00:00Adam Schefter has just dropped his Week of the Draft Intel column.
00:05Number one, expectation is A.J. Brown gets dealt to New England post-June 1 move.
00:10But here's the big one for us.
00:12One long-shot scenario to keep an eye on.
00:15And, of course, the stupid Bengals gave the New York Giants pick 10 for Dexter Lawrence.
00:22So New York has 5 and 10.
00:23There are draft surprises every year with players going in spots no one forecasted.
00:28Here's one, depending on how the first few picks play out, that has generated some speculation in a handful of
00:34front offices.
00:36The Jets take David Bailey at 2, which many people, including Daniel Jeremiah, believe will happen.
00:43If the Cardinals then take Jeremiah Love, which appears to be getting some traction,
00:50and if the Titans then take Sonny Stiles at 4, which is one of their options,
00:57Arvell, Reese, or Bailey, if the Jets take Reese at 2.
01:02And that's Schefter saying or Bailey, not you, right?
01:04That's Schefter.
01:05Okay.
01:05If Bailey or Reese fall to 5, it would suddenly be very tempting for a team like the Cowboys
01:13to potentially trade up for a top-tier pass rusher.
01:17Again, the draft would have to go a specific way for this scenario to play out.
01:22But two teams raised the scenario this weekend, wondering if it somehow could unfold on Thursday.
01:30It's exactly the type of scenario that makes the draft so compelling.
01:34Well, Schefter does not factor in here.
01:36You think the Giants are going to trade back with the Cowboys?
01:38Are you kidding me?
01:39I mean, the Cowboys pay enough.
01:42There's a tax.
01:43The Cowboys pay enough, but he doesn't factor that in that the Giants own that pick.
01:49Here's what he's not factoring in, I think.
01:50First off, lovely to see Schefter's a Tolo.
01:53After, I think, last Thursday and Friday, we said Cowboys would trade up only if one of these scenarios happened.
01:58Second, Reese would not fall like that.
02:03I don't believe.
02:04Reese would hit 4.
02:06If Tennessee's taking Stiles, they're not taking Stiles over Reese.
02:09I don't think.
02:10If they don't feel comfortable with Bailey, for whatever reasons, would push Bailey down the board,
02:16that's what could then factor into where a team like the Giants may pass,
02:20and then at 6 with Cleveland wanting to bail out, you could potentially go up there.
02:24That's what I would say.
02:25In fact, there was a mock I saw.
02:27Whose was it?
02:28Nate Tice had a mock draft.
02:30And who was that?
02:31He works for Yahoo's, got a lot of strong connections in the league, used to be at the Athletic.
02:36But he's a guy who does a lot of tape study and talks to a lot of different people in
02:40the league.
02:40He was, we mentioned earlier, he had said that he has heard and believes already that the A.J.
02:47Brown trade's done and that he's already been traded to New England, similar to what you've talked about.
02:52He has David Bailey going 7th to the Commanders right now.
02:56Wow.
02:56And so if Cleveland wants to bail out at 6 and Bailey has slid, that would make some sense.
03:03And you get to keep him away from Washington, but what's it going to take to go from 12 to
03:086?
03:10Potentially it would be 12 and 20 for probably 6 and you would hope 39, but there's been some speculation
03:16it would have to be 6 and 70.
03:19Draft Day trades, by the way, over the past few years.
03:22Round 1, 5 last year.
03:25The year before that, 5.
03:27Then there were 7.
03:28Then there were 9.
03:30So that's where we stand with the movement.
03:32Those are trades in the first round?
03:34Draft Day first round trades.
03:35First round trades.
03:36The problem is there are so many people in the top 10 who want to get out of there or
03:39who want to move back.
03:41And there's not a lot of teams.
03:42Dallas, in theory, would be one of the higher teams that would want to go up.
03:48And so it is a little bit of a buyer's market.
03:52I know Albert Breer said that a lot lately, too.
03:54He said that you may be paying less than typical to go up this year.
03:59Anything else jumping out in here from Schefter's column, Bobby?
04:02No.
04:02I mean, I think obviously some of the stuff in there about love being 3, that is new traction that
04:08we're picking up today.
04:09The McShay and Schefter thing talking about love at 3.
04:12Nobody has been mocking love to the Cardinals.
04:14And now they're both coming out saying the same sort of thing.
04:16Is that legit or is that where smoke starts?
04:20The Bailey-Reese stuff sliding is interesting because I do think that would change the perspective for Dallas some.
04:27But I wonder how much of this, too, how much scuttlebutt they hear changes because, you know, the Giants trade
04:34that happened.
04:35Like, how much of this has already expired because it was said before the Giants trade?
04:39How have the totals responded to the Giants pulling this off?
04:42Well, I mean, look, some of them early on thought there was no chance that they pass on downs or
04:48style.
04:48They think they're going to take both of them.
04:50And then others are like, the draft is ruined.
04:54It's ruined my entire thing.
04:55Now it's trade down, trade down.
04:57Some are saying accumulate picks for 2027.
05:00You know, do we know if next year's draft is supposed to be a lot better than this one?
05:04We'll have more quarterbacks, which is better for a lot of people.
05:07For a lot of people, yeah.
05:09Dante Moore, Arch, Soresby, Lenoris, Trinidad.
05:15Yeah, it's a quarterback.
05:16So now you're going to have everybody falling.
05:17C.J. Carr.
05:18By the way, Jordan Renan from the Giants literally one minute ago just said,
05:22Jeremiah Lovett, three sunny styles at four, leaves the Giants in an ideal trade down situation.
05:27So he does, like, Renan, maybe not to Dallas, but Renan is saying that Giants would very much start talking
05:33to people about bailing out of five if they saw Bailey was there.
05:37But bailing out of five.
05:38Bailey or Reese, potentially, I guess.
05:40If they saw Bailey or Reese there, they'd bail out of it?
05:43He said it puts them in an ideal situation to trade down with Bailey or Reese on the board.
05:46Someone will pay for a top edge rusher.
05:48Can you imagine?
05:49Ladies and gentlemen.
05:50That actually is smart, though.
05:52Is that because they've already invested in Burns and they've got to, and so they're just, they're not going to
05:55take an edge?
05:56Forget all that for a second.
05:58If Jeremiah Lovett and Sonny Stiles have a running back and a linebacker go in the top four above Bailey
06:06and or Reese, welcome to the crazy, this crazy NFL draft story.
06:13You saw Bailey.
06:15The nerds would have lost if that happens.
06:17Is Bailey your number one at this point of the guys you've seen?
06:20I'm just like, that's the best player you've seen so far?
06:22Him or Reese.
06:23So what would you be willing to give up to go that high, knowing that it's to the Giants?
06:31What if you had nothing in return?
06:33You just had to give them 20.
06:34It's 12 and 20 for five.
06:36Would you do that?
06:38And then the Giants get to pick 10, 12, and 20.
06:41Stay strong.
06:42I mean, I want, yeah, I need you, Chop.
06:44I need you.
06:44Stay strong.
06:44Hold my hand.
06:46Stay strong, baby.
06:47Stay strong.
06:48I want Downs and Crosby.
06:52I'm taking Votch Lombardi's tweet from over the weekend and saying, seems like a good day.
06:57To send 20 to Vegas.
06:59Give me my edge and give me my safety.
07:03Do you think it would have to cost that much?
07:05I don't know.
07:06I wonder if you could get away with like a future two for Crosby.
07:09Because obviously he went for more than that previously, but there's so many questions been introduced now.
07:14So if you're the Raiders, it's like, do you want to salvage this?
07:17Well, now you're scaring me on Bailey a little bit, saying there's something off the field.
07:20No, I don't think you have to.
07:22Given where Dallas is, those are the kind of risks you take.
07:24I just wonder if the other teams at the top will look at it and go like, eh, we just
07:27have too many maturity questions.
07:28I'm going to stick with what me and Choppy believe.
07:32This defense is too far away to move up and get one player.
07:37Yeah.
07:37It's too far away.
07:38I need multiple players.
07:40I need multiple darts.
07:42Now, would you count Crosby, 20 for Crosby, and Downs as multiple players?
07:5020 for Crosby?
07:52Yeah, count as multiple players.
07:53I'm getting Downs and Crosby out of my draft.
07:55Right.
07:56And so I need to walk away with two guys on Thursday.
07:58Yeah, at least.
07:59And if that's Max Crosby and Caleb Downs, then you're a better football player.
08:02Are you okay with 20 for Crosby?
08:03I mean, I'd rather not, but like.
08:05Like, as things have played out and the prospects attached to the hype or lack thereof at 20 for me,
08:13I'm like, okay, just go get Max.
08:17Just go give 20.
08:18Now, I would love for them to have offered up the second first, next year's second before that.
08:22But now we have to have a conversation of what Dexter Lawrence, we'll do this at 920, what Dexter Lawrence
08:28has done to Crosby and maybe George Pickens.
08:34920 in the red zone.
08:35Sexy Dex has two knees, though.
08:37That's the problem.
08:39You've been wanting to give 12 for Crosby, so I don't want to hear it.
08:42Yeah, I'm sitting here trying to convince the Raiders to give him up, so I'm going to talk about what
08:46a useless health risk Max Crosby is.
08:50Would you rather trade 20 for Max or give up what you have to to go up to 5 to
08:56get Bailey or Reese?
08:58Um, ooh, they need, ah, probably, I'm getting Max.
09:09I'd rather have Max in 12.
09:11And a player at 12.
09:12Yeah, Max in 12.
09:13Now, if you're telling me, though, 12 and 20 is Downs and Keldrick Falk, I'd rather go get Bailey.
09:23What if it's Downs and...
09:24What about Cassius and Downs?
09:26I don't think they would take Cassius, but I mean...
09:29Short arms?
09:29Yeah, he's got short...
09:30He's shorter than Bain.
09:33Oh.
09:33I would say, yeah, probably...
09:36You'd be in a car with one of them driving.
09:37I'd want Bailey.
09:38You wouldn't want to be in a car with Bain driving.
09:40Oh, yeah.
09:41What'd you say?
09:42Downs and Hood?
09:43What's the last thing you said?
09:43I didn't say Downs.
09:44No, no, the last...
09:45I would go Bailey if it was in that instance.
09:48If you were telling me it was Downs and...
09:49Would you rather trade up for Bailey or Reese?
09:52I'd prefer Reese.
09:56Reese is...
09:56You're a Bailey guy.
09:58For this team, Bailey.
10:01And the call...
10:02For this team?
10:03I think you'd say for this team, Reese, he can do more.
10:05Bailey's ready to play now.
10:07So is Reese.
10:08No, but more so than Reese, I think.
10:09Reese is going to have to...
10:11He's talked about he doesn't know how to rush the passer.
10:13That he does it off a feel.
10:15He's going to have to learn.
10:16Like, Bailey knows how to rush the passer now.
10:19Now what from Schefter?
10:21Uh-oh.
10:22Breaking news?
10:23Do we have breaking news?
10:24San Francisco.
10:25What did they do?
10:26San Fran has reached an extension with Trent.
10:30Of course.
10:30Two for 50.
10:32How old is he?
10:3339?
10:3437 or 38?
10:36Trent Williams, two-year, $50 million extension.
10:40Yeah, 37.
10:40He'll be 38 in July.
10:42Be 38 in July.
10:43All right, so the cost from moving up to five with the Giants,
10:46which you think would be what?
10:48If you're going up to five, probably 12 or 20.
10:52Maybe they send you a kicker a little bit.
10:54But yeah, so 12 and 20 by the Mike McCoy trade chart, the value.
11:0112 and 20 totals up to between the third and the fourth pick.
11:08So the third pick is like $2,200.
11:10The fourth pick is $1,800.
11:11Those two picks together is like $2,000.
11:13So if you were to just go up to five and send that,
11:15you're paying more than what the value is worth.
11:18So the Giants maybe then have to send you a kicker back.
11:20Like maybe they've got a third rounder.
11:21I don't know what all they've got on their board.
11:23I'll have to look.
11:23But it'd be one of those things where they would probably have to send you
11:26something back.
11:27Pepe, what are the totals saying in these scenarios?
11:30972 says, I want to keep 12 and 20 in the first round.
11:32432 says, do not trade up.
11:34They need to trade back and get more picks.
11:36The 817 also says, do not trade up.
11:38903 says, stupid to move up in the draft.
11:41Half these picks usually fail.
11:43Yeah, 956 said, I would rather trade 12 back to 18 or 24,
11:48gain a pick between 35 and 45.
11:50So I'd rather have 20, 24, 39 than 12 and 20.
11:54You need multiple players.
11:55Yeah.
11:56And I know it's...
11:57I really, I mean, I'm big on trading down.
12:01Yeah.
12:01The farthest I would want to trade down is probably 15 or 16.
12:04The Giants do not have a third rounder, by the way.
12:07So that also complicates things because in terms of trying to get a kickback that matches.
12:13All right.
12:13So that's the latest.
12:14Adam Schefter with two different people in the league saying, what happens if Bailey or
12:19Reese get to five?
12:20What would Dallas do?
12:21Now, what you could do to match these up a little bit, if you did 12, 20, and then 92
12:31for five and 37, that would come close to matching.
12:35So you get the two top five picks in the first and second round, and then you don't pick them
12:39the third.
12:39That's the only thing.
