00:00the unfortunate layer to this right and it feels like after talking to cam his miles has
00:05finally realized his unfortunate reality of he can't play quarterback well that's where we're
00:11at with this thing they weren't going to trade him last year andrew barry was dug in we're not
00:17trading you which makes it makes sense from barry's lens still from barry's lens it still
00:23does because you can't be the guy that made the worst trade in the history of sports for
00:27deshaun watson and the guy that lost miles garrett and then trade a future hall of famer miles garrett
00:31from that you know what i'll i'll concede the high ground on that so for barry it made sense but
00:36for
00:36the rest of it for for team building it didn't make any sense because they are dead where they stand
00:41until they get a franchise quarterback and that's why i talked about early in the show and how the
00:45browns are really in purgatory you can think the steelers are in purgatory making the playoffs every
00:50year and then getting bounced on wild card rick and no the the browns are the team that's in purgatory
00:55because they ain't nowhere good enough to make the playoffs but they're not bad enough to get the
01:02number one arch manning to get more well whatever quarterback is going to be there next year and
01:09by the way they're not trying to be there because i and i keep going back to it but like
01:15there's a
01:16reason i asked jimmy haslam what i asked him after you know when they uh hired todd munkin it's like
01:22okay you fired kevin because he didn't win enough games now andrew barry said the reason kevin was
01:28fired because of the lack of development and i'm by the way those were not andrew barry's words those
01:35are my words i'm translating what barry said but that's what he said you know we what it was
01:41independent of specific game outcomes those were andrew's actual words but jimmy said that they felt
01:49like eight wins over the last two seasons wasn't good enough and they could have won eight games
01:54last year uh you know we could yeah could have would have should have been right you ended up
01:59winning five that's what you are you're a five win organization you have been since 1999 let me ask you
02:04this though because isn't there a path it it's almost dependent on them getting another pick in 2027
02:13which i don't i don't think it's gonna be hard to come by d it's gonna be hard to come
02:18by a first
02:18round pick second round pick the only way there's the for me the only way is if they combine six
02:25and
02:2524 to end up in the middle somewhere in this year and then get the picnic because the whole one
02:31of the
02:31motivating things for andrew barry was we're getting that second first round pick this year so we can
02:37move up and get our quarterback that was always thought to be the quarterback right quote unquote the 24
02:42overall they were using as their quarterback chip then that never materialized this year with
02:47this quarterback class it's fernando mendoza and nobody else although ty simpson's probably going to
02:54be a first round somebody's gonna do it right somebody's gonna do that it's not gonna be the
02:59browns i'm fairly confident it's not gonna be the rounds because if the browns do that they're out of
03:05the running for quarterbacks next year you can't take back-to-back quarterbacks with first round
03:10picks you just you can't do it that i know teams have done it before that's just stupid roster
03:15management okay uh you you can draft the you know quarterback in the first round and then you know
03:20later in the because again we've seen that we've seen two quarterbacks drafted in one draft uh we've
03:26seen a first round quarterback and then a third round we've seen everything we've seen a third round
03:30quarterback and a fifth round quarterback right we saw that here last year is say they say they go
03:35through the draft and they finish this offensive line quote i'm gonna quote unquote finish i think
03:41they're gonna draft i think they're gonna draft the quarterback a mid-round quarterback yep they're
03:47gonna draft another project drew aller written all over it doesn't it yeah i know and i don't big kid
03:52huge arm raw talent that we felt like daryl i've i'm i'm andrew berry here we felt like it wasn't
04:00fully
04:00extracted during his time at penn state and we feel like in our ecosystem with todd at the helm we
04:06could really get the most did you just drop an ecosystem you're really in your andrew berry bag
04:12right now pretty good is that not a good barrier is that not um i i agree with you i
04:19i see the
04:19handwriting on the wall coming for that by the way um but if they if they draft drew out they
04:25got to get
04:25dylan gabriotti yeah have to have to because here's why even if you have to release him yes
04:30because drew aller would need to get on the field this it becomes the same argument that we did last
04:37year because you got to see what you have before you're planning on drafting one it's one 27 it's
04:42the same argument and drew aller doesn't necessarily have the makeup of a backup quarterback in this
04:49league sorry he doesn't he's six five and his current redeeming quality is his arm so you wouldn't
04:55want that to be a backup quarterback in the league you would want that to be a guy that would
04:59be a
05:00serious starting quarterback in the league the the worst thing for the browns right now is they believe
05:05they're better than five wins they're going to try and be better than five wins and this is not the
05:11year where you want that to be the case this is a year where you really do want to win
05:16three games so
05:17that you get a top two or three to take the brown side on this and and about being closer
05:22to
05:23contending and being not as in a bad purgatory as what the steelers are in i think i see the
05:29vision
05:29for what the browns are trying to do andrew barry's investing in the quarterback this offseason by
05:34building everything else up titus howard got a three-year deal zion johnson got a three-year deal
05:40elton jenkins is a two-year deal so these aren't tanking moves these aren't rebuilding moves to hand
05:46this kind of money to starting offensive linemen where if you could finish the job and rebuild the
05:51offensive line through the draft or via free agency the rest of the way and you get that
05:56starting left tackle and then if you could get somebody like carnell tate or jordan tyson to be
06:01that premier wide receiver to pair with jerry judy then i think they could tell themselves hey in 2027
06:07we're ready to draft our quarterback we're responsible we've got an offensive line that's
06:12not going to get this guy killed we've got actual wide receivers that could catch the football for this
06:18young quarterback i think they're trying to tell themselves we're going to build everything up
06:22this year so in 2027 we're ready to get that finishing piece the question is how do you align
06:29yourself to make sure you get that finishing piece in 2027 what they'll have to do because obviously
06:36outbidding the jets is going to be difficult to do because of the fire sale they had and they've got
06:41gino smith like they told everybody we're we're gonna get our qb in 2027 they're they're at the
06:48front of the line for qb's in 2027 you could make the argument the arizona cardinals are doing the
06:52same thing with jacoby you know yeah so those are two teams that you're really competing against here
06:58when you're looking at the 2027 so what you're going to have to do is you're going to have to
07:03make another deshaun watson type trade where you're going to have to give up oh for a proven
07:07because because well no because you can't hang on hear me out you're you can't get an additional
07:162027 first round pick right so you're going to go into 2027 wherever you are on the board right
07:23say you're 15 right so you're gonna have to say all right we're going to give you our 2028 and
07:30our
07:302029 first rounders so that we along with 2027 to come up plus more okay so that we can come
07:37up and
07:38go get our kid that's what they're gonna have to do oh and that and then you better be right
07:43that's
07:44the only thing that might be why the browns are proposing this five-year uh window to use for
07:51trading graphics yeah so that okay instead of maybe if it gets approved instead of trading the 20
07:5720 you trade 2027 2028 and maybe 2030 right so you save yourself 2028 we're gonna keep our own
08:062029 we're gonna keep our own we'll set 2030 on fight it is that it's nba-esque in a way
08:12it is
08:12it is it wouldn't be smart but that might be what the browns have to do very busy week for
08:19the browns
08:19and free agency uh we called it by the way just want to take a victory lap there okay one
08:24week ago we
08:25said that it would be a very busy week for the browns of free agency and that andrew barry was
08:29kind of leading us on and we were correct so mark that down as a victory for the sunday show
08:33okay
08:34we're uh batting a thousand this offseason um but you know where they're at right now it looks like
08:40they got the offensive line outside of the left tackle put back together humpty dumpty that is
08:44uh they're going to go ahead and i am convinced they will draft the left tackle and a wide receiver
08:50with
08:50uh six or 24 uh you know or whatever order the form yeah whatever order that comes in whether it's
08:57the receiver at six or the offensive lineman at six they'll do the other guy uh at 24 uh i'm
09:03i'm
09:03convinced of that uh i stand by it by the way yeah i think that's a good plan i really
09:09do i know we
09:11talked a little bit about ty simpson just because i do think it's an option that's there for them if
09:15they want to go down that road for whatever reason which they don't but go ahead i i really
09:21think that like it's so obvious and you see all these browns fans posting their mock drafts on social
09:26media this could be the year for the browns fan mock drafter to just have their dreams come true
09:33where you're able to get that left tackle at six or if you want a wide receiver at six have
09:38the other
09:38come to fruition at 24 like it could be the april for browns mock drafters well listen it is
09:45absolutely mock draft season out there uh i have enjoyed reading a lot of them uh some have been
09:52how should i put this very creative have you read mine yet i haven't done my i haven't done my
09:58post
09:59free agency mock drafts yeah i uh i'm i i don't really start looking at mock drafts until after free
10:07agency because i think it's i i just think that pre-free agency it's like yeah a lot's got to
10:17happen for the draft right if you were mocking the browns to draft a guard at six or a center
10:22at six
10:23you could disregard that now you know versatility the word of the week for the browns uh you know
10:30titus howard uh can play tackle he can play guard um you've got elton jenkins can be a center can
10:42be a
10:42guard uh uh johnson's eye on johnson he can play both guard positions so there's a lot of flexibility
10:51a lot of versatility with uh the moves that uh andrew berry made uh this uh this past week um
11:05and there's part of me that just wishes that guys were in their spot right but considering how
11:19things have gone the last couple of years from an injury standpoint and all the moving around that
11:26they had to do up front i actually really appreciate the approach andrew berry had when putting this
11:38line together and look i don't i don't want to discount tevin jenkins as well they re-signed him
11:43he's gonna have a real good shot uh at at a starting job here too and again it just really
11:50feels like that left tackle is coming coming in late april in the draft first round also like to
11:56their credit todd is a guy that has worked with like versatile offensive linemen before like during
12:03his time in baltimore ronnie stanley he's a true left tackle right but outside of him like andrew
12:08vorhees and ben cleveland are guys that could play multiple guard positions or center uh obviously
12:14linderbaum's a center but daniel falali is one of those athletic guards that could play numerous spots
12:20and tackle um then a right tackle roger rosa garden was a bit of a traditional right tackle but
12:25he was another guy that's played guard throughout his career too so like munkin has kind of worked with
12:31these patchwork offensive lines yeah and have gotten a lot out of them because like derrick henry
12:36has had two phenomenal rushing seasons during his time with baltimore obviously lamar's hardly ever
12:42sacked a that's because he's really athletic but i definitely think like todd can figure this out i do
12:49have a strange confidence in that just because he's he proved that in 2019 when he was here that was
12:56a
12:56patched up offensive line that was the second year post joe thomas's retirement and then during his time
13:02in baltimore he's had just a bunch of versatile guys that could play a bunch of different positions
13:06and him and switzer together patched that up in a way where derrick henry was able to have some pretty
13:12big running lanes and that was a big takeaway that i took away from zion johnson's first introductory
13:17press conference with the browns was that he's excited to pay some running windows for quinchon
13:22like i think we talk about the offensive line and we're so diluted on quarterback and it's all about
13:28the quarterback but like this should make life easier on quinchon to find some big time running
13:33alleys which didn't necessarily exist at all last year well i and i i felt with them picking quinchon
13:40judkins last uh april kind of felt like they found their next nick chubb uh you know and and that's
13:49and people i know some people took that as all you have big shoes to fill but yeah you're throwing
13:54shade
13:54at nick chubb no similar situation nick chubb was a second round pick yeah that pop quinchon looks to
14:00be a second round pick that's about a pop yeah so it's more so about what i expect that player
14:06to
14:06deliver more so that i'm comparing him to nick or saying he's going to be better or equal to uh
14:14what
14:14chubb was able to do when he was healthy with the browns but um i i think it's also important
14:20to
14:20remember that the browns best offense came off nick chubb yes like let's not forget that aspect of it
14:29and so when you have right now an offense that consists of harold fan and jr jerry judy
14:39cedric tillman isaiah bond like oh i mean when we asked cam what's next for the browns and free
14:49agency before the draft i i thought she hit a home run when she said a wide receiver and she
14:54wouldn't mind a young wide receiver and a veteran wide receiver still out in free agency before we
15:01even start talking about the nfl draft daryl that would potentially be three new wide receivers coming
15:07into this thing if they get a vet in free agency a younger player in free agency and a rookie
15:13coming
15:14into this equation because dude you can't be serious going out there with said till well i just
15:19think that they're they're still in love with the idea of cedric tillman being something more so
15:27than what he's actually been able to deliver he hasn't delivered anything i i know but and this is
15:34one of andrew berry's blind spots as a gm is he really want and i get it he's your guy
15:43you pick them
15:44you nobody's rooting against them right he was a top 100 pick so we're talking about those as very
15:49valuable and you hate to see those i just lit on fire but i gotta call it the way i
15:53see it and yes
15:55it's unfortunate injury has been part of the part of the journey here for sure and you hate to see
16:01that same thing with jed wills like if jed wills could stay healthy and if he actually wanted to play
16:06football um then yeah i think he could be one of the he could have been one of the best
16:11in the game
16:12right i get i understand why they took him it was still the wrong pick he the thing was said
16:17though
16:17like he's been in the league for three years he's got 800 receiving yards he's caught 70 balls but how
16:23many games has he played he's played in 40 so at this point you are who you are like he's
16:29not a wide
16:30receiver three he's just a guy unfortunately and like you could have him on the roster that's not to
16:36say that you have to cut him but it's like you gotta add some talent in front of him you
16:40can't rely on
16:41cedric tillman his three years in the league 224 receiving yards 339 and 270 like if 14 games 11 games
16:50and 13 games so injury has played a factor but your sample size is still 38 games and you've put
16:57up
16:57pretty much nothing like come on
