00:00A US investigation has found that Malaysia failed to ban imports of goods wholly or partly
00:06made with forced labour, with the Office of the US Trade Representative saying the failure
00:10to impose and enforce the prohibition was unreasonable and restricted American commerce.
00:16Malaysia was among 60 countries probed by the US Trade Representative over their failure
00:21to impose and enforce a ban on the import of goods made with forced labour.
00:25According to the report, Malaysia's failure to impose and enforce such a prohibition
00:30was unreasonable and burdened or restricted American commerce.
00:35Some of the other countries investigated include Australia, Canada, China, Japan, New Zealand,
00:42Singapore and South Korea, who undermined efforts to eradicate forced labour.
00:46The report proposes that Washington imposed an additional 10% duty on products from Malaysia
00:52due to its failure to ban forced labour imports.
00:56In March, Investment Trade and Industry Minister Johari Ghani warned that the US could impose
01:02tariffs of up to 10% on Malaysia under its Trade Act based on the investigation, though he
01:07said the measures would likely last about five months before further review.
