A shocking murder case involving a 25-year-old staff nurse in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has taken a dramatic turn after the victim’s family alleged that she was being pressured to convert and marry the main accused.

The victim, identified as Anjali Sharma, worked as a staff nurse at Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College and was living in Jagriti Vihar Sector 3.

According to police, Anjali was allegedly murdered on May 21 by ward boy Sufian and his sister Sajida. After the murder, Sajida allegedly loaded the body onto an e-rickshaw, transported it to the medical college, dumped it outside the emergency gate, and fled the spot.

Police scanned CCTV footage from the hospital premises and identified Sajida sitting in the e-rickshaw wearing a helmet. She was arrested the same day along with her mother. During interrogation, Sajida allegedly confessed to involvement in the murder. However, the main accused, Sufian, is still absconding.

Anjali had married Sunny, a resident of Sector 8, in 2018 and had a five-year-old son. Family members said she had been living separately from her husband for the past year due to marital disputes, and a divorce case was pending in court.

According to relatives, Anjali met Sufian while working at the medical college, and the two later became friends. Her family alleged that Sufian had been pressuring her to convert to Islam and marry him, but she repeatedly refused.

Anjali’s sister Neha claimed she saw messages on the victim’s phone allegedly sent by Sufian asking her to leave her husband and child, convert, and marry him.

The accused Sajida allegedly told police that Anjali had visited Lohia Nagar on May 21, where an argument broke out over marriage. She claimed the fight escalated, after which Anjali was allegedly strangled to death before the body was dumped outside the medical college.

Anjali’s brother Pradeep alleged that the accused had been harassing his sister for a long time and accused them of kidnapping and murdering her as part of a planned conspiracy.

Family members also claimed there were injury marks on Anjali’s neck, hands and legs, suggesting assault before death.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Meerut SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosale stated that, so far, the investigation has not confirmed allegations related to forced religious conversion. However, police have recovered WhatsApp chats and are examining them as part of the probe.

Further investigation is underway.
