00:03It starts in a jungle world where a different version of Rouge, Knuckles, and Big
00:07slide down some magically vertically hanging vines in a jungle.
00:12Just like in that jungle level in Sonic 06.
00:16And I forgot to see those characters do that before.
00:19Specifically, but sliding down vines isn't new, it happened in the games.
00:24At least it's gutsy to use another version of Big when he's so unpopular
00:28instead of anyone else.
00:31It would be better to use someone in the chaotic since there's more demand.
00:35But if Big's used creatively, I'd say someone else here should have been replaced instead.
00:41Someone in charge really loves the idea of a Rouge that's a mature leader type
00:45who isn't dressed girly and isn't interested in jewels
00:48instead of having any of the actual appeals of Rouge.
00:52Because it's used again.
00:55It would have been better to use Rebel Rouge more,
00:57but instead it makes it look to some people like someone doesn't respect Rouge as she was.
01:02Either that or the writers feel too much pressure to try to pander to people who
01:06would really hate the girly aspects of Rouge and...
01:10That's weird.
01:12She's looking for food,
01:13but freezes up in response to something hurtling towards her.
01:17I get to see Sonic land and moan in pain about it.
01:20He lampshades that his gloves and shoes have a new look.
01:25At least it's creative.
01:26It's interesting to see them look different every time.
01:30Big tells Knuckles he told him they were dangerous.
01:33So that's new.
01:34He's smart this time.
01:36I just have to assume he never got a bunch of concussions
01:39or had bad luck in the womb since that's the only way someone with the same biology as Bit
01:43could be cautious instead of willing to go to a dangerous airship unarmed.
01:47The fruit they found gets sent away from them by Sonic by accident,
01:51and somehow he's dumb enough to think those people are the same ones he already knew.
01:56Somehow, despite the fact that what he said made that obvious,
02:00and he hugged them,
02:01they somehow try to kill him anyway
02:04and think he's here to steal their supplies.
02:07So this makes no sense,
02:08and I can't wait for this nonsense to be over.
02:11It's insulting to my intelligence
02:13that I'm expected to think this is believable
02:15after he got the chance to refer to them by their names
02:18but with the word rebel behind them.
02:20Like he's in a jungle instead of New York City.
02:24Why would he think the people from New York City would be here?
02:27Why did it take Sonic so long to figure out what's going on?
02:32It seems miraculous that these people ever stopped trying to kill him
02:35since he never did anything differently from what he was doing earlier
02:38to make that happen or said anything really convincing.
02:42He sees his tails fall and grabs him.
02:45He's made a joke out of it because he makes a funny sound.
02:49There's no reason that after he clearly saved him,
02:52he'd get mad and try to attack him anyway.
02:54Like he's really, really stupid.
02:57It should be explained that he was bullied worse than Tails was.
03:01Because this really makes him look mentally challenged,
03:03like something really went wrong when he was in the womb.
03:06But it's much more simple to assume that it was just getting too many concussions.
03:12It turns out Manji doesn't fly.
03:15You're really not helping with the whole
03:17Manji coming off like he's really, really stupid
03:21and that's why he can't talk.
03:23It doesn't immediately seem like it makes sense that,
03:26oh yeah, of course he's a feral person.
03:28He's from the jungle.
03:30Because all the other jungle dwellers around him
03:33aren't feral people.
03:35They don't explain why he's like this.
03:38These people have different names from the real deal,
03:41but they all have the same personality of being one-note jerks.
03:45So I don't care enough to remember their names.
03:49Rouge's name here is Prem.
03:51I get the feeling she'll be the only truly important one
03:54because she's like Sally.
03:56So I'm going to memorize her name.
03:59Sonic asks if they know about the prism.
04:02And obviously one of the jerks was going to say
04:04that they have no clue where it is.
04:06So when Prem interrupted him saying otherwise,
04:09Sonic would have seen through this
04:11as an attempt at manipulating him into helping them.
04:14And if this was well written,
04:16it'd be explained that he's humoring them
04:17and playing dumb because it's safer
04:19and what other choice does he have?
04:23Prem says they're desperate for food at this point.
04:25And eventually Sonic says
04:28there's someone who could get them some food.
04:30And somehow they didn't immediately assume it was him
04:33even though they saw how fast he was
04:35so clearly he'd think he was unusually competent.
04:39They wait until night
04:41and Knuckles keeps getting rid of the plant life in the way.
04:45I guess he's called Gnarling.
04:47Why did they name a Sonic character after a Mario level?
04:49I bet the writer didn't even know that.
04:52Sonic says he should take it easy on the plant,
04:54which is dumb of him,
04:56but also in character
04:56since for once it reminds the fanbase
04:58that Sonic's supposed to be an environmentalist.
05:01And that's supposed to be the theme of the series.
05:04So it only seems like it comes out of nowhere
05:07and is jarring because
05:08it's not nearly as obvious about
05:10the environmentalism theme as Sadie-M is.
05:14Because you're never told
05:15the Chaos Council did a bunch of pollution.
05:18Because for all we know,
05:21most of the greenery in the world is still intact.
05:25My point is it kind of comes out of nowhere
05:26because Sonic hasn't talked like this until this point.
05:30Sonic's stupidity is lampshaded
05:32and Knuckles starts talking paranoidly
05:35that he's on the plant side
05:36as if that's somehow bad
05:38when plants aren't sentient monsters.
05:40If they were,
05:42then the world would be interesting
05:43instead of a cliché jungle.
05:45To be fair,
05:46I don't remember the concept
05:47of people desperate for food in a jungle
05:49being in Sonic before.
05:52So why is Knuckles really paranoid?
05:55What kind of bullying
05:56could Knuckles have possibly gone through?
05:59None of these worlds so far
06:01have acknowledged
06:02that Knuckles is the last echidna.
06:05So come to think of it,
06:06you'd think at least a few people
06:08would mistreat him
06:09because he's the only echidna
06:11and so he's rare.
06:13He could have been bullied for that.
06:15It's not like it makes sense
06:17because he's a jungle dweller
06:18because he's the only one
06:20who's ridiculously comedically so.
06:24They have to deal with a monster
06:26we don't get to see for a while.
06:28Once again,
06:29there's an extended period of time
06:30where Sonic's running away
06:32but now he's just being a pussy unjustifiably.
06:36Sonic looks dumb
06:37by saying that the monster
06:39is no monster
06:40just because it looks like a giant bird.
06:42He still fights it thankfully.
06:44I don't know why he keeps dodging
06:46instead of just repeatedly
06:47homing attacking it.
06:49He was clever
06:50by making sure it rammed into a tree.
06:52Sonic did that to Eve and Archie
06:54so whatever.
06:55He only knocked out the monster's pet
06:57and the monster ends up being Amy.
07:03She has a new design
07:04that looks impressively creative.
07:06I would have been more than slightly impressed
07:08with this pet for being a new idea for Amy
07:11but it's still just a combination of old ideas
07:14because it's not only another reference
07:16to Amy's association with a bird in Sonic Adventure
07:19but also reminded me of when Knuckles
07:21had a pet dinosaur in Underground.
07:23He cowardly runs away from the monster
07:26and is smacked to a tree from it.
07:28Then he somehow lets his guard down
07:30at seeing another Amy
07:32even though she's angrily brandishing a hammer
07:34that she hit him with in Sonic Riders
07:36repeatedly
07:37so he'd remember that and be scared.
07:40I already saw an evil Amy in Archie Sonic
07:43and at least that had explanations for it
07:45while this is just a little confusing
07:46and frustrating
07:47because I'm not told exactly what's wrong with her.
07:49Why does Sonic think she likes him
07:52when he can see she doesn't?
07:54He wants to be helpless
07:55and get knocked upwards.
07:57Not that I don't appreciate seeing him suffer
07:59because he's an idiot.
08:01He remembers seeing the real Amy smile
08:04and I hate the sound of the singing accompanying it
08:06as if this fake version of Sonic likes Amy.
08:09Clearly Amy was never deranged in his world.
08:12He gets knocked away again.
08:14He takes the mud off a bird
08:16and Thorne seeing him be nice
08:17must be why she doesn't attack him again right away
08:20and instead lectures them
08:21that scavengers like him
08:22took every bit of food the jungle had.
08:25So that's why she's bullying the people living here
08:27to get them away from here.
08:29She could look more on the right
08:31if it was proven that
08:33there was barely any food in the jungle as it was.
08:36So the only reason she's a bad guy
08:38is that she was too deranged to tell them this.
08:40To say there's tons of food somewhere else
08:42and point them in that direction.
08:45Even then they wouldn't like being forced to leave.
08:48Sonic wants to find a prism shard
08:50so she decides to help him with that
08:51because she wants to get him out of the jungle faster.
08:55Even though she could just kill him for that
08:56so clearly she's only being nice to it
08:58because he was nice to some birds.
09:00Sonic keeps idealistically reasoning with her
09:02when clearly there's no point.
09:05It's just annoying to watch this
09:06because he's being demonized for the wrong reason.
09:09Eventually he spin dashes to dig
09:11just like an Archie and finds the prism.
09:14So that was competent of him.
09:16He's knocked away
09:17and he says he should have seen that coming.
09:20To be fair, she gave him no indication
09:21that she'd want to take it.
09:23She expressed no reason for why she'd want it.
09:27She calls it the heart of the jungle
09:28which makes no sense
09:30because jungles can't have hearts.
09:33This episode by Brittany Jo Flores
09:36where Sonic wants to find a MacGuffin
09:38and puts up with violent morons in a jungle
09:40who do stuff for no reason
09:42was a little more frustrating than the other plots
09:45because every character is stupid this time
09:47and it's never explained
09:48why these characters all want to kill Sonic at first
09:51despite it being friendly with them.
09:53They have to be delusional
09:54to think he's their enemy after that.
09:57And how did they survive the jungle so long then?
10:01There's multiple characters in this plot
10:02that are frustratingly mentally ill
10:04and it doesn't have the guts to explain that outright
10:06and explain why just because the kids show.
10:09Like say that they fell out of trees a bunch of times
10:12because of the jungle.
10:14The idea that just confirming
10:15that characters in mental disorder
10:17all is ableist
10:18just because it inevitably inconveniences them
10:20is why there's hardly any representation of them
10:22to normalize them.
10:24My point is it's especially frustrating
10:25to see characters that look like characters
10:27we already know
10:28acting in such a dumb, irrational way
10:31since it's never explained why they are that way.
10:34It's justified a little
10:35because they're not the real deal
10:37but still feels disrespectful to their fans.
10:40I would have been a lot more angry at this episode
10:43if it weren't for the fact
10:44that I know most people hated this arc
10:46even when it first came out
10:47when most people were worshipping the show
10:49because the fanbase has no standards
10:51with the other continuity
10:52after Free Flynn Archie.
10:54Because they don't have all the same problems
10:56as the games
10:57and they're tired of all the mistakes in those
10:58due to their attachment to the world of the games.
11:01So I would have been more frustrated with this show
11:03if I had reviewed it earlier.
11:06But I was so paranoid of the copyright system on this site
11:08and I knew it was going to suck
11:10so I really didn't want to watch it.
11:12I'd rather these people not act this way at all
11:15but it could make sense.
11:17The simple explanation is
11:18Thorn gave them brain damage
11:20since we already know she hurts them.
11:22And I know that it's dark
11:24but it's already dark that they're this dumb
11:26and Meiji's a feral kid.
11:28So I wouldn't make it any more tragic
11:30to give the obvious explanation
11:32for why their brains don't work right
11:34that everyone already assumed.
11:37That's still a bit unsatisfying to me
11:39since I don't know if having a lot of concussions
11:40can make you delusional.
11:42Also, the story doesn't give the cavemen counterparts
11:45any good traits.
11:46They're just cliche, violent hunter-gatherers
11:50which is lazy and unlikable to write.
11:52And they're such jerks
11:53that the novelty of seeing versions of those characters
11:56depicted like this
11:57wears off right away
11:59because nothing's actually done with it.
12:02They're desperate for fruit
12:03but they would be that way
12:05even if they weren't hunter-gatherers.
12:07Because you don't need to be a hunter-gatherer
12:09to be desperate for food
12:10in a jungle where someone's beating up everyone
12:12who tries to further exhaust its food supply.
12:15A plot point that comes off
12:17is demonizing environmentalists
12:19or at least parodying them.
12:20Which is so against the theme of the franchise
12:23it's not even funny.
12:25The story feels like a waste of time in the end
12:27because they didn't see 9 again by the end of it.
12:30So it was a whole episode
12:31without a single tolerable character in it.
12:34And they could have easily cut some filler
12:36to make this faster.
12:38At least Thorne was an interesting creative character
12:41because of her motive.
