off-the-field.
08:16Oh!
08:16So...
08:19We'll check a break.
08:20He has been...
08:21I'm just saying...
08:22He did that a month ago.
08:23Yeah.
08:23Teams have flagged him.
08:25So, now, I don't think everybody's thought, like, yeah, but he's such a talent, he's going
08:29to go where he goes.
08:30Oh, man.
08:30I love the red flag.
08:30Now, if he...
08:31But if he starts sliding, I think it then says, oh, okay, that bothered teams is what
08:36it is.
08:37So, if he were to get pushed down the board and he...
08:40Basically, if he were to get past three, if David Bailey was available at four or later,
08:45that says, oh, okay, some teams didn't like what they knew here.
08:49But then I think you're talking about Dallas.
08:52Dallas goes, like, pick up the phone, start calling.
08:54Yeah.
08:55Because now it gets in a range where you're a little more comfortable and you can potentially
08:58go up and get him.
08:59See?
08:59And then we're partying.
09:01Because David Bailey's a stud.
09:02No, no, I'd see it.
09:04A dumb team picks up the phone and starts calling.
09:06Hell no!
09:06Why?
09:07A smart team picks up the phone and starts releasing things to the media in the middle
09:11of the draft that he's got even more off-the-field problems and he just slides to you without
09:15moving up and using any of your assets.
09:18McShay talked about the two tackles right around pick 20, maybe a little earlier.
09:24Blake Miller and Max...
09:26How do you say Max is last?
09:27Momu.
09:28How do you say it?
09:29Oh, no, Caleb Lom was the other one.
09:32No, it's like I, he, and it's whatever.
09:35It's the Arizona State guy.
09:36Yeah.
09:37Blake Miller...
09:37Max I.
09:38Max I and Blake Miller around pick 20, maybe a little bit earlier.
09:43What about Ty Simpson with the Cardinals?
09:45There's some information out there where if you're Arizona and you like Simpson, you may
09:49have to be aggressive.
09:51McShay suggests that the Rams, maybe, you know, this wide receiver stuff to LA is being
09:58a little bit oversold, thanks to Panthers like Thienemann along with Sean McVay.
10:04Ihanashor is the name on the Arizona State tackle, by the way.
10:08All right.
10:09So, Washington is absolutely Carnell Tate over Jordan Tyson.
10:13Yep.
10:14If it's a receiver, this is Todd McShay.
10:16A lot of the Jordan Tyson stuff feels like smoke, a good agent.
10:19Two weeks ago, he was free-falling, and now suddenly, he's the best wide receiver.
10:23It's probably somewhere in the middle, 10 to 20.
10:25So, thanks to all the Tolos sending us the transcript, Jermon McCoy from McShay's Understanding
10:32is not in a top 12 conversation.
10:35Bottom half of the first.
10:37Thienemann is a hot name, has heard Keldrick Falk for Dallas at 20, wants to move back from
10:4220, maybe Arizona.
10:45All right.
10:46Steelers and Eagles will be surprised if both don't come away with an offensive tackle.
10:51Expects a wild run of tackle, seven of them.
10:54When it's done, it's done.
10:56Teams will trade for them.
10:58Cowboys sitting in a good spot for that.
11:02Man, there's...
11:02I love this.
11:04I love all the rumors.
11:05It's a great time of year.
11:06I would say, yeah.
11:08So, on the Washington front, I mentioned here last week, I had heard love was the dream.
11:15Carnell Tate was the likeliest endgame for them.
11:17And so, Tate over Tyson makes sense.
11:20I don't think the Tyson thing is smoke.
11:22I think the Tyson thing is people were late to the party of what the NFL thought.
11:25And the biggest question was not his ability.
11:28Everybody agreed his ability was off the charts.
11:30The question was how healthy was he.
11:32I mean, you've seen his highlights.
11:33You talk about Twitch?
11:34Yeah.
11:35You talk about shiftiness?
11:36These highlights that are coming out from his workout?
11:38You see...
11:39What you're seeing is...
11:40What we're finding out now is which teams are comfortable with him medically is all.
11:44I think is what you're seeing.
11:45And we're finding that there are teams near the top that are comfortable with him.
11:48He does not get past...
11:50Miami was there, too, with the Giants, with the general managers.
11:54Tyson doesn't fall out of the top, probably...
11:56I mean, I think his floor is probably nine.
11:59But he probably doesn't fall out.
12:01Barring unforeseen circumstances, I think 13, 14 is probably as low as he gets.
12:05And then a lot of people have been putting him, like, middle 20s.
12:08And that's just not where he's going.
12:10877-881-1053 in order to hit us up on the Frankel & Frankel text line here on DFW Sports
12:17Station.
12:18Adam Schefter saying at the start of our show,
12:21A.J. Brown likely to become a Patriot.
12:24And the Eagles may not stop there.
12:27Many around the league feel like Howie Roseman is looking at another move like he is apt to do.
12:33And the possibility mentioned here is Jonathan Greenard, the Vikings linebacker.
12:39Is it Grenard or Grenard?
12:41Grenard.
12:43Minnesota has been wanting a premium day-two pick for him.
12:47Philadelphia holds 54, 68, and 98 on day-two this year.
12:53Which would be more concerning.
12:56And it's in division, so they're not going to get him, I wouldn't guess.
12:59But would you be more concerned if Philly got Thibodeau or Grenard?
13:04Because I would imagine Thibodeau would be cheaper investment.
13:07So they would keep higher picks and have Thibodeau or give up higher capital and get Grenard,
13:12who's aging and some people wonder if he's just on the back end.
13:14I mean, I feel like Grenard would be a better player next year
13:18because Thibodeau I've thought of as a disappointment.
13:20But Thibodeau flashed.
13:22He did have a flash season.
13:24That feels like the kind of player who would figure it out if he went to Philly, which would suck.
13:27Right.
13:28Other trade candidates to watch for draft week.
13:31Anthony Richardson, Will Levis, Spencer Rattler, Kyle Pitts, Kenny Moore, we've talked about,
13:39Thibodeau, Keon Coleman in Buffalo, Brandon Ayuk, Mac Jones, never had his market heat up this offseason.
13:47Not expected to go anywhere.
13:49Don't you have to trade Keon Coleman?
13:51Yep.
13:51After the owner's just like, he sucks.
13:53That dude's so bad and nobody wanted him.
13:55It was just that crappy head coach we got rid of.
13:58There are people who believe that Jeremiah Love could go as high as three to Arizona
14:03and no lower than seven to Washington.
14:07Man.
14:07All right.
14:08There's growing chatter in league circles.
14:10Love is truly in play at the high end with Arizona.
14:13Ideally, they'd like to find a team willing to trade up so they can acquire more picks.
14:16There's been exploratory calls.
14:19But if the Cardinals hold on to their picks, some around the league believe they could pull an early draft
14:23surprise
14:23and select Love in a slot highly, slightly higher than he's been projected to go.
14:29I do think Dallas got one of those calls.
14:32I think Dallas got one of those calls from Arizona about like, hey, would y'all want to be a
14:37man?
14:37And I don't think, I don't think they, I think they've made it clear they don't want to go up
14:42that high.
14:43Well, you need Arizona to get really desperate and say, we cannot take this running back.
14:49That seems like a panic pick.
14:50Like, I have no, like.
14:52And we need them to take less on the dollar.
14:54Right.
14:54To be like, okay, we have to get out of it for something.
14:56You've got to get 70 cents on the dollar for that.
14:58Like, because otherwise it's like, dude, you're, you were so hell bent.
15:03Like it was the whole draft that was basically Reese or nobody that you were willing to take there.
15:08Or obviously Fernando, but Fernando's not going to be there.
15:10So like, and the Raiders aren't going to trade down from that.
15:13So it's like, you're just going to panic and take Jeremiah Love.
15:17That seems like a really bad, badly run organization.
15:23Like when the Lions took Gibbs, did they, did they have golf?
15:27Goff, they had golf.
15:28Yeah.
15:28They already had Montgomery.
15:30Yeah.
15:30When the Falcons took Bichon, they have, they had, did they have cousins or Pennix?
15:37No, no.
15:40Did they, Matt and Matt had already retired.
15:42I don't even know who they had then.
15:44I don't know.
15:45LaFleur is like, it was the quarterback that got drafted like in the fourth.
15:49I think Atlanta had him for a second.
15:51It was done.
15:52Dang it.
15:54Good college player.
15:55Can't remember it.
15:56Anyway, I'm trying to, it'd be surprising to me if the Cardinals took, LaFleur's never
16:01been part of these organizations that had like ridiculous investment in running backs.
16:07Ritter.
16:07Yep.
16:08Ritter.
16:09Yep.
16:09And they had Heineke.
16:10That was in 2023.
16:12Ew.
16:12Ritter and Heineke.
16:13And the previous year was Mariota and Ritter.
16:15LaFleur, the new Cardinals head coach.
16:17Yeah, Michael LaFleur.
16:18He typically, I mean, he's been in Green Bay.
16:20He's been with the Jets.
16:21He's been with the 49ers, but he's with the 49ers pre-McCaffrey.
16:25So like, he's never been part of one of these organizations that has shown a willingness
16:28to spend a lot of capital on a running back.
16:30So that'd be surprising.
16:31Schefter talking about Bobby, the commander's love for love.
16:36The commanders at seven would seem to be his floor.
16:38Last spring, Washington planned to pursue Aaron Jones before he went back to Minnesota.
16:46Washington added White and Ford to join Kroski Merritt, but the team still does not have
16:53much money invested in the position.
16:54If the opportunity presents itself, some expect the commanders would rush to turn in the card
16:59for love, giving them the Jaden Daniel combo.
17:03Woo!
17:03That's been the dream scenario.
17:04And that's part of the equation.
17:05You probably need to get guys pushed down to you at 12 that you want.
17:08Would be, you'd have to do that.
17:10Unless, like I said, there's other things that push down the board to you and then you
17:14start going, all right, well, we're just going up ourselves.
17:17Well, there it is with all the latest draft intel.
