00:00And these spread lines, maybe some of the best you're going to see.
00:02Why?
00:03Because we're talking about college football playoff games, Joe.
00:06Let's start here.
00:07Alabama and Oklahoma.
00:09This is a rematch.
00:10We saw Oklahoma's devastating defense go on the road to Tuscaloosa
00:13and put a victory over Alabama, one of the biggest wins of the season.
00:17FanDuel, Joe, actually opened up Alabama as a one-and-a-half point favorite.
00:21FanDuel today still sits at one-and-a-half.
00:23DraftKings actually sits at one-and-a-half as a favorite for Oklahoma.
00:27An 8 p.m. kickoff from Norman.
00:30Oklahoma's defense, Alabama's been leaking oil down the stretch, Joe.
00:34What is your spread line for this game early?
00:36Well, it's important we all remember that these four first-round playoff games
00:40are all on the home campus sites of the higher seed.
00:45So in this case, Donnie, we're in Norman, Oklahoma here on this Friday game,
00:50December 19th, 8 o'clock Eastern time.
00:53And you're right.
00:54Alabama, the slight favorite to open up.
00:58And now there's pick-ems in a lot of spots.
01:01We have seen it flip in a few other spots.
01:04And you would think a home field advantage in this equation would certainly,
01:09especially given what we just saw from Alabama against Georgia
01:12and the history of Oklahoma actually beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa,
01:17that maybe, just maybe, we'd get a little bit more towards Oklahoma.
01:21But no, it seems to be pretty much straight up a pick-em is what the market seems to think we have here.
01:29Haven't seen a whole lot going on with the total at this point.
01:34It seems very low, Donnie, 40 and a half.
01:36But given what we've seen from that OU defense and offense, it might not be low enough here.
01:42We've got to keep an eye on it.
01:43Do have to keep an eye on it at this point right now.
01:46But we get excited for this, too, because that's a great game that's going to be lining up an SEC battle right now.
01:50We know both of these teams certainly want to win in advance, big-time fan bases,
01:53and maybe it just goes to the defense right now of Oklahoma.
01:56Neither one of those offenses, Joe, certainly on their P's and Q's right now.
02:00Got another good one down there.
02:01Kyle Field, a 12 o'clock kickoff on a Saturday, which means, Joe, that's 11 o'clock a.m. local time.
02:06The Miami Hurricanes and the Texas A&M Aggies, the line opened up at 3.5, still sits at the majority of outlets, Joe, at 3.5.
02:13DraftKings is showing a 4 right now, but a total of 51.5.
02:17A&M knew they were getting in.
02:19Miami is in now.
02:20I know the energy is certainly high, but can Miami pull off an upset, or is Texas A&M and the SEC going to move on?
02:26Joe, what's your spread line here?
02:28Well, listen, we talked about Texas A&M all year long, and that schedule of theirs was a little head-scratching
02:35because they never played any of the top teams that were ranked in the SEC until, well, of course,
02:42that one game there at the end in which they lost and lost their way against Texas
02:47and played themselves out of the SEC championship game.
02:51This line was kind of split between 3.5 and 4 across the market when it opened up Sunday night.
02:58The total was anywhere between 51 and 52, kind of hanging out right in the middle there, Donnie.
03:05We're still seeing that, 51.5s, and we are starting to see, again, 4s, 3.5s, somewhere in that point there.
03:13But listen, we can all agree, right, that Miami is a favorite.
03:18Miami is an underdog.
03:20So, yeah, that is something I would very much be interested in seeing, Donnie,
03:26on whether or not the market believes that just by slipping in, apparently, there, Miami,
03:33are they good enough to do some damage?
03:36And I think this number, take the 4 now because I think this number is going to go towards Miami
03:42when we get closer to kick.
03:45Yeah, I think it is as well, too.
03:46Two teams coming in.
03:47It's fun, man.
03:47It's great talking about big-time college football meaning.
03:50Like, what would be more fun, Joe, a playoff game with Miami or Texas A&M
03:53or the Peach Bowl with Miami and Texas A&M?
03:55This is why we love the expanded playoff.
03:56Get the good teams here playing.
03:58Put them at home.
03:58That is going to be unbelievable.
04:00110,000-plus fans in those stands here going wild at that point.
04:04Love to see it here.
04:04How about Ole Miss?
04:05They're going to get a home game as well, Joe, take it on Tulane.
04:08Feels like a bye week.
04:08Line opened up at 16.5, now sits 17.5, and a high total of 56.5.
04:13Golding the new head coach.
04:14Lane Kiffin is out of town.
04:16What's the spread line for this one between Ole Miss and Tulane?
04:18Well, this is another one of those prime examples of how do we have the 12 best
04:24teams in the country, Donnie, and we have a game in which over three scores
04:30is what this line is.
04:33You're telling me Tulane's in the same – oh, no, wait.
04:35If we had only seen this game – oh, yeah, we did see this game earlier this season.
04:40Yeah, 45-10.
04:42Ole Miss destroyed Tulane.
04:44Ole Miss passed for 307 yards.
04:46Oh, yeah, ran for 241.
04:49Oh, Tulane threw it all over the place for 104 yards.
04:53Listen, this is – it's kind of tough to gauge where we are with this Ole Miss team,
04:59given the fact that Lane Kiffin and the whole, you know, soap opera exit.
05:03It'll be interesting, I think, to see where this goes.
05:06Currently, at 16.5, 17.5, we're still seeing a little bit of Ole Miss money,
05:12but it's clear that the market thinks one team belongs and the other team doesn't in this game.
05:19College football news, and though it's hot and heavy lately, why?
05:22We had so much excitement on Sunday at 12 noon here, letting it play out.
05:25They delayed it for like 40 minutes before they told you, hey, Miami's in the college football playoff,
05:29so is Alabama, but Notre Dame is going to get the shaft because they have that two group of five teams in.
05:34We'll never get this right.
05:36We'll always be arguing.
05:37Even if they expand, it's 24 teams like, you can't leave out USC at 26.
05:41It's always going to be that way, but it just feels like this year you actually had legitimate teams
05:45getting left out that we think could have made a push here.
05:48Now, Joe, when we talk about these legitimate teams making a push,
05:51it's because they have great football players.
05:53One of these players is going to be playing in a championship game, we think,
05:58Fernando Mendoza and or Julian Sayan.
06:00Two guys have been invited to New York City and the Downtown Athletic Club.
06:05Two guys who won't be playing, Jeremiah Love and Diego Pavia.
06:09If we look at those four players, Joe, deserving to be there, three quarterbacks and one tailback.
06:16And no shock to anybody, right?
06:18Because those four guys, for the most part, have been in that conversation all year long.
06:24So that should be interesting.
06:26Usually a quarterback award, Donnie, but you never know.
06:29We'll see if maybe Love can get it done.
06:33Maybe that's their way of smoothing things over.
06:36What do you think?
06:37They give their running back to Heisman just as like an olive branch to say,
06:43oops, we're sorry for leaving you out in the playoff?
06:46Exactly.
06:46He'll say, you know what?
06:47Come back to us and play football still in the ACC and away you go.
06:51But the one thing I do get a kick out of, like, you know, Love had such a good season,
06:55but really out of the spotlight for mostly because Notre Dame didn't play anybody for about 10 straight weeks.
06:59And then he hits that pose, like, for the Heisman.
07:01Again, he was really good, Stanford.
07:03And the, I think it was maybe an Instagram post he had.
07:06It's like, it's been real, Notre Dame.
07:07It's like, oh, what do we know?
07:08They didn't make the college football playoff, but this was last week that it happened.
07:11He's got a 1% chance on Calci to win the Heisman.
07:14He's not going to do that, which brings me to the next player.
07:16It's Fernando Mendoza.
07:17It was a 93% chance on Calci, which means if you splash down, Joe, $100 wager, you'd get $7 back.
07:25So a 7% return on your money, which isn't great, but I was under the adage.
07:29And again, votes are being tabulated now.
07:31We don't know officially who's in.
07:33And if you're just looking at Mendoza right now at a minus 2,500 on that graphic, oh, he's a shoe and bet all your money.
07:38Again, Notre Dame was a minus 3,000 to get into the college football playoff three minutes before that show started,
07:44only to kick Notre Dame out of the playoff.
07:47So the odds makers do not actually vote on who gets the Heisman trophy.
07:51It's the team, excuse me, it's the Heisman trophy winners of the past and some select guys from the AP.
07:56But understand this.
07:57I thought, Joe, if Mendoza, no matter what his statistics were, just beat Ohio State, he would get the Heisman.
08:04And it looks like, Joe, it's playing out that way, at least in the odds market.
08:08It is.
08:09And listen, I don't think you can go wrong with either of those guys up at the top of the bar.
08:14I think there's a case.
08:15I can make a case for all of them, right, Donnie?
08:17Obviously, if head-to-head matters, then, you know, Fernando Mendoza should have it over Julian Sane.
08:24But I can make a case for all of them.
08:27I don't think there's any sort of, I don't know that he's that big a favorite, but, you know, I don't think any which way they go, you're going to get a ton of pushback.
08:36No, you're not.
08:37You're not.
08:37And again, those guys all deserve to be there in New York City.
08:40I do think it would come down to me, Mendoza and or Pavi here, which are the two best guys in the price range.
08:45But I do think Mendoza gets it, and he deserves it.
08:47They're unbeaten.
08:48He was sensational.
08:49It's Indiana.
08:50I'm going to give him a bump because he played there.
08:51And they just beat Ohio State, the immovable object, in the Big Ten Championship game.
08:56Sometimes I wish they would hold off on the Heisman Trophy until after the college football playoff to see what's what.
09:00But we know the way they get down here.
09:02Probably going to be Mendoza at this point.
09:04Now, we've been talking a lot about the ACC and Notre Dame and why they're so upset about this.
09:09Let's take a look at Mario Cristobal on if Miami wasn't in the college football playoff.
09:14The thought that Notre Dame decided not to play in a bowl, was that something that the University of Miami had thought about as a scenario if the rules were reversed and you didn't get in?
09:22I would say first and foremost, I wouldn't comment on anybody else's situation because you never know.
09:27You never know exactly what's up.
09:28And I have too much respect for football and for Notre Dame to comment on their situation.
09:32As it relates to us, you know, we haven't been faced with that situation and we don't ever expect, want to, or would really allow that situation to happen.
09:45But that's, again, that's not a comment in any way, shape, or form as it relates to them.
09:51You just don't know what each program is going through.
09:54Some programs lose a coach.
09:56Sometimes you're going to be down a ton of players and people have to make a decision.
10:00But, yeah, I don't want to comment on anybody else's stuff because, again, it's just not my place and it would be disrespectful, you know.
10:08By the way, is he trolling them with that colored shirt right there?
10:11Looks like it could pass for a Notre Dame colored shirt, Joe.
10:14How about that?
10:15No, you never confuse the U with them.
10:18Look at that.
10:19Isn't that nice, though?
10:20I'm going to have to go out and get that.
10:21With the Adidas logo?
10:22That is nice.
10:23Yeah, that is sweet there, Mario.
10:26I can't wait.
10:28Now, what you can't do, Mario, you can't go out and get blown out by Texas A&M.
10:33Otherwise, forget it.
10:35We'll never hear the end of it about how our Notre Dame should have been in.
10:39So, yeah, go handle your business there, Mario.
10:42Go handle it.
10:43Exactly.
10:44It was like when FSU said, well, we're not playing in the playoff.
10:47It was up to Georgia to knock their block off.
10:49And then we all said, yeah, exactly.
10:51That's why FSU got left out.
10:52They got beat by 60 points a couple weeks later.
10:55Miami, show up.
10:56They'll be there.
10:56It'll be fun.
10:57It'll be interesting to watch it play out here.
10:59How about Matt Campbell?
11:00His PSU presser.
11:01Welcome to State College.
11:07I'm going to take a second.
11:09It's been a whirlwind.
11:13I'm going to say this.
11:14I'm humbled, honored, grateful to be standing before all of you, this world-class university, this world-class athletic department in truly one of the greatest programs in the world.
11:28And it's an absolute honor to be the next head football coach here at Penn State University.
11:33The last five days have been a whirlwind.
11:37That's fine.
11:37They haven't.
11:39And as fate has it, it's this full-circled moment in my life, our family's life, this young boy that grew up in Masson, Ohio.
11:51No shot.
11:51No shot.
11:52No shot.
11:52No shot here, Joe.
11:53This has given me Joe Judge vibe.
11:55I'm already decommitting.
11:56I'm decommitting.
11:56I'm decommitting.
11:57When I watched Joe Judge for the Giants through his opening presser, I knew he was a horrible coach.
12:02I'm already out at this point right now.
12:03I wanted to get behind this guy.
12:05I thought it was a prank when he got there.
12:06You know, this kid – guys, look, I'm kidding.
12:09Like, the expectation here for me would be a champion.
12:11I got business, Joe.
12:12I kid.
12:13He's crying?
12:14At Penn State?
12:16All right.
12:17Forgetting the job that – I don't know.
12:19He was, like, the ninth choice.
12:21Like, dude, you were the only one left.
12:23Like, that was – everybody else said no and, you know, parlayed it into more money.
12:28You were the only one left.
12:30So, kudos.
12:31Keep those tears up there.
12:33I am losing my mind this morning.
12:35First, the Eagles lose, and then the coach is crying because it's at Penn State.
12:38Maybe he's crying because he knows he has no chance to win here.
12:41How about that?
12:43Fun in the couch markets here.
12:44Now, look, I came on this show this morning, Joe.
12:48You don't see me crying.
12:49Like, you don't see me crying and say, oh, the Eagles lost last night.
12:52I didn't get a team total and give me a moment.
12:55Like, no.
12:56I came in with the energy this morning, the angry energy to get the people understanding
13:00how upset I am at that loss.
13:02Not crying, Joe.
13:03There's no crying in football.
13:05There's no crying in football.
13:06Mm-hmm.
13:06No, there's not.
13:09And it's just like, come on.
13:12And the best part about it, though, Donnie, is I'm watching and I'm going, wait a minute.
13:16Like, you were the last guy to get high.
13:18Like, they literally had a list that included 30 other dudes other than you, and you're at
13:23the podium crying that you got the job.
13:25Like, they picked you out of, like, 30 other guys.
13:27No, they didn't.
13:28You were the only one left.
13:30Save the tears.
13:30My goodness.
13:32Imagine that.
13:33You get a pay upgrade.
13:34You coach at Penn State, and you're up there crying.
13:36It's like, stop the madness, man.
13:37Just get out there and coach these guys up and try to go out and win.
13:39Because, by the way, what he should have been crying was for the AD to say, thank you for
13:44giving me that schedule next year.
13:46I never thought I needed such an easy schedule.
13:48And the AD going like, hey, kid, at Penn State, we have an easy schedule every year.
13:51You'll be just fine.
13:52So get out there and try to win some of these games.
13:53How about this?
13:54If you win, you'll be there, and you'll be a king.
13:57If you lose, you get fired just like everybody else.
13:59How about this calcium market today?
14:00Joe, which college football coaches will be out before September?
14:04Do you know who the leader in the clubhouse is right now?
14:07It's Bill Belichick at North Carolina, followed by Derek Mason at Middle Tennessee.
14:11Davo Swinney at Clemson.
14:14You have Jeff Chote, whatever the heck that is from Nevada.
14:17That could be a fake name for all I know.
14:19Greg Sciano at Rutgers.
14:21Rich Rodriguez.
14:22And then there's the fun one here down here.
14:24Mike Norvell at Florida State.
14:25He should be out, but Florida State would go bankrupt if they had to fire him.
14:29So he's got to stay at this point.
14:30Any thoughts, Joe, on any one of these college football coaches leaving before September?
14:35It can't be Belichick.
14:36Unless what?
14:37Why is he going anywhere at this point?
14:41No.
14:42The only way is if he makes the jump back to the NFL.
14:46If not, he is there just long enough in order to pass the baton to his kids.
14:53So I think that's basically what that whole job is about.
14:57But listen, I can make the argument, why is Norvell even still there?
15:00I have no idea why he is still at Florida State here.
15:04Because Florida State now celebrates mediocrity with football, apparently.
15:09But I would not shock.
15:10I don't think it gets any better for him.
15:13So it would not shock me.
15:15He might be a good investment there.
15:16Because the seat is very hot there in Florida State.
15:20He might be a good investment here in Florida State.
Be the first to comment
