00:00Welcome in our Cowboys insider, the one and only Bobby Belt, 877-881-1053, the number to call, the number
00:06to text, 877-881-1053, after a Monday night Cowboys 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Zach Wolchuk, alongside
00:14the Super Bowl winning scout, Brian Broaddus, and Bobby, we were, I know you heard it, I mean, you certainly
00:21are locked into the post game, you always are, and we love it, and thank you for all your work,
00:25getting all the audio for us as well,
00:27but what were your initial thoughts as we sat and watched this one?
00:31I mean, look, a win's a win, and we talked about you don't necessarily want to style point him, and,
00:36you know, Brian Schottenheimer and that whole team needed a win this week, so that's good, and you come out
00:43of this, and I don't know that I feel much better about them coming out of this, to be honest,
00:48but I don't feel worse.
00:49In the last two weeks, I felt really, really significantly worse about the team after the game was over than
00:54I did heading into it, so, from that standpoint, it's a positive, it's going to be hard to feel great
00:58about anything, I think, when you just talk about all the negativity that's occurred, and then look at how bad
01:04this Eagles team was at this point, but they did what they needed to do, made them sweat for about
01:08three quarters, but did what they needed to do ultimately, and so you just say, okay, on to the next
01:14thing now.
01:14You still don't feel good about anything, really, but you're just like, okay, on to the next thing.
01:18Well, because, to your point, I think a lot of the feedback that I'm seeing right now, at least from
01:21the text, is, all right, well, you were going up against an Eagles team, and you pointed this out, Brian.
01:25No, we knew this was going to happen.
01:26They were not going to get credit for beating the Eagles, and if they lost the game, it was going
01:30to be fire everybody.
01:31Your season was over if you lost them.
01:33Yeah, that's that.
01:34You saved your season by being able to win.
01:36I just, folks, save your text, if you would, because I predicted what you're, Votz likes to call this a
01:42scorecard bingo kind
01:44of stuff that, you know, you know, fan bingo.
01:46This is, you knew fan bingo was going to be tonight.
01:49It was the Eagles.
01:50They were horse blank.
01:52You know, they were no good.
01:54They didn't have anybody.
01:55They didn't have their quarterback.
01:57I knew this.
01:58I predicted this.
01:59I actually predicted this.
02:01And all of that, hey, fair.
02:02They've got their fourth and fifth string receivers out there.
02:05You just play who you play.
02:07Just line up and play.
02:07We did a postgame, Brian, where it was a backup quarterback in the Tampa Bay Bucs, and the Cowboys got
02:12destroyed.
02:13Yeah.
02:13So, it's one where it's a road game in the division.
02:17They had to have it.
02:18Had to have it.
02:19Had to have it.
02:19Yeah.
02:20Against your biggest rival, in my opinion.
02:22And I asked Stephen Jones about that during the week, and right now he would agree.
02:24Eagles are the Cowboys' top rival.
02:27Yeah.
02:28It's a team that you hate.
02:29And if we would have been talking doom and gloom, fire everybody, the calls would have been absolutely madness if
02:35they dropped this game.
02:36They got to win.
02:37But there certainly are a lot of problems.
02:39But I think on the offensive side of the ball, Bobby, we know the defense is going to have issues.
02:43And we can get to that.
02:44But the offense, the last two weeks, was like, what the hell is going on here?
02:48Yeah.
02:49That at least, it seemed like, got back to the version of the offense that we expected to see.
02:53They ran the ball.
02:53They were able to execute in the red zone, specifically with the passing game.
02:58There were some points in this game tonight where it looked like Dak was not totally on with his touch,
03:05with his accuracy down the field.
03:06I wonder if there's something up with him at all.
03:08You think his hand is...
03:10I don't know if it's the hand.
03:11I wonder if it's...
03:12Remember that thing he got stepped on and everybody, including me, because everybody over there is telling me, like, no,
03:16the hand's okay.
03:17I keep feeling, like, more than the hand, it's something, like, something in his torso or something, because he keeps
03:23getting, like, rocked in the ribs.
03:25And he keeps getting up, and he'll push down, and he'll, like, slide.
03:28He did that against Green Bay about five times.
03:30He got bumped tonight a little bit.
03:31And he did the same thing where he was kind of grabbing his side a little bit.
03:34And look, a lot of his, like, power's going to come from that, you know, that torque.
03:39But he's doing that roll left and throw across his body thing a couple different times.
03:44Yeah, I mean, overall, and, man, when they got in the red zone, he was money.
03:48Like, the throws he was making inside the 20 were ridiculous.
03:51But, yeah, overall, I think specifically getting the running game going is great.
03:56And being able to get the running game going to that extent is fantastic for them.
04:02I still wish Shottie would trust the offense a little bit more in certain situations.
04:08Like, when you get the penalty after the Aubrey kick, I wish you wouldn't just keep the kick on the
04:13board.
04:13Or just go for it, fourth and three.
04:14Like, you've talked all week about your offense, and we're going to get this right, we're going to do this.
04:18He does coach scared at times, and it does bug me.
04:21Bobby, this is where I disagree with you.
04:24And I disagree with you because it's a backup quarterback, and I'm trying to score as many points as possible.
04:31And I know, if you drive and then don't get it, and you leave that thing, you leave, you know,
04:37if you leave, you know, getting nothing out of that,
04:41I'm trying to pile points as many because I'm going to make that backup quarterback chase points.
04:46Yeah, just the way that they moved the ball down the field to begin with.
04:49I had more of a problem with him burning 16 seconds.
04:51That was bad, too.
04:52That was awful.
04:54That I had a bigger problem.
04:56Because there, I felt like he cost his team points.
04:59I felt like he cost his team a touchdown, is what he did.
05:01Yeah, and look, I don't know, look, I mean, I'll be honest at this point.
05:04I assume a lot of times that is Ryan Feeder in his ear telling him what to do with the
05:10timeouts.
05:11So there's a few different things here.
05:12You need to figure out who's in charge of it because whoever's in charge of it needs to be fired
05:16from it.
05:16Yeah.
05:16So I don't know if that's shoddy making the decision.
05:19Okay, if it's you, you don't need to make the decision anymore.
05:21I don't know if it's Ryan Feeder.
05:23If it's Ryan Feeder, Ryan Feeder, you were removed from this.
05:27Frankly, they give way too much power to Ryan Feeder in that building, and it's got to stop.
05:31I'll tell you what, Bobby.
05:32I mean, for the guy whose responsibility is game management stuff.
05:36He's not good at it.
05:37He is not good at that.
05:38That is not good.
05:39No, I feel like everybody that was watching the game on their couch or wherever they are was saying, call
05:43a timeout.
05:44He does a lot for them.
05:45Ryan Feeder.
05:45So like, okay, cool.
05:47Too much.
05:48Have him do a lot of different things.
05:49That's fine.
05:50Do those things.
05:50Do you know some of the...
05:52He's so involved in their game plan and everything else.
05:54It's not just game day stuff with him.
05:56He is involved in a lot of different things.
05:58And so that's fine.
05:58He can do that.
05:59And he may be super nice and great and everything else.
06:02I don't know him personally.
06:04But he has the title of game management stuff.
06:07And their game management is awful.
06:09It's been awful.
06:09They still have not won a challenge since Shoddy became head coach.
06:13That's on Ryan Feeder because he's the one telling them to go for it or not.
06:17So no, I mean, somebody's got to answer for that.
06:20And so if that's Shoddy, if it really is Buck stops with him, all right, you need to pass that
06:23off to somebody else.
06:24I have a feeling a lot of it's Feeder.
06:25And if it's Feeder, then Feeder needs to be removed from that responsibility and just focus on whatever else they
06:29have him do.
06:30Hear, hear.
06:31877-881-1053, the number to call, the number to text.
06:36Overall, defensively, moving forward, I mean, were there signs of positivity?
06:40Cleaned up third down in the second half.
06:42Second half got a little bit better on the third down stuff.
06:44Early on, it was really, really bad.
06:47The penalties, the third down conversions were not good in the first half.
06:51Then they have that long, drawn-out drive to open.
06:55There were two really long drives.
06:55Two really long drives.
06:57Their second offensive drive.
06:58But yeah, the start of the second half.
07:00That one was 17 plays, 84 yards, 9 minutes and 16 seconds.
07:04That's just, you can't have that against that Eagles offense.
07:08But from that point on, they played better.
07:11Overshown's interception was ridiculous.
07:13That was a great play from him.
07:14That was phenomenal.
07:15You started seeing a little bit more consistency in terms of generating some pass rush in the second half.
07:20That still was not enough for a team that was giving up more pressure than any team in the NFL
07:24other than the Dolphins this year.
07:26So, no, improvements in there for sure.
07:30Joey Porter Jr. I thought had another good game.
07:33And they managed to do a good job in some of the pass coverage stuff.
07:38It's still, early on, they were gashing you with the run.
07:41And that slowed down a little bit, thankfully.
07:44But yeah, I think that they settled down a little bit in the second half.
07:47Those first three drives from the Eagles, though, where that was rough.
07:50Because, again, it's that problem of just getting off the field on third down.
07:54And I know we talked about it last week.
07:56Or had referenced it last week.
07:59There was a point in the Packers game where, for the season, Dallas was on third and nine plus, allowing
08:0552% conversion.
08:06Which is insane.
08:08And they just, they continue to have issues on third down.
08:11But, again, ended up being 5 of 12 for Philadelphia.
08:14And I think they started out something like 4 of 5 or 5 of 6 in this game.
08:17So, you finally slowed it down a little bit as the game went on.
08:19Here's a report from John Mishota from the press conference.
08:23He said, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer was very short with his post-game responses.
08:27The entire news conference was about four minutes.
08:29They're usually at least ten.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Asked if everything was okay.
08:32He responded, I'm great, excited for our guys.
08:35That's like, he is probably, like, not too happy with all of us right now.
08:40Well, it's part of the game.
08:41I agree with what he says.
08:43I agree with do better.
08:45I do agree with that.
08:46And I don't want to make this about him, but if you're being that way.
08:50I love Brian Schottenheimer, personally.
08:52I think he's fantastic.
08:53I think there's a lot of different things about him that are encouraging.
08:56I think his numbers as an offensive play caller have been pretty good over a year and a half.
09:00I think he probably gets too much hate for that one.
09:04I think that what he talks about in terms of building a program is great, but the reality
09:07is, like, he's deserved all the hell he's caught the last couple weeks.
09:10No question about that.
09:12And the criticism that will still come out of this game, out of a victory, is probably
09:15something he's got to wear, too.
09:17Yeah.
09:17Yeah, 100%.
09:18Shout out to Sean Sharif for alerting us on that, as well, for your morning check.
09:21Yeah, I'm sorry about that.
09:22Check out Bobby, Sean, RJ, here on the flagship 105.3.
09:26The fan, of course.
09:27Bobby, brought to you by the creators of Buffalo Casino Games.
09:30They're bringing you Cowboys-themed casino games developed by Aristocrat.
09:32But check out Aristocrat's newest casino games, NFL Super Grand Champions.
09:36Please contact 1-800-GAMBLER for 21 and over.
09:40Yeah, I mean, who knows why he cut that one short.
09:43We'll hear from Ryan Schoenheimer.
09:45But, you know, you could kind of tell things were a little bit different with him at the
09:50podium here as of late.
09:51I think the stress of the job.
09:53But he does.
09:54I mean, he talked about it with Brad in the pregame.
09:56Yeah.
09:56You know, his dad.
09:57And they lose a game against Miami.
10:00They all go to dinner as a family.
10:02And there's a table of guys that are talking and just saying negative things about Marty
10:06Schoenheimer.
10:08And then Marty paid the tab for that table, went over and said like, hey, by the way,
10:12I'm Marty Schoenheimer.
10:13My family heard everything you were saying.
10:15That guy reached out several weeks later, sent a letter and apologized.
10:18But it comes with the territory.
10:20I think all of us would love nothing more than after every single postgame show to absolutely
10:24rant and rave and sing Shottie's praises and the entire organization.
10:30But we got to kind of call it like I see it and just be honest and fair.
10:33And the job hasn't been good enough up to this point.
10:36No.
10:36I mean, there's zero.
10:38They should not be three and four.
10:39You should not have lost to Tampa Bay.
10:42Once it got down to Baltimore, you should not have lost that game.
10:45So, no, those are all things that he's got to wear.
10:47And that can be uncomfortable.
10:49That can be unhappy.
10:51You know, fix it.
10:52Yeah.
10:53And really fix it.
10:54Don't just say, I know we're going to fix it because we're going to fix it.
10:57And, again, I really like Shottie.
11:00But I think that, you know, there's got to be a little bit of an understanding of, like,
11:04you've got to wear what you've got to wear.
11:05And that's on you.
11:07It reminds me a little bit of, you remember in 2016 when they had broken the Dez MRI news
11:12to the San Francisco media instead of Dallas when he had a knee issue?
11:16You remember that?
11:162016?
11:17No, I don't.
11:17Dez hurts his knee against Chicago, I think it was.
11:20Going into that week against San Francisco, Garrett had mentioned it to the San Francisco
11:24media first.
11:24The writers, yes.
11:25And the Dallas media wasn't happy with it.
11:27And Garrett came out of his next press conference and gave about two second answers.
11:31Yeah.
11:31Just great.
11:31Doing wonderful.
11:32Just could not be – that felt like Brian Schottenheimer if he was just – Brian Schottenheimer
11:37going four minutes in a press conference.
11:39That's weird.
11:40That is unusual, especially coming off of a win.
11:42But he's probably got a little bit of a – yeah, see?
11:45Told you guys.
11:46Kind of chip on his shoulder and didn't feel like being very nice.
11:48And if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.
11:50Well, if you keep running the ball and keep – you know, the offense keeps scoring 38
11:56points or whatever they scored tonight, good for you.
11:58And, you know, you could – I don't need any words from you if you're going to do that,
12:03you know.
12:03Yeah, I mean –
12:04Thanks for not losing the game against a backup quarterback tonight.
12:07This team scores 30 or more.
12:09They're pretty darn good in the Brian Schottenheimer era.
12:11They're 8-2-1 when the Cowboys score 30 or more points.
12:14But he's only got, like, what?
12:16How many total wins does he have in his career?
12:17He's got 10, I think, now.
12:19Yeah, so 8 out of the 10, they've done the 30-plus point thing.
12:23Yeah, they're also the first team to score 30 points against Vic Fangio this season.
12:27That defense had been pretty good for Philly.
12:30I do think we're going to be pretty excited about what we saw from the offensive line
12:33when we go back and watch it.
12:34They seem like they were absolutely creating a lot of good running lanes,
12:37moving a pretty decent front line there for Philadelphia.
12:41And the secondary, I mean, they were able to pick on Cooper DeGene a few times.
12:45You mentioned how Dak's not scared to go up against Quinion Mitchell.
12:48He certainly was targeting him.
12:50Did you see, I mean, from CD, George Pickens was the big thing this week, Bobby.
12:54I don't know if we really know.
12:56You probably need to go back and look and see what you saw from George Pickens.
12:59But it seemed like at least he was targeted a little bit more,
13:01and he came up with that nice touchdown that had to feel good.
13:034 for 57 on six targets for George.
13:06Yeah, it was fine.
13:07I don't know that anything stood out as a, like, man, this is a big response game from him.
13:13But it was a good performance.
13:16He had that really good catch in the end zone, like you said, made a couple plays for them.
13:20They came up with plays when they needed to in the passing game.
13:23That was the big thing.
13:24The running game, they consistently were running the ball fine.
13:26In the passing game, they made the plays when they needed to.
13:28And that's all you can ask.
13:28And apparently one of the very short answers Brian Schottenheimer gave in the postgame was,
13:33what did you think about your offense tonight, putting up 416 yards and 38 points?
13:37He said they were good.
13:37Balanced.
13:38That was it.
13:39Yeah, see, you can't.
13:41The balanced line is a little bit of a, you guys like that?
13:43You like balanced since you were asking for that all week?
13:45Well, I mean, if you're going to do that, were we wrong, Coach?
13:51No.
13:51You know, was that not fair critiques?
13:54He doesn't want to get in one of these, by the way.
13:56He does not, he should not want to get in one of these where he gets into a,
14:02one of those, what we call those matches, you know, with the media and stuff like that.
14:07You know, take your lumps, move on.
14:09Yeah, I mean, I mean.
14:10You know, all you can expect is, he's been in this long enough.
14:13The facts are going to be on the side, or going to be on the other side.
14:16He does not have the facts to back up his side right now on these discrepancies.
14:22The last two weeks, they haven't been good enough.
14:24No.
14:24And that, you know, and they're trying to win a division.
14:27He's feeling the heat now.
14:28That's what that is.
14:29He's feeling the heat, and it's good to get a win, and I hope it's the start of a turnaround,
14:32and I really, really like him again, and I would like to see there be success here for him,
14:37and that would be good.
14:39But again, at the end of the day, you've got to wear it.
14:41And if that's the case, don't be upset about it and pout about it when it's time to answer for
14:47it.
14:47Couldn't agree more.
14:48469, I'll definitely buy Shadi's family dinner, lunch, or breakfast every week if he can deliver a conference win.
14:53I think a lot of the fan base would co-sign on that 469.
14:56All right, let's pause 10 seconds for station identification across the Dallas Cowboys radio network.
15:01This is the exclusive home of Dallas Cowboys football, KRLD-FM and HD1 Dallas-Fort Worth.
15:08Let's go, Cowboys.
