00:00Sonic Prime Season 3, Grim Tidings.
00:04Why is there a minutes long previously on in a Netflix show?
00:10You have to go past the earlier episodes to find the new ones.
00:14They have to think the show is just so forgettable that by the time Season 3 came out,
00:19people would need a refresher on what are clearly the memorable parts of the show.
00:24The music that plays right before the episodes start is always cool,
00:28but it's so forgettable and uninteresting, so I never mentioned it till now.
00:35It's always lame when 9 says,
00:37Fool. I just don't buy it. He's right though.
00:41He uses his tails to put the prism shards together and shoots lasers at it wanting to transform the Grim.
00:49The show has him smirk to make him look evil for doing something that's actually neutral.
00:53He has to be smirking because of his hatred of the people he had been disappointed by.
00:59So a laser is fired into the sky and eventually trees from the washed out green hill fly out of it instead of warping,
01:07which would be faster.
01:09He has to have made this happen on purpose.
01:12I'm guessing he wants materials?
01:14Shadow and Sonic run away from purple light.
01:18There's a blatant waste of time seen with the council.
01:22Anyways, Shadow says if they run fast enough, they'll warp out.
01:26It's like Sonic CD, but without the time travel after they run past those things.
01:31Well, it was nice of Shadow to reassure him by reminding him of something that he should have assumed he already remembered.
01:38Well, I guess he was doing it because he thought Sonic was so stupid he forgot he would do that.
01:45Sonic wastes time being sentimental by being sad that he has to leave behind some holograms.
01:51Eventually they jump a lot as some average exciting music plays until they end up in space standing on the purple platforms.
01:59I just have to assume the platforms have a magic spell that gives them all enough gravity to keep them standing on them.
02:07They find out there's nothing left of the world they were just on.
02:10Good thing the place they're in is apparently so magical that there's an air bubble for them.
02:17They really should explain that.
02:20Nine uses lasers and yells no from failing to make something.
02:24And he moves some things from a distance and says he needs to send out more energy.
02:29He makes an evil-looking Sonic robot, which is inexplicably not identical-looking to Sonic while he's at it,
02:37and says hi with a smirk.
02:40Wow, does someone with a traumatic past make a robot friend of his that doesn't look reassuring and harmless?
02:45It would, if anything, be a much better way to mock Sonic if he had it look exactly like Sonic,
02:52because he would show him how it feels because he's treating him as a replacement Sonic like how Nine was treated like a replacement Tails.
03:03I guess he didn't want to feel like a hypocrite by making it too obvious to himself what he's doing.
03:07He finds out the Grimm's decaying with not enough energy,
03:12and finds out Sonic's responsible for this because he's got the same energy that powered his city.
03:18And he's too stupid to use the prism that can summon anything, according to how the plot wants,
03:24to just summon a portal gun that, with the press of a button, would summon a portal that would have Sonic fall right into his lap.
03:31After some padding where Sonic's made fun of again by the story because he doesn't have a perfect memory,
03:38they start jumping a lot, and Shadow gets thanked and called Buddy for protecting him.
03:43They end up going through a portal to the Grimm and see a giant purple building.
03:49I guess it makes sense that it's purple because Nine has every reason to be rebellious,
03:54so he's being rebellious by choosing a girly color.
03:58He says that's far enough.
04:01First off, that doesn't make any sense.
04:04Wouldn't he say that's close enough because he doesn't want them to come close enough to attack him?
04:10Shouldn't he say that because they're running away from him?
04:13I like that he's not surprised they're alive at all.
04:17Because it proves that he wasn't leaving them to die.
04:21He just assumed they'd be competent enough to survive because he knows what they're capable of.
04:28Why does Sonic think it's worth it to say,
04:31What are you doing? We had a plan.
04:33As if that's a persuasive response that an actual person would give.
04:38When every second counts when he needs to try to reason with him.
04:41How is he so stupid?
04:44Why is he acting like he just got betrayed by him?
04:49Why doesn't he just say,
04:50I'm sorry about what I said, I shouldn't have worded it like that.
04:54It'd be believable for him to still be mad at him after that because of how recently it happened.
04:58He could have responded by saying he thinks he's only sorry because it backfired on him,
05:04and he never really liked him for what made his personality different from Tails.
05:08Just settling for a replacement until he could throw him away.
05:11There could be some real emotional dialogue instead of just generic, cliche villain bragging about how powerful he is.
05:18He doesn't even give an excuse for why he wasn't careful enough not to be insensitive.
05:24That he didn't spend enough time in school and spent most of his life running around exploring instead of talking to people.
05:29And then Sonic could say,
05:31I'll make it up to you.
05:33And be told there's no way he could do that.
05:36It makes sense that he's not reminding him that everyone he met hated him for being a mutant,
05:39and that's why it really hurt that someone he thought finally cared about him for who he was didn't.
05:45It makes sense if he thinks there's a good chance he'd start to cry from saying that.
05:49He knows Sonic already knows his backstory,
05:51so he'd assume that he knows that's part of why he's acting out.
05:56Sonic reminds him they're friends and can still restore his home
06:00without giving him a reason for why he should that he knows he needs to hear,
06:04since he said it was impossible earlier.
06:08Why does he think this is going to convince him?
06:10He basically said this earlier.
06:13Of course trying to reason with him is the way to go,
06:15because that's the only way to fix this.
06:17Because, apparently, Nine is the only way to get things back to normal.
06:22But I don't blame Shadow for having no faith in that as a possibility.
06:27Nine points out he was only using him to get what he wants.
06:30Yeah, he was also with him because he reminded him of Tails.
06:33But that's also a form of using him.
06:36It's not like he'd have no empathy for him if he didn't look like Tails.
06:40He became friends with Tails despite him not being someone who reminded him of someone he was already friends with.
06:48But, of course, he'd be cynical enough to assume that after his backstory,
06:51because he didn't really have any charisma at all when he met him.
06:56He has every reason to actually believe that he was only using him because of how he disappointed him earlier.
07:05And this is why it's hysterical to say he was gaslighting Sonic as a way of calling him a terrible character who's ruining the third season.
07:12Gaslighting means actually trying to make someone doubt his own memory and perception on purpose.
07:18Nine sticks a robot Sonic on them that does nothing new.
07:22So a robot with the same personality as Metal Sonic still in the show.
07:27What we're purest bitching about.
07:29Granted, it looks inferior to Metal Sonic.
07:32It's also defeated really easily in a forgettable, uncreative way.
07:35Why does Sonic think saying it's over is going to end this instead of saying anything reassuring or apologizing?
07:45Nine sends robots that look mildly like Sonic's friends except intimidating.
07:50And somehow Sonic says, what have you done to my friends instead of just thinking of them as robots that are based on them to get back at him.
07:57Once again, nothing creative happens here until Shadow rides on one of them as it's flying.
08:02But it's very temporary and pointless.
08:04Nine criticizes Sonic under his breath for being quick to rush into things, with no idea what he's up against.
08:14Sonic tells Nine he'll be spending the rest of his life alone this way, with no real friends.
08:21Nine doesn't really respond properly, saying at least he can trust them, instead of saying that his robots are his friends.
08:28So it's good writing that he admits this isn't ideal to him.
08:33So he still makes sense, and it's being consistent with what he always wanted.
08:38He's smart enough to know that the robots aren't real friends, because they only like him because that's how he made their minds to be.
08:47Maybe it'd be better if we did see him treat a robot like a best friend, because it'd really look like he had sanity slippage.
08:53It could be creepy and tragic.
08:55And it'd make it make more sense that he's acting like a villain, because he's clearly not in his right state of mind.
09:01And he says once he's rebuilt the prism, but then he says he has.
09:06Who edited this script?
09:08The story expecting him to be intimidated of Nine himself is a real last.
09:14Only what he can do looks intimidating.
09:17I'll admit that is one of the biggest problems with the season.
09:21Nine doesn't like the idea of Shadow taking Sonic away from him.
09:25I know what he means, but he sounds like a clingy ex which clashes with the tone.
09:29I thought he didn't want him around.
09:31It was cool to see this huge yellow light tornado.
09:35Shadow and Sonic get thrown really far.
09:39Really, why should I care about when the characters are in danger and when they never have any consequences from getting hurt
09:43beyond a very brief moment of acting in pain?
09:47I say this because this is supposed to be really dramatic, and it's not.
09:52Is it really unacceptable to show a bunch of bruises on them?
09:56The series got away with it before.
09:59Sonic has a pain tolerance of a fucking god after all of the punishment I got to see him take in this show.
10:05And eventually I get to see Shadow get smacked twice and hit into a rocky thing and fall into the ocean.
10:11This would only have the intended effect in a series where the characters can die.
10:15We all know the currents will just conveniently carry him to safety fast enough that he'll survive because it's a series for children and the show never had the guts to even injure anyone.
10:25He can't swim either.
10:26But though it would make sense if he had taken swimming lessons.
10:30Because he's supposed to be smarter than Sonic?
10:33In theory?
10:33What a waste of time episode.
10:37This episode by Chris Milan was a little boring from the almost complete lack of plot progression and creativity while being almost nothing but Sonic and Shadow fighting robot doubles of the main cast
10:48who don't talk or do anything new that got magically generated like Worlds Unite and Worlds Collide combined when I had no reason to think these invincible characters would be written to get injured.
11:01And with that being all that happened and all the stakes were, I got nothing out of it in the end.
11:09It's all pointless until Sonic got thrown to safety.
11:12That could have happened right away and saved us a lot of wasted time.
11:17It was so frustrating when Sonic was talking to Nine and he was just saying the same things he was saying to him before that didn't work the first time and Shadow was dead silent.
11:27Nine did some cool stuff with the prism.
11:29In a way that really had a strong presence being epic in the way anyone would take for granted from the end of a Sonic game.
11:36But it's held back from giving you the full emotional experience it's going for because it's being done by so many looks and sounds like Tails.
11:44So while it's tragic, he's barely threatening.
11:48Eggman's generated a billion robots.
11:50You're not going to make him look scary by making him do the same thing just as fruitlessly.
