In a dramatic turn of events in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, a woman who was allegedly murdered has been found alive in Haryana, leading to the release of her husband who had spent nearly a month in jail in connection with the case.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said on Tuesday that the woman, identified as Ankita, was traced to a rented accommodation in Manesar, Gurugram, where she was living with her cousin, Ramu alias Sankalp Mishra. Police have brought her back to Kaushambi for further legal proceedings.

Case Background
Ankita, married to Raju Tiwari for around 10 years, had gone missing from her in-laws’ home in Alwara village under the Mahewaghat police station area on January 21, 2026. A missing person complaint was filed the following day with the consent of her family.

However, on February 20, her parents accused her husband and in-laws of murdering her and disposing of the body. Following the allegations, Raju Tiwari surrendered in court on February 27 and had been in judicial custody since then.

Investigation and Recovery
During the investigation, police tracked the location of Sankalp Mishra, with whom the woman had reportedly been in contact earlier. Surveillance led the police team to Manesar, where they kept watch for four days before locating the woman.

According to police, Ankita initially remained silent but later stated that she was living with the man of her own free will.

Legal Action
Following her recovery, the court ordered the release of her husband, who had been jailed based on the earlier allegations. Police have now registered a case against four individuals, including the woman’s father, for allegedly filing a false complaint and misleading investigators. Two accused have been arrested.

Officials said the woman’s statement is being recorded before the court, and medical examination formalities are underway.

The incident has raised serious concerns over misuse of legal provisions and the consequences of false allegations, which led to the incarceration of an innocent person.
