A chilling murder case has come to light from Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district, where a husband and wife were arrested for allegedly murdering a man over an extramarital affair, dismembering his body and attempting to destroy evidence by burning the remains in a forest.

Police said the accused, Kamta Prasad Nishad and his wife Kiran Devi, were arrested after an investigation into the disappearance of Vijay Nishad, a labourer from Tikra village.

According to investigators, Vijay frequently travelled to Hamirpur for work and had allegedly been involved in a relationship with Kiran Devi for about a year. Kiran's husband, Kamta Prasad, who worked in Gujarat, reportedly learned about the affair through relatives and returned to his village after opposing the relationship.

Police said the couple then allegedly conspired to eliminate Vijay.

According to the investigation, on May 8, Kiran allegedly called Vijay and invited him to her house, reportedly telling him that her husband was away. When Vijay arrived on his motorcycle, Kiran allegedly let him inside and locked the door.

Police claim that Kamta Prasad, who was already present inside the house, attacked Vijay with a wooden door frame and repeatedly struck him on the head, killing him on the spot.

Investigators allege that after the murder, the couple attempted to conceal the crime by dismembering the body using cutting tools and later transporting the remains to a forest area in Kanpur, where they set them on fire. However, the body was not completely burnt.

The case came to light after Vijay's father, Indrapal Nishad, filed a missing person report on May 11. During the investigation, police traced Vijay's mobile phone records and found frequent communication between him and Kiran Devi.

Officials said Kiran became nervous when contacted by investigators, raising suspicion. Police subsequently detained and questioned the couple, who allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

According to police, the accused also searched online for information related to murder cases, including punishments under Section 302 and ways to avoid legal consequences after committing the crime.

Based on information provided by the accused, police recovered Vijay's motorcycle, ATM card, PAN card, the wooden object allegedly used in the murder and a half-burnt body from a forest area in Kanpur. The remains have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik said the investigation revealed that the murder was linked to the alleged affair and longstanding tensions between the victim and the accused couple.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
