Two deer that accidentally fell into a 40-foot-deep well in a field on the outskirts of Nandan village in Gujarat's Una taluka were rescued after a joint operation by the forest department and local villagers. Both animals were later shifted to an animal care centre for treatment and observation.

The incident occurred around noon at the farm of Ramjibhai Lakhmanbhai Mewada. The agricultural area is located close to a forest, where wild animals frequently venture towards human settlements in search of water or while roaming. During one such movement, the two deer reportedly fell into a water-filled well.

After spotting the animals trapped inside the well, local farmers immediately alerted the forest department. Upon receiving the information, Una Forest Department Forester Jitendrabhai Bambhaniya and his team rushed to the spot.

A rescue operation was launched with the help of local forest ranger Bharatbhai and several village youths. Using ropes, the volunteers descended into the 40-foot-deep well and carefully rescued both deer in an operation that lasted several hours.

Forest officials said the animals were visibly frightened and trembling after being pulled out. The department immediately provided first aid before shifting them to the nearest animal care centre for further treatment and care.

Speaking about the rescue, Vanamitra Bharatbhai said, "We cannot ignore the suffering of a voiceless animal. It was our moral duty to help. Since the forest and village boundaries are close, such incidents occur, but villagers and the forest department are always ready to protect wildlife."

Forester Jitendrabhai Bambhaniya praised the prompt response and courage shown by the villagers. He said such incidents are common in agricultural areas located along forest borders and stressed the need for fencing or covering open wells to prevent wildlife from falling into them in the future.

The successful rescue has once again highlighted the concern and compassion shown by the people of the Una region towards wildlife conservation.
