00:00You got to get your spread lines. You got to get your headlines. You got to get your odds,
00:03people. It's what we do right here on the early line. We rise and grind. We bring that energy.
00:07We set you up for the weekend with information that you need to know and understanding that
00:11when you talk about spread lines, it's headlines and it spreads and what you need to know. And
00:16some of these games might not be on the top of the docket, but my guy, Joe Ranieri,
00:20teased you up for why we're talking about these games. UNLV Wyoming, what? Seven o'clock on a
00:26Saturday night, a five and a half point opening line, dipping now down to three and a half a
00:30total at 52 and a half, dipping now down to under 50. The spread line between UNLV and Wyoming,
00:36Joe Ranieri, is what? Well, you just said it, Donnie, right? So ask yourself this. Is the public
00:42really running through the window watching a Wyoming game? So how does that spread drop to
00:49points? I'll tell you how. UNLV might be the biggest fraud in the country right now,
00:56sitting at four and oh, and they have had one of the most ridiculous schedule of teams thus far.
01:01They've beaten, let's see, UCLA, Sam Houston State, Idaho State, and Miami of Ohio. Those teams
01:08combined, Donnie, zero wins on the season. And meanwhile, this Wyoming team has played a much
01:15tougher schedule and playing in Laramie is a different ball game than playing in Las Vegas
01:23in the dome, right? The weather is scheduled to be extremely windy in this game. It's going to be
01:30cold. It's going to be a totally different atmosphere. That's why you've seen the total
01:35begin to drop in this one. Double digit wind gusts consistently in that game are going to make
01:42throwing the ball very difficult for UNLV, not to mention Wyoming has gone 13 and one against the
01:48number as a conference dog of more than a field goal over the last 10 seasons. They also won eight
01:54of those 14 games, Donnie, outright. This is a real home field advantage. Look to back Wyoming tonight,
02:01maybe even sprinkle a little something on the money line and look at that under that wind will be
02:07howling in Laramie tonight. Oh, we love college football. And by the way, the next game we're
02:11going to talk about is a 12 o'clock start just in time for sports grid college football today,
02:1610 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a kickoff there between Illinois and Purdue setting the table for this one,
02:21Joe. Open up over double digits around a 10 and a half point spread. It's now under double digits at
02:26nine and a half at most outlets. You're looking at the total here around 54 and a half to 55 and a half.
02:31Illinois and Purdue in the big 10. The spread line for this game, Joe, is what?
02:34Yeah. Well, Illinois bounces back last week with a big win against USC after getting absolutely
02:40crushed the week prior by Indiana. This is the quintessential flat spot, Donnie. After having
02:48to go through the roller coaster of emotions over the last couple of weeks, the question you have
02:54to ask yourself is, and the market has to ask themselves, is which Illinois team is actually
02:59showing up? This is a rivalry game going back over the last couple of decades. And oh, yeah,
03:05by the way, in this series, the underdog has gone 12 and six since 2005. And both of these teams
03:12have played really difficult schedules. And yet, Donnie, when you dive into some of the metrics,
03:17you're talking about a difference of 0.1 yards per play between these two offenses.
03:230.1, which means the Boilermakers are going to have a good opportunity to move the ball
03:30here on this Illinois defense. And road conference favorites of more than a touchdown coming off
03:36that upset win over a ranked opponent. Flat spot, 72-88-3 against the number over the last
03:42two decades. Look for Purdue to be a lot closer in this game than people think.
03:47Oh, boy. Let's take a look. Also, another noon start here. Iowa State and Cincinnati. Oh, isn't
03:53that Rocco Beck? That's not a good football team at Iowa State. Look at that. They opened up as the
03:56favorites in that ballgame. Now, they're no longer the favorites. It's the Cincinnati Bearcats at a
04:01minus one and a half price point. And a total, let's say, 55 and a half. Iowa State on the road at
04:07Cincinnati. Joe, the spread line here is what? Well, Iowa State looked pretty good last week right at
04:12home against Arizona, but they might be running into a brick wall in this game against Cincinnati.
04:19First of all, Iowa State has lost not one but two All-American quarterbacks to season-ending
04:23injuries now. And now they have to take on one of the hottest quarterbacks in the country with
04:28Brendan Soresby here and this offense. Iowa State, by the way, has zero pass rush. It ranks just about
04:36dead last in that category. And it's alongside teams like UCLA and North Carolina. That is how
04:42little they pressure the quarterback. So how are they going to slow down this red-hot Cincinnati
04:47offense? Also keep in mind the kicking game in special teams of Iowa State. Injuries to both the
04:54place kicker and the punter are going to get things a little complicated here. I think Cincinnati on the
05:01road gets it done, but it wouldn't shock me here if Iowa State loses this game in a big way.
05:07It's a football Friday right here on the early line on the Sports Grid Network, and it's time to
05:12get down to the business. I'm Donnie Wright's side. He's Joe Ranieri. Let's bring in coach Terry
05:16Bowden. You see him all over the Sports Grid Network giving you the information that you need to set up
05:20your Saturdays. Coach, love when you're here. Thanks for joining us this morning. I just hope we're not
05:25going to stick on the WNBA, please. Let's go on to college football. College football is the name
05:32of the game today. And by the way, coach, I know maybe you're in tight with Chief Osceola because
05:35we got a big one down in Tallahassee this weekend. The Miami Hurricanes, the Florida State Seminoles.
05:41And coach, I want to start here even without the spread line itself. Football is better when Miami
05:46and Florida State have meaningful, impactful games. Over the years, you've had a front seat to all of
05:52this year. Talk about the passion between Miami and Florida State and how big it is to the state
05:57of Florida and the nation when both of these teams are good. You're exactly right. For almost two
06:02decades, that was the game of the year every year. Miami, Florida State, Florida State, Miami. It was
06:09always Bobby Bowden because he was there 34 years, but it went from Howard Snellenberger to the next coach
06:15to Dennis Erickson to Jimmy Johnson. They kept winning and kept winning. My dad would have had eight
06:20national championships if he just had not missed field goals against Miami.
06:26Coach, I mean, tell me about this game now because I'm fascinated with the total. I still think we're
06:33getting points in this game, but the market seems to be pushing this total down. Who does that favor? I
06:39mean, who do you like in this game? Are we looking shootout or is this going to be all in the trenches?
06:45Well, you know what I think I'm worried about? I think it's more of a shootout. After watching the
06:49Virginia game, I'm concerned about FSU's defense. They could not get Virginia off the field. That
06:57didn't look like an upset. That wasn't eight fumbles or interceptions galore. That was a 75
07:03play 12, 12 play 75 yard drive once, 12 play 70 yard drive twice, three times, 67% third downs.
07:12I'm concerned that playing a good team like Miami, FSU won't be able to get them off the field a lot.
07:18It'll be up to Tommy Castellanos to stay on the field. He's got to have a great day because I've
07:24got Miami's defense is number one in the ACC. And right now, because of the concern I have for
07:30FSU's defense, I think it's an epic. It's a Miami game to win.
07:36It's going to be so much fun to watch this play out all the pomp circumstance in the
07:39Padres. Two top 20 teams here. And it's going to decide probably the ACC in the longterm here,
07:44at least who gets to that championship game, but coach, another great game in the state of Florida.
07:48Record wise, not maybe, maybe the case, the Florida Gators. How about this line against
07:53the Texas Longhorns opened up over a touchdown coach. You'll see this graphic pop up. We're down
07:58to four and a half. Arch Manning and the boys on the road, maybe a last stand for the Gators on
08:03Saturday. Well, there will be a last stand, but it'll be Texas scoring in the scoring in the last
08:09minute. I mean, I like the thing because they're going to win by a touch. This is going to be
08:12the Miami game all over again, where Florida, because they're playing great defense and they
08:18play great defense all year. They're going to contain Texas, contain Texas. Texas has overachieved.
08:24Arch Manning has underachieved offensively. Arch Manning has underachieved. I think it's a
08:29defensive football game. They've got an excellent defense in Texas, lacking offensively at Florida
08:35as well. It's going to be a defensive game, but in the fourth quarter with it close, I think Texas
08:40gets that final touchdown and wins by seven. Coach, you got to love it. A year ago, we watch
08:47Alabama beat Georgia. Everybody's celebrating, and then all of a sudden, Bama's got to take on
08:53Vanderbilt. Oh, that didn't work out well. And wouldn't you know it, Coach, they just beat
08:58Georgia, and now they got to take on Vandy again here this week. So what happens in this battle of
09:04top 25 teams? Well, no surprises now for Alabama. We've all accepted the fact that
09:10Bandy is for real, and they've had 12 months to think about it after. And that whole town,
09:17that whole program was miserable after the Vanderbilt game last year. Nothing made them
09:22feel better after that football game. So it's always been circled on their calendar as the big
09:27game coming up. And I believe Alabama is more like they used to be now after I watched them
09:32against Georgia. So Bandy, they're for real, and I love the way they play, but Alabama's going to win.
09:38But give me Bandy and the points. They're not going to beat Bob Bandy by 10 points.
09:43Diego Pavi and the boys looking to do something. It'll be unheard of. Back-to-back victories for
09:48Vanderbilt over Alabama, even in Alabama. We'll see that play out on a Saturday, Coach. But also,
09:53I know you got to love this. Resurrecting a team that says, you know what? We're still in it here
09:58for the season. Notre Dame off to the 0-2 start, but against two ranked opponents. They cleaned up
10:03their act over the past two games. Now going to face Boise at home as close to a three-touchdown
10:07favorite. Coach, Notre Dame looking really good on offense now, huh?
10:12They have. They've averaged 56 points the last couple of games. They're on a two-game streak.
10:16But Boise, after losing that opener against South Florida, are on a three-game winning streak.
10:22And when I look at this game, I don't look at who's going to win. I think Notre Dame's going to win.
10:25I look at that 20.5, those points. They're both running teams. Both are going to run the football.
10:31And when two teams run the football, the clock keeps running. So it's not like Notre Dame can't
10:36win. They're just comfortable winning by 20, not 21.
10:42Looks like one of the best offenses we have seen in a very long time with this kid Carr. He's the
10:49real deal here, Coach. But that defense don't look like what it was a year ago for Notre Dame,
10:55though. Is that the issue with this team?
10:57Well, I think that's where you have to control yourself. I'm not saying they're terrible on
11:02defense, but they were so good last year that kept them in ballgames. I think we've still
11:06got to see this. The Boise is just not that bad of a football team. They're going to have
11:10three backs that run the football. And I'm not saying they can beat Notre Dame. Notre Dame,
11:14I think Notre Dame has a chance to run the table and get back in the playoff hunt because
11:19I had pretty much X them out after two losses. But the way they've been playing, I've got them
11:24winning. I've got them winning this game. I just think the way the two teams are
11:27going to play, the way they're going to run the football, and Boise's kind of on a roll
11:32too with three straight wins. I just think it's going to be hard to get 21 points ahead
11:37with that clock running with these. Both teams can run that football.
11:41Coach, let me get your take here on the AP Top 25 poll. Ohio State sits number one. Oregon
11:46now number two. Miami sits at number three. Ole Miss there at number four and OU at number
11:50five. Penn State sits there at number seven. What do we think about the AP Top 24? Any yes,
11:55they deserve to be here and know you have a team lower? No, I mean, I think it's going
12:00to continue to change as these teams play each other. But Ohio State, he who has the greatest
12:04defense is going to be number one and win it. Ohio State has the best talent and they have
12:09the best defense. But let me tell you something. Oregon right now, the way they're playing with
12:13offense and defense, I've got them up there because my dark horse was Penn State. But that
12:18was a good game. Went to overtime. Don't knock Penn State out. Ole Miss is kind of a neat sleeper
12:24down here in the South. You know who's number one with us? It's Coach Terry Bowden. He joins
12:29us each and every week. Thanks, Coach. Enjoy the weekend.
12:37No NFL, no Major League Baseball, college football, center stage Joe Ranieri. Where's
12:44he going tonight? Yeah, well, we hit that first five under yesterday, Donnie, keeping the winning
12:50ways rolling here. Let's do it tonight in college football. And I am going to go out
12:56West for one of the late games. And I'm going to focus on West Virginia heading to Provo to
13:02take on BYU. And I'm going to focus on the total, Donnie, because I can't understand this
13:08total at 46 and a half. It has come down. It opened up at 47. 46 and a halves are available.
13:15You're talking about a West Virginia team that's only averaged about 16 points a game.
13:20They no longer have their starting quarterback. And now Rich Rod has got to fly across the country
13:26to Provo here on a short week and start rotating quarterbacks as second and third guys who can't
13:33throw the ball. Offensively, this is a very challenged West Virginia team, not to mention you've
13:39got a BYU defense that only gives up an average of 12 points a game. At home in this spot, both
13:45offenses extremely slow paced. BYU is not an uptempo team. There is no way I see them hurry up to the
13:53line of scrimmage and try to run away with this game. I don't know where the points are coming from
13:58from West Virginia. I don't think they get a lot, but I don't think we get anywhere near 47 points in
14:04this game either, given West Virginia has done a pretty good job defensively, even though they lack
14:09offensive weapons. I think the under is the play here tonight, Donnie, at 46 and a half at BYU.
14:17There you go. Joe's going for himself a little under tonight for Mike to me. What about this?
14:22I'm going to go for a little Henny. I don't drink and I don't mean Hennessy. I'm going Delaware
14:25Blue Hens tonight, taking on Western Kentucky in a conference USA battle. Did you know Delaware
14:31Joe's favorite at two and a half here? That's where the play is going to be a total of 61 and a half.
14:35Have you seen the Italian stallion at quarterback? That's Nick Minacucci here. 141 passing attempts,
14:41a thousand yards, eight touchdowns, only two interceptions. Have you seen Joe Silver at running
14:47back? He's averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Good for 326 on the season and three touchdowns and a long
14:55of 70 here. Henny is on deck tonight. The Delaware Blue Hens, minus two and a half. Stunning Western
15:02Kentucky at home. You don't come to a place that has no corporate tax and expect to walk away with
15:08a victory. That's Delaware, baby. We're getting it done tonight. That is the biggest pros versus
15:14Joe's game on the card, Donnie. We don't mean Joe Biden. Yeah. No, no, no. Wrong Joe. But that is a
15:21that is a big public running to back up Western Kentucky. And yet that line still remains two
15:28and a half, don't it? Yes, it does. Let's go, Delaware. Come on, the Delaware Wing T,
15:32the famous helmets, Joe. Get down the business here. That's what we've done. And what a week it
15:37was right here on the early line. For Donnie Wrightside and Joe Ranieri, thank you for tuning in.
15:41We'll be back right in early Monday morning for more fun.
