Gwalior: A man allegedly murdered his wife over suspicion of her character in Khatik Mohalla under the Indarganj police station area of Gwalior. The accused, Dharmendra Maurya (48), attacked his wife, Renu Maurya (42), with a mogri (iron mace) late on Wednesday night (10 Dec 2025), killing her on the spot.

According to police, Dharmendra had long suspected his wife’s character after seeing her riding a bike with a young man. He repeatedly questioned her about the man’s identity, but Renu refused to disclose details, leading to frequent disputes between the couple.

On Wednesday night, the argument escalated. In a fit of rage and allegedly under the influence of alcohol, Dharmendra assaulted Renu with the weapon, inflicting fatal head injuries. At the time of the incident, their son and other family members, including the grandmother Kalavati and younger daughter Mansi, were present in the house. The child reportedly attempted to help his injured mother before she succumbed to her injuries.

After the murder, the accused fled the scene with the weapon. During interrogation, police said Dharmendra confessed to hiding the mogri near bushes after visiting the Achaleshwar temple. Based on his statement, the weapon was recovered.

Police registered a murder case, sent the body for post-mortem, seized evidence from the spot, and called in the FSL team for investigation. Due to swift action, the accused was arrested within 24 hours and has been sent to jail.

Family members told police that the couple had been married for 25 years. Renu, who had three children from a previous marriage, worked at a private school due to financial difficulties, which often led to quarrels, as her husband reportedly opposed her job.

The incident has shocked the locality and created panic and outrage among residents. Police said further investigation is underway.
