00:00How about New Mexico taking on Minnesota today, 4.30 p.m. in the Rape Bowl?
00:05No, I'm assuming that's a mortgage company.
00:07I have no idea.
00:08But it's New Mexico and Minnesota.
00:10The line opened up, Joe, three and a half.
00:12We're not seeing one and a half in the marketplace.
00:14In a total, that was 47 and a half down to 43 and a half.
00:17Maybe they saw Minnesota might be starting Max Brosmer and bringing him back.
00:21Oh, no, that's the Minnesota Vikings.
00:22What could be the reason for the drop?
00:24And what's your spread line here, Joe?
00:25Well, it's interesting because this game played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
00:31You know where that is there, Donnie.
00:33And listen, Minnesota fans travel pretty well, but it's not like New Mexico's around the country here.
00:40Their fans will be in attendance.
00:42So this should actually be a pretty entertaining game.
00:45And really, the big story in this one is we saw Minnesota look ahead, open up at as a three, three and a half point favorite.
00:52A lot of that has to do with the fact that, well, P.J. Fleck is undefeated at bowl games, guys, with the Golden Gophers.
00:57Six and O over the last six seasons, he is in bowl games.
01:02But the problem is the public loves Minnesota because they see a Big Ten team against a Mountain West team.
01:08Even though a pretty good Mountain West team and a mediocre Big Ten team, well, that's, yeah, we see a lot of public money.
01:14I mean, but the problem is tickets, money on Minnesota, the line is moving back towards New Mexico now.
01:21We're seeing one and a halves in the marketplace, Donnie, which makes total sense.
01:25Be very careful with these mediocre Power Four teams playing this group of five with a chip on their shoulder.
01:32Michigan took them pretty lightly earlier in the season, New Mexico.
01:36Remember how that worked out.
01:37So I'd be careful.
01:39There's not a ton of crazy opt-outs in this game.
01:42P.J. Fleck has a pretty young team there in Minnesota.
01:46But it appears we got our very first pros versus Joes here today, Donnie.
01:51The pros love New Mexico.
01:53The Joes, they're all over Minnesota.
01:55Let's get after it.
01:56Florida International and UTSA from Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
02:01That's SMU's home ground here.
02:02And by the way, this line opened up, Joe, at a nine and a half point favorite.
02:05We now see five and a halves across the board in a total that looks like it's going to be at 60 and a half by the time we get underway tonight.
02:12The serve pro, first responders bowl.
02:15What's the spread line for you, Joe?
02:17Well, my spread line and advice in this one is stay as far away as humanly possible.
02:23Because when you see a line go from nine and a half, ten, and it shoot down to four and a half, five and a half points here, we've got a problem.
02:31And you want to know the biggest problem, Donnie?
02:34Is I can't for the life of me figure out who's playing in this game.
02:37Like, UTSA is expected to be without up to 20 of its players, 20, Donnie, of its players in this game.
02:46And FIU wasn't that good to begin with.
02:49And half of their starters on the offensive and defensive side won't be playing in this game.
02:53So my advice is, yeah, this is truly bowl season in a nutshell, is there are some games just worth not even looking at.
03:02This could very well be one of them.
03:04Now, we might have the perfect bowl game of the bowl season here, Joe.
03:07This is going to take place tomorrow morning.
03:09Yes, Saturday morning, 11 a.m.
03:11It's Pittsburgh and it's East Carolina.
03:13This line opened up as a favorite towards Pittsburgh, Joe.
03:15Anywhere around six is that opening number.
03:17We're now seeing double digits across the board.
03:19Most outlets chiming in at ten and a half in the total, which that look ahead number was 61 and a half.
03:24We're now seeing 52 and a half in the marketplace.
03:27The go bowling, military bowl, Pittsburgh and ECU.
03:32What do you got, Joe, on a spread line here?
03:33Well, the big story here is who East Carolina is not going to have.
03:39And you got to be on the lookout in these bowl games for this, right?
03:42East Carolina will not have its starting quarterback, Caten Hauser.
03:45He's in the transfer portal.
03:47Already said he's not playing.
03:48Pitt's going to be without their second leading rusher and second leading tackler on defense.
03:53Not to mention both of East Carolina's coordinators, the defensive and offensive coordinator, have left for new jobs.
04:02So we've got a lot of newness on the East Carolina side.
04:06So it's not a shock that we've seen the money and the line move towards Pittsburgh here.
04:10But what I do find interesting is the total, Donnie, because as much as Darduzzi is known as a defensive guy,
04:18this guy has given up more points, 94, 72, 52, and 64 points are the last four bowl games that Pitt has played in,
04:28including a what, triple, quadruple overtime game last year.
04:32So I would be careful with the total here.
04:35Yes, he's known as a defensive head coach, but the defense don't show up in bowl games for Narduzzi.
04:40It seems like a far away, like we just got round one of the playoffs in NCAA action.
04:46Oh, they're not playing again for two weeks.
04:47But hey, you get the holidays, you get through this weekend, you watch some NFL, Joe.
04:51By midweek next week, you're talking about some playoff football back in our lives,
04:54which starts on New Year's Eve, 7.30 p.m.
04:59The Hurricanes and the Buckeyes.
05:01Here's what's interesting to me, Joe, and I need your help on this too,
05:04because Miami is a good football team.
05:06Ohio State's a good football team.
05:07And everybody left in the actual tournament is a good football team.
05:10The line sits at 9.5.
05:12It hasn't moved just about everywhere.
05:15Ticket count has Ohio State around 40% to 45%, and a total of 42.5.
05:20The question I want to ask you is, all season long,
05:22we talked about Ohio State being the best team in the country,
05:25but then you see them lose against Indiana in a lower-scoring game.
05:28Miami's got a great defense, can put pressure on the quarterback.
05:31Is this just too many points, or is the odds maker saying,
05:35oh, you can't, you better take Miami 9.5.
05:38That's way too many points.
05:39What's your feeling on this game, point spread-wise, a couple days out?
05:43Well, I mean, I can tell you already, I mean, we know the public loves themselves
05:48some Ohio State, right, defending champions.
05:51And the public's looking at it, Donnie, as if, well,
05:54they've got to be this big a favorite for a reason, right?
05:57And yet we have not seen this line move one way or the other, right?
06:01And I think the Mario Cristobal effect is alive and well in the market.
06:06That means that the reputation of Mario Cristobal on a neutral site in a big game,
06:13it's kind of hard to wrap your head around the idea that he's going to push
06:17the right buttons at the right time.
06:20But we don't know.
06:21You know, this is a totally different world because nobody thought he was going
06:25to be able to go to Pittsburgh and play in the cold.
06:27Nobody thought he'd go to Texas A&M.
06:30So maybe, just maybe, all that we think we know about Mario Cristobal's coaching
06:35ability, they'll throw it out the window when you've got this kind of talent
06:38on the team.
06:39Let's bring in the coach, Terry Bowden here.
06:41We need that insight because we've got round two of the playoffs starting next week
06:45at the ball sites.
06:45Coach, we're just talking about Miami taking on Ohio State, close to a 10-point spread.
06:50How are we playing this out?
06:51Two really good defenses, Coach.
06:53It really is.
06:55It's an outstanding game.
06:57The spread's almost too enticing not to take the spread in this game.
07:01And I agree with what y'all just talked about.
07:03Mario, he struggled in decision-making in a lot of big games down the road.
07:08And this is a big game for them.
07:11But it's also a chance for Ohio State as a team that they showed some cracks in the
07:16armor again against Indiana.
07:18So I think they have some too.
07:19But overall, I think they're just too strong of a football team overall.
07:24I think it's going to be a battle.
07:25It's going to be a struggle.
07:26But I do see Ohio State pulling away at the end.
07:29But I like the points.
07:30I'm going to go with Miami and the points on this one.
07:33Their defense can match speed with Ohio State.
07:36And their offensive line is elite at Miami, which is the two things they need to have.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Yep.
07:44Yep.
07:44They really do.
07:45I mean, Coach, and if it's, you know, back-to-back, it's hard to do.
07:49Is it not in college football, Coach?
07:51I mean, if Ohio State gets away with this one here against Miami, in your mind, are they
07:58still the favorite to beat?
08:00Yeah, I think Ohio State is probably, well, I've got them in Indiana probably pretty dang
08:05close.
08:06But I think they are the team to beat.
08:08Just because when it comes to late in the championship run, I always look back to talent.
08:14Who has the most talent, the depth of talent?
08:17And Ohio State is still that team.
08:19Indiana covers it with great fundamentals and being fundamentally sound.
08:23But at this point, Georgia can be in the hunt.
08:26Texas Tech, Oregon.
08:27We've got outstanding and elite teams out there.
08:31Alabama people bring on the other end of the spectrum that still are talented enough to
08:36pull off something, but those would have to be upsets.
08:40Capital One Orange Bowl coach there going to be played on New Year's Day, 12 o'clock
08:44start.
08:44It's Oregon and Texas Tech, two of the biggest payrolls.
08:47Who ever thought we'd say that in college football?
08:49And look at that line, Coach.
08:50Slight favorite to Oregon.
08:51Dan Lanning and the boys going up against Texas Tech.
08:54I love this game.
08:55How are you playing this one out?
08:57Well, I'll tell you, this is my favorite.
08:58These are two of my sleeper teams, and it's one I'm looking forward to playing.
09:03I don't think Texas Tech has played anybody with the talent that Oregon has, but Texas
09:08Tech has talent of their own.
09:10So it's basically the great defensive front of Texas Tech versus the speed and running
09:15game of Oregon.
09:17And they'll win the dual threat quarterback, I think, goes to Oregon.
09:21But really, Texas Tech's had a month to prepare.
09:24I think they do a great job.
09:25I think the talent, I'm picking the upset here.
09:27I'm going with Texas Tech in this one.
09:29Well, they answered the questions, Alabama, about whether or not, you know, we should
09:35look to fade them.
09:36They've advanced.
09:37Congratulations.
09:38Now you get to take on Indiana.
09:40What happens here, Coach?
09:42Well, golly, this is probably the biggest matchup of a mismatch of what we have left.
09:47I think if you're going to say, is there going to be any runaways, this possibly could
09:51be it.
09:52I mean, Alabama is going to have to get a great performance.
09:54I think it comes down to Ty Simpson, not because he's the best player, because he has the most
09:58pressure on him.
10:00He's a quarterback on a team that cannot run the ball against a team that has no basic
10:05weaknesses.
10:07Rush defense, top 10 at Indiana.
10:10They can put pressure.
10:11They can score.
10:12I think that's a lot of pressure on Ty.
10:14I think they play as well as they can, but I think I've got to take the points and Indiana
10:20in this one.
10:21They're just too good overall, and I think Alabama has no running game, put a lot of pressure
10:25on a quarterback in a team that is more Alabama-like than Alabama.
10:31Coach, to the SEC we go in the Sugar Bowl.
10:33Ole Miss going to take on Georgia.
10:35That look ahead line was six and a half.
10:36It still sits, Coach, at six and a half today.
10:39Look at those points.
10:4056 and a half.
10:41Ole Miss, Georgia.
10:43We're expecting points in this one, are we, Coach?
10:45Well, you know, both offenses, I mean, Ole Miss has scored points.
10:49They're balanced.
10:49They can run and they can throw, and they found a way to score points.
10:52Their quarterback has been fabulous, a lot of touchdown passes, very few interceptions.
10:57He had a perfect game against Georgia last time, and Georgia had a perfect game.
11:02Five scores on their five drives to open up with, but Georgia is playing their best football.
11:07Georgia has had little distractions and a lot of focus, a lot of time to prepare, almost
11:13a month to prepare for this Ole Miss team.
11:16Distractions at Ole Miss, they've been there.
11:18They've been able to overcome them, but I think they'll be there and play well.
11:23But I'm taking Georgia, and then Georgia to cover on this one.
11:27Georgia is at that point where I think they probably are the SEC team that has a chance
11:31to compete for the national championship.
11:33Yeah, excited to watch this play out, Coach.
11:35We've got four fantastic games on the horizon.
11:37We'll have you once again tomorrow on college football today, right here on the Sports Grid
11:40Network.
11:41Three bowl games today, a full slate on a Saturday, and away we go, Coach.
11:45It's a great time of the year, Coach, isn't it?
11:47That championship time.
11:48I love it.
11:48It's football season.
11:51Absolutely.
11:52Thanks for joining us, Coach.
11:53Once again, we'll have you back tomorrow.
11:54Fantastic.
11:54On a football Friday.
11:56Enjoy the rest of your day.
11:56We'll talk to you tomorrow.
11:57For Donnie and Joe, we'll be right back after this short break.
