00:00:00...of a lifetime.
00:00:13Yes!
00:00:14I made it to Fashion Week.
00:00:15I'm so excited and kind of shocked that this is all happening.
00:00:19This is something that I'm going to remember for the rest of my life.
00:00:23You have a one in three chance of winning Project Runway.
00:00:26Right?
00:00:27Can you believe that?
00:00:28I didn't think I was going to make it very far.
00:00:31I set the intention of getting here, which is wild.
00:00:34Now I just hope I can make myself and my community and my support system proud.
00:00:39This is like a once in a lifetime experience.
00:00:43I'm just a couple days away of possibly being the winner of Project Runway.
00:00:47Morning!
00:00:48Sunshine.
00:00:49Hi.
00:00:49We're the final three.
00:00:50It's finally here.
00:00:52I know.
00:00:53This opportunity to show at Fashion Week is an opportunity to show the world who I am.
00:00:59Good morning, designers.
00:01:01We have some friends of yours here who are excited to see you and would like to congratulate the three
00:01:06of you on making it to Fashion Week.
00:01:07They will be waiting for you at Parsons.
00:01:10See you there.
00:01:11I hope it's not family.
00:01:12Well, I guess that means we should probably get ready and look at least good.
00:01:18I really have no idea what to think.
00:01:26Hi, everybody.
00:01:27Hi.
00:01:27Hi.
00:01:29Welcome back.
00:01:30It's great to see all of you.
00:01:32Thank you, too.
00:01:34Is it good to be back?
00:01:35Yeah.
00:01:36A lot of memories?
00:01:37Yeah.
00:01:38I don't know about that.
00:01:39I don't know about that.
00:01:39Yeah.
00:01:40This room is bittersweet.
00:01:4150-50.
00:01:42Yeah, it's bittersweet.
00:01:44And how was it, first time seeing each other?
00:01:46It was very soft.
00:01:46It was cray-cray.
00:01:47Lots of slapping, too?
00:01:48Yeah, that's right.
00:01:50Yeah.
00:01:51As you can see, we have three empty seats right here.
00:01:53Let's bring out our finalists.
00:02:01I'm really happy to see everyone again.
00:02:03It's really nice to see people that I really miss.
00:02:06I'm excited.
00:02:07I love these guys.
00:02:09They're awesome.
00:02:10Should be good.
00:02:11Congratulations to our three finalists.
00:02:14All of you, without exception, have evolved as designers during your time on Project Runway.
00:02:19You should be very proud of that.
00:02:22Andy, you in particular have had some high highs and some low lows throughout the season.
00:02:27But your point of view as a designer was always clear.
00:02:30And a little look.
00:02:32Andy's only 23, but his design work is very mature.
00:02:36I can't wait to see what he does.
00:02:37How are you? I'm Andy.
00:02:38I know that my aesthetic is different.
00:02:40I began my career designing pageant gals.
00:02:42And I realized pretty early that it wasn't my passion.
00:02:47So, now it's my time to design for me.
00:02:50The past two challenges, I have put my best forward.
00:02:54And, you know, I thought that the judges would see that.
00:02:57Ooh, are you weaving that?
00:02:58Yes, girl.
00:02:59Oh my God, that's awesome.
00:03:00Really cool.
00:03:02I could see you and Rihanna fighting over that one.
00:03:05Well, I saw it first, so I think that's remarkable.
00:03:08Congratulations.
00:03:09You're the winner of this challenge.
00:03:13I think it is really beautifully done.
00:03:17The shape is very flattering.
00:03:21How was this whole quadriere?
00:03:23It was giving her like an heralding.
00:03:24Jackie Kennedy would not have camel toes.
00:03:26Right.
00:03:28This is just a train wreck.
00:03:31Wow.
00:03:32I mean, can you imagine Jackie Kennedy in these ill-fitting pants?
00:03:36I do want to take a risk, so...
00:03:37Oh, you took one.
00:03:39I've been in the bottom way too many times.
00:03:41A fighter in me has been awakened.
00:03:44Good.
00:03:47Andy's execution is amazing.
00:03:50I like it.
00:03:50You've kept to your vision.
00:03:52And as a designer, you have to stick to your vision.
00:03:54It's real.
00:03:55It's wearable.
00:03:56Good job.
00:03:58I really love this dress.
00:03:59I mean, it's a perfect little black dress for that edgy girl.
00:04:04Your dress was really...
00:04:06Beautiful.
00:04:07...great looking.
00:04:08Congratulations.
00:04:09You're the winner of this challenge.
00:04:10Wow.
00:04:11This has been a crash course to getting to know who you are
00:04:15and sticking by who you are.
00:04:18My family moves here for a better life,
00:04:20but never has it ever been thought that maybe the success for a child
00:04:26that's brought up by an immigrant family,
00:04:28that they're going to be a successful fashion designer.
00:04:31That's the beauty of this,
00:04:32because all I need are my dreams
00:04:35and the belief that they can come true.
00:04:42Phenomenal job.
00:04:44Actually, I want to say congratulations to all of you,
00:04:46because you've made this an incredibly wonderful season.
00:04:49How has it been for all of you since the show has been aired?
00:04:53All of a sudden, you guys are television stars.
00:04:55I have a huge gay following.
00:04:57Yes.
00:04:59Oh, yeah, I do.
00:05:01I got a marriage proposal.
00:05:02Oh, really?
00:05:03That sounds scary.
00:05:04On the street?
00:05:05You just met a guy on Facebook?
00:05:06On Facebook.
00:05:08What did you learn from the show Casanova?
00:05:10What I learned?
00:05:11A lot of English.
00:05:14Who else is getting all these crazy questions from people
00:05:17from the outside world?
00:05:18People will come up and be really excited
00:05:19and, like, recognize you from the show,
00:05:21and they always want to know the scoop about people, so...
00:05:23What do they want to know?
00:05:25Um...
00:05:26Hmm...
00:05:26Uh-oh.
00:05:27We get asked a lot about this little lady.
00:05:29About Gretchen?
00:05:29Really?
00:05:30Yeah, I always have good things to say, so...
00:05:32I get questioned the most about Jason, Ivy, and Gretchen.
00:05:35What questions do they ask you?
00:05:36They ask, is Jason really crazy?
00:05:38They ask, is Ivy really mean?
00:05:41And they ask, is Gretchen really bitchy?
00:05:43What do you think about that Gretchen?
00:05:45Well, I think the funny answer is I'm not a bitch.
00:05:49I just play one on TV.
00:05:51You just play one on TV.
00:05:52That's a good one.
00:05:54Is that even accurate?
00:05:55I think being a girl that's confident
00:05:59quickly shifts into role of bitch
00:06:01in a manner that I feel is not right just for saying my opinion.
00:06:06Ivy, I see you shaking your head.
00:06:08It's fake.
00:06:09It's fake?
00:06:10What is fake?
00:06:11You think what she's saying is fake, or...?
00:06:13We live with her.
00:06:14She can say one thing to us in the room that was, like, positive.
00:06:17Say, for instance, Christopher.
00:06:18He always got positive feedback from Gretchen.
00:06:20Then she says in the interview
00:06:21that she doesn't like anything he's ever done.
00:06:23What I say is not about people's characters.
00:06:26My biased opinion about design, it's just my opinion.
00:06:31In Gretchen's defense, I've gotten to know her,
00:06:33and I've gotten really close with her,
00:06:35and I know that she does mean well.
00:06:38The way that we speak and the way that we say things,
00:06:40we forget how that can be perceived.
00:06:42You grow from, like, criticism.
00:06:44We're always going to get criticized for what we do.
00:06:47We're never going to be good enough for somebody.
00:06:49Great.
00:06:49I don't think it's fair to pick on her.
00:06:53Gretchen, you showed us you were serious
00:06:55about this competition from day one.
00:06:58Your fashions and your determination
00:07:00impressed us throughout the season.
00:07:02Let's take a look.
00:07:03Gretchen is talented and very confident.
00:07:05I am a sustainable clothing designer
00:07:08based out of Portland, Oregon.
00:07:10My design aesthetic is one part contemporary minimalist art
00:07:15and one part 1970s bohemian.
00:07:19For this challenge, we had a rare unanimous decision.
00:07:23Gretchen, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:07:26It was just perfectly done.
00:07:28Bravo.
00:07:31First of all, congratulations on being the first designer
00:07:34to make the Wall of Fame.
00:07:37So now you have a tough act to follow.
00:07:39Ah, yes.
00:07:41It's really simple, sophisticated.
00:07:43I like the effortless ease.
00:07:46Congratulations.
00:07:47You're once again the winner of this challenge.
00:07:50Gretchen has just won, not one, but two of the challenges.
00:07:53It's pretty impressive.
00:07:54I feel like she's super on top of her game.
00:07:56What is important for me is to stay really true
00:08:01to my own aesthetic, regardless of the challenge.
00:08:04I wrote fabulous.
00:08:06I think you use yourself genuinely as a template,
00:08:09and it shows.
00:08:13For your next challenge, I will be your client.
00:08:16So why don't you just make it out of the fabric
00:08:18that is in the line so it goes with the rest?
00:08:20I don't want you wasting time without the fabric.
00:08:22You want to win.
00:08:22I want to win.
00:08:23Get it out of here.
00:08:25I just think that the execution and how she put it together
00:08:29is a disaster.
00:08:31It looks very forced.
00:08:32Your styling is not helping you.
00:08:37I'm so confused.
00:08:39What happened?
00:08:40I want to get back to how I design and what I design,
00:08:44and for some reason I'm just kind of sick of the challenges,
00:08:48and I guess it caught the best of me.
00:08:50I think she's lost her confidence.
00:08:52Or maybe she ran out of ideas, too.
00:08:55Although I'm feeling nervous and extremely tired,
00:08:59my gut just says, keep pushing.
00:09:02I've asked for this.
00:09:03I've asked to get the opportunity to show America what I can do.
00:09:09Oh, my God!
00:09:11I think any fashion designer that's a, you know, a girl like me,
00:09:15coming from nothing, that's what you dream of.
00:09:18My mom's going to be so proud.
00:09:20I want it.
00:09:25Londo, you and Michael Costello
00:09:27had quite a profound relationship evolution.
00:09:30I'm putting you into teams of two.
00:09:33Michael C.
00:09:35And...
00:09:36Oh, my God.
00:09:36I do not want to be on Michael C.'s team.
00:09:40Londo.
00:09:40Oh, yay.
00:09:43I feel like I want to scream.
00:09:45I'm not really excited about this
00:09:47because your construction is awful.
00:09:50I was a jerk because I was judging him by hearsay, you know?
00:09:54And when I had to hand over my work to him,
00:09:57I was scared.
00:09:58I was really scared.
00:09:59So I, you know, had a bitch moment.
00:10:01I really did.
00:10:01And then, you know, but I had to make a conscious decision
00:10:05to approach it as a professional, you know?
00:10:08You came around.
00:10:09Yes, I came around.
00:10:09And you said it, which was nice.
00:10:10I'm sorry for being such a bitch, but...
00:10:12That's okay.
00:10:14Yes.
00:10:15I love Michael.
00:10:16Like, I really understand that he is such a hard worker.
00:10:20And you know what?
00:10:20I can really respect that about him.
00:10:22Well, Michael, you've had the last laugh.
00:10:25I mean, congratulations.
00:10:26I don't want to laugh, but I feel...
00:10:27Well, I'm speaking metaphorically.
00:10:29Yes, I'm happy at where I made it.
00:10:30Congratulations.
00:10:31And they know exactly how happy I am for him.
00:10:34We've all talked about it before.
00:10:35Sometimes you just make a wrong first impression
00:10:37and then you learn from that, you know?
00:10:40You learn about people and you learn from it.
00:10:42For all of the drama, all of the Sturm und Drang,
00:10:45you all really came together and were there for each other.
00:10:48And I found that to be very moving this season
00:10:50and, frankly, quite unusual.
00:10:53Mondo, your colorful style and unique voice clearly show through in your designs.
00:10:57And your presence here has touched all of us.
00:11:01Let's have a look.
00:11:03Mondo knocked my socks off at the auditions.
00:11:06It remains to be seen if the judges agree.
00:11:08Mondo, how you doing?
00:11:09Mondo, excellent. I almost wore the same thing.
00:11:10People's first impressions of me probably are that he's a little strange.
00:11:14But I think if you're misunderstood, then you have something really good going on.
00:11:19Mondo, my first impression is a weird guy.
00:11:22I feel like this gift in talent is a curse to me sometimes.
00:11:26After the fatigue, I was feeling like I was going to get well.
00:11:29And you didn't. And it was like, pow!
00:11:31You blew me away. Go big. Be you.
00:11:35Mondo is definitely wackadoo, but it works for him.
00:11:38It has a great spirit.
00:11:39It has energy. It has bounce. It has confidence.
00:11:42I'm feeling a lot more comfortable now, so it's a good thing.
00:11:46I think the dress looks really tough and cool.
00:11:51Mondo, tell us about your look.
00:11:52I just wanted to keep it really smart and sleek.
00:11:54I didn't mean your model. I meant you.
00:11:56Oh, my look?
00:11:57Oh, wow.
00:12:00It's fun, yet it's still elegant chic.
00:12:03Mondo, you are the clear winner of this challenge.
00:12:08This is a really phenomenal dress.
00:12:10You are the winner of this challenge.
00:12:11Yes.
00:12:1220 grand.
00:12:13I never thought that I would be here, but I'm a dreamer.
00:12:15It's been such a long journey.
00:12:17What inspired the pearl?
00:12:18I just kind of pulled from who I was and who I am going to be in the future.
00:12:25Wow.
00:12:26It's terrific.
00:12:27I love the way that you're not scared of mixing prints or colors.
00:12:31There's a sharpness to it, and it has joy.
00:12:34I wish I knew what the story was.
00:12:36I've been HIV positive for 10 years, and so I wanted to pull from the past, but I also wanted
00:12:43to give something back of who I am now and that I've been so scared of and hiding from.
00:12:55Thank you for sharing that with us, Mondo.
00:12:59I, you know, I feel a lot better.
00:13:03I feel free.
00:13:05I like that he goes a little bit outside the box and he doesn't do what is expected.
00:13:09It's obvious that Mondo really steps up to the plate.
00:13:13He does.
00:13:14Congratulations.
00:13:15You are the winner of this challenge.
00:13:18I've won three in a row now, and I'm excited.
00:13:21This is what I came to do.
00:13:23Uh-huh.
00:13:28When I've been asked this season, um, from people, what is this cast really like?
00:13:34Oh, man.
00:13:35Personalities to beat the band.
00:13:43She's more like Jackie Yeo than Jackie O.
00:13:46Word.
00:13:48Oh.
00:13:48Yay!
00:13:50When Diane von Furstenberg first moved here, this is what she was envisioning.
00:13:55He's either an idiot savant or just an idiot.
00:13:57I'm making clothes for all ladies.
00:14:00No, you're not.
00:14:00No, you're not.
00:14:02I'm even getting fat.
00:14:03I thought I'd do a really short pencil skirt.
00:14:06What do you mean really short?
00:14:07You know, to show the good china.
00:14:09You know, to sort of fit in the color palette.
00:14:12Oh, they're animal woolly balls.
00:14:14Yes.
00:14:15Well, that doesn't work for me.
00:14:18Then what do you have?
00:14:19I have real balls.
00:14:25You know what I mean.
00:14:26I prefer the woolly balls.
00:14:27I do, too.
00:14:34I have to say, really, one reason why this season has been so successful is because you guys are all
00:14:40real.
00:14:40And because you let your emotions go.
00:14:42And you are free.
00:14:43And you spoke your mind.
00:14:46And you were just being you.
00:14:48I think we made ourselves vulnerable.
00:14:49I think that's why it was so freaking dramatic and good.
00:14:52We made ourselves very vulnerable.
00:14:53Seventeen rare hothouse flowers.
00:15:00Oh, my God!
00:15:01Oh, my freaking God!
00:15:03I thought it!
00:15:04Oh, my God, Mom!
00:15:05That's so terrible!
00:15:10By the way, everyone's bawling like little babies.
00:15:14These have to be their mother.
00:15:19Hello, gorgeous!
00:15:22So, now I'm a blithering idiot.
00:15:25I got so scared you weren't going to be able to come.
00:15:29I'm, like, so happy to have her here.
00:15:35I miss you so much.
00:15:38Emotionally, I'm just drained.
00:15:41I'm tired, and I do feel like I've run out of steam a little bit.
00:15:46Like, everybody was just going after me out there, and it just felt like .
00:15:50It felt so bad.
00:15:51Hi.
00:15:51Come over here, man.
00:15:53Oh, you know I took a little more.
00:15:58I'm sorry.
00:16:01I've never laughed so much, or cried so hard, or been so stressed, or had such a crazy good time.
00:16:08All in one experience.
00:16:14Wow.
00:16:16I'm not the only ones emotional.
00:16:19I did not cry until now.
00:16:21Geez.
00:16:22Now that we have our three finalists sitting right here, who do you all think is going to win?
00:16:27Three-way tie.
00:16:28Done.
00:16:29That would be lovely.
00:16:30I would love that, Sarah.
00:16:31I think if I've learned anything from this whole process, it's that I can't even answer that question because I
00:16:37don't have a clue.
00:16:38Yeah, seriously.
00:16:38Because I don't.
00:16:39Three very talented designers.
00:16:40Very talented.
00:16:41Very talented.
00:16:41Very talented designers.
00:16:43And we're yet about to see what this collection is all about that you guys are still working on right
00:16:48now.
00:16:49I need to get our three finalists back to the workroom so they can finish up their collections.
00:16:54I think so.
00:16:54So it's been wonderful, wonderful to have all of you here together at our reunion.
00:16:59And it's been wonderful to share thoughts and just to see you all again.
00:17:05Thank you so much.
00:17:06Thank you to all of you.
00:17:07And I'm going to see you three on the big, big, big, big, big, big runway.
00:17:15Andy, Gretchen, Mondov, head back to the workroom.
00:17:18Thank you guys.
00:17:31Coming up on Project One Way.
00:17:33I'm not feeling you in this.
00:17:35I find this really disturbing.
00:17:37I just don't see it.
00:17:39Next stop, fashion week.
00:17:41Do you have all your girls?
00:17:42I am not sure yet.
00:17:43We're still waiting on Vanessa.
00:17:45Hello, everybody.
00:17:58I think the reunion really reminded us just how much we've gone through and how much has
00:18:02happened throughout the season.
00:18:03But at the same time, it's like I'm still working on this collection and I'm just focused
00:18:06on me.
00:18:07How are you doing, Andy?
00:18:08Playing with options.
00:18:09A lot of the critique was based on me not showing them my best.
00:18:14I see two evening looks and then a bathing suit that's supposed to give me the impression
00:18:19that you have had some range here.
00:18:21It's there.
00:18:21If it's all short, decorated clothes, they start to all look the same.
00:18:27I have a lot still stored up that they hopefully will love.
00:18:31What are you going to do with yours?
00:18:32I think if I make this more streamlined and put a high heel with it and style it.
00:18:39Uncasually.
00:18:40Yeah.
00:18:40The bottom line is, what the judges want is more drama in the styling.
00:18:44And I can do that.
00:18:51Zipper split.
00:18:52Oh, no.
00:18:53I have a million things to do, but I know if I start forcing it, I'm going to screw up.
00:19:02So I'm here to check in with you.
00:19:03I want to hear about the critique.
00:19:05I want to hear about the current state of your collections.
00:19:07And help you all get buoyed up for your big finale.
00:19:12As you know, you created an 11th look for the judges to evaluate.
00:19:17A look needs to be removed from your collection because only 10 looks will walk the runway.
00:19:22So how's Mondo?
00:19:24Good.
00:19:25Tell me what you heard the judges say to you.
00:19:27They said, I walk a fine line of costumes.
00:19:30I love the theatricality that you bring to a show.
00:19:34Having said that, I don't want people to not take you seriously and think that you're putting on a circus
00:19:40collection.
00:19:40I think the reality is you want to be true to yourself as a designer, but I hope there's some
00:19:46balance.
00:19:46But they also said that they really appreciated my showmanship, so I don't know.
00:19:51I was criticized for being too costumey, but you know what?
00:19:54I've been doing something right because I've always been in the top.
00:19:57I showed this look and Heidi loved it.
00:20:03It's spectacular.
00:20:04But Michael Kors kept on saying, is there anything solid in your collection?
00:20:08You know, so for the finale, I made this gown.
00:20:14I'm not feeling you in this.
00:20:16This is what I love so much about the overscale polka dot dress is that it is your nod to
00:20:21evening while still maintaining you.
00:20:24I'm getting rid of my gown and I'm going to end with the polka dot bubble dress.
00:20:28Evening wear is interpreted so many different ways.
00:20:32I think I add a new flavor and I'm going to show the judges exactly what I have to serve.
00:20:37I'm excited.
00:20:38It is a show.
00:20:39It's a show.
00:20:39That's it.
00:20:41It's you.
00:20:42Don't compromise for a second.
00:20:43Mondo's is so different.
00:20:44I'm wondering what the judges are going to think of that.
00:20:47If it's going to look rich or if it's going to look overdone.
00:20:50All right, Mondo.
00:20:51Thank you so much.
00:20:52Michael Kors said that you have to treat this runway like it's your last runway.
00:20:56And you know what?
00:20:57This is my last runway.
00:20:58I'm treating it exactly like that.
00:21:00Andy, may I interrupt you?
00:21:02Sure.
00:21:02Tell me about what happened with the judges and what you heard them say.
00:21:06Their favorite was this look.
00:21:10The 11th look.
00:21:11Yeah.
00:21:11And I also showed my simple bathing suit.
00:21:14Because I do have something that's more designed and avant-garde.
00:21:18And what did they say about the bathing suit?
00:21:19They didn't like it.
00:21:20They thought it was kind of a throwaway piece.
00:21:22The bathing suit looks, I am taking one out for sure.
00:21:26So this bathing suit I'm planning on showing with this.
00:21:30So it's one shoulder.
00:21:31It's a one shoulder.
00:21:32This looks so much like hair.
00:21:35Seeing it grow up out of this crotch, I find really disturbing.
00:21:41Wow.
00:21:41Okay, I'm going to take a few steps back and look at this.
00:21:43Take some steps back.
00:21:44Tim says the one piece kind of looks like hair growing out of your crotch.
00:21:48But I just don't see it.
00:21:51I don't want this to distract people from the beauty of the other pieces.
00:21:56Mm-hmm.
00:21:57Listen to your own voice.
00:21:58I will.
00:21:59Okay.
00:22:00It's gotten me this far.
00:22:00Andy's collection looks very two-dimensional.
00:22:03I don't feel like there's a lot of texture and a lot of depth.
00:22:06Gretchen.
00:22:07Hi, Tim.
00:22:08So what did you hear the judges say to you?
00:22:12I didn't get very good reviews for my 11th look.
00:22:15What did they say?
00:22:17Nina told me that it looked like a potato sack.
00:22:20So I don't think I'm going to use it.
00:22:22Okay.
00:22:22They weren't in love with it.
00:22:23And I think part of that was because it was casual.
00:22:26Hmm.
00:22:26You have to give these girls a little more oomph from the hair, from the makeup, from the shoes.
00:22:31I don't know where you're going to get it from.
00:22:33I don't know if you have it.
00:22:34I want to relate to the girls that I want to be purchasing me, but Nina's point was that
00:22:40that can be more fantasy.
00:22:42So they want to minimize the accessible and heighten the aspirational.
00:22:49Yes.
00:22:49I'm still learning how to really pump up the drama.
00:22:52It's brighten your lipstick, do crazier hair, and throw some heels in.
00:22:57You are superbly organized.
00:22:59You know what you're doing.
00:23:00So trust your instincts.
00:23:01I trust my instincts and believe in myself as the designer I am.
00:23:05That's all I can be.
00:23:06That's music to my ears.
00:23:07Thank you, Gretchen.
00:23:08I've always thought Gretchen is very simple.
00:23:11And her work is beautiful, but I don't know if the judges will be interested in the show.
00:23:18Coming up on Project Runway.
00:23:20It's never going to be over.
00:23:21I'm going to be tweaking things and making decisions and changing until the models walk the runway.
00:23:26You're my girl's gent, Sheila.
00:23:27Are you kidding?
00:23:28Left.
00:23:37All right designers, thank you for letting me check in with each of you and see your fabulous collections.
00:23:43A little bit of business.
00:23:44Peter Butler, consulting hair stylist for Garnier, and Collier Strong, consulting makeup artist for L'Oreal Paris, are here to
00:23:51consult with you about your big finale.
00:23:53Your models will be coming in, all ten of them, for fittings.
00:23:57Use the Piper Lime accessory wall very thoughtfully.
00:24:00You have until midnight tonight, very little time tomorrow.
00:24:06So a lot has to be completed today.
00:24:09I just want to say, from where I stand, we have three winners.
00:24:14I am so excited for each of you about the power of your collections.
00:24:20And you couldn't be more different.
00:24:22Those judges are going to have a run for their money.
00:24:24And that's a really good thing.
00:24:27So I'm going to leave you and I will see you later.
00:24:30Okay?
00:24:31Thank you, Tim.
00:24:33Hello.
00:24:34Hey Mondo, how are you?
00:24:35Good to see you.
00:24:36Probably just something really sleek and a high bun.
00:24:40Let's just do some volumizing spray.
00:24:43And I have these, like, little hats that I can put right in the top.
00:24:47Yeah, I love that girl.
00:24:49Yeah, that's so cute.
00:24:51They have these orbiting their face.
00:24:53So I almost want it as clean as possible.
00:24:55Sure.
00:24:55I would take Sleek and Shine hair spray and kind of blow-dry it apart.
00:25:01So you're happy with that?
00:25:02Yeah, I'm really happy with it.
00:25:03Oh good, I'm excited.
00:25:04Hi!
00:25:05How's it going?
00:25:06How's it going?
00:25:07The judges want more drama in the styling.
00:25:09So I knew exactly what I wanted with hair.
00:25:12Almost like flat hat head on the base.
00:25:14Still a little bit tousled.
00:25:16So you're happy with the shape?
00:25:17You love the look?
00:25:18I love it.
00:25:19Bye.
00:25:20Bye.
00:25:25Hi.
00:25:26This model fitting is a lot more important than any other fitting I've ever done.
00:25:29Green, I'm going to try in a few things.
00:25:30Every model and every piece is going to be really important.
00:25:35I think it's beautiful.
00:25:38It's so pretty.
00:25:39I love it.
00:25:40I do too.
00:25:41It sets you like a million bucks.
00:25:43Yeah.
00:25:43This is out.
00:25:44Really?
00:25:46I was thinking when they were talking last night.
00:25:48I thought this was the...
00:25:50Solid.
00:25:51The breadth.
00:25:51I have pieces in my collection that I feel like are little breathers.
00:25:55Just because a couple judges don't like what I'm doing.
00:25:59Everybody has their own taste.
00:26:01You're going to wear the same thing that you wore last night.
00:26:03Oh, cool.
00:26:03I'm going to end with Tina Marie walking in the polka dot bubble gown.
00:26:07It's amazing.
00:26:08I think it's good.
00:26:09I love it.
00:26:09I told myself that I wouldn't change my mind on this dress.
00:26:11I'm really happy that I made it.
00:26:14And I wouldn't change a thing.
00:26:16Hey, how are you?
00:26:17Good to see you.
00:26:18I almost want to do a nude lip but not like washed out.
00:26:21Right.
00:26:21I'm going to use some infallible plumping lip gloss.
00:26:24It's very nude, fleshy.
00:26:26Yeah.
00:26:26What do you think?
00:26:27I like it.
00:26:28I want to keep it Latina inspired.
00:26:30So like a really heavy cat eye.
00:26:32I'm using Hip Platinum Duo.
00:26:35It's perfect to set this liner.
00:26:36So I'm going to use this gold shade.
00:26:38Put a really heavy application of it all over the eyelids.
00:26:41It looks really metallic.
00:26:43What do you think?
00:26:44I love it.
00:26:44What I envisioned was sun-kissed like on the nose.
00:26:48Like they've been walking through the Sahara.
00:26:50This is Project Runway.
00:26:52And there is a level of presentation that maybe isn't totally true to my aesthetic.
00:26:57And I'm willing to adapt to that.
00:26:59This is coloration volcanic.
00:27:00We use this as a base.
00:27:02I think it's great.
00:27:03It's totally perfect.
00:27:08Are you folded?
00:27:10Yeah.
00:27:10Are you?
00:27:11Of course I am.
00:27:12I really want my models to feel comfortable and have fun in what they're wearing.
00:27:18All right.
00:27:19Cute.
00:27:20Okay.
00:27:21This is what you're going to wear.
00:27:23I think possibly one of my greatest strengths is planning.
00:27:26So you will try on both of these.
00:27:28I feel really, really good looking at ten models in a row.
00:27:32Perfect.
00:27:33Yeah.
00:27:33I tend to know what girl I want and what look and I'll make it work.
00:27:39These pants.
00:27:40Okay.
00:27:40And then we have a jacket for you too.
00:27:42I have a few girls that I'm still playing with the idea of which outfit they're going to wear.
00:27:47It's never going to be over.
00:27:49I'm going to be tweaking things and making decisions and changing until the models walk the runway.
00:27:54Thank you so much.
00:27:58Are you all done now?
00:27:59I'm done with fittings.
00:28:00How do you feel?
00:28:02Good.
00:28:03You're my girl's dentilla.
00:28:05Are you kidding?
00:28:06Left.
00:28:07I have had a lot of issues with the models.
00:28:12I'm just going to figure it out tomorrow.
00:28:14Tomorrow I will be showing at Lincoln Center.
00:28:17The world is going to submit work and it's nerve-wracking.
00:28:20I'm going to force myself to sleep tonight because I know tomorrow is such a big day.
00:28:24I'm so excited.
00:28:25I can't believe that this is happening.
00:28:27You guys all ready?
00:28:28Yeah.
00:28:29I feel really prepared.
00:28:31Everything's done.
00:28:32Everything's pressed.
00:28:33I want to win to prove to myself that all this work has not been for nothing.
00:28:44It's the night before our show.
00:28:46This is like, it's special.
00:28:49It's like I don't even know how to explain this feeling that it's like excitement and all.
00:28:52This whole process, we didn't know what was going to come next, but now we know what's going to go
00:28:56down.
00:28:57Just think of where we started.
00:28:59We didn't know each other at all.
00:29:00We never had been in this sort of environment at all.
00:29:03Hi, Gretchen.
00:29:05Nice to meet you.
00:29:06Welcome to Lincoln Center.
00:29:09Three of you will be showing your final collections here in the fall.
00:29:13How many challenges?
00:29:14Thirteen?
00:29:15Thirteen.
00:29:16Thirteen challenges just to get here.
00:29:18It's been a long journey and we've all grown so much.
00:29:23So to be at the end of the road, it's exciting, but it's also very sad at the same time
00:29:29because we've grown attached to each other.
00:29:31But look how far we've come.
00:29:32I just feel like I don't even, I haven't even, you know, like there's so many different levels of what...
00:29:39revelation means for this journey.
00:29:42I've learned so much during this whole thing.
00:29:46About...
00:29:47About what you can accomplish when you really want something to happen.
00:29:52I know that in my heart, I really want this.
00:29:55Um, and I've played the quiet one that kind of is okay with everything, but it's so important for me
00:30:02to win.
00:30:03Win.
00:30:06This has been really hard and really challenging and really humbling and really scary. I'm scared.
00:30:17I just feel like I've learned so much here.
00:30:20I want this so bad that I taste it and I just don't want to fail.
00:30:28Whatever happens, I know that I'm going to walk away from this experience, a better person and I couldn't be
00:30:40more grateful.
00:30:43Coming up on Project Runway.
00:30:45This is the last runway.
00:30:47Oh my gosh.
00:30:47Oh my god.
00:30:49The line-up is totally jacked up. It's so much pressure.
00:30:53Andy.
00:30:53Yes.
00:30:54You've got to make a decision now.
00:30:56Hello everybody.
00:31:12You ready?
00:31:14As tired as I am, the adrenaline is kicking in now.
00:31:17And the excitement and the realization that we're really going to go to Fashion Week this morning.
00:31:22And this is it. This is what we've worked so hard to get to and it's exciting.
00:31:28Oh, it's just another day for us on Project Runway.
00:31:31It's just a big day.
00:31:33You really look like a million dollars.
00:31:37I've lost weight.
00:31:38Me too.
00:31:38Believe it or not.
00:31:40Here we go.
00:31:40Ready?
00:31:41Yep.
00:31:42Come on, Fashion Week.
00:31:43Fashion Week.
00:31:47Yeah!
00:31:50If I like really let myself think about it, I get like weepy.
00:31:54This has been really hard and really challenging and really humbling and really scary. I'm scared.
00:32:02No one's around. It's just us walking and it's quiet.
00:32:06We're back.
00:32:08Amazing.
00:32:09From here on out, I don't know what's coming but I know it's going to be great.
00:32:13Oh, it's fabric.
00:32:17This is the big one. This is for the big prize.
00:32:22We are in the 10th at Fashion Week.
00:32:26Yes, we are.
00:32:32Oh, my God.
00:32:34This is a little bigger than a regular runway.
00:32:37It's slightly bigger.
00:32:38A little.
00:32:45We're finally here.
00:32:46Right?
00:33:02I made a new pair of pants.
00:33:04You excited?
00:33:06Yeah, you excited?
00:33:07I changed that look. You're wearing shorts now.
00:33:09Okay.
00:33:11Are all your models here?
00:33:13Have you checked in with your Wrangler?
00:33:15Uh, no.
00:33:22Alright, I am having a real issue with this.
00:33:25The way I gave you these.
00:33:28And I know this is not the order I handed them to you.
00:33:31I'm a little nervous for Mondo.
00:33:32The line-up is totally jacked up and I don't know their names.
00:33:36I'm kind of freaking out just because it's intense.
00:33:39The order of the list is not correct at all.
00:33:42I've worked so hard and this is...
00:33:44This is it. I don't want to freak out but...
00:33:47It's so much pressure.
00:34:00It's okay.
00:34:01Are you alright?
00:34:03Yeah, I'm fine.
00:34:04It's like you really need to be weighing in on your models and hair and makeup.
00:34:07Not just here.
00:34:08I know you want to get your looks organized.
00:34:09I know you want to tell your dressers what to do.
00:34:12I just... I know.
00:34:14I don't want it to crash and burn here.
00:34:16Alright, thank you.
00:34:17Really and truly.
00:34:18You know?
00:34:19This is so important.
00:34:20I know.
00:34:21Go move back and forth.
00:34:22Back and forth, back and forth, okay?
00:34:33Andy, are you concerned about the fact that all this sewing is happening?
00:34:37Yes.
00:34:37These pants, I decided to use them.
00:34:39Put everybody to work.
00:34:40Yeah, I will.
00:34:41Alright, thank you.
00:34:46Do you have all your girls?
00:34:48I am not sure yet.
00:34:49I haven't.
00:34:50I want you to find out because they need to be in hair and makeup now.
00:34:54Excuse me, are all my girls?
00:34:55Hi.
00:34:55All my girls here?
00:34:56We're still waiting on Vanessa.
00:34:58Alright.
00:34:58Another model just doesn't show up.
00:35:00This is Alessandra.
00:35:01Hi there.
00:35:01And she is going to...
00:35:02How's it going?
00:35:03Alright.
00:35:04So, we pull in an alternate with short hair.
00:35:07Hi, I have an alternate stepping in.
00:35:09She has no hair.
00:35:10It wasn't as cohesive as I wish it would have been.
00:35:14I think it'll all be fine.
00:35:15Alright.
00:35:15Yeah.
00:35:16Alright, cool.
00:35:16Yeah, don't worry about it.
00:35:20Bye.
00:35:21It's crazy backstage.
00:35:22I'm running back and forth to hair and makeup.
00:35:24And I'm sewing at one moment.
00:35:25I'm pressing another moment.
00:35:26I'm steaming.
00:35:27I'm clipping threads.
00:35:27I'm fitting.
00:35:29It's insane.
00:35:30Andy.
00:35:31Yes.
00:35:32You've got to make a decision now.
00:35:35These pants are a mess.
00:35:37Okay.
00:35:37I'm just going to say it.
00:35:38How many people agree with me?
00:35:40Skirts.
00:35:47Once I turn that corner,
00:35:48I'm just going to let everybody see a part of my soul.
00:35:51And I have nothing to hide.
00:35:54I feel really excited going right over.
00:36:02Hello everybody.
00:36:04Welcome to our big finale of Project Runway.
00:36:07Season 8.
00:36:23Hello everybody.
00:36:25Welcome to our big finale of Project Runway.
00:36:29Season 8.
00:36:30Season 8.
00:36:31And what a season it has been.
00:36:33I don't think I've ever gotten so emotional and so attached to our designers than ever before.
00:36:39So thank you to all of our designers first and foremost.
00:36:42Now I would like to introduce our judges.
00:36:44Mr. Michael Kors.
00:36:47Welcome.
00:36:50Nina Garcia.
00:36:54And a big thank you to our special guest judge today, Jessica Simpson.
00:36:57Thank you for coming.
00:37:01Enjoy the show.
00:37:06It's closed but it's also everything to me and I just hope that I've been able to represent that well.
00:37:12So, fingers are crossed.
00:37:22I'm just really excited that my mom and sister are here.
00:37:26And my best friends.
00:37:28This collection is about the road that I have taken.
00:37:32It's called Running Through Thunder.
00:37:34So, I hope you enjoy.
00:38:06Regardless of what happens, I really feel like I did the best job I could and the best job I've
00:38:11ever done.
00:38:12I feel really excited.
00:38:14To be able to create a collection like I did is huge.
00:38:18I couldn't be happier.
00:38:21Beautiful.
00:38:22You should feel exceedingly proud.
00:38:24I do, I do.
00:38:26You should.
00:38:26I feel like it's me and as good as I can do.
00:38:30Congratulations.
00:38:33It feels so right.
00:38:35It's like the first sip of a drink you really want.
00:38:40Like seeing these girls walk the runway makes me eager to do it again.
00:39:29So, I'mather Island.
00:40:37This is the ultimate dream for my mom to see me at Fashion Week, and she's willing to sacrifice everything
00:40:45to see me make it and to win.
00:40:48That would mean the world to her, and it would mean the world to me.
00:41:05This is just so amazing to me to be here, and I just feel very honored to be a part
00:41:09of this group that has made it this far.
00:41:11My collection is really inspired by my heritage and my background.
00:41:15Hi, Mom.
00:41:17This is for you. I love you.
00:42:11You should feel so hugely proud of what you have achieved.
00:42:16I love you.
00:42:17I love you.
00:42:17I love you.
00:42:18I love you.
00:42:24I love you.
00:42:28I love you.
00:42:30I love you.
00:43:02I love you.
00:43:05I love you.
00:43:15I love you.
00:43:20I love you.
00:43:25I love you.
00:43:27I love you.
00:43:40Come on, come on, come on
00:44:35This collection is such a
00:44:39self-reflection of who I am and
00:44:41everything that brings me joy.
00:44:43And I feel like even though there's so much pain,
00:44:47my fashion is my dream world.
00:44:50Hi, everybody.
00:44:53I'm Mondo.
00:44:54And, you know, my inspiration just came from what I know,
00:44:57what I love, my Mexican heritage.
00:45:00And I'd really like to thank all my friends, my family.
00:45:04I love them for their support.
00:45:06I couldn't do it without you.
00:45:07And I dedicate this collection to my spiritual guide,
00:45:11my grandmother, Betty.
00:45:57Even though I love every single piece that I've done, it's my work.
00:46:01And so I'm looking at every little detail and being like,
00:46:03oh, maybe I should have done that.
00:46:06Portions are great.
00:46:08Oh, she's gorgeous.
00:46:09Yeah.
00:46:09And I love this look.
00:46:12It's just awesome to share such an amazing part of what I've done.
00:46:17And I'm just so excited.
00:46:19It is just a dream come true.
00:46:23And.
00:46:23You're mean, you or say,
00:46:44Well, if you're looking at everything,
00:46:46But I love Martin Yahweh.
00:46:46My son, I definitely feel scadımford.
00:46:46My son, I wasritioned.
00:46:46I loved them and that's all.
00:46:49You're dirty.
00:46:49My son, I wasTV тоже.
00:48:21One, Mando and Gretchen.
00:48:23I adore the looks that she creates.
00:48:25It's like every woman would want to look like that and wear those clothes.
00:48:28Mama!
00:48:29You were beautiful.
00:48:31Gretchen's was airy, flowy, magical almost.
00:48:34I love the prints and the sophistication.
00:48:36I thought it was very impressive, for sure.
00:48:41Coming up on Project Runway.
00:48:43It was very monotone.
00:48:44You need to add a lot more sophistication.
00:48:47We verge into costume territory.
00:48:49I did want to see that pop, extravagant piece.
00:49:00I have to say that that was a really great show today.
00:49:02They all really showed their distinct sense of style.
00:49:08They really evolved as designers.
00:49:10You could tell that they were all very passionate about every piece of clothing that they made,
00:49:15and that's really what it's about.
00:49:16Let's bring out the designers.
00:49:27Welcome back to the runway.
00:49:28We were blown away with what you showed us today.
00:49:32Three great designers with three different points of view.
00:49:36Congratulations.
00:49:37Each show was so distinctively specific to your design aesthetics.
00:49:42I didn't need to see you to know that it was yours,
00:49:45and that is a fantastic thing.
00:49:47So, bravo.
00:49:50Congratulations, guys, for making it this far,
00:49:52and regardless of who wins today, you guys are all stars.
00:49:57You did an excellent job.
00:49:59I loved so many pieces,
00:50:02so hopefully I'll be wearing them on a red carpet someday.
00:50:06As you know, only one of you can be the winner of Project Runway.
00:50:10The winner will receive $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line,
00:50:14a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine,
00:50:16a $50,000 technology suite from HP and Intel
00:50:19to create their vision and run their business,
00:50:22the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection on PiperLime.com,
00:50:26and a year of representation from designers' management agency.
00:50:30Let's bring out your models.
00:50:39Andy, tell us about your line and your inspiration.
00:50:43My inspiration for this collection was the Buddha Park in Vientiane Laos,
00:50:48which is where my family is from.
00:50:49It's a place where there's just such beautiful textiles, beautiful metals,
00:50:53and I wanted to remain true to that,
00:50:55so I had a lot of the fabric come in from there.
00:50:57I loved that you took something that's very personal for you,
00:51:02and if you do an Asian-themed collection,
00:51:06it can turn into a costume, but this did not.
00:51:09The opening pants were great.
00:51:12I loved both one-shoulder dresses
00:51:14because there was work in them,
00:51:17but they were deceptively simple,
00:51:19but they were interesting.
00:51:20So I thought those two dresses were really terrific.
00:51:23I didn't feel that there was really that much diversity,
00:51:28so I felt it was a little narrow in the focus,
00:51:31but overall I thought it looked great.
00:51:33I wasn't particularly super happy with the first look when it came out.
00:51:37I always want to be, whoa.
00:51:39Okay.
00:51:40And there were a lot of things that were sassy
00:51:42and a little bit more plugged-in looking.
00:51:43Like, for example, I love the green dress that you whipped up.
00:51:48I also like the top that kind of weaved together.
00:51:53I thought that that was very interesting.
00:51:55I know that this has been an evolution for you.
00:52:00Everything that we saw from you since the beginning,
00:52:03so hard and edgy,
00:52:06so I was happy to see the softness.
00:52:10However, I almost feel like somebody took over you completely
00:52:15and you lost Andy somewhere in here.
00:52:19I didn't think so.
00:52:20Now, there are pieces here that I really love.
00:52:23For example, that jacket.
00:52:25I love the cut of the jacket.
00:52:27I love the detail of it.
00:52:29I do think that you went a little overboard with this Orientalism.
00:52:34It's taken over where I would have liked to see maybe a touch of it
00:52:39maybe in the jacket with something a little more edgy and more modern.
00:52:44Okay.
00:52:45Well, my favorite was the silver one shoulder,
00:52:48and I do think that it had an edge to it with the chains.
00:52:52It was one of my favorite dresses that I actually saw today.
00:52:56This, I would wear the jacket.
00:52:58I like mixing the fabrics,
00:53:00having it a little bit frilly and then having the structure.
00:53:03Awesome.
00:53:03You won me with that.
00:53:04And I love your outfit.
00:53:08Gretchen.
00:53:09The collection's called Running Through Thunder
00:53:11because this has been a really overwhelming
00:53:15and very challenging experience for me.
00:53:17And through that, I think there can be magic and inspiration.
00:53:22So that's kind of where I came from.
00:53:24Overall, I think you did a fantastic job.
00:53:26The prints were really nice, and you had a lot of choices.
00:53:31I mean, you had jackets, you had sweaters, you had pants, you had skirts.
00:53:36I loved your patchwork pants.
00:53:38I thought that was very cool.
00:53:40It felt very modern, and it felt very easy, which I liked.
00:53:45It was a complete ready-to-wear collection.
00:53:50I see that you listened to us and changed the hair and the makeup, and I love that you kind
00:53:55of bronzed the girls, and they looked sexier.
00:54:00They looked polished, however, it was very monotone, especially when it came to your prints.
00:54:07It would have been very nice to see a dash of color in there.
00:54:11I think it would have helped.
00:54:12I was also surprised with your opening look because I feel like the opening look should
00:54:17be the important piece that kind of summarizes your collection in one look.
00:54:22It felt weak.
00:54:24I like the vibe of the girl.
00:54:27I get her.
00:54:29It's not so easy to look that relaxed and easy.
00:54:33I think it's you, but I don't get where that slick, techie-looking leather comes into this
00:54:41vibe.
00:54:42Okay.
00:54:43You know?
00:54:43And tell me about the jewelry.
00:54:44Did you make this jewelry?
00:54:45Yeah.
00:54:46I designed it, and then I had it forged for me.
00:54:49I think the jewelry is gorgeous.
00:54:52I love the jewelry, too.
00:54:53I do, too.
00:54:54I think it's really cool.
00:54:55I would wear all of those pieces.
00:54:56They're really, really good.
00:54:58I love the feeling of the show, too.
00:55:00I just thought sometimes the prints were a little repetitive, but I got who this girl
00:55:04is, and she's a hip girl, and she's right now.
00:55:07My only concern would be if you saw everything on a rack in a department store, how many pieces
00:55:13would you buy?
00:55:14I did want to see that pop, extravagant piece, but I do think that you did a great job.
00:55:21Mondo.
00:55:21You know, I grew up in a Mexican Catholic family, and so I wanted to have elements of
00:55:26where my deep roots were, but also play with the symbolism.
00:55:30I did Day of the Dead, and I did a cross.
00:55:33And I was just inspired by what I've learned about who I am.
00:55:36Well, in Italian, it would be, you'd say, it was molto mondo.
00:55:40It was very mondo.
00:55:42You're never going to have a problem having things that are eye-catching and dramatic.
00:55:46It's your thing.
00:55:47There were a lot of very special and really loud pieces there, but there were also some
00:55:52very beautiful and quiet pieces there as well.
00:55:54I thought it was really great.
00:55:56One of my favorite pieces was the skull T-shirt that I liked a lot.
00:56:01So you did that all by yourself?
00:56:03Yeah, I drew out the skull, and I screen-printed, and then I hand-beaded it and studded it.
00:56:08All the jewelry, the headpieces, and all the beading was by me.
00:56:12I also really liked that tunic that had the pink around.
00:56:17Oh, yeah.
00:56:17That was all just cut work, and it was based on Aztec Pyramid.
00:56:22It looked like a very cohesive collection.
00:56:24You're very creative.
00:56:25I love your use of color.
00:56:27I love your mix of prints.
00:56:29The strapless little dress was adorable.
00:56:32However, it was too overwhelming in the decorative pieces.
00:56:40In the mix of prints and then the decoration in the hat, what happens is the collection starts
00:56:45looking very, very young.
00:56:47Your first look was my favorite look.
00:56:50That blouse, an older woman could pick that up.
00:56:53A younger woman could take those shorts.
00:56:55But when we continue with the skeletons and the leggings and the color, it just becomes really teenager.
00:57:04And what I think you need to add is a lot more sophistication.
00:57:08And the way to do that is really by editing down and give it a polish.
00:57:13All right.
00:57:14I love the personality of your collection.
00:57:17I thought everything was unique.
00:57:20It doesn't look like anybody else would make it but you.
00:57:22And I think that's what being a true designer is.
00:57:27It just looks like you put so much effort into every piece.
00:57:31I'm obsessed with that dress.
00:57:33Me too.
00:57:34I love it.
00:57:35We should go to a party together.
00:57:36We both wear it.
00:57:37You too.
00:57:38I told them that last week.
00:57:39To me, it's costumey.
00:57:41I was surprised that you chose this look again today for the runway.
00:57:45Because do you remember last week how Nina wasn't really into this polka dot dress and Michael wasn't really into
00:57:51this polka dress either.
00:57:52The only one that was into this polka dress was me.
00:57:55And now it's here again.
00:57:56Why would you choose this again?
00:57:57I just feel strongly about how once I saw Tina Marie walk in this dress, she gave such a life
00:58:04to it and such a beauty elegance and I felt that that was her dress.
00:58:08Because you had the same fabric in a top and I think you had a little silvery metallic skirt with
00:58:15that.
00:58:15It was leather that I painted.
00:58:17I loved that.
00:58:19I thought that was great because you gave her a relief of legs that helped that insane print.
00:58:28I like the print.
00:58:29And I have to go back to the plaid pants.
00:58:33You know, I mean, she's wearing humongous plaid pants.
00:58:37They're crazy pants.
00:58:38Crazy pants.
00:58:39But that's part of your thing.
00:58:43Yeah.
00:58:43But if you're going to have that much print, well then, a relief of skin.
00:58:48I loved that top with the skull on it and I love the tunic dress.
00:58:54You do love, though, drama and theater and that's something you should never lose as a designer.
00:59:01It's just sometimes we verge into costume territory.
00:59:04Okay.
00:59:05But it was really cohesive, very you, and you had variety out there.
00:59:11Mondo, why do you think you should be the winner of Project Runway?
00:59:14Through this whole experience, I feel like I've grown as a designer.
00:59:18And not only that, I feel like I've grown as a person.
00:59:23I love myself so much more.
00:59:25And with that love, I'm able to create and move forward and, you know, be the best that I can
00:59:31be.
00:59:33You're going to make me crack.
00:59:36Gretchen, why do you think you should be the winner of Project Runway?
00:59:39I, too, have grown as a person while being here.
00:59:42I've learned a lot about myself and my goals.
00:59:45At the same time, I've listened while also staying extremely true to myself.
00:59:49And if I had the opportunity to walk away the winner, I could immediately make you proud.
00:59:56And the next step after Project Runway is getting people in my clothing and I need help to do that.
01:00:02Andy, why do you think you should be the winner of Project Runway?
01:00:05Winning would be a really, really amazing dream come true because it means that I'd be able to start the
01:00:12big dream, I think.
01:00:13The same money and the chance to really take off, regardless of what happens today.
01:00:20Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
01:00:22I'm going to have a big chat and then I'm going to bring you back.
01:00:25You can leave the runway.
01:00:26All right, thank you.
01:00:38Congratulations, everybody.
01:00:39Yes.
01:00:40I can't believe we got through a crawl.
01:00:42That was an amazing experience.
01:00:44No matter what happens, I'm extremely excited and happy for whoever wins.
01:00:49It's truly a dream.
01:00:51It is a dream.
01:00:52It is a dream.
01:00:57Coming up on Project Runway.
01:00:58But we're four people and you have two people here that would actually wear this dress.
01:01:02Oh, no.
01:01:03I'm sorry, we're just split.
01:01:04I'd like to see you guys fight.
01:01:06Someone hand me my boxing gloves.
01:01:13We saw three designers with three very different looks today.
01:01:16And they have all fought to get here.
01:01:18Oh, yeah, listen, they're talented, they're tenacious, and they're a bit scrappy.
01:01:24And quite honestly, you've got to be all three.
01:01:27I think the simple truth is they wouldn't be standing here as our finalists on Project Runway
01:01:32if we didn't think they were incredibly talented.
01:01:35My favorite piece of Andy's was the green dress that he whipped together in the last challenge.
01:01:40It's a fabulous dress.
01:01:41I did like that pleated silver top with the little shorts.
01:01:47And I like, again, the green little miniskirt dress.
01:01:51I really do love that one silver dress with the chains.
01:01:55I thought that was amazing.
01:01:57But I also wanted to see more of him.
01:02:00And I think he knew that he was playing it a little bit too safe.
01:02:04Especially when you're in a competition.
01:02:06I would choose to be daring rather than to play it safe.
01:02:09We're not here to blend in.
01:02:10Nope.
01:02:11He needed to combine those pieces with some modern pieces or some Andy pieces.
01:02:15Well, yeah, exactly.
01:02:16He's done before.
01:02:17We have seen him do edgy and cool and all that.
01:02:19Did you guys scare him?
01:02:21He might have been scared, and maybe he turned the wheel too far.
01:02:25Plus, I don't think that those crazy, like, celestial headpieces were helping.
01:02:30No.
01:02:31You know.
01:02:31The only thing I have to say, though, when you really looked at the clothes,
01:02:35there was a lot of incredible work in the clothes.
01:02:38But I think the overall effect kind of numbed you out.
01:02:42And it had no bite.
01:02:45So I think we all agree that Andy is out.
01:02:48Yeah, I didn't think it worked.
01:02:51Gretchen, I really like her.
01:02:53I really do.
01:02:55As a designer, I would actually wear a lot of her clothes.
01:02:58She's got a good sensibility.
01:03:00She likes accessories.
01:03:02She makes those accessories herself.
01:03:04She's got a good eye.
01:03:05She's in tune with what's happening.
01:03:07She knows what's going on.
01:03:09Those clothes can work.
01:03:11They're on trend.
01:03:13You know, she stayed very true to the girl who she is as a designer and a woman.
01:03:20But she listened to us.
01:03:22We said to her, you've got to polish this thing up.
01:03:25Make it a show.
01:03:26And she did.
01:03:27I think there were some, you know, repetitive things going on with the rompers and the shorts.
01:03:31But she needed the legs.
01:03:33She needed the sexiness.
01:03:34She needed the sex.
01:03:35You have to accessorize it.
01:03:36You know, I think the hats helped.
01:03:37The jewelry helped.
01:03:38The makeup helped.
01:03:39So did the clothes need help by accessorizing them the right way?
01:03:43You know, I think simple clothes do need the right accessories.
01:03:46The jewelry was really good.
01:03:47The accessorizing was really on.
01:03:50The hats.
01:03:50I think she's got a very good eye, which is very important.
01:03:55I think she does too.
01:03:56She's in tune with what is happening in fashion now.
01:04:00Those clothes are current.
01:04:03I think the whole collection as a whole was memorable.
01:04:06It was a collection.
01:04:10You know what I like about Mondo?
01:04:12He has a little wink with his clothes.
01:04:15There's something that wows me when I see his clothes.
01:04:18He has incredible talent.
01:04:21He is extremely creative.
01:04:23I love the balloon dress.
01:04:25I thought that was really sweet, but still sophisticated at the same time.
01:04:29I loved this colorful top.
01:04:31I thought that dress was cute.
01:04:32I like how he adds color to the flag.
01:04:34He kept the polka dots as something consistent for the show.
01:04:39My favorite look besides the first one, which I thought was adorable,
01:04:45was the strapless little dress.
01:04:48That tunic dress.
01:04:49That had an easiness to it that didn't feel costumey.
01:04:53Because you could picture it, you know, in real life.
01:04:56The talent is there.
01:04:58I don't know if he's at that point yet, though, where he knows how to edit
01:05:02and turn that talent into something that actually is really going to work in real life.
01:05:08I think he showed that today with a lot of pieces.
01:05:11I think he had the wild pieces.
01:05:12I think he had the peaks and the valleys in his show.
01:05:15I think that he did show a lot of things that are very wearable.
01:05:19I think a black dress could have been his best friend.
01:05:21Mondo's definitely more of a showstopper.
01:05:23He's been always true to himself.
01:05:25He gave us these patterns, and he gave him the loud splashes of color.
01:05:29We told him.
01:05:30And we praised him for it.
01:05:32No, I did tell him, you're walking a fine line between those clothes looking like a circus act
01:05:40or really, you know, stepping it up and making them look sophisticated.
01:05:44I don't think he did listen to that.
01:05:46I think he's super talented.
01:05:48Oh, no doubt.
01:05:50Super creative.
01:05:51No doubt.
01:05:51I think that he needs some time.
01:05:55Gretchen versus Mondo.
01:05:57I do think they're both equally talented.
01:06:00I vote to make them both the winners.
01:06:04They both had complete collections.
01:06:06I just think, where is fashion going next?
01:06:09And what's newer?
01:06:11Well, with Gretchen and her runway show, is she just going to be more ready to wear?
01:06:17You know what?
01:06:18There are clothes that women can wear.
01:06:19How many different kinds of designers are there in the world?
01:06:22There's John Galliano making a couture ball gown, and then there's Michael Kors.
01:06:28But what I show, I make.
01:06:30And women wear.
01:06:31What about editorial?
01:06:32Both of them would be editorial.
01:06:34Hers as well as his.
01:06:36I personally think that I would buy more pieces from Mondo.
01:06:41I would too.
01:06:42I love fun things.
01:06:44Some people.
01:06:45I know, but you did want to wear all of Gretchen's jewelry.
01:06:47You liked it.
01:06:48I love the jewelry, yeah.
01:06:49But it's not a jewelry show.
01:06:51It's a fashion show.
01:06:52And it's about creativity and fashion.
01:06:54But Heidi, it's very subjective.
01:06:56It's like food.
01:06:57You like Chinese or Mexican?
01:06:58Do you like Chinese or Mexican?
01:06:59What do you like?
01:07:00I like all of it.
01:07:02I think his clothes slant a little young.
01:07:07I don't see who this woman is.
01:07:08I can't figure it out.
01:07:10While hers has a little more of a range.
01:07:14If I were buying for a department store, I would look at Gretchen's.
01:07:18Because it's safer.
01:07:19Not because it's safer.
01:07:21Because I'm going to be able to sell it.
01:07:22Most department stores are safe because it's about selling and being safe.
01:07:26But then who's going to give us the fun and the excitement?
01:07:30There's plenty, trust me.
01:07:30There's plenty.
01:07:31Plenty out there.
01:07:31But it's a fashion show.
01:07:33It's a fashion show, not a circus show.
01:07:35Yeah, there's a difference.
01:07:36I don't think it looked like a circus.
01:07:38It didn't look like a circus.
01:07:39If you take the pom-poms of the head and you look at really what he's done, you can wear
01:07:44these pieces.
01:07:45Look at this print that he used with the shoulder pads on top.
01:07:47I've never seen that before.
01:07:48You can wear that with a black pencil skirt and make it very sophisticated.
01:07:52I know, but we're not here to restyle his clothes.
01:07:55I understand.
01:07:56I understand.
01:07:57Because he's doing a fashion show.
01:07:58I understand you're not supposed to restyle them.
01:08:00I'm just saying, as a customer, I can buy these and I can incorporate them in my closet
01:08:05and make them really wearable.
01:08:08You would not wear Mondo's opening blouse?
01:08:11But I would not wear the polka dot dress.
01:08:13I agree.
01:08:14I can't see you in the polka dot dress.
01:08:16And I realize, after you said ten times, you don't love it, but I think that there
01:08:20are pieces in there that I could see you in.
01:08:22And it wouldn't be like, oh my God, isn't that crazy?
01:08:24No, of course not.
01:08:25And I'm just judging from what's relevant with what I'm seeing in the industry now.
01:08:30I absolutely would wear Gretchen's clothes.
01:08:32I think that she is a great designer.
01:08:34But at the end of the day, I still believe that Mondo is more special.
01:08:39I think he'll always be coming up with new ideas, too, though, which is very important.
01:08:44Last season, Seth Aaron had the cousin collection to this.
01:08:49And in fashion, it changes very quickly.
01:08:51It's like that.
01:08:52It's not about that.
01:08:53It's about her style right now.
01:08:55It is.
01:08:55It's not only about where fashion is.
01:08:57This is about where it's going next.
01:08:59Yes, it's true.
01:09:00I think she's saying something different.
01:09:02And I think it's current.
01:09:03What is she saying?
01:09:04She's talking about an easy kind of sexiness.
01:09:06I think she's talking about a woman who's a little bit more down to earth.
01:09:10She is that woman that is speaking to this ease, to this casualness, very pared down.
01:09:15But it's speaking to the moment.
01:09:18I think we're in a sportswear moment.
01:09:20It's going to stay that way for a while.
01:09:22She's thinking about all that.
01:09:24It's a design show.
01:09:25I think there's more design in her clothes.
01:09:27Why is that?
01:09:27When you have something that is simple and cut well, it's more difficult, actually.
01:09:34And I look at the dress that she had was her second look.
01:09:38I look at the jacket that she had as her first look.
01:09:41I look at this little top with the sliced sleeve and the third look.
01:09:44And the pant.
01:09:45Pant is great.
01:09:47But everything is loose.
01:09:48Hello, Rita Magazine.
01:09:51Trust me, fashion's changing.
01:09:53Yes.
01:09:53And she's on the vibe for what's next.
01:09:55Yes.
01:09:55I like those clothes, too.
01:09:57I really do.
01:09:58It's just that they don't excite me.
01:10:00But I'm still sticking with Mondo.
01:10:02I think that he could dress a lot of really interesting people.
01:10:06He has incredible talent.
01:10:09He is extremely creative.
01:10:11He is so adept at patterns and color.
01:10:13I just feel like we've been praising him for exactly what he showed us.
01:10:17No, we did not.
01:10:18No, I'm not.
01:10:19And he's gotten to this point, and now we say it's not good.
01:10:22That's what it feels like.
01:10:23Did we film the last episode?
01:10:25Did I look at that polka dot?
01:10:27And say, cut the damn sleeves off.
01:10:29She looks like a polka dot barber pole.
01:10:31You could take it.
01:10:33Focus.
01:10:34I understand what you say.
01:10:35But look, we're four people, and you have two people here that would actually wear this polka dot dress.
01:10:40I want to see you wearing that polka dot dress, Gloom.
01:10:43What you think is silly we actually would want to wear.
01:10:45I'm ready.
01:10:46Try it on.
01:10:47You wiggle right into that puppy, and you walk out there.
01:10:50The fashion's selling a dream as well.
01:10:52Sorry.
01:10:53Is this selling a dream, too?
01:10:54I think she's selling you a dream.
01:10:55It's just not your dream.
01:10:57Can someone hand me my boxing gloves, please?
01:10:59I'd like to see you guys fight.
01:11:01We've never done this.
01:11:02We're so split in the middle.
01:11:04I'm sorry.
01:11:04We're just split.
01:11:05I mean, we just are.
01:11:06It's two totally opposite designers.
01:11:09This is literally salt and sugar.
01:11:12I mean, they are, there's nothing similar.
01:11:15What do you prefer to eat?
01:11:16I'm a salty kind of boy.
01:11:18I am.
01:11:19I like chocolate.
01:11:21But who are we looking for?
01:11:23The next couture designer or something?
01:11:25Not necessarily.
01:11:25Or are we looking for someone who does very wearable?
01:11:29This isn't just about, you know, what we saw today.
01:11:32This is about finding the next great designer.
01:11:48Andy, Gretchen, Mondo, one of you will be the winner of Project Runway.
01:12:04Andy, Gretchen, Mondo, you are the final three.
01:12:11And that is a huge accomplishment.
01:12:15You have all worked incredibly hard.
01:12:18And your talent was so clear in your final collection.
01:12:22Andy.
01:12:24Your collection was intricate and sophisticated.
01:12:27But we missed a little bit of what made your designs special in the past.
01:12:32They could have used more of your modern edge.
01:12:35We think that you are extremely talented.
01:12:37And know that you continue to refine your style and be a successful designer.
01:12:43Andy, I'm sorry, you're out.
01:12:52Thank you very much.
01:12:54There are no regrets that I have.
01:13:01I presented a collection that I stand behind and I really love.
01:13:06I set out to show who I am today as a designer and my progression and a sophisticated collection and
01:13:13I accomplished that.
01:13:15I'm just so glad you are here.
01:13:19It was about getting to Fashion Week.
01:13:21Okay.
01:13:22From here, the opportunities are endless.
01:13:24Yay.
01:13:25Okay.
01:13:26And it's just the beginning of so many great things.
01:13:30Good job, bro.
01:13:30Good job, bro.
01:15:34This experience has just proven to me what I am capable of achieving.
01:15:43I started out so insecure and self-doubting.
01:15:47I'm really lonely.
01:15:48There hasn't been a connection with anybody.
01:15:50I feel like this has contributed to me as a person and as an artist so much more than I
01:15:57ever expected.
01:15:58And that is such a gift.
01:16:00No, I didn't even want to be one of the three.
01:16:02I just wanted to be in the top three in the first challenge.
01:16:04Right.
01:16:06Look where you logged out.
01:16:07I didn't win Project Runway, but I won so much more.
01:16:11And I couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity.
01:16:15Congratulations, Gretchen.
01:16:17This is crazy.
01:16:18It was a battle and you won.
01:16:22I won Project Runway.
01:16:27My God, I needed this so bad in so many different ways.
01:16:32And I certainly know Mondo and I gave him hell.
01:16:35Now I truly, truly feel like I'm supposed to be doing what I'm doing.
01:16:40And how do you feel?
01:16:41Like $100,000.
01:16:45Congratulations.
01:16:46It's the most exciting thing that's ever happened.
01:16:51You know, I think you've grown tremendously as a designer, but you've still stayed so true to your aesthetic.
01:16:57I think the show today was really well, well done.
01:17:00Thank you so much.
01:17:02Congratulations, Gretchen.
01:17:03This was a tough, tough deliberation, but I have all faith you can be a star.
01:17:12Your designs are amazing, and I can't wait to buy them.
01:17:16And I know that my sister is going to rock them impeccably.
01:17:21Call me, girl.
01:17:22I will.
01:17:23Bring out the family.
01:17:25We have a freshly new baked winner of Project Runway.
01:17:28I am over the moon.
01:17:31It's all good.
01:17:35There's also someone else that would like to congratulate you.
01:17:38Come on, Tim Gunn.
01:17:40Wow.
01:17:42Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
01:17:44This money is going to take me places, literally.
01:17:48My stuff is in storage.
01:17:49I have no idea where I'm going, but now I at least have the ability to go.
01:17:54Much deserved, and what a journey, huh?
01:17:56What a journey.
01:17:57Yeah, congratulations.
01:17:58We also have another winner.
01:18:00Milana, come on out!
01:18:09Congratulations, you are a team winner.
01:18:11Congratulations.
01:18:13You will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire Magazine.

01:18:21Congratulations.
01:18:22It's so exciting.
01:18:24I got my first taste of Fashion Week, and I certainly don't want it to be my last.
