00:00I need Scott Petrarch to not only cover the Browns, but have the opportunity to play golf.
00:04And if it's snowing, he's not going to have that opportunity.
00:07That's valid.
00:07And I care about our friends of the show, and guess what?
00:10Scott is on the Make It Right, Call Kyle Wright hotline.
00:13I know you would get out there and play golf no matter what the weather is,
00:16but I'm wishing good weather for you and your golf game.
00:19Well, I appreciate it. I don't know if you guys are going to believe this.
00:21I'm at Sleepy Hollow for a golf rules seminar.
00:24So I'm at a golf course, but there's snow on the ground, and I'm not swinging a golf club.
00:28Golf rules to write something or golf rules to learn something?
00:33Well, I mean, it's about golf rules.
00:35I'm thinking I might be able to turn it into a story.
00:37Nice.
00:38So they're frowning on using your foot to just advance the ball?
00:41Andy, I don't believe in that.
00:43I play as it lies, buddy.
00:46Nice job, Schmales.
00:47Let me tell you the two people I'm not going on the course with, you and Jeff.
00:51Jeff plays by the rules.
00:53Right?
00:56Well-placed foot wedge is always in order.
00:58Oh, I didn't realize that you partake in the winter rules.
01:02Well, if you're actually playing somebody, you know, for anything that matters.
01:06Otherwise, you're just out having fun.
01:08If my ball lands in a divot, heck with it.
01:10The guy should have fixed it.
01:11All right.
01:12You know what, Jeff?
01:12We'll get a lift.
01:13After 15 years or 17 years or 30 years of doing this.
01:16You thought you knew me.
01:17I thought I knew you, but now I kind of like you a little bit more.
01:19Thanks.
01:20All right.
01:20So we do have Scott on the line, though.
01:21So we should ask him a couple questions about the Browns.
01:23That's what he's doing.
01:24Scott, why is Jarvis Landry picking on Kevin Stefanski?
01:29Yeah, that's a good question.
01:30I don't have a good answer for that.
01:32You know, I heard some of that stuff that Jarvis said.
01:34And, you know, I don't know if it's – there's so many guys doing podcasts now.
01:39And I don't know if he really feels that way or it's just good conversation.
01:44And it gets, you know, headlines or you want to tell good stories.
01:47I don't remember Jarvis ever having an issue with Kevin here.
01:51They had some success early when Kevin was here.
01:53Kevin always raved about Jarvis.
01:55So it hits me a little bit funky that Jarvis has had those kind of takes.
02:01That's the way I kind of feel about it, too.
02:03It just seems –
02:03Okay, if you want to say something, go ahead.
02:06But really, at this point, that's what you need to do.
02:10So whatever and good for him.
02:12How do you think Kevin's going to do in Atlanta, by the way?
02:16Well, I think he's going to do as well as his quarterback plays.
02:19You know, I think Kevin's a good coach.
02:20I've said that on here a million times.
02:22I do.
02:23I think he's smart.
02:25I think he might need to shore up some things on offense.
02:28Obviously, LeBron struggled and there were issues beyond Kevin.
02:31But he gave a play calling a couple times.
02:33Now Tommy Reese is going to call him down there, which might help Kevin.
02:36But, you know, I like the fact that he stays even keel.
02:39I think that's how you have to be as a head coach.
02:42He's organized.
02:43All those things.
02:43I think he does relate well to people.
02:46I knew plenty of guys in the Browns locker room that really liked playing for Kevin.
02:49So I think he's going to have success.
02:52But I am worried about, you know, from his perspective, you know, it's Michael Penix Jr.
02:57and Tua, right?
02:58And I don't love either of those guys.
03:00So you're only as good as your quarterback.
03:03Even if you have B. John Robinson.
03:05That's exactly right.
03:06I mean, I think he's got some good talent.
03:08And if he gets good quarterback playing, maybe he thinks Tua is good enough or Penix is good
03:12enough because there are guys around him, right?
03:15You mentioned Robinson and Drake London.
03:18Yeah, Drake London.
03:18I mean, there's guys there.
03:19So he's in a better spot offensively than talent-wise than Kevin was here.
03:24So I think there's a chance.
03:26The division's easier.
03:28So I do think he has a chance.
03:30And if he fails, I wouldn't put it all on him, right?
03:34I think it comes down to a lot of times who your quarterback is.
03:37So let me – and I know we're talking about players.
03:39What do you think the difference between Todd Munkin and Kevin Stefanski is going to be?
03:43Like, is there something that's going to be noticeable or noticeable to the fans about
03:48the way they attack things or the way they back off things or just – like, I'm still
03:52trying to get – and it might be too early to ask this question.
03:55Yeah, I mean, like, personality, I think it's going to be obvious.
03:58You know, Todd Munkin's a way different personality than Kevin.
04:03You know, I think he's going to express himself more.
04:05I think we're going to get probably better answers during news conferences.
04:09And I think you're going to see a lot more emotion come out of Todd.
04:13That just would be my expectation and having dealt with him a little bit in 2019.
04:19Offensively, and from that aspect, it's going to be really interesting to see.
04:22Andy, I don't know if it's going to be super obvious.
04:26My guess is there will be things that you go, okay, that's new and that's a Todd Munkin
04:30thing and, you know, he lives in this world as a play caller.
04:35But I'm looking forward to getting more opportunity to talk to Todd and get an
04:39understanding of what those are.
04:41I mean, I've obviously watched him coach with the – or call plays for the Ravens,
04:44so you have some sense of it.
04:46But it's different when you have Lamar Jackson and you have Derrick Henry, right?
04:50So how does it work there?
04:51How does that translate here?
04:53Because he said he's going to run the same system or a lot of the same things.
04:57So I'm looking forward to get more of his philosophy.
05:00And then once we get to, you know, practices in the game, seeing how that manifests itself.
05:05I want to follow up on one other question about Jarvis thing.
05:07Jarvis said that AVP was calling plays.
05:10And, like, Jeff and I both looked at him.
05:12We're like, we don't remember that, but maybe he was calling a play here or there
05:16and we just didn't know about it.
05:18Yeah, that felt like an exaggeration to me.
05:22You know, obviously, Kevin, I mean, he wasn't shy about admitting when he gave up
05:26play calling the last two years, right?
05:28So I don't know why he would have been with AVP here.
05:32You know, and it would have shocked me that AVP had a big say in the offense
05:36or called a play occasionally or whatever or called them into the quarterback.
05:40No.
05:41But I struggled to think that there was a stretch of games where AVP called the plays.
05:48And he's the offensive coordinator.
05:51You know, even if he's not the play caller, you've got to figure he's contributing.
05:54Yeah.
05:55Nonetheless, we wish them the best of luck and we'll see.
05:58No additions to the quarterback situation here.
06:01Kirk Cousins is still available.
06:04Cardinals, in theory, need a starting quarterback.
06:07Steelers, in theory, need a starting quarterback, at least until Aaron Rodgers makes a decision.
06:11What do you think happens with Cousins?
06:14And should the Browns have any interest?
06:15I think probably not.
06:18But should they?
06:19Yeah.
06:19I don't think so with Cousins.
06:22You know, that felt, I know he wasn't available last year, but that felt more of a Stefanski guy.
06:27You know, they had experience together than necessarily a Munkin guy.
06:32And we probably talked about this in one of the last couple weeks.
06:36Unless you think it's a significant upgrade over Schuder,
06:39then I don't see the point of bringing in a veteran, especially a veteran as old as Cousins.
06:46You know, if your goal is to win nine games or try to maximize the win total,
06:51and maybe it is, or maybe it should be.
06:53But I think the Browns view it more as, okay, we have Schuder Sanders.
06:59Let's see what we have in Schuder Sanders.
07:00Unless there's a significant upgrade available.
07:03And I just don't see Kirk Cousins at this stage in his career being that significant upgrade.
07:08I feel the same way about Kyler Murray and Geno Smith and Tua even.
07:12So, I don't think he's a fit here.
07:15I don't know if there's a starting job out there for him in the NFL.
07:18Unless Aaron Rodgers doesn't come back to Pittsburgh.
07:22And then I think it makes sense for Cousins to go there.
07:25You know, they're a veteran team.
07:26They have a veteran coach.
07:28They're not looking to take a step back or rebuild.
07:31But outside of Pittsburgh, I don't know where Cousins goes and walks into a starting job.
07:38Is there a free agent you're looking at now that maybe the Browns are targeting?
07:41That maybe there's somebody they should be going after, they can afford, that would be right?
07:45Or do you think we're kind of settled in now until we get to the draft?
07:51Yeah, I think we're basically settled in.
07:53And, you know, I mean, the moves, they weren't, I don't want to phrase this the wrong way,
07:59but they weren't necessarily significant.
08:02But that doesn't mean A.J. Aponita isn't a good pickup, right, is a rotational defensive end.
08:07I think he is.
08:08I think that move made a lot of sense.
08:10Taylor Davis, right, the same way at defensive tackle.
08:13So, you can still get guys that will have an impact and could have an impact
08:18and could even start for you or play significant snaps.
08:22They're just not big headline moves.
08:24They're not multi-year contracts.
08:26So, I think that's where they are now.
08:29And, you know, outside of offensive line, and then Quincy Williams is a two-year deal,
08:35the linebacker, there haven't been those type of moves, right?
08:38It's been the one-year move or the one-year deals for most of the guys.
08:43But the bulk of it was offensive line.
08:45Outside of that, it's been a relatively quiet free agency period.
08:49We would assume they're drafting a wide receiver at some point,
08:52probably in the first or second round.
08:54Does this team still need to get another veteran?
08:58And the best in free agency have come and gone.
09:01There are a couple that you could still think, all right, that guy would fit the bill.
09:05Or is it the Andrew Barry trade machine for a wide receiver again?
09:09Yeah, I'm still leaning toward the trade there, Jeff,
09:14as far as how do they address with a veteran.
09:17Because I'm not sure there's a free agent veteran out there that comes in and makes a big impact.
09:23You know, you can make a trade for a guy that makes a big impact.
09:26And this is where Andrew Barry and I could diverge in philosophy, too.
09:30Maybe he wants to go super young.
09:32Maybe he thinks Jerry Judy is the veteran on this receiving corps, and that's enough.
09:36And he could be right.
09:38But I just tend to think, you know, I look at this receiving corps,
09:41and you go, okay, let's assume they draft one or two guys early.
09:44And then you get Cedric Tillman, who's in year four,
09:46and you have Isaiah Bond, who's in year two, and Malachi Corley, who's in year three.
09:49There's not a lot of experience there.
09:52No.
09:53And I think that helps.
09:55I think the experience helps.
09:56If you had a guy that was a proven guy could come in and help that room,
09:59especially when you're going to have, you would expect a high rookie or two draft picks.
10:04So I think there is value there, and I wouldn't be shocked.
10:08I think the Brown should add somebody there.
10:11I'm just not convinced Andrew Barry feels the same way about that.
10:15Anything on defense?
10:18I don't think they're desperate anywhere on defense,
10:20but what are you addressing on defense?
10:23Yeah, at corner, we don't know how it's going to play out with Martin Emerson Jr.
10:27He hasn't signed anywhere.
10:30He's coming off the Achilles.
10:31I don't know if he fits here because he's an outside corner,
10:34and I think they could use another inside guy.
10:37I know they re-signed D'Angelo Ross and Trey Avery.
10:40And Avery spent some time in the nickel last year, and I thought it was okay.
10:43It was pretty effective.
10:45But I feel like you've got Denzel Ward, you've got Campbell,
10:51and then you had Miles Harden.
10:53And those are your three guys.
10:55I feel like you could use one more guy there.
10:57And maybe that guy comes in the draft.
10:59Maybe it's another free agent.
11:01But if you've got a guy that had some inside-outside versatility,
11:05I like that idea, Cora.
11:08I'm anxious to see this thing as it moves forward.
11:12And the offensive line signings, and I agree with you.
11:15It's like, okay, you added guys that you're going to start.
11:19Well, that's kind of what they needed to do.
11:21You know, so I get that.
11:24Are they still locked in on what we would assume to be a left tackle in the first round,
11:30I would assume, Scott?
11:31Would you be stunned if that doesn't happen?
11:34Yeah, I'd be stunned if it didn't happen by 39.
11:39I'd be surprised if it didn't happen in the first round.
11:41I think by the time you get to 39,
11:44if they don't have a receiver and an offensive lineman,
11:47it's more than just an offensive lineman.
11:49You're right, a left tackle.
11:50If they didn't have a left tackle and a receiver by 39,
11:53I would be stunned.
11:54You know, you can start the season with DeJuan Jones,
11:57but you don't know your future, your left tackle of the future.
12:00And you have two picks in the first round.
12:03That's the time to do it.
12:04So, and I think there's plenty of worthwhile candidates
12:09that can come in and play left tackle for you.
12:11Maybe not week one, but at some point,
12:13and be the guy for the next however many years.
12:15So, yeah, I don't think that's changed.
12:18I do think the moves they made on that line give them more flexibility.
12:22You don't necessarily force a guy,
12:24but I still think you're going to have left tackle and receiver early in this draft.
12:29Yeah, the last question for you, too.
12:31I'm just wondering, in this draft, you've got some high picks,
12:34right, you've got three early.
12:37And I'm just wondering, based on last year,
12:39what did they end up with, four draft picks that will be starters next year?
12:43Four or five?
12:44Four?
12:44You've got Fanning and Junkins, Swessinger, Sanders.
12:49Graham.
12:50Samson will play a lot.
12:51Yeah, I mean, I'm just wondering how many guys they draft this year
12:54are going to be able to have instant impact,
12:56and if they're teed up for them.
12:59Yeah, I mean, when you have so many high picks,
13:01you have to count on that to some degree.
13:03Yeah.
13:04I think last year probably set some unrealistic expectations,
13:09but I think it's fair to count or fair to expect three guys from this next draft class
13:15to have significant impacts as rookies.
13:17I think that's fair.
13:19All right.
13:19Scott, tell everyone at Sleepy Hollow that we think they're –
13:21I think Sleepy Hollow is one of the best courses in Northeast Ohio.
13:24Fabulous course.
13:25I love that course.
13:25It is.
13:26Such a great champ.
13:27And then will you be submitting any new rules?
13:33No.
13:33You should submit some new rules.
13:35That's a good idea.
13:36Yeah.
13:36I'll have to think about that.
13:37Thanks, guys.
13:38All right.
13:38I'm just trying.
13:39Thank you, Scott.
13:40Appreciate you.
13:41All right.
13:41Take care.
13:41Talk to you later.
