00:30.
00:37Do you feel like it's kind of quieter here today?
00:40Yeah, it is quieter. Casanova's no longer with us. Duh.
00:46I was sad. The work home's gonna be kind of boring when I'm here.
00:49Mm-hmm.
00:50I got called out on the runway yesterday by Heidi for her.
00:56Michael, I saw you roll your eyes ten times while Ivy was speaking.
01:00Working with her on a previous challenge, I was terrified.
01:03But...
01:03Then you shouldn't roll your eyes.
01:05I was like...
01:08Didn't know what to say.
01:11How you feeling, Ivy?
01:12It's done. Yesterday was yesterday.
01:14You were so blessed, eh?
01:15You were like, yeah, it was bad colors.
01:17Meh.
01:18Yeah, it was a poor design.
01:19Meh.
01:21I think I'm a very strong woman and there's been times where people have told me that I'm not good
01:26enough, I'll never make it.
01:27And if I listened to those idiots, I wouldn't be here today.
01:29Let's go.
01:31Let's do it.
01:32Time to get busy.
01:47Hello.
01:48Hi.
01:48For this challenge, you will be looking to the past to secure your future.
01:54Tim will fill you in on all of the details.
01:58When Heidi tells us that we're stepping back in time, I feel like it really could be anything.
02:04You never know on this show what's gonna happen.
02:06All I know is I don't want to be forced into making a corset.
02:22Good morning, designers.
02:23I am honored to be standing in front of photographs of Jacqueline Kennedy, one of the world's leading fashion icons.
02:31Ever since she became First Lady in 1961, she has personified quality, taste, style, sophistication, and elegance.
02:38She is how the world perceives classic American sportswear.
02:42For this challenge, you will design a look that personifies your own contribution to American sportswear.
02:49Remember, your point of view as a designer.
02:52You will have 30 minutes to sketch and use Jacqueline Kennedy as your inspiration.
02:56Then we're gonna be chopping at mood where you'll have a budget of $150.
03:00And you have until midnight tonight.
03:02And your sketching time begins now.
03:06Have fun.
03:10Using Jacqueline Kennedy as an inspiration, at first I thought it was kind of a hindrance because I relate her
03:16so much to American fashion.
03:17And my aesthetic plays a lot with Asian ideas of aesthetic.
03:21And so I thought that it wasn't gonna really mix well.
03:25But Jacqueline Kennedy was a fashion risk taker without even knowing it.
03:29And so it's gonna be a statement piece.
03:31So designers, your sketching time is up and we're heading off to mood.
03:36Let's go.
03:39All right designers, think quality, taste, style, sophistication, elegance, expensive.
03:44Your time starts now.
03:51Once I get to mood, I let the fabric speak to me.
03:54I just kind of run up and down the aisles like a crazy man.
03:57Yeah, those bolts of fabric have voices and they say come over and pick me up and I usually do.
04:02I'm lost right now.
04:04I don't really have a clear vision of what I want to create.
04:07Fortunately, I do have a color palette in mind.
04:10I'm thinking either white and black or white and navy.
04:13Designers, one minute remains.
04:15I'm like, what if I screwed up?
04:17But we can't think about that.
04:19I think I did a fabulous job.
04:20You did a great job.
04:21All right designers, let's head back to the work room and get to work.
04:24All right.
04:25Thank you mood.
04:26Thanks mood.
04:27Bye.
04:36What were you thinking of doing this like a panel?
04:39Order.
04:40I'm a little concerned about Mondo's look.
04:44It's very Mondo, but I feel like because of the materials he used, he might be not hitting the nail
04:53on the head with this one.
04:55I can't go back to mood so I have to make this work.
04:57So I think I'm going to switch and do a skirt and a top.
05:03This could either be really good or really bad.
05:08Michael, your look was sewn well and expensive.
05:12You may leave the runway.
05:15For this challenge, I decided to channel the earliest Americans, the Puritans.
05:23I'm making a skirt out of wool crepe, but it's sort of reminiscent of a 50 circle skirt, but it's
05:27got cartridge bleeding, which is kind of like the crucible.
05:30So I'm not really sure what's going on, but I really kind of don't care at this point because I
05:34think I'm losing my mind.
05:35I know.
05:36There's just such a small group of designers now that if you even F up one time, you're going home.
05:47Coming up on Project Runway.
05:48What happens with this?
05:50I was wanting to maybe soften it.
05:51It looks like my grandmother's clothes.
05:53I'm the old fart, I admit it, but I find it to be pretty vulgar.
05:56Really?
05:57Yeah.
06:10I don't think that some of the other contestants really know what sportswear is.
06:14To me, Michael C's look looks very cocktail, and I would have to say the same thing for Christopher's.
06:19How's it going, Michael?
06:21I don't know yet.
06:22I might make another dress.
06:24I'm not really feeling my blue backless dress right now.
06:27That looks too flight attendant stewardess, doesn't it?
06:30Kind of.
06:31So these are my pants.
06:34Looks like I could fit in one leg, and my model could probably fit in the same leg.
06:39Can you see what Andy's working on?
06:40Andy?
06:41No, not really.
06:43I kind of like the pants that he wears a lot, but in shorts.
06:47No.
06:48No, I think that looks cute.
06:50A fashion-forward person takes risks, and so I'm pushing fashion a little more forward.
06:56Kind of hoping he keeps going with it.
06:58Just keep going.
06:59Yeah, just keep going, Andy.
07:02Hi, everyone.
07:03I'm here to check in with you.
07:04Hi.
07:05How's Valerie?
07:06Valerie is doing good.
07:07What I'm doing is a very slim black pant.
07:11It's almost like a legging, but not a legging.
07:13What's the fit like through the hips and thighs?
07:16Oh, it's fit in.
07:17I'm the old fart, I admit it, but I find it to be pretty vulgar.
07:20Really?
07:20Yeah.
07:21You've got to be careful what happens here and what happens back here.
07:24Right.
07:24So it's like a very beautifully draped cargo pant.
07:27Right.
07:27It's you.
07:28It's me, exactly.
07:30Hi, Michael.
07:30Hi, Tim.
07:31So talk to me about the skirt.
07:33So right now it's really kind of heavy.
07:36Yes, it is.
07:37Michael Drummond's skirt is a little crucible right now.
07:41All she needs is a bonnet on her head.
07:45I mean, the more that I look at this, it's Annie Oakley as Annie Get Your Gun.
07:50People recycle old in fashion all the time.
07:55Sometimes things that haven't been seen for ages and ages and ages can look extremely modern.
08:00And I don't want her to look like she's also got a ruler and she beats children.
08:03Do you know what I'm saying?
08:04Like, who could go there?
08:06That could be the other side of her.
08:08Good stuff.
08:10Thank you, Tim.
08:13Here they are.
08:17I love this fabric.
08:19It's first lady fabric.
08:20Right.
08:21First lady.
08:22First try.
08:26Jackie Kennedy.
08:28Jackie Kennedy.
08:28She wouldn't wear that.
08:29I don't care what time period it is.
08:31And the fit was, like, going up her ass.
08:34It was just, like, saggy saddlebags.
08:40We are done.
08:42I think we're all in the clear for sure.
08:51I think so.
08:51I have a concern for Andy.
08:53Yeah.
08:54I don't think that look is Jackie O or anyone, really.
08:58She's more like Jackie Yo than Jackie O.
09:01I think when the judges see those pants, they're going to think if Jackie Kennedy was alive today,
09:09she would probably wear pants like this because she was a risk taker.
09:13I think she would.
09:14I just hope they don't, I hope they get it.
09:19One by ladies first.
09:21Excuse me.
09:25Mondo, Mondo, Mondo.
09:27Oh, I like this so much better after a couple of hours of sleep.
09:30I love you guys.
09:33Oh.
09:34Oh.
09:35Good morning, designers.
09:36Hi, Jackie.
09:37I have an announcement to make.
09:39Of course you do.
09:40Today is not a runway day.
09:43Oh.
09:43It is not a runway day.
09:45What day is it?
09:49Coming up on Project Runway.
09:51He has no conviction or vision.
09:54He doubts.
09:55If they're going to send me home, they're going to send me home with something that I believe in.
09:58Jackie Kennedy would not have Hamilton.
10:05Right.
10:07Today is not a runway day.
10:09What?
10:10It is not a runway day.
10:13I'm so happy about this little twist.
10:15You have no idea.
10:16Whenever Tim Gunn says there's a twist, I want to smack him in the head.
10:20You will be creating an additional item to go with this look.
10:27And that item is outerwear.
10:29Oh.
10:31Great.
10:31If the garment we made is similar to a jacket already, can we make that our outerwear and
10:36make something underneath?
10:37I feel like this is already a jacket and anything over this would be really bulky.
10:40I don't disagree with you.
10:42And I was surprised to see that you created a jacket.
10:47You will have 15 minutes to sketch, then we're going shopping at Mood where you'll have
10:5115 minutes to shop with a budget of $150.
10:55Wow.
10:56This is going to help our outfit.
10:58I agree.
10:59I like the idea of a complete full look for my Jackie Kennedy of 2010.
11:04Here we are in 2010 right now.
11:06Thank you everyone.
11:06I'll be back.
11:08I'm really stumped.
11:15I'm deciding to do a vest.
11:18It's very modern.
11:19It's very classic.
11:20And it's very versatile.
11:23I'll be hoping for a win.
11:25Trust your gut, girl.
11:26I'm following my butt.
11:27Not my gut.
11:28Hey girl.
11:28Does that mean you're making her a fanny pack?
11:30Girl, just wait.
11:33All right, everyone.
11:34Let's head off to Mood.
11:36Yay.
11:37Follow me, please.
11:43I'm looking for a really soft stretch type wool and this fabric is sticking out and I want
11:52that fabric.
11:54That I'm grabbing out.
11:55Hmm?
11:56You're going to take some of that.
11:58Yeah.
12:02I could have been a bitch about it and take the fabric anyway, but I rise above that kind
12:06of stuff.
12:07I get five yards.
12:11For my shrug, I'd love to use something that resembles fur.
12:14I was like breezed through the faux furs and they all looked so tacky and cheap.
12:18So I went straight immediately just down to the leathers.
12:20This is the first time I've ever picked up animal fur.
12:24I feel a little bit bad.
12:26All right, everyone.
12:27Time is up.
12:29Thank you very much, guys.
12:30Let's go back to Barson's.
12:31Thank you, Mood.
12:36I wonder if this is a boy animal or a girl animal.
12:39The fur is really long and kind of nappy.
12:42So I'm going to basically give the hide a shave.
12:44It looks really great.
12:45That takes it up like so much.
12:47Totally.
12:48I'm really going to feel like Harry Potter in this coat.
12:51You are Harry Potter.
12:52Yeah, I'm thinking I might recut this coat all over again.
12:58I turned out that base jacket, but it looks like a damn terry cloth towel.
13:04Now I got to make another look.
13:05Every single challenge, he creates multiple things.
13:09He has to wait until Tim Gunn comes in and tells him what to do.
13:14And then everything changes.
13:15He has no conviction or vision for these challenges.
13:23How is everyone?
13:24Hi.
13:25Why is it quiet in here?
13:26Pensive.
13:28It is pensive.
13:29Michael.
13:29Hi, Tim.
13:30I want to hear about the outerwear.
13:32Okay.
13:33But I also want to hear about the skirt again.
13:35I had it on my model yesterday and it looked really good.
13:37It did?
13:38Yes.
13:39The skirt?
13:40Yes.
13:41There are several gauges of Tim Gunn.
13:43There's this one, and this one, and this one.
13:46And he's giving me this one.
13:48Do you feel strong enough to stand up on that runway for it?
13:50I want to fix it a little bit, but I really like it.
13:54Hi, Andy.
13:55Hi, Tim.
13:56How is this whole crotch area?
13:57Because you don't want that pulling.
13:58Yeah, earlier I was doing this like, I was giving her like an arrow there.
14:01Jackie Kennedy would not have camel toe.
14:04Right.
14:05Michael.
14:06Hi, Tim.
14:07What's that?
14:08Well, I made three jackets today.
14:12You made three jackets?
14:13Yeah, and about three other dresses too.
14:15I found this fabric today at Mood, and it looked so much better there until I got it here.
14:20I kind of like it better in the denim.
14:22Well, it's prettier than this, but what wouldn't be?
14:25Put this stuff under the table.
14:27That's what the rest of it is.
14:29He gabs.
14:30All right, everyone.
14:31I am going to leave you for the night.
14:33Make it work, everybody.
14:36A little piece of my soul is dying every second.
14:38Mine too.
14:39I'm not finished yet.
14:41I have to put the facing on my shrug, which is, again, more handwork.
14:44My fingers are gonna fall off.
14:47Oh, my God.
14:50Coming up on Project Runway.
14:52Someone's got me real nervous.
14:53Michael, in two minutes, we're going down to the runway.
14:58This can't be happening.
14:59I don't want to be sent home over a damn zipper.
15:12The runway day.
15:13Are you nervous?
15:15Not really.
15:16No.
15:16This morning, I'm confident.
15:19I'm gonna stand by my look no matter what.
15:20I really, really love the concept and the idea behind it.
15:24I'm concerned for Andy.
15:26I just feel like he didn't pay attention to the challenge at all.
15:30He designed for himself.
15:31He just made whatever he wanted to make.
15:33I just don't want to go home.
15:34That's all I'm asking.
15:35Just don't send me home, okay?
15:37I don't think you're going home, Michael Drummond.
15:39I don't know.
15:39Tim Gunn's got me real nervous.
15:41Michael Drummond is probably the most artistic designer in this competition.
15:47I mean, he definitely has his own point of view and, you know, I praise him for that.
15:52Mondo, you look fabulous today.
15:54I really do.
15:54I love your outfit.
15:55It was inspired by the Cotton Club.
15:57Let me see.
15:58Stand up.
15:59It's so cute.
15:59Did you make that shirt?
16:00Yes.
16:01Love it.
16:01Hey, would you tap dance for a second?
16:03No.
16:03Come on.
16:04I'll give you a dollar.
16:05All right.
16:08I love it.
16:18I never put on snaps so fast in my life.
16:20The issue with my design is really just going to be getting the perfect fit on Rose, my model.
16:26The judges are really critical about the proportions.
16:28So as long as I can get that, I think I should be in good shape.
16:32All right, you have two hours to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room and the Garnier
16:37Hair Salon.
16:38The Piper Lime accessory wall.
16:40Use it thoughtfully.
16:42I'm sending in your models.
16:43Thank you, everyone.
16:44Thank you, Tim.
16:45Hello, ladies.
16:46I think it's cute.
16:47The top fits her well and the skirt fits her well.
16:51It's a little high above her hips.
16:53Let me see the pan thing first.
16:54I'm trying not to panic that the crotch isn't fitting as nicely.
16:58So I'm trying to just fix the problem as much as I can and make it work.
17:03Okay.
17:03Put them in here.
17:04Your little press cup things.
17:06Let's go to makeup.
17:08Okay.
17:09Hi.
17:10Hello.
17:11We want to do smokey eye.
17:14Uh-huh.
17:14Smokey eye.
17:16Imagine that.
17:16So how about a light smoke with that red?
17:18Yeah, like a light smoke.
17:20Light.
17:21Yeah.
17:22Let's do that.
17:23Yeah.
17:23That'll be fun.
17:26I want to simulate like the modern day French braid.
17:35Okay, girl, let's try this on.
17:37My dress looks beautiful on her.
17:39I really, really like it.
17:40So it's going to go like this.
17:42The shrug, ugh.
17:43I don't know how that's going to work out.
17:45Designers and models, in ten minutes we're going down to the runway, alright?
17:53As we're putting on the skirt, invisible zipper breaks, I am probably going to have a heart
17:59attack.
17:59Damn it.
18:01This can't be happening.
18:02I don't want to be sent home over a damn zipper.
18:07I had to pull out the pliers, did a little fixing.
18:10Ooh, girl, I was about to have a heart attack.
18:12You know, this is a weird challenge.
18:14Maybe like 50% of the room I'm a little nervous for.
18:18I think Andy's reads through and through Andy, but I don't think it reads at all Jacqueline.
18:24Mike C's outfit is a cocktail dress with like a mom jacket over it.
18:29Christopher, his outer piece I think is just odd.
18:33Alright designers and models, follow me down to the runway.
18:36I don't know what three are going to be in the bottom because I feel like it could be one
18:41of those where like more than three are in the bottom.
18:48Coming up on Project Runway.
18:50It looks like a dirty old rug.
18:53I think it's insulting.
18:54I feel like I'm on a different planet.
18:56This is a train wreck.
18:58So what are you, a grand couturier?
18:59Did I miss something?
19:00I mean, come on.
19:13Hello.
19:14Hi.
19:16Welcome to the runway.
19:17As you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out.
19:22There are nine of you here and after tonight there will be eight.
19:26For this challenge we asked you to create a fashion forward look that shows your take
19:31on American sportswear.
19:33You were inspired by fashion icon Jackie Kennedy.
19:36Then we asked you to create an outerwear piece to go with your look.
19:41You had $300 and two days to put it together.
19:45Alright, let's meet the judges.
19:47First we have top American designer Michael Kors.
19:50Hey guys.
19:51Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine Nina Garcia.
19:53Hi everyone.
19:55And our guest judge today, actress January Jones.
19:58Hi everyone.
19:59Hi.
20:01Welcome.
20:03We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
20:05One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
20:10Let's start the show.
20:22I really like the way it looks.
20:23I like the way it moves.
20:24She fills it out perfectly.
20:26I think that I understood this challenge.
20:29They said clean, elegant, sophisticated, simple, but fashion forward.
20:36And I think my dress is that.
20:44I love pencil skirts and I think that she looks really sexy.
20:48It's me.
20:49It's edgy.
20:51I'm really happy with this look and I think that it definitely fulfilled the challenge and
20:56also fulfilled my aesthetic and I'm really confident in it.
21:05I'm just so excited.
21:08She looks so beautiful and she's really embodying Jacqueline Kennedy.
21:11The entire overall look looks stupendous and it looks very, very expensive.
21:16I think it's very original, very different.
21:18It's things that I've never seen before.
21:20And I definitely am very proud of what I created.
21:35I'm a little nervous.
21:36I'm curious to know what the judges are going to think of me sending down a cocktail dress.
21:41But my model looks great.
21:43Maybe her walking in this dress, she'll spark something in the judge's eye to make me safe
21:47or put me in the top.
22:00It's really hard being on this side of the runway.
22:04I nitpick everything.
22:06But I feel like it looks like something Jacqueline would maybe wear.
22:10And more than anything, that's what feels good.
22:22You know, I've come a long way in this competition.
22:25And I really like my garment.
22:27There's something very beautiful about that monochromatic outfit.
22:30But as my model walks down the runway, I think to myself, the skirt's too short.
22:35Why is the skirt so short?
22:40Bye, guys.
22:41Oh my God.
22:51When I see my look coming down the runway, I feel great.
22:53I think I pulled off a very clean look and it was very versatile.
22:57I think all the pieces could stand well on their own, but also changed amongst other garments in your wardrobe.
23:02It's good to be done and relaxed, but it's nerve-wracking because you just never know which way the bottle's
23:08going to spin.
23:15Once it hits the runway, I have no power.
23:19I'm kind of sweating when I'm watching because of the fact that the fit is really off on the crotch
23:24area.
23:24But the overall look, I really, really love.
23:39Ian definitely exudes the spirit, the grace, and the elegance that Jacqueline Kennedy was all about.
23:47She looks sophisticated and strong and smart and that's exactly what I wanted to send down.
23:52So I'm 150% happy with this look and I think I'm going to win this one.
24:06If I call your name, please step forward.
24:09Mike Costello, please step forward.
24:13April.
24:17Gretchen.
24:19If I've called your name, congratulations. Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge. You can
24:26use the runway.
24:38I guess we thought wrong, huh?
24:41Yeah.
24:41I could see you in the top three because Jackie Kennedy is a fashion icon and she sets trends and
24:47I could still imagine her in your outfit, you know, like it's so fashion forward.
24:52When I said it was an honor to be there with Gretchen, it's total bull .
24:57I don't think Jackie Kennedy would ever wear any of those pieces that she sent down the runway.
25:08The remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores.
25:14Let's bring out your models.
25:21One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
25:36Valerie, tell us about your look.
25:39For Jacqueline Kennedy in 2010, I really wanted to keep her modern, still keep her classic and keep her streamlined
25:46at the same time.
25:47But I wanted to give her a little bit of an edge.
25:49Immediately thought of a fall look.
25:51That's why you put a jacket over a jacket.
25:54Well, it's more of a vest.
25:55Because she's wearing a jacket under the jacket, isn't she?
25:56I mean, it could be used as a jacket, but it's like a blouse.
25:59Can we have a look?
26:00Sure.
26:02Is that not a jacket?
26:03It's a double knit and I made it intentionally to be something that can be worn as a blouse.
26:09But she can wear a camisole underneath and if she wants it, she can take it off.
26:13Can we put it back on?
26:14Sure.
26:15It has no impact at all.
26:17It's just sad looking.
26:18I mean, she's wearing a lycra tube skirt with no design in it.
26:22The jacket looks very sadly tailored.
26:25The collar is an odd shape.
26:28Well, I wanted to keep it really simple and basic and I tried to put, you know...
26:31But guys, simple doesn't mean boring.
26:33Some of the best things are very simple and have no design gimmicks to them.
26:41Christopher.
26:41When I was thinking of Jacqueline Kennedy, I was definitely inspired by the effortlessly elegant theme.
26:48So I wanted to do a dress, a fitted dress with kind of an asymmetrical neckline.
26:53And then when we got the opportunity for the second challenge, I found these hides, these furs.
26:58And so I cut the fur and then I incorporated these pieces together to kind of create a stripe.
27:03Well, this was my favorite. The dress is beautiful. I love the silhouette of it. It's chic. I loved all
27:09the draping.
27:10I think the dress is elegant and sexy at the same time. I like the subtle sheen. The wrap, on
27:17the other hand, I like the texture and I like the color.
27:21I have to say that that dress in itself is a tricky one to try to figure out what on
27:27earth you would wear over it.
27:28Yes.
27:29What you've made, I mean, it looks like a dirty old rug because it's unreadable. If you can't see it
27:36like that, it's not good.
27:39Michael Drummond, tell us about your look.
27:41I was thinking about things about Jackie Kennedy and I was thinking about a vintage silhouette.
27:47I wanted to do a deconstructed jacket. I did some cartridge pleating.
27:51I just wanted to sort of make something modern, but something that could also transcend to the past.
27:56The top underneath the jacket is just an insane concept that you would think that that has anything to do
28:05with American sportswear. I think it's insulting.
28:09I don't think the drop waist is flattering with the belt. I just don't see any of her in that.
28:16Can I see it without the jacket? Your muse was a woman that is iconic.
28:21Yeah, she's fabulous.
28:23Right. I'm surprised that this is what you have to deliver.
28:26Mondo, tell us about your look.
28:28In my kitchen, I have a picture of Jacqueline Kennedy. She's turning around because the paparazzi is chasing her.
28:34I started playing with the conceptual idea of, like, she's always in the public eye.
28:38I wanted to find prints and textiles that were overblown just to play with that idea.
28:44And I just wanted to keep it really smart, sleek, and streamlined.
28:49I didn't mean your model. I meant you. Tell us about your look.
28:52Oh, my look? Oh, wow.
28:55Well, my roommates were asking me to tap dance earlier. So, I don't know.
29:00It looks sharp. Yeah, it is loud, but you designed within the challenge.
29:07Can we have a look at it without the jacket?
29:09I love that it has the color in the inside. You don't see it immediately, but it looks complete.
29:15I think the t-shirt's fabulous. The silhouette is very classic, very well tailored.
29:21Jackie Kennedy would have worn that skirt with little flat shoes and a black turtleneck, and it definitely does not
29:27look cheap.
29:28The mix was very clever. And it's fun, yet it's still elegant chic.
29:35For a modern take on it, it's really, really well done. And I think you look great together.
29:40Oh, thank you.
29:43Ivy, tell us about your look.
29:44When I think of Jacqueline Kennedy, I think classic, timeless elegance.
29:49And I got inspired by triangles and squares because I feel like shapes are timeless.
29:54So, I played around with contrasting of fabrics and making sure that there was something original or my signature on
30:02it.
30:03Intrinsically, it's elegant.
30:06It's got a sharpness. Obviously, the styling is very Jackie.
30:11You know, with the glasses, with the slick chignon.
30:13Can you close the jacket for me?
30:17I think there's something interesting also, that it's tailored but not in the traditional men's sense.
30:23I kind of like that you continue the idea of the architectural geometry.
30:29And I like the neckline.
30:33Should we have a look at it without the coat?
30:35It is better without the coat.
30:37I love it like that.
30:38I love the tailoring of it and I love the seam, the asymmetrical seam along the torso.
30:43I actually like that twisted tuxedo pant. I think it's very chic.
30:48Andy.
30:50I associate Jacqueline Kennedy with an ease and a chicness about her.
30:56She wasn't afraid to have her own style.
30:58The main piece of my look, obviously, are these pants, which are draped and they have these big pockets on
31:04the side.
31:04And I just felt that they were just a great statement piece.
31:07I have to tell you, with this look, I have a very hard time keeping it together because I want
31:12to like burst out and crack up.
31:14Especially for this challenge, to come up with this, it's like, I feel like I'm on a different planet.
31:21I mean, can you imagine Jackie Kennedy in these pants with his ill-fitting top underneath and then this funny
31:29bolero over it?
31:30I don't see it at all.
31:32I don't see American sportswear in that at all.
31:35Well, that was one of my struggles too, was this idea of American sportswear.
31:38I don't necessarily consider myself an American sportswear designer.
31:42So what are you, a grand couturier? Did I miss something?
31:44No.
31:45I mean, come on.
31:46If someone said to me, the inspiration was MC Hammer meets, you know, the Beverly Hillbillies' grandmother.
31:54I mean, that's what that looks like. The fit is horrific.
31:57And then the ankle boot, I mean, it's, come on.
32:00They look a little bit from the 1800s.
32:03Yeah, no, I mean, she's making soap or something. I don't know what she's doing.
32:07Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
32:10We're going to have a little chat and then I'll bring you back out.
32:13You can leave the runway. Thank you.
32:24Let's talk about the ones that we didn't like.
32:26When I look at Valerie's, I think there's no tailoring, no imagination, nothing special, no design.
32:32It's incredibly boring and blah.
32:35I just have a problem with that black Lycra skirt. Ugly burgundy, whatever that is.
32:42None of the three pieces look special.
32:44It's just too boring.
32:48Let's talk about Andy.
32:49I cannot see Jackie Kennedy in this entire look. I mean, not on this planet.
32:58I think these pants didn't fit. I'm just seeing ill-fitting and ill-appropriate.
33:02When you look at Andy, how he styled the model, why is she wearing, like, Nicole Kidman's boots from Cold
33:10Mountain?
33:10I mean, what?
33:12And her hair from far and away.
33:13And she's got the far and away hair. Maybe it's a Nicole Kidman challenge, because I don't know what it
33:18is.
33:19Let's talk about Michael Drummond.
33:21Talk about, like, just, like, oh, sign me up. I want something that's going to look like my waist fell,
33:28where my hips are growing, the proportion of the skirt, the belt, the tops were ill-fitting.
33:35It's just, he really put it together terribly.
33:37I would take the belt off and the jacket, or wear the jacket with something else.
33:44It's just, you know, I mean, it's terribly unflattering the way you showed it.
33:48Yes. That was also poor and sad.
33:50Yes.
33:51You just overthought it.
33:53Yeah, exactly.
33:57Let's talk about the designers that we did like. Christopher.
34:01The dress is an elegant dress. It's sexy without being vulgar.
34:05Yeah, it fit her well.
34:07Looked expensive.
34:08I think he was clever in picking that silhouette, because it was very classic. But that shrug just killed it.
34:15That shrug was horrible.
34:17The dress is wearable, though.
34:19You'd wear that dress.
34:19Yeah. Well, I liked this. I liked the dress. But yeah, I thought it fit her well. I thought it
34:23was tailored. I thought it was a perfect silhouette for Jackie sportswear.
34:28Yeah.
34:32We also liked Mondo's.
34:34He was the one that said he had a picture of Jackie in his apartment, right?
34:37Yeah.
34:37Yeah.
34:38Well, it helped him.
34:39He was able to capture just that, that allure that she had. It was that clean. It was the classic.
34:47Silhouette.
34:47Yes, the silhouette.
34:48It's funny that how he managed to have these bold colors and these big patterns, that he actually managed for
34:56it to still look chic.
35:00Let's talk about Ivy's. It was sleek and it was elegant. But then, why are their whole designing so old?
35:08Well, I mean, you know what? I don't necessarily agree with you totally on Ivy. When you looked at the
35:14proportions of that top, I thought the neckline was great. I love that the collar kind of flipped up asymmetrically.
35:22And to be honest with you, this is the most polished look and probably the best one that I have
35:29seen from her out in the runway.
35:32So, we've made our decision.
35:38Okay, let's bring them back out.
35:50The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
35:54One of you will be named the winner.
35:57And one of you will be out.
36:21Mondo, you are the clear winner of this challenge.
36:25Congratulations.
36:27You gave us a strong and well-made interpretation of American sportswear.
36:32It was clean, classic, but still contemporary and bold.
36:37Congratulations.
36:38You can leave the runway.
36:42I'm so excited that I won this one.
36:45I've been waiting so long.
36:47I feel like I've been so close.
36:49And finally I won.
36:52I won.
36:54You won?
36:54Yes.
36:55Finally.
36:56It's just really amazing.
36:58I'm really glad that I got the recognition that I feel like I deserve.
37:02And you know what?
37:03I'm going to be happier.
37:07Christopher.
37:08You're in.
37:09You can leave the runway.
37:17Ivy.
37:19You're in.
37:20You can leave the runway.
37:30Andi.
37:33You're in.
37:34You can leave the runway.
37:50Michael.
37:53Valerie.
37:55One of you will be out.
38:00Valerie.
38:03You missed the mark in the big way.
38:05Your look did not reach chic sportswear.
38:09Instead it was boring, inexpensive, badly executed malware.
38:17Michael.
38:19Your look was an unfortunate mismatch.
38:23And your proportions were way off.
38:26The top was ill fitting.
38:27And the bottom was bulky and unflattering.
38:30And no woman wants that silhouette.
38:35Valerie.
38:36I'm sorry.
38:43You're in.
38:44You can leave the runway.
38:45Thank you very much.
38:58Michael.
38:59I'm sorry.
39:00That means you're out.
39:04I'm sorry.
39:05I'm sorry.
39:07I'm sorry.
39:08I'm sorry.
39:12I'm sorry.
39:12I'm sorry.
39:13Being here on Project Runway has been kind of an eye-opening experience.
39:17Do not be sad.
39:19I'm not kidding.
39:20I'm not that depressed.
39:22I'm mostly bummed out that I'm honestly going to be missing you and you.
39:26And that's truly the case.
39:27I'm really bummed out about that.
39:32Hi, Tim.
39:34I'm okay with not taking your advice.
39:36Don't be upset.
39:37I am going to invoke that damn skirt.
39:41Anyway, I'm very proud of you all.
39:43And we are going to come out of this, except for you.
39:46No, I'll be fine.
39:46I'm coming out of this.
39:47I had close to maybe the time of my life.
39:50It was certainly an adventure.
39:52Thanks for your love.
39:52And we're going to miss you.
39:53Well, good.
39:54I'm glad.
39:54One more little bubble of laughter is going away.
39:57But yeah, no, thank you.
39:58And thank you.
39:58I liked what you said.
40:00But I just really felt like at the end of the day, I should do what I wanted.
40:02You did.
40:03You stood by it.
40:05And it was your Waterloo.
40:07And I like, you have to go look that up now.
40:11Bye, you guys.
40:12Bye, Michael.
40:13Thank you for the experience.
40:14Love you too.
40:14Bye.
40:15Bye.
40:15This is an incredible experience that I think thousands of designers would just die to have.
40:21So I did exactly what I needed to do for this last competition.
40:25And I...
