00:00Bobby Bell and Corey Majors trying to have them talk me off the ledge as the news broke
00:05that the freaking Cincinnati Bengals gave up the number 10 pick in the NFL draft
00:13straight up for disgruntled defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
00:18Not a two, not just someone, number 10 giving the Giants all the top 10 control
00:26with a selection also at five.
00:28There's been one time, one time, one player in NFL history that's been dealt for more than this
00:35in terms of a higher first round draft pick, and that was Randy Moss to the Raiders.
00:40So the two best players by trade capital in the history of the NFL apparently are prime Randy Moss
00:48and Dexter Lawrence, who people are asking, is he totally still the same guy?
00:54That's number 10 overall.
00:55And the fact that the reports out there were that the Giants were hesitant, like initially said no,
01:02that tells me that these are two terrible franchises is what that says to me.
01:07It's the same Giants team that if you want to be a little, I understand it's Harbaugh now,
01:13but it's the same Giants team that had, what, two picks in the top six a few years ago
01:16and messed up both of them?
01:18They didn't get Thibodeau or Evan Neal to be very good, and so I'm just crossing my fingers
01:23that ultimately this will be the organization showing how terrible they are again.
01:27The reaction out of New York.
01:28Connor Hughes talked to several coaches around the NFL.
01:31They're stunned the Giants got what they did.
01:33All agree, very good player, but not worth 10.
01:36Age, injury, and concerns regarding his conditioning pointed out.
01:40Also, that you need to limit the number of snaps he plays to maximize his production.
01:45Really, just a one-position player.
01:47Needless to say, great return for New York.
01:50A lot of the articles out there were saying the Giants anticipated they would get potentially a second.
01:56Like, they wanted to ask for a first, but they thought a high second is potentially what they were going
02:00to get in return,
02:01and that they were stunned the Bengals were willing to give them 10.
02:05And, boy, you want to see meltdown?
02:08Go find Cincinnati Bengals users on social media who are not happy.
02:13There's 11 of them.
02:14All 11 of them are steaming mad.
02:17They are furious with this trade.
02:19I mean, look, if they really think that this is – because I do not think the Bengals are close
02:24to a title contend.
02:25I guess, like, if Burrow's healthy and the defense plays well, then they should be because they've been there before.
02:31But if you think that this is, like, a shortened window, you know, it's not the craziest thing in the
02:37world.
02:37I wouldn't have done it.
02:39But I could absolutely see, like, if you're like, all right, we need now.
02:43We need a defense player now.
02:44We're wasting Joe Burrow's prime.
02:45Well, you –
02:47You still overpaid, though.
02:48If you really want to be a player, you add Lawrence to a re-sign Hendrickson.
02:53Right.
02:53But you let Hendrickson go, you know, it's like the Ravens trying to sell us on.
02:58We're going to add Crosby and Hendrickson.
02:59Okay, if you believe that, that's like, all right, let's go way over the top and let's try to end
03:04this and get a ring.
03:06You add Lawrence to a Hendrickson, and instead you swap him outside for inside.
03:11Well, it's Boye Moffitt.
03:12You know, they saved $12 million and added him instead.
03:16If Dallas – if we were to come in here this morning and Dallas had traded away pick 20 and
03:21had pick 12 still,
03:22but they tried to pick 20 for Dexter Lawrence, I'd be melting down this morning on the air.
03:27That'd be – like, and they have two first-round picks.
03:29I can't imagine giving up –
03:30Because they have Quinnen and everyone else inside or – no, just because it's 20 for Lawrence.
03:36I just wouldn't want to give up – no, if they didn't have Quinnen, I still wouldn't want to give
03:39up one of those picks for Dexter Lawrence.
03:42Why?
03:43Because he's good, but he's also –
03:45But he's willing to give up 20 for Crosby.
03:46Because Crosby is an edge rusher.
03:48Like, I'm going to take an edge rusher over the defensive tackle, especially one who has played essentially just head
03:52-up, nose-guard,
03:53a soul-crit.
03:54But to be the Bengals and your only first-round pick, and it's 10 spots ahead of that one that
04:00I'm theoretically talking about,
04:01I cannot believe how bad if the Bengals orchestrated this.
04:07If Quinnen is a 10, what is Dexter Lawrence?
04:12Well, Dexter Lawrence is a pick 10, I guess.
04:14But the –
04:15He was a 10.
04:16Yeah, he was a 10 at one point.
04:18He's probably eight and a half, nine.
04:22Look, there's two parts to this.
04:24The part that some Cowboy fans took issue with when it came to my reaction is the Giants doing something
04:31great.
04:32That part stings.
04:33The real part that we're about to get into, I could be talked into this, maybe not screwing you,
04:40but I wanted the Giants to keep Dexter Lawrence, and I've been saying this the past three weeks.
04:45I feel like I'm the only one that came out and said, all right, for a team that's trying to
04:49get it going with the frat bros in the backfield,
04:52brand-new head coach, keep Dexter Lawrence.
04:54Go ahead.
04:55I don't want to see them trade Lawrence for any type of draft capital.
05:00And for damn sure, not this.
05:03So now the Giants, and I've got to listen to all the meatballs on the group text, they go ahead
05:08and get rid of a disgruntled guy.
05:10He signs one year, $28 million, so he's basically under Bengal control for the next three years.
05:15So my initial reaction was, dang it, the Giants did something absolutely fantastic, and now we get to reality.
05:23A 5-10, and whether that screws you more.
05:27That is, that's the real thing to talk about.
05:30You know, for the 3-2-5, Styles will either go 5 or 7 now, you know, or maybe 10.
05:37Just trade back, distract this room with the Giants having two picks.
05:40So let's start off with this.
05:42Let's start off with swapping Cincy at 10 and the Giants at 10.
05:47Because the initial feel from a lot of TOLOs right now is, this is a good thing for you because
05:54everyone had mocked and locked Cincy into a defensive player.
05:58Yeah, so any equation that gets the player pushed down to you that you wanted at 12, any equation involved
06:07assuming Cincinnati was taking one of them.
06:09And so...
06:10Delane, Downs.
06:12Delane, Downs, Styles.
06:13Somebody was going to get snatched up by Cincinnati in that equation.
06:18So, that doesn't...
06:19You're still looking at the same math.
06:21Assuming that the Giants, one of their picks is...
06:24I think you look at a possibly better math.
06:26So, assuming you're...
06:27It just depends on who your pick is for the Giants.
06:30Like, if the Giants are taking Maui Noah, or if they're taking Jordan Tyson as part of this, that would
06:35make it so that you're not really down a pick in that instance.
06:39You still have to...
06:40And whatever trade-up numbers we've talked about, if they were to go that way,
06:43we've talked about 3, 6, and 9, all those picks are ahead of where the Giants are now picking at
06:4710.
06:47So, it's still the same trade-up spots.
06:49So, in a lot of ways, it's not a...
06:50It doesn't...
06:51It doesn't really do anything to your draft strategy, I don't think.
06:55No, because we've seen...
06:56All these mocks have had either some form of Downs, Styles, Wide Receiver, O-line to the Giants at 5.
07:03Or Love.
07:05Yeah.
07:06I've seen Love.
07:06We have seen that, yeah.
07:07So, it's been all over the place.
07:09They could decide that they want to get one of everything, or as much of everything as they can.
07:16They could decide they want to go all defense.
07:18You know, but the best-case scenario is the board falls the way it does, and they wind up taking
07:24an O-lineman and a Wide Receiver.
07:25Yes.
07:26That's your absolute dream scenario.
07:28What is the likelihood of that?
07:29I don't know.
07:30But if they do that, chances are the guys that you want are gone anyway.
07:35And the worst-case, nuclear option?
07:36So, the nuclear is that they take Styles and Downs, right?
07:40And that's all I can think about Saturday night.
07:43And the Giants are going to screw you out of it.
07:45And what I'm thinking, like, hey, look, maybe they take O-line and Wide Receiver.
07:50Well, if they take O-line at 5, that's one thing.
07:53They're picking that.
07:54But if they go back and they take Wide Receiver at 10, to me, that might mean that Styles and
07:59Downs are gone anyway.
08:02I don't know.
08:03I don't know.
08:03Right?
08:04I mean, it's like, why else wouldn't they have taken them?
08:07Because all the positional value, number one, like, there's still people saying, go ahead, take a safety at 7.
08:16He's not Ed Reed.
08:18Go ahead, take a linebacker that no one trades up for.
08:22Someone said, oh, who's the best linebacker in the league today?
08:26Would any team trade a first-round pick for that person?
08:29So people are trying to justify in their own minds like that.
08:32But the loudest noise, the number one riser in this entire selection process is Jordan Tyson right now, the Wide
08:42Receiver from Arizona State.
08:44And the Giants are one of the teams, along with the Cowboys, in attendance.
08:49Apparently, Giants brass was spotted with Tyson at dinner as well.
08:53Yeah, they go to dinner, and then the next day, the trade is pulled off.
08:56And there's people connecting dots here who just say, like, that could be, that would be a player that would
09:01be of interest, you would think.
09:03That they would want to use one of those picks, right?
09:05Throw something at defense, throw something at the offense.
09:07But maybe the thing they throw at the offense is Maui Noah at five.
09:11It just doesn't seem very Harbaugh-y to draft Jordan Tyson over offensive line, linebacker, maybe even safety.
09:19No, it doesn't.
09:20Or running back.
09:21They did spend, you know, in Harbaugh's tenure there, they did spend five first-round or first picks,
09:28sometimes their first pick was in the second round, on Wide Receiver-Tight End combo, you know, on a pass
09:34catcher.
09:34He was there a long time.
09:35And he was there 18-0, but, you know, that's almost, you know, five out of 18, that's 30%
09:41of your time.
09:42I've been surprised that there's been chatter about them being in on receiver anyway, though.
09:46Yeah.
09:46Because to me, it's like, out of all the things they need to fix, like, they do have neighbors at
09:50the very least.
09:51And so it's a deep receiver draft.
09:53I think, okay, get the best capital used on these certain positions, and then if we need a number two
09:59to go alongside neighbors,
10:00we'll take somebody on, like, day two at some point.
10:02How are y'all reading this out on the fan text?
10:04877-881-1053.
10:06We'll let you know if and when the YouTube gets back and working.
10:10Please head on over to the Odyssey app instead.
10:13You also have the Twitch stream available.
10:16877-881-1053.
10:18On whether this thing, this screws you, helps you, with Cincy being swapped out a 10, or no effect.
10:26So, the draft now has six teams with two first-round picks and six teams with zero first-round picks.
10:35All the teams with two firsts missed the playoffs last year.
10:40Jets, Giants, Cleveland, Kansas City, Miami, and us.
10:45No firsts?
10:47Indy, Cincy, Jacksonville, Denver, Green Bay, and Atlanta.
10:52Can I walk through really quickly, for anybody who's having trouble seeing how this would potentially just be a net
11:00neutral real quick,
11:01how it would essentially not affect your odds to get one of these guys?
11:07So, if they like delaying styles or downs like you were just talking about,
11:10the idea would be if you want to guarantee getting one of those guys to you,
11:13you need to get through the first nine picks where those aren't taken.
11:15And a lot of people go, well, how's that even possible?
11:17Because we've heard how highly regarded all these people are.
11:20Well, Titans and Giants have been very murky about access and who they're hot on.
11:27And we've thought we've gotten it, but it's not been clear.
11:30So, the best case scenario to get those three down to you has always been the Raiders would take Mendoza.
11:35Then you would say number two would be, let's just say, Reese.
11:38Bailey goes three.
11:40Four would be Jeremiah Love to the Titans.
11:43Five, then the Giants go offensive line.
11:45They go Francis Malinoa.
11:46Or, with some of this buzz, maybe they go Jordan Tyson or Carnell Tate.
11:49But six, we say the Browns then take the highest remaining offensive line, Spencer Fano.
11:55The Commanders at that point would take Carnell Tate.
11:57The Saints would probably take Reuben Bain or Makai Lemon.
12:01Nine would be the Chiefs at that point taking Jordan Tyson in previous connections.
12:05And then the Bengals at 10 were going to take somebody.
12:07And then 11, it didn't matter what the Dolphins would do.
12:09They leave you with one.
12:10So, whenever we're talking about the switch out doesn't really matter.
12:13It's because if the Giants are going to use five or ten on somebody that's not one of those three,
12:19then you're still wishing for the same thing, which is only one of them going in the first ten.
12:24The other thing we have to account for, and maybe we should do it this week,
12:27is we have a bevy of insiders joining us in studio, over the phone.
12:33Big extra plug, ticket giveaway, 7 o'clock expressway all week long.
12:36Who loves Downs and Styles behind us?
12:41Because now let's take into account Cincy willingness to trade,
12:46New York Giant willingness to trade out of five or ten.
12:50So, like, who loves Caleb Downs as much as the Cowboys reportedly do?
12:55And you've got to worry about that factor now.
12:57Now, the Giants might say, we're a bad football team.
13:00Let's turn two picks into three picks.
13:02Let's turn two picks into four picks.
13:04And we haven't talked about being leapfrogged for Downs from anyone behind.
