00:00I hope that Shador looks better than our poor guy, Luke Faye, man.
00:05I didn't put it on him last week.
00:07I didn't.
00:09This week, what's going on in Columbus right now?
00:15Because it's not just Julian Saiyan's injury.
00:19That's a very easy shield to hide behind.
00:23Oh, Ryan Day lost his quarterback.
00:24What's he supposed to do?
00:26It's a down year.
00:27The Buckeyes not afforded a down year.
00:29It's like, guys, I don't know, because we saw some of this oddness at the end of last
00:34season to Matt Patricia's defense without five first round picks, whatever it was, looks
00:41a whole lot closer to Joe Woods defense.
00:45It's bad right now in Columbus.
00:47It is.
00:47I mean, I saw people on social media just posting pictures of Jim Knowles being like, did we
00:51do this guy wrong?
00:52Was it where we were in the wrong spot?
00:54I just criticizing this guy and his defense.
00:56Cause I mean, that's a big thing for me.
00:58And I don't think Luke Fahey was good this week.
01:00I understand he threw for 360 yards.
01:04It wasn't good.
01:05And like they, there was a stretch there basically between the first and fourth quarter where
01:09they had put up like 30 yards of offense.
01:11So I don't even know how you get to 360 passing yards doing that.
01:15It's honestly impressive.
01:16A lot of that probably comes off the idea that quite frankly, they put up 53 yards on
01:21the ground because this team can't manage to run the football, but like, and this is kind
01:26of where I want to go with it.
01:27When we talk about Ohio state, like, no, I don't think Ohio state is afforded to down here.
01:32Like that's not the expectation of the program.
01:35The expectation of the program is of that of Georgia with Kirby smart of that of, you
01:40know, Alabama, obviously pre-Kaelin DeBoer and even with Kaelin DeBoer, cause I think rope
01:44going into thin there.
01:46But the expectation is that you are competing, not even if it's for a national championship,
01:51although that is the expectation, but you are a top of college football every single
01:55year, at least getting into that conversation.
02:00You have three losses on the schedule and I mean, not that many games left to play, but
02:06you have losable games left on the schedule.
02:08Like, yeah, I mean, Nebraska is coming up.
02:10That should be one, no matter what state Ohio state is.
02:12And I would hope they walk away with a win from Nebraska, but your other two games are
02:17obviously the game, which Ryan day is coaching.
02:20So I would tell you is never safe.
02:22And on the other side of it, Northwestern, the damn good football team this year.
02:26Like, I don't know that I just watched this Oregon team that we walked in.
02:30And even after the first couple of games of this year with Dante more healthy, we said,
02:33well, that wide receiver course, you know, suspect that defense is not everything in there
02:38with a backup quarterback too.
02:40And you just got smoked.
02:42Like this wasn't even a game.
02:43I'll be honest.
02:44We were out at Alex's parents for most of the day.
02:47And we're sitting there watching Ohio state.
02:49We leave at about the start of the fourth quarter game was over.
02:53I had no reason to turn it on.
02:54I did not care.
02:55It was what?
02:5614 to 31 heading into that.
02:58I'm like this team.
02:59I've watched them play offense for the last two quarters.
03:01And I mean, props to them.
03:03They put up two touchdowns, but it was useless.
03:05There was no point to turn on the game.
03:06Well, the second half was completely listless.
03:08It really was.
03:10There was no fight at all out of anybody in the second half.
03:13Oh, wait, actually, until they started a fight because they were getting their asses kicked.
03:18And then they got mad and they tried to start a fight, which was, which has really become a hallmark
03:22of Ryan Day's Buckeyes in these embarrassing losing efforts.
03:26I mean, in back-to-back weeks to go down to then unranked USC and then Oregon was what?
03:3223.
03:3223 last night.
03:34It's bad right now.
03:36And yeah, like you said, you look ahead.
03:38Even against Nebraska, I don't know what to expect because the team rolled over last night in their home building
03:46in Columbus.
03:47And I just didn't have that on my bingo card.
03:49They were seven and a half point favorites last night.
03:51With a 14 point lead to start the game.
03:53Like the offense is clicking out of the gate.
03:55I was like, okay, maybe they just needed a week to figure it out.
03:57Right?
03:57Like at first quarter, I was like, okay, maybe this team actually found their spark.
04:00Maybe Fahey's good enough.
04:02Everything around them.
04:03Like last week was a wake-up call.
04:04No, no.
04:06Oregon runs a fake punt and the team basically went, well, if they're able to do that, we're done.
04:10I don't know how that happens.
04:12And this is where we get into like, I'm watching Jeremiah Smith and all of the clips that are on
04:16social media.
04:17That man is not having a fun time.
04:20He is not allowing this team to go out and basically just walk away with the idea that it's going
04:26to be perfectly fine.
04:28Like Jeremiah Smith is just like, yes, it's a doubt.
04:30No, no, no.
04:30He is screaming at the top of his lungs animated on the sidelines looking at Ryan Day.
04:36That's not allowed.
04:37And by the way, we have a tweet from Ian Rappaport this morning as it relates to Browns and Saints.
04:41Quarterback Deshaun Watson has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol, but he's expected to be inactive today.
04:46Not playing as the backup quarterback.
04:48He said, obviously, Watson only practiced once and Shador, of course, getting the start in this one.
04:54So no Watson.
04:55There's no threat of him being the backup.
04:57I was in on afternoon drive Friday, Jake, and Jonathan Peterlin just had this fear that Shador was going to
05:05be on some kind of short leash and that it was going to be some sort of scene out of
05:10the Saban documentary where there'd be a halftime switcheroo.
05:13And it would be Deshaun Watson if Shador Sanders struggled in the first half.
05:17But now, even with Watson out of that concussion protocol, he's not going to be the backup today.
05:24Shador, Dylan Gabriel, Talon Green, those are going to be your three quarterbacks.
05:29And for Shador, I mean, you've got the day.
05:32The day is now yours.
05:34There's no ominous shadow behind you.
05:36There's nobody looking over your shoulder.
05:39As Todd Munkin said this week, as Travis Schweitzer said this week, go out there and let it rip, kid.
05:44There's now no threat of you being, I guess, supplanted, had a halftime of this game or have Deshaun Watson
05:51come in if they feel like the game needs saved.
05:54It's going to be Shador's day, which I think is the right call to make.
05:57I mean, I guess Deshaun could still be the emergency third.
06:00Yeah, the emergency third.
06:02Yeah, you're still listed as inactive when you're the emergency third quarterback.
06:04You don't obviously count towards the dress 48, but like, I don't think that's happening.
06:09I think I don't know if it is either.
06:10I mean, maybe they pull that and it's, Hey, just in case we don't want to have to throw Taylor
06:15green out there into the mix.
06:17And Deshaun's he's healthy.
06:18So there's that, but he doesn't have the prep this week.
06:20I don't know.
06:21Very interesting.
06:22We're obviously going to talk about this.
06:24We're going to talk about a lot of Shador here at the seven o'clock hour, but I do want
06:30to go back to a house.
06:30Is it like, is this a game that we look at because we were just talking about, obviously, Jeremiah Smith
06:35animated on the sideline.
06:36Nick, I don't know what legend Bay has to do in an offense that can't push the ball down the
06:39field to get touches.
06:41Weird, isn't it?
06:42How about Tavion St. Clair?
06:43Huh?
06:44I don't know what happened to him.
06:45Does that kid have arms?
06:46Wasn't he a fuck?
06:46I thought that was a Ken tweet yesterday.
06:48It was a Ken Carmen tweet that I saw on my timeline this morning.
06:51It's true.
06:52Why not?
06:53I mean, I mean, Luke Fade, there's nothing worse.
06:55And I can say this as a shorter guy myself.
06:57There's nothing worse than when you have a short quarterback in there and he's just getting manhandled.
07:01It looks doubly bad.
07:03It just looks twice as embarrassing.
07:05And that's what it was.
07:06And it's like you have a five star in the building who is a dual threat, who even if he
07:12has no arms, as Ken Carmen put out there, let him run around a little bit.
07:17Luke Fade's getting his head taken off by Oregon's defensive line.
07:21Like, I just don't know what the plot is.
07:24And you're talking about Jeremiah Smith and what this means for Ryan Day.
07:27I mean, dude, they lost him the Heisman Trophy.
07:31Oh, yeah.
07:32I mean, I don't think you're getting to a three loss team right now.
07:34So you're trying to meet with recruits and stuff and all like that.
07:37And Jeremiah Smith's little brother, obviously, part of that recruitment conversation.
07:44WRU and all that stuff.
07:46Come be a Buckeye.
07:47Come be a great next NFL wide receiver from Columbus.
07:50I think all that stuff will still have a little bit of weight to it.
07:54Ryan Day is going to have to answer some questions about, hey, remember that time when you guys just let
07:58the bottom of the bag fall out at the end of the season?
08:01You literally cost Jeremiah Smith a Heisman Trophy.
08:04That's not good.
08:06That kind of stuff really does create bad culture juju.
08:12They should have gone all out to try to win him the Heisman.
08:15And now that the opposite has happened, like everybody's going to have to answer for that.
08:18And like you're staring here, I mean, the offensive line has been bad in back-to-back years.
08:23You don't have a defense to stand on, which again, like for Matt Patricia, maybe you didn't need five first
08:28round picks, but that shouldn't be the expectation walking on a defense.
08:31So this is obviously massively concerning for the defensive side of things.
08:35Yeah, don't we recruit?
08:37I get you graduate a bunch of guys in the NFL draft.
08:39Urban Meyer did that every year.
08:41And then the next group of guys that rolled in were just as good as the ones that left for
08:46the NFL draft.
08:47And I mean, over the last couple of years, you've seen it.
08:49Ohio State's graduated defensive players onto the NFL scene.
08:55I mean, a ton over the last two years, right?
08:57But you had the back-to-back.
08:58Yeah, some of the seniors are turning and stuff like that.
09:01But you lost a lot of guys to the NFL.
09:03They came back.
09:03The defense was really good again.
09:05Now you look at this, like even wide receiver you, Brian Hartline's gone.
09:08And you went out and got a transfer in Devin McEwen, who was supposed to be, oh, great number two
09:13senior going to step in there.
09:15And like a fringe return guy.
09:17Yeah.
09:18He's got 370 yards on the season.
09:21Like, he had a good week this week.
09:23But the week before that, he's got five yards against USC.
09:26Like, that's not wide receiver you.
09:27And Jeremiah Smith's still having a really good season.
09:29But that guy might be the next Julio Jones.
09:32Brandon Ennis.
09:33Remember, everybody was talking about how does he sneak into the back end of the first round of the NFL
09:38draft.
09:39That's out the window.
09:41So, I'm looking here, and I don't know how you look at this team right now.
09:45Well, Brian Day's a very tipping point.
09:50Three-loss season.
09:51Last time an Ohio State team lost, they had three losses in the regular season.
09:55You know who the head coach was?
09:57That'd be the great Luke Fickle, was the head coach of Ohio State the last time they lost three games
10:01in a regular season.
10:02That's not acceptable.
10:03There was a reason Luke Fickle was on his way out, and it was a lot more than three, by
10:05the way.
10:06But, like, he was on his way out very quickly.
10:09That's not acceptable.
10:10That's not okay.
10:12This feels like a fireball offense.
10:14And if you lose to Michigan again, is it Ryan Day against this Michigan team?
10:19Yeah.
10:19I think Ryan Day will have his bags back in by the time next season starts, for sure.
10:23Any argument?
10:24No argument.
10:26Especially because, hey, you're talking about Michigan.
10:29Michigan, how do you get out of the cornfields in Nebraska, is what I'm worried about.
10:35The Northwestern Wildcats are decent this year.
10:39That's what I—you're talking about Michigan's three weeks away, man.
10:42If I'm Ryan Day, I'm sweating the two games that are sitting right in front of me.
