00:00I think when you're looking at the opportunity to like as the rest of the AFC North resets it
00:05would be a great time to bring a new quarterback in and I would be pretty sure that I'm pretty
00:10sure
00:10everyone that works for the Browns front office is looking for that person you know I don't know
00:15if they have it in mind yet or not but I don't know I think you're gonna get your wish
00:19if I had
00:20to just based on some things that I saw at the combine and conversations that I had. Cynthia
00:24Freeland of the NFL Network joining us in the previous segment talking about the Browns adding
00:29to the quarterback room beyond just Shador versus Deshaun Watson I felt like the Larry David gif
00:36where he can't he's like battling between whether he's okay with something or not I was like well
00:42all right it's not just Shador versus Deshaun but why the hell are you drafting a quarterback if
00:46you're just going to draft a quarterback this year well but but they'll add another quarter
00:50and maybe it'll be bad I don't know I I really it's really tough to get behind the idea of
00:55drafting a quarterback drafting another quarterback in another draft that is a one quarterback draft
01:02and then being like this guy's your starter. Well the follow-up there was like you know it's like
01:07well how high do you think this is going to go like she said high and it's like well do
01:11you mean number
01:11six overall or what do you what exactly are you talking about and then she made a reference to
01:16that quarterback in Miami so like does she think Carson Beck is like some sort of big like awesome
01:21pick is that the idea I think Carson Beck to the Cleveland Browns makes an insane amount of sense
01:25but like that's not the same capital as what as what she was inferring to begin with I mean
01:30would I be surprised if the Browns took Carson back with pick 39 no I wouldn't there's a relationship
01:37with Munkin he has played an asinine amount of college football in the biggest games when I was
01:44listening to to Cynthia talk about the Browns the Browns love to point out hey we're doing this they
01:51love to point out the models that they're following right sure what was the offensive line
01:54the the offensive line example that Andrew Barry gave in his press conference after hiring Todd
01:59Munkin you mean the Bears example Bears yeah and so every time they've also broke down the Ravens
02:03too oddly enough but every time they've done some sort of move they've kind of pointed to a contemporary
02:10NFL kind of thing yeah they like to see that it's been done before yes which is funny I mean
02:15this goes all the way back to uh Bengals take McPherson in round five and so then we take a
02:20kick
02:21around four the following year yes now are they doing that because somebody else did it are they
02:27just doing that to explain why they did it there is a difference between those two things I can
02:32understand if they look at this and go yeah we can't put it all into 2027 we think we can
02:40find our
02:40Tyler shock and at this point Carson Beck will be two years removed from his uh arm surgery he has
02:48started x amount of games we're going to draft him a little bit earlier under the idea he can be
02:52our
02:52Tyler Shuck or so one other thing that kind of matches what and this is not the Giants but this
02:57is the
02:57Saints in many ways if we want to stay with New Orleans and them trying to copy or maybe see
03:01it be done
03:01somewhere else the the thing that the Saints kept telling everyone and Aditi would point this out
03:05often that's why it stays in my brain the idea that the Saints just they wanted to make sure
03:11everything was in place before they took their quarterback like that was their big idea they wanted to round
03:15it out and obviously it didn't work out the way that they wanted and it doesn't mean it would work
03:18out here but that blueprint of getting everything set all all the pieces on the offense set and ready
03:23to go and then you just kind of you just kind of put Chuck in there and then kind of
03:27let him go that
03:27was that was like a big thought process of theirs and it seems like that's what the Browns are trying
03:30to do as well now they've timed it out a little bit better because now you give Chuck this next
03:34full
03:35year and if he can't stay healthy or he doesn't take a step forward then you're in line for the
03:402027 class the Browns from the second that they bungled up this Deshaun Watson trade have perpetually
03:48been a year out of where you want to be yeah for quarterbacks and it feels like you're still going
03:54to be there but listen I'm not a big Carson Beck fan I'm not a big Garrett Nussmeyer fan I'm
04:01not a big
04:02Ty Simpson fan I think each of these quarterbacks come with a very specific ceiling that inevitably don't
04:09get you where you want to go that said could I understand the point of specifically at 39 or 70
04:16taking a Carson Beck or a Garrett Nussmeyer to build the floor of your quarterback room yes I wouldn't
04:23do it but I understand if you're the Browns saying we can't put all of our eggs in the 2027
04:29basket
04:29nor can we put them all in the Shador or Deshaun basket and that's what that would be and that
04:34would
04:34be an acknowledgement there uh now if they if they took a quarterback in I don't know let's say
04:3839 70 whatever and I I don't know that Beck will go that high but let's just play with it
04:43for a
04:43second that I love playing with it that would tell me uh more than anything we've seen that they're not
04:48interested in Deshaun Watson being the starting quarterback or a backup quarterback or seeing
04:52the field and again maybe they make it a competition and it is what it is but that buffer that
04:56you keep
04:57talking about I think exists within taking a quarterback that high I just think it's really hard
05:01to win with all this inexperience and I know Andrew Barry and he's right just because you're young
05:08doesn't mean you have to lose at the same point if we're talking about a second year fifth round pick
05:14as as you're 1A and a rookie as you're either second or third round pick that's a you're like
05:22I understand hypothetically you think you're raising the floor of that quarterback room
05:27there's a lot of bust in that room to then turn around for a third straight year to draft your
05:33fourth quarterback and what could be a top five pick did last year though did it just throw everybody
05:38off uh to a point where you I mean you look up and then you got all these different quarterbacks
05:42not
05:42taking number one overall that are having success like is that enough for them to think that these
05:46quarterbacks are so good and college has them prepared in such a way and they're all just kind of
05:51ready to go even though we've debated about Ty Simpson and his readiness but like the the idea that
05:56you've been you've been trained differently at seven years old these kids have they have elite
06:00coaching they have elite this elite that that maybe Andrew Barry just thinks you can do it with the
06:04second round guy I also can understand so yes I think the answer is I I think that Tyler Shuck
06:11and
06:11Jackson Dart have given teams a different way to look at this in the end though we're putting a lot
06:16listen I know Jackson Dart had good numbers last year and a bad team we're putting a lot in roughly
06:23I
06:23played 12 games last year when it comes to Tyler Shuck you're putting a lot into eight or nine games
06:29from last year a lot into these guys and is that enough to take you off the draft like that's
06:33I think
06:33that's we talk about like doomsday scenarios is the one where you uh you see Carson Beck play eight
06:39games and he looks good but then is he is he too good to take you off of the 2027
06:43draft yeah yes and I think
06:46that's the concern because again like it would like even with Shador with this next year it's like
06:52okay uh seven or eight games last year and let's say another you know 17 games this year 24 games
07:01is
07:01still incredibly early to call it an absolute yes in a quarterback you can you can pull the rug on
07:06a
07:06quarterback after 24 games very easily in the NFL we do it with first round picks all the time
07:11but like hell even Brock Purdy going into his contract year winning all the games they did
07:18there were still massive by the way there's still massive questions with Brock Purdy going forward
07:22so I just think you're just in a weird position and I do want to say that I at least
07:26empathize that
07:27with the Browns that you are in a situation that feels tougher to win than not so you're going to
07:32try
07:32and find a way to I don't want to say shortcut it but to try and find a way to
07:37at least stabilize the
07:38position it's just hard to believe that Shador and let's say Carson Beck will just put names on it
07:45that there isn't a lot of bust in that room and that that could lead to a really to like
07:51because
07:52to me you got to put the locker room in a position to succeed you do those guys owe it
07:57to have somebody
07:58to fall back on and that's why I've always said it's it's equal part Shador insurance and it's equal
08:03part Deshaun Watson insurance I need somebody that if if Shador's not ready to be a starter in the NFL
08:09can plug in and play and that also allows you to never have to see Deshaun again I don't know
08:15Carson Beck Garrett Nussmeyer or Ty Simpson make me feel all rosy about the Browns in 2026 well I'm
08:21just trying to figure it out because I do think there's part of the locker room that would say
08:24Deshaun Watson that's not that's not you're not giving us a real chance there we know what you're
08:28doing uh how do they position this quarterback room to make it seem like if it does go bust they
08:33didn't just ship 2026 down the river I don't think you can I think at this point it's incredibly hard
08:38and then I think that puts Todd Munkin behind the eight ball but this is part of the problem that
08:42I feel like a lot of fans have with this Browns regime to begin with anyway is that uh it
08:46doesn't
08:46seem like Andrew Barry cares about the things let's say you care about it way more than I do the
08:50idea
08:50that like the locker room matters for this year and and these guys have to get no winning and
08:54environments and all this other stuff it doesn't seem like Andrew Barry cares about that at all
08:59I would agree with you and I I really question that about Andrew Barry I I think listen I don't
09:04want him acting like his job is on the line one because I don't think it is and two because
09:09you
09:09can do a lot of dumb and desperate stuff in the attempts of of trying to save your own job
09:14at the
09:15same point I do think you have to look at this situation and in honor the people you have in
09:21the
09:21building because it's not like like everybody that's here this year that you're building with
09:26pretty much everybody's going to be here next year so this isn't like a scenario of it's our
09:30last year of this old bill we're running into the ground and then next year there's going to be you
09:35know 40 new faces in that locker room 90 percent of the guys that are in the locker room this
09:40off
09:40that will be in the the locker room in 2026 should be there in 2027 and they're going to be
09:46there with
09:46a second year head coach and I think these kind of things do matter and it's interesting like if you
09:51said right now yeah Ty Simpson Garrett Nussmeyer Carson Beck because Munkin has previous experience
09:58with Beck I'd probably feel most comfortable with him I still don't know the probability that I would
10:05give it to actually work out even if I would probably rank him above depending on where you're
10:10going to take him above Nussmeyer and above uh the yutz I just don't think it was an accident that
10:16you said that quarterback from Miami now I do question the idea or at least wonder as tight-lipped
10:22as the Browns are and consistently tight-lipped as they've been and like boots on the ground local
10:26reporters aren't getting anything close to what Cynthia just tried to lay out for us uh I mean
10:31Cynthia's plugged in I'm not questioning the validity of it all I just I just find it interesting that the
10:35Browns gave their big plan to her and her alone I would be surprised if I feel like we've heard
10:42a few
10:42people talk about drafting a quarterback we've heard talking about drafting quarterbacks as opposed to
10:45like I haven't heard that but I haven't heard anyone say oh that quarterback in Miami and then
10:49uh the way that she used the conversation she's had with people at the draft like I that's further
10:54than a lot of people will go if they even bring up the draft in general so of those three
10:58quarterbacks
10:58we talked about I know that there are other quarterbacks people like Talon Green I like well I do
11:02like the idea I like the idea of Nussmeyer I do I think Carson Beck does make a lot of
11:05sense for
11:06them in general uh but I I don't think Nussmeyer Beck or anybody that you could bring up
11:10outside of Simpson and then obviously you know we know what's happening with Mendoza
11:14what was the smirk for oh the smirk was I just realized as you and I are talking about this
11:19I was starting to think of well I'm really comfortable with Nussmeyer at 70 and maybe
11:23Beck at 70 and then maybe Simpson at 39 I'm like Jesus it's the it's the veteran quarterback market
11:29all over again well I'll give you a fourth rounder for Mac Jones and I'll give you and then people
11:33think
11:33that we love these quarterbacks and are like this guy's gonna be a star we don't think any of that
11:37no no nobody here thinks any of that and so like but this is the pond that they're playing in
11:42and they've done this to themselves because again I but this this screams to the idea that they're
11:46not taking 2026 that serious and it's all about 2027 yeah I don't know I mean depending on where you
11:52take the quarterback if you take a quarterback with a second round pick you have expectations for
11:57that quarterback if you start them in 2026 you have expectations for that quarterback I think that's
12:03my struggle it's less actually about a Carson back uh Ty Simpson uh Garrett Nussmeyer and I think it's
12:09more of all right we're backing ourselves into yet another one year and done situation and at some
12:17point that does feel counterintuitive right when you already did this to Shador and Dylan the previous
12:23season in a bad quarterback year and now you're doing it again and everything feels like a lead up to
12:292027 at what point are you just putting lipstick on a pig and trying to put asses and seeds I
12:33also
12:33don't know how this works either because if you take a quarterback let's say top five in 2027
12:37you're gonna have Shador and let's say Carson Beck and like to round out the quarterback room two guys
12:43that you would have watched just fail the year prior but they're gonna be the ones to step in and
12:47do like you'd have to blow up the quarterback room in many respects you'd probably have to just move
12:51off Shador and then Carson Beck would still be here and then he'd be your Mike Glennon because we needed
12:55one of those but yeah that's even an awkward spot too though if he got like seven or eight games
12:59and
12:59just wasn't very good and then you're just in a and I get it fine he's a giraffe he'll be
13:03fine he's
13:04you call him a giraffe he's a little bit of a giraffe he's not quite Davis Mills he's got long
13:08neck but I
13:09don't know about yeah he's not Davis Mills owns that one he owns that one we're out that's true
13:12nobody's got as long of a neck as Davis Mills Carson Beck is the king of yeah I haven't been
13:16to
13:16school in two years I don't I don't go to class I don't do that I don't what are you
13:20talking I'm
13:21playing a national title game yeah I don't do school but off the field also the Cavender twin
13:26high high batting I could tell you for a million dollars which Cavender twin I thought it was a
13:31Bella danger Cavender twin I mean I can't keep track of the I can't I mean I have no idea
13:38sounds like a
13:38dangerous spot
13:40wah wah
