00:00Sonic Prime Situation Grim
00:02People get threatened by robots, and the story repeats the end of the last episode for no reason to pat things out,
00:11and the story mocks Sonic by having him whine lamely after he gets spun around.
00:16He's told off for being gone, rightfully so with what little info he has,
00:21and he helps him fight robots a little while while explaining himself to him.
00:25The story wastes time showing the Eggmen pointlessly whine about the heroes.
00:32They aren't intimidating. They don't sound scary or look scary.
00:37So what's the point of the scene?
00:39At least whenever Sadie M did this, Robotnik was scary.
00:44Better to try too hard than not try at all.
00:48These people are being comedy characters, but they're not even remotely charming.
00:53They're just annoying.
00:56Sonic gets heard saying he found another shard as an explanation for why he wants to know where Nine is.
01:02This is forced because it would have been assumed that he wanted to know where his friend was.
01:08Rebel Rouge is annoyed at Sonic deserting them earlier,
01:11since she thinks him doing that meant he never cared about them and was just using them.
01:15So what's the point of making them all jerks?
01:19I thought we were supposed to sympathize with them.
01:22One of them that I don't know with no personality wants to kill Sonic.
01:27It's understandable from their perspective that they'd be mad at someone for leaving.
01:32It just seems like a complete overreaction because I've already read Archie Sonic.
01:37There are far worse ways that someone can betray your team.
01:41It's not like he did anything bad to them.
01:44He didn't slap a member of their team.
01:46This would be like the Sonic the Comic Freedom Fighters hating Porker because he left.
01:53Nine took the shard and left the heroes to fight robots on their own.
01:57Even though they never acted like they judged him for having two tails,
02:01so they could have been the only other people who had any chance of being his friends after he just lost Sonic.
02:08But since the Rebels were never nice to him,
02:11I guess it's not forced that he'd assume everyone thinks he looks like a freak,
02:16assuming that not everyone who ever sees him makes fun of his looks.
02:20Because why would they when he looks scary?
02:23I guess I can't fault him for thinking they'd never warm up to him because of that.
02:29And he just fell back into old habits.
02:32He thought he was lucky he ever got anyone accepting of him,
02:35so it'd be too good to be true if they did.
02:37Even if he thought there was a possibility.
02:40He might have just ignored that possibility to avoid being disappointed.
02:44And he's always not fought Eggman so that he wouldn't have to risk being kidnapped by him.
02:51He didn't want to just be used, I guess.
02:55I like that he waited a little while before deciding to leave them,
02:59which means that he had to consider it.
03:01So it acknowledges that he thinks there's good reasons to do both actions.
03:08The story keeps annoyingly wasting my time dragging out the jerks being jerks to Sonic.
03:13To be fair, they could be worse.
03:16They never talk like he's never been useful and call him reckless or stupid so far.
03:22And are not supposed to ship any of them with Sonic in spite of that.
03:26It turns out he's been gone for weeks.
03:29What is the point of there being multiple different time speeds depending on the dimension?
03:34It doesn't actually impact the plot.
03:38Archie Sonic did this kind of thing first.
03:41They show Sonic the palm tree hologram as a representation of how they want the city to go back to how it used to look.
03:49Even though cities aren't inherently bad.
03:52These buildings have a purpose.
03:55A lot of them are houses.
03:57And a lot of them are businesses.
03:59I get them wanting more granary.
04:02But it's going to inconvenience the people there.
04:05If something happens to the council.
04:07And then they're going to what?
04:09Start blowing up buildings?
04:12The heroes will get into a robot fight.
04:14It's cool to see normal people face robots holding ray guns.
04:19It reminds me of forces but they aren't using lame whispers this time.
04:24Sonic's effectively fighting the robots one by one.
04:27And it's about to homie attack another one just the same way.
04:31So it makes no sense that he got smacked into a wall and rendered helpless.
04:35Because he's supposed to be as fast as sound.
04:37But the robot didn't start a swinging attack until after Sonic had started to head towards it and was close to it.
04:43But he's moving it over 600 miles per hour.
04:46So it attacked him impossibly fast in a world where Eggman didn't program his robot to be as fast as Sonic to deal with him.
04:52And there's no reason he would because he disappeared so as far as he knew, he'd never see Sonic again.
05:02It would have been more believable if it was in the process of attacking someone else and he got in the way because he attacked him from a bad angle in his hurry.
05:10Nine goes to save them in aircraft that came out of a portal.
05:14He doesn't act surprised at seeing that Sonic's alive.
05:18So he must have found out earlier from a security camera.
05:22I'd much rather have seen that than see the Eggman see Sonic.
05:27I suppose it makes sense that he'd have security cameras floating around so that he'd know when robots are just outside of the lab he lives in.
05:35A lab that must have once belonged to someone else and then he co-opted it.
05:41It's kind of sweet to see Sonic happily complimenting him when he got into his aircraft as Nine smiles.
05:47Nine's interested enough to insist on finding out what Sonic had to deal with when he wasn't around him before he does anything for him.
05:55It is controlling.
05:57It's skewed priorities.
05:58But it shows that he cares.
06:00Sonic's adventures have nothing to do with him.
06:03There's a flashback that's mercifully short.
06:06And afterwards, Sonic explains that he found him after that.
06:10So there was a time skip and implied that he told him everything.
06:14So that mercifully cuts down the padding.
06:17So it's merciful that it didn't take a billion years showing every word of Sonic's explanation to him.
06:25Nine reveals he made it so that he could go to any universe by flying his aircraft.
06:30It's a little impressive.
06:31It's the first time a version of Tails has made this.
06:36I would have been a lot more impressed if I hadn't seen Rick and Morty do this first.
06:41The real reason I'm not that impressed is that he needs the prism to do this.
06:46Which is only a show exclusive thing.
06:49So it's not really telling me that Tails could make this.
06:53It's actually nice to see him look happy when telling him that he can make this empty red planet with no people in it.
06:59A clean slate from which to start a new world with the two of them if he got enough shard energy.
07:03There are actually places in the world with red rocky ground like this.
07:09So this doesn't necessarily tell me that the entire planet looks like this.
07:15Otherwise it would have to be magic that has to be breathable air here without plants to produce it.
07:20It's interesting to see a version of Tails want to make a world for himself.
07:26That's never happened.
07:28He should have known Sonic wouldn't want to stay with him all day every day in a place with nothing fun to do and no one else to talk to.
07:36With no proof that there's any DVDs for him to watch or video games to play.
07:43Because he already knows he had a nice past with some other version of him in another universe.
07:49If he had thought this through for even a second he would have realized that Sonic would get bored here minutes later.
07:56And so would he.
07:58He should have just assumed Sonic would rather go home because he had friends in that place.
08:02And I don't know why he'd need more shard energy other than to be able to make more things in a smaller amount of time.
08:11But he doesn't really need to fill the entire planet with stuff that he's made.
08:17All he'd have to do is make some nanobots and tell them to get to work.
08:22And then he could have the entire planet full of stuff that he wants them to make.
08:27But I guess he hasn't watched enough sci-fi to figure that out.
08:31But it intuitively makes sense that Tails would want this if he completely gave up on the idea that anybody would like him other than Sonic by being bullied a lot longer before Sonic found him.
08:44Back when he had the impression that everyone would bully him but Sonic anyway.
08:48He hasn't gotten treated like a hero by anyone yet which would get him to like people again.
08:53And for all we know with how little we were told about Tails in his first game the real Tails would have had the same plan here if he had just gone through Sonic 2 but hadn't found out he got the respect of the average person because of his association with Sonic.
09:08I guess a lot of people assumed that Tails warmed up to humanity right after Sonic 2 or maybe the second they freed an animal from a badnik together just because he's a good person.
09:19But that's unrealistically fast.
09:23He kind of had no reason to be a good person at that point because he was bullied before he met Sonic by everyone.
09:31He'd have to be especially amazing as a person to still have a positive outlook on people at that point.
09:38Sonic's someone he idolizes so he could have assumed Sonic would be the only person who'd ever accept him because he's just that great.
09:45And repeatedly thought of any normal person who approved of him as just the exceptions to the rule until he'd have eventually understood otherwise.
09:54The show's so predictable and it's instantly obvious at this point that it's going to keep using this desire of his to make a world with the things Sonic needs to get home.
10:04So it turns out it wasn't much of a spoiler to imply he deserves to suffer in the show when it already gave away that he's a villain from the first season.
10:13He has a goal that is only ever given to villains even though it's not an inherently evil thing to want to make a world.
10:249 hates the idea of protecting the resistance because he was bullied in that city so he owes it nothing.
10:29Yeah, I sort of get some people being offended at 9 trying out selfish without Sonic.
10:36Because since we only ever saw Tails being nice, they have an idealized idea of Tails being pure of heart.
10:43But we were never told about his view on humanity and morality before he befriended Sonic.
10:48All we knew about Tails in the classic games personality wise was that he was tolerable enough with Sonic that Sonic let him help him and him being polite to Sonic says nothing about whether he was cynical with most people.
11:04I'm just talking about what was implied about his personality in the games.
11:09The manuals aren't written by the people who came up with the stories for the games.
11:13So they're just fanfiction.
11:16At first he had no reason to care if Bagman took over the world because his life would have still been the same.
11:22The idea that Sonic made him a good person again after he wasn't one makes Sonic's influence on Tails all the more important.
11:31It makes it so that Sonic did something a lot better than we thought.
11:34It really reflects well on Sonic.
11:37He's the main character so it makes sense to be nicer to Sonic than Tails.
11:44It's not as interesting and easy to get invested in if Tails was inexplicably still a good naive person.
11:51Even without Sonic inspiring him to be better.
11:54Which was a constant theme throughout the series with other characters that Sonic inspired to become heroes.
11:59Or just better people in general.
12:02Like Knuckles and Blaze and Elise and Chimp.
12:05Sonic said that he wanted to help the heroes of a city that brought him nothing but suffering.
12:10Still, Knight is nice enough to open a portal to let Sonic go help those people.
12:15But since he's still evil, I have to assume that he only did this because he wanted to get Sonic away from him since he was mad at him.
12:22And he was hoping that he would survive helping them.
12:25And then if he finished helping them, he'd be cooperative with him the next time he saw him.
12:30Or if he needed his help, then he'd be grateful to him if he saved him.
12:35And he would use cameras to find out if he needed his help.
12:40That would be sending signals through a constantly open portal.
12:43I mean, he's taking a big risk with the only person who's ever liked him for who he was.
12:49By letting him go help a bunch of people.
12:52Even though when he first met him, Sonic got kidnapped by a giant robot.
12:56And needed other people to even survive the situation.
13:00It's kind of weird that someone so paranoid and pessimistic would have total faith that Sonic would survive being sent to fight robots alone.
13:08Apparently, he's completely blinded by his hatred of the people in that city.
13:13So he's not letting himself pay attention to how dangerous it is for Sonic to fight without his help.
13:21There's some uncreative robot fighting.
13:23And somehow, people as competent as Sonic and Rebel Rouge get knocked over and made helpless after all their experience fighting robots.
13:30But the aircraft from 9 saves them.
13:33Which is satisfying to see.
13:36So I'm impressed that 9 actually realized that Sonic could get killed by fighting without him.
13:429 of course says that this is the last time he's coming back here.
13:46And he's going to go back to that red planet as soon as he's done this.
13:509 having this aircraft would have been more satisfying narratively if I had seen him discover it.
13:56And take it from Eggman.
13:58It's just not as impressive if 9 only has his lab because he stole a lab from Eggman that was abandoned.
14:07But it doesn't make any sense that a little kid would have made a lab for himself.
14:14That made no sense in Tails' original backstory.
14:17He would have to take a lab that someone had abandoned.
14:21He was just focusing on the flying robot threatening to shoot his aircraft.
14:24So he would have known where it was from the noise it made and stuff.
14:29So why does he look in the opposite direction from the robot that's about to shoot at the aircraft to make it start falling?
14:35He would have flown it up or down more.
14:37Or turned it left or right so it could have avoided a laser.
14:41Why did he just do nothing for a few seconds when that's dumb no matter where the robot is?
14:45He's just made too incompetent to avoid it getting shot at because the plot demands it.
14:51When he was nothing but competent before this point.
14:54It's too damaged to even let him make a portal.
14:57It's also frustrating because the way it works out is that the story punished him for doing something good by saving Sonic.
15:04Even though he did it for entirely a selfish reason.
15:07That he would be devastated if he lost him because then he would have to go back to being alone for the rest of his life.
15:15But now he knows what he's missing.
15:17I like the Knuckles punch some solid metal block into a robot.
15:22That's a little more interesting than punching it directly.
15:24And I guess this was new.
15:25A pleasant surprise is that the heroes forgive Sonic already for leaving them because he helps them with one fight that they would have won without him.
15:34Aside from one that we know nothing about who isn't more in power than Rouge.
15:38So we have no reason to be especially invested.
15:41The story ends with 9 getting his prisms taken from him because he had to use him to power the aircraft at all.
15:47And so they're in the aircraft.
15:50It's more frustrating than dramatic because there's no way this would have happened.
15:54I guess it's karma.
15:57This story by Marcus Reinhardt was about Sonic fighting some weak robots uncreatively to help the resistance who make me put up with them hating him for abandoning them unwillfully.
16:09Which stops being justified after he told them he didn't mean to.
16:13And 9 got an aircraft.
16:15So he saved them from a situation that there's no way he would have ever been lame enough to get into after all of his robot fighting experience.
16:22But then 9's forced by the writer to do nothing when his aircraft's being threatened with damage by a flying robot he already knew about.
16:30So his prison charge gets taken because he didn't even try to have it dodge a potential attack.
16:36Surely you could have justified his aircraft being shot by a laser properly.
16:42The laser could have been shot by a robot that was behind him while he wasn't looking behind him.
16:50This was another bad episode because it was annoying how Sonic was being treated with resentment for the wrong reason.
16:56But it's the most easy to tolerate one so far because most of it didn't have Sonic be an idiot.
17:01And it wasn't as consistently boring as the earlier ones.
17:06It still wasted a bunch of time as usual though.
17:09The most disappointing thing about this is that it's underwhelming that I never saw 9's reaction to discovering Sonic was still alive.
